Most places make decent wontons, but as someone from Hong Kong, I'm always searching for the perfect noodles--chewy, springy, and rich with an eggy texture. I don't live in New York City, but I've visited a few wonton noodle spots in Chinatown, and this one is truly legit. We stopped by in the late afternoon for a bowl of wonton noodles. The wontons were flavorful, with a delicate balance of shrimp and pork, and surprisingly large in size. The broth was clear, savory, and infused with a delightful shrimp essence. Seating is minimal, with a few small tables inside and a few more on the patio. Comfort isn't the focus--most people, like us, come for a quick eat and leave once they're done. Passed by this restaurant a couple of times in the past but didn't give it much thought other than that logo graphics was cute. Now I had to try it because it is one of the only two handful of NYC restaurants listed in Yelp's 100 Chinese restaurants. First impression was, boy the place was really cramped. I would say there was barely enough room for 4-5 people to stand/wait in front of the check in area. The enclosed curbside annex which is often used as waiting area was used to seat 8-10 people -- in the cold! Absolutely not desirable. I knew the place is known for wonton noodle soup so we had to order one to share. And as we planned to continue our food crawl later at the New World Food Court, we thought a Ja Jiang Noodle (a la Jjajiangmyun) as second dish would be ideal because we wouldn't be filling ourselves with another bowl of soup. We were shocked when the dish came served in the form of noodle soup! I had never had Ja Jiang noodle as a soupy dish in my Asian life!! In my mind, the Ja Jiang bean paste would dissipate in soup so it makes no sense. The reality was that it wasn't a traditional Jia Jiang but pork strips with mushrooms. The saving grace for that disaster was the broth was tomato based, Red Borscht-like soup which I do like. Now the famous wonton noodle soup, while not bad, wasn't nearly as good as my go-to place in Edison NJ - the Wonton Guy, where the wontons are bigger, tastier, and the broth has more umami. Right in the heart of Chinatown we finally have a Maxi's. It's a very small, cramped establishment but the servers ensure you are well taken care of. But warning you will be very close to other customers (like elbow touching close). Tbh it's nyc and I say make a new friend over the delish noodles Their wonton soup is highly recommended so definitely order that. You can add another topping to it and I chose the beef stew which went super well with the flavor of the noodle broth. The duck egg noodles in my Opinion are the best as they soak up the flavor whole heartedly. My partner added the pork ja jiang but unfortunately that doesn't do well as a noodle soup topping - it must be very flavorful on its own though If you are a milk tea person you should try that too! Definitely your hole in the wall with the typical fold out tables and tiny chairs for you to squat on if you decide to eat there on the spot. We've gone past this place several times and saw people sitting in front on the sidewalk eating their noodles but never really got the chance to try it until recently. Utensils and bowls were all disposable and it's certainly a no frills type of place. You are really there for the food. They were very accommodating for our large group and we chose to be ok with being squished in as a party of 8 in such a tiny space just so we can enjoy the food there on the spot. Service was super quick. They had a "special" off the menu fried wontons which were super crunchy but a bit too oily for my taste. Other than that, everything else was +A. Their signature wontons are huge chunks in a warm broth accompanied by typical egg noodles to warm your tummies especially on a cold winter day. Hong Kong style noodle house, reminds me of Manhattan Mott Street Wonton Garden. The soup broth is exactly that, so yummy reminder of collage days. Maxi's even has the Ja Jiang sweet and sour sauce with slices of meat and mushrooms and vegetables. All very nostalgic for me. This small restaurant has charming small tables with charming noodle soup mural, enter sit where you may, order at counter, pages given, wait at table till pager goes off when order is ready - love the fast service. Was originally going to the second location further down Main Street (easy by subway to Queens Center Mall + bus drops off 1 block away), but decided to the 7 instead. The restaurant is a 5-7min walk from the subway station. I got there 3pm & it was still very busy (outside of regular lunch hours). There was a steady stream of to-go orders, and a few people ahead of me waiting in line. The restaurant is very small - the inside section has only 4 tables, the front attached shed has about the same. The staff was very nice & bilingual. Enjoyed hearing the ladies communicate with each other in Cantonese, but switch back-and-forth to English with customers - without missing a beat! I got the 2 Topping Noodle Soup: egg (duck) vermicelli noodles, dumpling (shrimp, pork, woodear mushrooms, yellow chive - I hear that this better than the wonton), Stewed beef (literally melts in your mouth, with some offal cuts too), added on $1.50 Fish (dace) meatball. A tray of $8 fried fish salmon? skin (as per @jamesyworld post recommendation - dip it in the broth for some textural contrast!, & took the rest home. I been seeing Maxis all over IG and bookmarked it on my list of places to try. It's your typical Flushing dine in spot. Seats are not very comfy. Almost fell backwards off of the seat as they don't have backs and I was too busy getting comfy and talkin haha. You get in grab a table, place ur order, eat ur food and GTFO as it does get super busy and crowded. Service moved pretty fast. I didn't really taste the curry with the fishballs. It was alright nonetheless. My favorite dish was the egg noodles w shrimp wonton. The shrimp wonton were massive, filled w generous amount of shrimp. Yummy. Maxi noodles is popular on Instagram. Got the soup egg noodles with beef wonton and veggie in it. The broth is good and the wontons are pretty big. I wish I took a picture but I felt rushed to hurry up and eat since people are waiting for a table. I did not like the workers, they are rude as shit, and needs to work on their attitude. I thought I had to order inside since no one came to me at the table. The lady kept telling me wait outside, don't come inside, and sit down. There ain't a better noodle place than maxis in flushing and I have almost tried them all. Those duck noodles and that brisket is to die for. Look up maxi's story and how she started it's tremendous. You might even get lucky and see her there. Great spot for people watching and there is like 5 tables so you might have to share. They're generous with the dumplings, wontons, and fish paste sizes too! Save some money if you pay with cash. It does get busy so if you plan to dine in, prepare to wait or come early. Came here as a group of three at around 3pm on a Saturday. We were able to get a table in the outside patio area without any wait. We got the wonton noodle soup and the fried fish skin. I loved the wonton noodle soup! The wontons were huge and they were really delicious. The wonton filling was bouncy and well seasoned, and I liked that there were large pieces of shrimp inside instead of having everything just ground up and smooth. The wonton skin was thin, which I really liked, and the soup was very flavorful. The chili oil they had on the side was also really flavorful and delicious, so much so that I bought a jar of it separately to bring home with me. The fried fish skin was crunchy, but I think it was lacking some salt and was a little fishy. I know the proper way to enjoy is to dip it in the soup of the wonton noodle soup and enjoy it like that, but we were sharing the wonton noodle soup so there wasn't quite enough soup for me to properly enjoy the friend fish skin. I made a mistake thinking Maxi's Noodle 2 was in the same vicinity as this location so we just went here. Anyway, our last time here was during pandemic time - I remember only outdoor seating or take out orders. This time, saw that they had enclosed outdoor seating but was warm there, so we chose indoors with a few tables. There was even a sign which said be ready to share tables with other customers. Before our order was taken, we were asked about food allergies. We wanted the dumplings again, which we loved then, so we got them in a soup and on lomein. They're goood; elongated pieces, with shrimp, pork, mushrooms. The wontons are shrimp-filled. Had to edit: learned from the owner that dumplings and wontons can be ordered a la carte. Great! There are other toppings like dace fish ball, ja jiang (which I wasn't into) etc. The soup broth was tasty. The beef stew ($2 more) added richness; the beef pieces were very tender and flavorful. The egg noodle in the lomein was dry though, plain, not sauteed at all, only with the oyster sauce on one side. Needed some veggies in the lomein, aside from the wilted lettuce. I came on a weekend shortly after 1 PM and there were 4 people in front of us in line. This location is very small, there's like 4 small tables inside and 4 small tables outside, so I wouldn't come with a huge group. However, the tables turnover pretty fast - we only had to wait around 20 minutes after ordering at the front. After you are seated, you can either get water or some hot tea. The food came out pretty fast after we were seated. I ordered the wonton with egg noodle soup - you can add additional toppings if you like, but I thought it was perfect as is. 4 HUGE wontons came with my order - they were all generously filled and you could really taste the shrimp in all the wontons. The wontons were all wrapped neatly as well, so even though they were huge, the filling didn't fall out. Trekked all the way to Flushing in pummeling rain just to try Maxi's wrapped delights, and even though we had some seating snafus in the beginning, I'm not mad I journeyed. Yes, the wontons are great, but I've never been super into wontons so they weren't what I liked best. The best item, for me, was Maxi's guan tang jiao (the "Dumpling" topping), especially when served in a noodle soup with Flat Rice Noodle. I grew up eating this as a specialty item in Cantonese dim sum places (and being scolded by my cost-conscious mother for wanting it because it cost more than the other items). Maxi's version is huge and loaded with generous amounts of shrimp, bamboo and wood ear. Get this. Thank me later. Other items worth mentioning: The Fried Fish Skin is a good soup dipper if you want to add sea flavor to your broth. The Curry Fish Balls aren't bad but you could skip them if you're trying to save stomach skin. And the Dace Fish Balls are just as generous, juicy and flavorful as the dumplings and wontons. Throw in the fact that these bowls cost less than the price of a happy hour cocktail in Manhattan and you really have no reason not to eat here. My Canto grandparents would be so proud. read more

The staff was nice and saw I was struggling holding on to slippery wontons with my chopstick so they gave me a plastic fork (I'm the worst Asian). I paid and was very thankful for my meal. I'll def.
