I REALLY wanted to like this place. The manager was very nice, they had the specific tires I wanted in stock (very specific), and they had my car ready very quickly, and bagged my old tires up and put them in my back seat for me to take with me (my summer tires). I knew going in that the prices would be a bit more expensive than if I ordered on tire rack and had them shipped to my local guy, but I figured I'd pay for the convenience and saving the step. But unfortunately, that's where my good experience ended. Five hours after picking up my car with the new tires on, I get a warning from my TPMS. I figure maybe there is a bad valve (happens sometimes). I pull over, get out of my car, all tires look inflated. I get out my handy tire pressure gauge (digital) and... 52 PSI. ALL FOUR TIRES had between 48 and 52 PSI. The warning on the side of the tire says "MAX 50 PSI." The manufacturer suggestion on the door jam says "32 PSI" and "33 PSI" for the backs and the fronts respectively. These tires were on the brink of blowing out due to over inflation. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that I had driven on them for ~20 minutes and they heated up a bit, still - doesn't explain being 20 pounds over. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place - closeby, nice, courteous. But they made a very dangerous mistake that could easily have been avoided. read more

I called them at 830am to tell them I had a blow out while on my way to work and when I called them they said it was okay that my boyfriend brought my tire there by 4 that they would be able to take care of it . But when my boyfriend got there at 345 they turned him away!!!!! They said there wasn't going to be enough time even though they didn't close till 5pm !!!! Why are there so many negative reviews? I stopped into Mavis discount tire after I got a flat and was helped by Albert at the desk. He was so friendly and informative and gave me a great price on a tire and alignment. As I'm sitting waiting for my car I can hear Albert helping others just as he helped me. He's knowledgeable, he got jokes and able to help customers in english and not in an auto mechanic jargon. I hope this company can recognize him as one of their compassionate and valuable employees. Besides Albert, the mechanics were able to fix my tire in a shorter time than expected. You guys were great. I wish I could give Albert a hundred stars but there's only 5. 5 ain't enough. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my father who has had multiple unprofessional and disrespectful experiences at this Mavis location. Firstly, on two separate occasions, the staff here at Mavis has put wrong sized tires on our car (which our mechanic confirmed afterward) and when my father told the store manager each time, he rudely belittled & dismissed my father immediately upon confrontation. In the most recent incident, my father realized he was loosing air in his front driver's side tire, so being that we live in the neighborhood, he drove strait to Mavis. The mechanic with whom he spoke to (after registering at the front desk with an extremely rude and condescending assistant manager) accused him of damaging the tire HIMSELF. This treatment is unacceptable and we are escalating this issue to Mavis corporate as we genuinely fear for unsuspecting customers, their passengers and their fellow drivers on the roads. UPDATED REVIEW: I reported this to Mavis customer service and they promised to have their community manager contact us. We have still not heard back WEEKS later. Disgusting and unacceptable. Horrendous shop. Absolutely terrible. Please do not bring your car into this shop. The owner is real head case, he's usually the one answering the phones and taking orders. He tells you he'll call in 20 minutes, no call. You call 3 times then the time period is extended by an entire hour! I said"this garage is god damn clown show", he got extremely upset with that "curse word" lol 2019 and god damn is a curse. Disappointed! I waited 3 hours for a new tire despite having an appointment. I told them that I would take the old tire because I had purchased it the day before but it wasn't a run flat tire. They still wanted to charge me a tire disposal fee. The worst part is that I asked them to check a tire that had a slow leak. They told me that tire was ok. I've been to this shop a few times for basic car maintenance work when i don't have the time to do oil changes myself. Highly undertrained and chatty unprofessional staff, smoking cigarettes in the garage. Very slow in getting your car on the lift, but once its on the lift is when the true slum-baggery begins. Like car salesmen, they will do the waiting game on you (making you invest a lot of time) and eventually call you on your cellphone to tell you that they have found some "issues" with your car completely unrelated the work you needed in the first place - in my case a basic conventional oil change. Can you imagine how weird it is to see your car on the lift with all 4 tires off, when you're just there for an oil change? They flat out lied to me and said i had seized brake calipers, when i just replaced all 4 calipers and brake pads 6 months prior and had no braking issues whatsoever. They wanted to give me a "special deal" and was charging me upwards of $900! Do be careful if you do choose to go to these guys, they give honest, hardworking good mechanics a bad name. read more

I dropped my car off.. they called a few hours later and told me i needed a wheel alignment and balancing, I was told It would be $130 for both.. ok no problem.. I get there and I was charged $130 for an alignment and $40 for balancing .. I told them I was told it was $130 for both.. I was already late for work and had to rush out of there .. I had no time to argue with these unprofessional schemers.. They also told me I needed new struts.. and I should return and pay $287 per strut.. yeah ok... I went to my dealer and they assured me my struts were fine. Never again! read more

I used to like these guys. But...I bought a set of tires from them on Monday March 7, 2016 and drove them for 20 miles when the right rear tire blew out in 4-5 places on the outer wall. When I asked Mavis to replace the tire or reimburse me for the price of only that tire, they were rude, said it was my fault (it definitely was not) and then hung up on me. These guys did what they said they were going to do. Nice little area to sit down. Do yourself a favor. Research the tires before you going. Tell them what you want, not ask them what you need. You will then get the tires that are the right price, not the tires that are the most expensive for your car. Remember, there are speed ratings for tires as well as sizes. Figure out how fast you really are going to go. It costs more for higher speed rated tires. If you will be driving in 160 miles an hour, buy the 160 mile an hour tires. When I get there I have to go through a series of questions, address license plate number tire size make and model how much mileage on the car and then they tell me to two hour wait. unbelievable just to repair a tire left very disappointed didn't even get my tire fixed. went down the block to the nearest gas station and they fixed it on the spot. complete waste of time read more

I asked if I can go to another store then he said every store is closing. I ended up going to another one. They took me and changed it. I've been buying and servicing my cars through Mavis for many years. Without any problems. My recent experience was an absolute disaster In July I purchased 4tires I was told that I needed an alignment And then 2 shock absorbers, new tire sensors, and balancing I never questioned the work because I trusted your service manager's opinion Once I started driving the car I noticed that the wheels were wobbly but I was told that I should be driving it to let the wheels "set in" By October, the problem had gotten worse. So I brought my car in to get it checked out. I was told that it needed another alignment. The wheel also had an air leak which I was told was going to be fixed. I was told that it was a defective valve. Last month I had to bring the car back due to the same problem. They told me that I needed an alignment. So the car was aligned once again. But this time the mechanic told me that he thinks that the problem isn't an alignment but the wheels weren't balanced correctly and that if it still shakes, to bring it in again. Today I brought my car back once again. The service manager told me that I would have to pay for the balance and air leak. I argued with the guy for 20 minutes explaining to them that I didn't create the problem in the first place. the problem was created. your service guy. Who kept telling me that it was an alignment issue The service manager wouldn't hear of it and insisted that I pay for the balancing because it was out of warranty I told him that the previous time I brought the car in, that I was told to drive it around a bit and that if it was the balance they would fix it at no charge. Now the manager said to me that since there is new management, they are not going to take responsibility for the problem that the previous management created I all fairness, I been to this place 4 times to fix a problem that I didn't create. I've sat and waited for many hours to get my car fixed Where is the fairness in treating a customer in this manner? Why can't people do the right thing and take responsibility for their actions? I've been taking my cars to your establishment for many years. This is no way to treat a loyal customer. I told them that I'll pay for this repair that they created but know this, I will never bring any of my cars, or my family's cars back to Mavis The guys that run your great neck service department should be ashamed of themselves for treating an old time customer in this manner. Good place to come for tires and the whole package deal since they come with warranty if you add $10. They also save your info on the computer for records so they keep track of exactly what you need. They also have a nice area for you to sit and wait for your tires to be done. In addition, they carry a nice selection. Even if they don't have the exact model of tires you're looking for, they usually carry a comparable one. Check them out if you're looking for someone solid to go to for your tires. However, keep in mind they are not 24 hours. Closes at 6 so get there by 5:30 latest. PS: my only complaint is that I replaced two wheels here. Got it realigned and balanced. And one of my old tired needed a pump of air and they didn't even check it. It's a simple task for them. Took off a star for that. Shake my head!!! read more

You really hate to keep complaining about a place you go especially when you spend so much time there you refer to it as your home away from home. But my latest Mavis Great Neck adventure is like last time with the tire pressure light and censor. They seem to diagnose defective censors regularly and in this case after an hour and a half they had my Scion on the lift, diagnosed a defective censor, replaced it, and then the next two days the tire pressure light continued to shine. They also tried to sell me on a caliper and do not seem to accept that I do regular auto maintenance elsewhere. They take lots of your time and money and often-times your problem is not properly dealt with requiring almost limitless return visits. read more

Had a NYS Inspection done at 200 Northern Blvd, Rudy the NYS Licensed Inspector removed the wheels and then spent an hour doing something else. When he finally got to my car he tried to sell me new brake pads and rotors that I changed 500 Miles ago with brand new pads and rotors. The shop manager confirmed there was nothing wrong with the brakes. He then decided that the rear wiper was a reason to fail the inspection; which has nothing to do with the inspection. Not even sure if he rotated the Tires as requested. After 3 Hours at this shop, I left and went to my neighborhood BP Station and they completely inspected the Car and it passed with nothing noted. Rudy is a FRAUD and this shop should be carefully questioned about any recommended repairs, and request all parts changed be held for you to look at as brake pads are either worn out or they are good, there is no in between, same for shocks and struts. Battery Check ask for a printout from the computer that was used, no report, go to Autozone or another parts supplier that offers a free battery check and printout of the battery condition. Used to really like Mavis, after this experience the only thing I will go there for is Tires which they do well with, repairs BEWARE of the Rudies of the Mavis World! read more

Discovering a flat tire on a Saturday evening is the worst because so few shops are open on Sundays. I am so glad that this place was open, though! I recently went to Star Toyota Service to replace a tire that was blown and it cost me about $300 with installation. At Mavis, it cost me about $227. EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE OF TIRE! Never going back to Star Toyota Service for tires again. Tip: try to arrive fifteen minutes before they open, especially on Sundays because the line can get quite long (I didn't have an appointment). I was out in about an hour! There's no coffee here, but there is a water cooler. At least the waiting room doesn't have any water damage (*ahem* Star Toyota Service). There is WiFi and even charging stations if you want to plug in your laptop/phone. Or you could put your head down and try to sleep...but the television is obnoxiously loud lol. In sum, I'm sold. I'll probably come here for my other issues, too. It appears that Mavis has an apparatus that is set up to handle all sorts of mechanical problems. I also like that I am able to see what the mechanics are doing with my car through the glass. read more

I came here in 2010 when I needed to replace my tires. Tire prices range $-$$$$ depending on the brand of tire you choose. Buy three tires and get one free, plus they also include free lifetime tire rotation. Service is excellent, and I feel they're not like the other shops and hit you up with hidden fees. I came in to get a tire checked out that was losing tire pressure after I hit a pothole after all these snow storms and cold weather messed up the roads. I explained what had happened to the front desk person, and he gave his guess as to the problem. We went outside to check our my car and he verified that my tire needed replacement as the tire had developed a bubble and noticeable tear damage. He have me two options for tires, one $30 more expensive than the other. He told me that I could use the cheaper one for normal driving and not notice a difference, instead of trying to sell me on the more expensive one, which I appreciated. Replacing the tie and a wheel alignment took about an hour and a half, but I arrived early in the morning. During the repair, the mechanic brought me inside and discussed some other issues with my vehicle. I appreciated the fact that he didn't try to sell me on any more repairs, but instead, specifically told me that it wouldn't need attention right away, but be mindful of it. The store is well kept. There's a small lounge with chairs and an eye level television, which is much nicer than having to stare up all the time. There's also a few "cubicles" with outlets and tables if you want to bring your laptop and work, which is doable because they provide free WiFi inside. Will follow up if repairs proves to be faulty, but overall very satisfied with my visit. read more

Had to replace a tire in a relative emergency. Called at 4pm, tire was ready the following morning at 9:00am. Having previously replaced a tire through a dealership (BMW), the cost through Mavis was around $40-50 cheaper. The turnaround time (I waited) for the new tire to be installed and balanced was appropriate/quick. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Would recommend for tire changes. read more
