Some of the stuff we ordered

I love this dim sum spot in the Dublin area. When we arrived on a weekend, the main floor was packed, so they took us to the second floor, which I didn't even know they had! They had to take us out of the restaurant and reenter from the side of the building to go upstairs. The second floor looked just as nice, clean, and spacious. I might even prefer it because it's quieter, more peaceful, and just more comfortable overall. As for the food, most of what we tried was delicious. We ordered some staple dim sum items like pork siu mai and har gow, and both were really good. I also tried the shrimp and scallop dumplings, which are similar to har gow, and those were pretty tasty too. We also got the fried rice with salted fish, and it was made in a "yang chow" style, so it was rather pale in color, but don't let that fool you, because it was really flavorful. We also ordered their fried calamari, which was meh at best and was nothing special. That was probably my least favorite dish. We also got lo mai gai and deep fried taro dumplings filled with pork. Overall, the food was really yummy. The service was great too. The staff were attentive and quick to bring extra chili sauce and other condiments when we requested them. I'd definitely come back again.

Updated review from 7 years, for dinner: Dim sum is always great for family meals but we're also big fans of Chinese family-style dinner where you'll order 8-10 different entrees for 8-10 guests. You can go all out with set banquet menus ranging from $500 to 1000/table, or assemble your own for much lower cost. Mayflower's dinner options are superb and with portion size and quality improving, raising review to 4 stars. Some notable dishes: 1. Whole roasted chicken with crispy skin and sauce on the side is a must for us. Its not listed on the menu, so inform your server and they'll take care of you. 2. Smoked Seabass with mayo (#60) - yes mayo actually pairs well with the giant smoked sea bass fillet with crispy exterior and velvety soft meat underneath. We ordered this dish from a different restaurant for our wedding banquet ages ago and our guests raved about it all night! 3. Salt and Pepper pork chops (#84) were excellent - meaty and soft and balanced with seasoning. I think my son ate an entire chop. 4. Two excellent veggie dishes are Chinese Greens (#118) and sautéed asparagus with mushrooms (#120). 5. Recommend avoiding the tiger prawns (#64) - all the flavor seems concentrated on the shells. They also have free desserts for everyone - choose between mango pudding, cold turtle jelly, and warm red bean tapioca. For picky toddlers they'll also throw in some crispy fortune cookies.

Mayflower has been a regular dim spot for many years when I lived in the Bay Area especially and literally lived across the street Lol and still do go whenever I get a chance. It is very spacious inside with plenty of dining tables. Very clean and well maintained with very nice decor. Lots of parking located at a shopping plaza. Once inside, you'll be gazing at a shiny life-sized glass mosaic horse. It looks incredible!!! Guided and seated at a table with a menu in which you check off which dim sum dishes you want to order. This visit I ordered har gow, siu mai, vegetarian egg roll, and baked egg custard tart. Also got hot tea. Food was delicious as always! Service was very good, and the staff are friendly and very courteous. Will definitely be back again.

Found maggots in my food and they refused to give me a refund. It was in the fried rice BEWARE. I spent $150 for my meal what a waste and slap in the face.

Very busy for a Saturday night! Should've made a reservation, but the wait wasn't terrible for 4 people, maybe 20 mins. Pretty loud too, I felt like I had to yell to talk to people at my table. Cold cut combination platter: large portion and beautifully presented. The taste was just okay though, I thought the beef slices could've been a bit more tender. Braised eggplant: I thought the flavor of the eggplant was good but I think the bell peppers and onions were too crunchy for my preference? Pea sprouts with bamboo pith and fish balls: pea sprouts were a bit tough to chew on. The soup it was in was very tasty though and the leftovers made for a very tasty soup later. Tenderloin beef with Maggie sauce: really good, tender beef cubes. Mushrooms it came with were good but too many onions for my personal preference. At the end of the day, the restaurant is fine if you want a nicer Chinese meal but I feel like the food taste is just alright. I do like the little radish and peanut appetizer and the dessert soup they give you at the end though.

We arrived on Sunday morning at 10 am but the place is already opened even though on the door stated open at 10 am Sunday. Anyway we gathered all our parties and went in for a table. The server is nice and friendly. We walked in and got greeted by the disco giant horse standing in the lobby. Pretty impressive! That was 7 of us and then we of course ordered a bunch of dim sim and a beef chow fry. All the dim sims we tried were very good and delicious. Sorry I was focus on eating and forgot to take pic of the food! And beef chow fan was very yummy too Definitely come early if u can to get a table and gather with your friends and families

We have been meeting up with family and friends at Mayflower restaurant for special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. The restaurant is huge. You are instantly greeted by a giant silver horse as you enter the main dining area in the first floor. On the last two occasions, we were seated in the 2nd floor which is also huge. We ordered a multitude of dishes: Black Bean Chicken Feet, Shumai, Fried Shrimp Balls, Yangzhou Fried Rice, Singaporean Chow Fun noodles, and many more. Shumai and Fried Shrimp Balls (my staple) were good but not top-tier. Chicken Feet though was spectacular. The fried rice was very good as well. Overall, we had a hearty feast for my mom's birthday celebration. I do like to note though that the prices of dim-sum restaurants have skyrocketed though the years. It was pretty pricey, but all of us left full and satisfied, I felt that it was justified.

The first thing that greeted us when we walked in the restaurant was this spectacular shiny Tang horse designed by world renowned visual artist Stephen Stefanou. Wow! We started with complimentary pickled radish/carrots and salted peanuts. We had the smoked sea bass, chau zhou style fried rice seafood BBQ pork and braised tofu with vegetables (mushrooms and baby bok choy). Everything was delicious! For dessert - complimentary red bean soup (delicious!!), fortune cookies and goodies. Our server was sweet and helpful. Beautiful ambience. We could hear each other talk. Free parking on the lot once we were able to find the restaurant! Pricey, but with the comps, service, ambiance, quality of food, well worth it. We'll be back!

A cozy, comfortable spot for dim sum. They have all the classic dishes on the menu. It's packed on weekends. There may be a wait at times. Portions are huge. Best to come with a group and share, so you can taste a lot of different things. This place makes dim sum pretty accessible, with an English menu, easy ordering and helpful servers who can explain the dishes to you. Looks like the cooks really know what they're doing. Scallion pancake had a nice crispy exterior and buttery interior. I had to request sauce for it, it didn't come with any. My favorite thing I tried was rice paper roll with fish fillet and cilantro. The rice paper roll was so soft and yummy, doused with soy sauce. The delicate flavor of cilantro really came through.

Their chili sauce was REALLY good, like I started putting it in everything. Beef rice roll (chang fen)--7.5/10, rice roll was fresh and chewy but skimped on the filling...there was so little beef Steamed bbq pork bun--9/10, this item never disappoints but was not as fluffy as other places I've tried Radish cake--8/10, I would describe it as a slightly savory mochi Sticky rice dumpling wrapped in lotus leaf (zong zi)--10/10, must order for savory lovers. I like to dip it in white sugar. Taro puff--7/10, crispy exterior with meat filling Shu mai--9/10, generous and meaty Black bean spare ribs--8/10, good flavor but some pieces were difficult to chew, fall off the bone was rare I would recommend ordering 6-8 dim sum dishes for two people.

Ask the Community - Mayflower Restaurant

Do they take reservations for party if 4?

I've never seen them take reservations, recommend get there early or go during off hours

Do they have dim sum at night?

    No, dish only.

Will Mayflower be open on Christmas Day?

    Yes

    Do we need a reservation?

Depends on the size of your party. I think they only accept reservations for parties 8 or more. Breakfast/lunch dimsum is usually packed on weekends. The restaurant gets less busy during dinner.

Is outdoor patio dining available on Saturdays?

No, there is no outdoor dining.

Is it cart service or menu ordering?

    It's menu ordering

Can reservation be done for lunch?

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes

    Any outdoor seating?

They used to during Covid, but not now. Indoor is really nice and apart from others

What precautions have you taken for indoor dining? Improved ventilation? Spaced out tables? Limited seating?

Tables are not that spaced. I would suggest you just go on off hours ie not weekend, maybe when they first open.

Are they open for dinner like the vm stated, no one picking up?

Is there private rooms for events?

There is a relatively large room on the second floor, which may be used for the events. You should call to find it out.

How many ppl can the upstairs private dining room accommodate? We want to host an event for 100 people.

180 people they can accommodate upstairs

Is dim sum available at dinner?

We have a full menu of dim sum for lunch only. For dinner, we only offer a selected number of dim sum - Shanghai dumpling, shrimp & pork dumpling, egg roll, pork potstickers.

Unfortunately, my recent visit was incredibly disappointing. The food quality has gone downhill, the prices have become excessive, and what bothered me most was feeling misled by the billing. A cucumber special was advertised at $5.95, but when the bill arrived, the charge was $14.90. On top of that, an automatic gratuity was added to a table of only three people with one of them being 4 year old. She barely even ate with tea price per person. I don't mind paying premium prices for great food and service, but I do expect transparency. Many of the dim sum items also felt extremely overpriced, $9 for two egg tarts is hard to justify and sadly they weren't worth that. Felt like it was not fresh. It's unfortunate because this used to be a place I genuinely looked forward to visiting. Sadly, I don't see myself returning anytime soon.

Convenient televisions on two different sides where all the workers were casually watching, and quite the chatter in the kitchen where they're all watching the World Cup. The rice and noodle dishes were loaded with delicious toppings, and the taste was on point. The BBQ pork and the beef filet dish were both fantastic. The meat/fat ratio of the BBQ pork was just right, and the beef filet cubes were tender and flavorful. The porridge was just okay. My mom's version still reigns supreme. I understand that this particular restaurant has been open for several years now but I did not realize their chain of restaurants have been for almost 20 years! That's quite a feat in my view. Because of my excitement with catching up with my friends, I did not take much pictures of the food or setting but to affirm, the food was delicious and the tea was smooth, fresh; the eatery was nicely decorated and spacious too. Don't know if my non-Chinese friends understand this, BUT YOU CAN ask for various, different kinds of teas and their combination. Yes, multiple pots too. The dim sum is obviously the center piece but the tea "yum chai" is equally the star in my opinion to complement the foods. I recommend a lighter tea for lite drinkers like Chrysanthemum tea ie flower steeped, no caffeine and floral. However, if you want a bold tea try "Bo lay" black tea for lightly sipping when eating lots and lots of heavy food. Pro-tip: For tea adventurers, try a fusion teapot (e.g. Chrysanthemum + Bo lay), combo tea flavors is different and neat when i crave for a different drink. I'll be back for sure. Hope you do too!

Almost no spots open besides one that was too small for other cars but luckily we fit. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Not the cleanest or tidiest of restaurants but usually those are the ones where you know the food is what brings people in regardless. We signed in on a paper sheet and were called to be seated shortly after. After ordering, the food came out very quickly - we almost didn't have enough space on the table! - FOOD - BBQ Pork & Dry Shrimp ($10.25): I'm used to the BBQ Pork being more chopped up, but they keep the pieces here bigger. I think I like BBQ Pork and Dry Shrimp separate more. Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll ($9.00): One of the classics, and will always be my number one pick! I prefer my rice rolls to not have lettuce in them though. Dough Stick Rice Noodle Roll ($7.95): I thought that the dough stick could have been fresher, it was a bit stale by the time we ate it. Pork and Gold Preserved Egg Congee ($7.50): Really well flavored, and good amount of pork and egg. The consistency is thicker than I'm used to but it's still good. Shrimp Wonton Soup ($11.75): Nice clean broth, and the wontons were nicely seasoned. I do wish there was more soup. Shrimp Dumplings ($7.25): We just wanted to try these, and honestly they were just OK. Skin fell apart pretty easily but the shrimp was big. Fried Sesame Balls ($6.00): Also just OK. Typical red bean filling, nothing too special but nice to end the meal with something sweet. - OVERALL - A nice quick lunch with some comforting favorites. I wish we had a rice roll spot in my town!

4.5 rounded up due to the surprisingly warm service…read more Had low expectations for this Shanghainese restaurant in Pleasanton/Livermore area but was pleasantly surprised. I picked it for a family lunch after going to the Livermore outlets. The decor and ambience is typical but relatively nice. We ordered a bunch of Shanghainese classics: Soy milk 4/5 - if you order multiple servings it comes in a large bowl meant for sharing. Can order cold or hot with sugar on the side. Xiao long bao 4.5/5 - I'm pretty picky about xlb and I am partial to the Shanghainese style (vs Taiwanese style you get at DTF and other places) and this was surprisingly good. Before this, my fav in the bay area was I-Shanghai Delight and honestly I think this might rival it. Filling and soup were both savory and light and incredibly umami. Maybe the wrapper at I-Shanghai is a bit thinner but honestly not a huge difference to me. Would def recommend if you like this style. Braised minced eel 5/5 - OMG this was the highlight of the meal for me, and I think only ppl who like this eel dish would understand. I honestly have not found good Shanghainese stir fried eel anywhere else in the Bay area. Chef Zhao's version was good once upon a time but then the most recent time we went, it tasted weird and not fresh. I-Shanghai Delight's was also no good (not fresh). This is the one dish that I will keep coming back here for. Razor clams with ginger and scallion 5/5 - This was also a crowd fav. I don't love clams usually but these were big and meaty and tender, and the sauce is what you would expect. Highly recommend Stewed yellow croaker soup with pickles 3/5 - This was ok and could've been better. Flavor of the soup was good but I think the fish tasted a bit overcooked/dry and could've been more tender. Shredded pork with wild rice shoot 4/5 - This was fine and a very traditional Chinese dish. Nicely done but nothing amazing. Red bean pancake 4/5 - This was a good dish, just not what I expected. I like the red bean pancakes where the pancake part is more doughy while this was like VERY crispy. But the flavor was good Lastly, the lady who took care of our table was SO nice and so chatty and so patient, despite the usual chaos and indecision of large family gatherings. She also packed up all the food for us and even gave suggestions for surrounding Chinese supermarkets. All in all, it was a really pleasant experience with good food and I will def be going back for more

Not sure if I went on an off day, but all the food was mediocre and not well seasoned…read more If the rating was an appropriate 3.5, I would have expected this quality. However, I expected a Dublin Chinese food 4 star restaurant and what I got was a 3 star. Bland crispy duck. Nian gao (mochi) was not offensive but needed extra seasoning Spinach was okay, not bad but not great. Needs an upgrade on their food quality. One nice server and other quiet servers. Nice white tablecloth setting
