Came here for the indoor dining for dim sum. I had not had dim sum in over a year, so yes i drove over 50 miles to get my full! I was a little bummed that they do not have the carts and you have to order off the menu with a paper menu. My favorites were the pork belly and shrimp dumplings. The soup dumplings were dry though and not soupy at all so that was a bummer. Egg tarts were warm and eggy. Overall, it was a good experience and I'll definitely be back! read more

Worth NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!! This was the WORST dining experience in my entire life! My team at work goes to this restaurant for set combo meal at lunch (like for 5-6 people) every 1-2 weeks and the manager already recognized us. Today we wanted to order a set as usual and they didn't have one of the dishes today, 8 streamed surf clams. They just said they don't have surf clams today, then we asked what are the dishes to replace that dish. They only said scallops or oysters and we thought they would also be streamed, cooked in the same way as the surf clams. So we went ahead and ordered the set.l with scallops as replacement. When the scallops came, it looked nothing like a dish at the same value as the surf clams, not even half of the value. (See pics) We called the waiters to come and told him about this concern and asked if they could offer us another dish to make up for the value. They said I already told you we had no surf clams, you shouldn't have ordered this. WTF!!! They basically saying that was OUR fault to order this and we can't do anything about it. I never heard anyone at any restaurants say this to any customers in my entire life. This was a disgrace. At checkout time, we were charged 18% service charge for 6 people, and we didn't wanna pay any tips or service charge for that horrendous service. They said it was from the system, we also can't do anything about it. At the end, we went to the counter to talk to the manager and they also said the same thing to blame us for ordering the combo when we knew the surf clam was out. We were so pissed and raised our voice and argued at the counter and the whole restaurant heard that. They charged us 15% at the end and we were tired of arguing more. We left and decided never going back again. That was just around $40 service charge and they didn't wanna do that for us for regular customers. They really deserve this bad review. The dim sum here are really bad. I ordered seven dim sum today and none of them is close to the standard. Asked the waiter why the dum sum was so bad and he had no idea. I don't understand why people still come back. For people who said they have good dim sum, they probably never had good dim sum in their lives. Shamed on them as well. On top of that they charge a mandatory 18% service which is illegal. For anyone reading, I am going to dispute the 18% service on my credit card. I encourage you to do the same. Started with some dim sum, Pork Dumplings and Shrimp Dumplings, fast and delicious. Beef and Broccoli was tender but lacking of the traditional sauce. House special vegetables with pan fried noodles had a nice gravy. Love the mixture of crunchy noodles mixed with the sauce. Steamed Fish with black Bean Sauce **FAILURE** first they delivered it with a soy sauce and ginger sauce. Per the menu it was supposed to come with the black bean sauce and we made that clear to the waitress when we ordered. To fix it, they simply dumped a bunch of black beans on top of the fish with the existing soy sauce ginger sauce, basically just combining the two together. We returned the fish and asked them to take it off the bill, which they did. Thank you, it's still very frustrating that they would try to serve that incorrect dish to us. read more

I was invited out to Mayflower for a dear friend's wedding reception. This place has some highs and lows. First, an insight on the banquet dinner menu: There was a cold appetizer plate (with the usual jellyfish, seaweed salad, cha siu, etc), a fried shrimp dumpling around a crab leg, conch served like stuffing in a seashell, abalone with sea cucumber on greens, steamed fish, baked lobster with ginger and green onions, fried sticky rice with Chinese sausage, house special deep-fried garlic chicken, bird's nest soup, and like three types of dessert (red bean soup, these pineapple newton type things, a crunchy sesame pastry, and an amazing wedding cake with mango mousse). Whoa! Okay, so reception ended up being two hours behind so the 6pm dinner was actually at like 8pm. It could be because we were all starving by that point but there was a lot of good eats (and not so good)! I really enjoyed the cold appetizer mainly because I love jellyfish. The fried shrimp on the crab leg was also good, if not a little greasy. The house special deep-fried garlic chicken was pretty amazing. I could eat the skin off that bird as a course in itself because I'm young, unhealthy, and have issues adulting. The abalone and sea cucumber entree also had good flavor. Now for the not so good: The conch tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing and I'm curious as to where the actual conch meat was. The lobster we had ended up being overcooked and a little fishy but the ginger and onion masked the dead lobster taste well. I didn't care for the sticky rice entree as it was standard fare. The fish was also standard. All in all, I had a pretty great dinner and sat at the best table! No complaints here. **During COVID-19 Outdoor Dining** We came here as a party of 4 on a Saturday morning and it was starting to get busy. We thought they opened at 10:30 AM, but maybe they opened earlier. We were fortunate to get one of the last few tables. Literally 10 minutes later, there was a line and people waiting to be seated. AMBIANCE: Plenty of outdoor dining. They have little tents for larger groups -- typical table for 8-10. They also have smaller tables to accommodate couples. I was amazed at how many tables they had set up for dim sum as a lot of dim sum places only allow for takeout and not outdoor dining. The waiter or waitress serves a teapot with hot water along with an empty bin so you can rinse off your cups, bowls, plates, and spoons. DRINKS: We ordered the chrysanthemum pu-ehr tea and it was good. Very traditional. FOOD: We ordered A LOT of dim sum. We were eating with our eyes instead of our tummies! :P - Xiu mai: The pork and shrimp dumplings were topped with roe. They were very meaty and a good size. I enjoyed the texture of the pork and shrimp. This came out piping hot! - Har gow: I normally prefer xiu mai over har gow, but the shrimp dumplings here definitely have lots of shrimp! The clear wraps weren't too thick and were very tasty. Well executed! - Egg tarts: Egg tarts were a little small, but they are the traditional Chinese pastries with the flaky crust! Definitely loved the crispy outer texture. The egg custard inside was smooth and not too sweet. Although small, they were still delicious. - Crispy noodles with seafood: This was the only disappointing dish. The noodles and sauce were overly salty. Literally, all we tasted was sodium! It was hard to take more than 3 bites of this... :/ Not worth the $17. - Chicken feet in black bean sauce: They were soft and very flavorful. - Spare ribs in black bean sauce: I expected a little more out of this dish, but there were more bones than meat. The meat was too chewy -- not tender enough. It also wasn't super flavorful so this was not a memorable dish for me. - BBQ pork buns: They ran out of them even though they opened at 10:30. Odd! - Chinese broccoli and oyster sauce: Standard kai lan steamed with oyster sauce on the side. The veggies were very thick... could use some cutting. :) Whew that was a lot of food... SERVICE: Service wasn't great. It was so hard to flag down the waiters and waitresses. They were not attentive and it took us a while before we got to-go boxes or our bill. We understand they were busy, but they were properly staffed... not sure where the delays came from. The waitresses are also a little impatient and rude. IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON: ASK HOW MUCH THE FISH COSTS. DON'T EAT IT FIRST AND PAY $150. You know how you enter a restaurant and waiters are wearing suits with bow ties and you expect good service? Or any restaurant with honest wait staff? My family went here as a last minute choice because the restaurant we initially wanted was booked for a wedding...Mayflower will be my last choice restaurant. I will skip a meal instead of eating here. (SKIP DINNER. Dimsum lunch is ok here.) *note: not all waitstaff was bad here: this is one waitress that represents everything service should NOT be. I ask our waitress what the most popular seafood dishes at this restaurant are. She lists about 20. My dad asks her what the most popular fish is. She says this whole fish, rock cod, steamed. That sounds simple. My dad says that sounds fine. She said it's the most expensive fish, so I was getting a little uneasy. It was my dad's birthday dinner though, so one expensive fish...$50? I guessed would be ok. Every dish on the menu was less than $30. She then recommends a bunch of expensive dishes, and when I clarify that we don't want the most expensive jumbo shrimp, we want popular dishes, she said, in the most snooty voice, " The shrimp I'm recommending is fresh. The one on the menu you're pointing to is frozen." Lady, that makes you and your restaurant look bad. Her entire attitude was like she was dealing with poor country bumpkins. We had already ordered the fish, it was too late, but we decided to ignore her recommendations and chose our own dishes. The entire dinner was unmemorable. The food was overall ok. Well, there was one beef dish that was stir-fried in KETCHUP. Uck. The fish came dead last, after we were done eating 9 other dishes even though we ordered it 30 minutes before ordering the other dishes (we were waiting for some people to arrive). The waiters kept saying it takes time to make the fish--an hour?? The fish is STEAMED. It takes at most 15 minutes to steam a fish! The fish is good, a soft, melty, mild taste with very few bones. Not great, not amazing, not memorable. Then the bill came... I had 2 bites of the fish, and it seemed so did everyone else... at $8 a bite. The best part about this is that we have a memorable "remember the time with the $150 fish?" ALWAYS. ASK. FOR MARKET PRICE. Ask your waiter for the price of the recommended dish. I have had so many lovely, honest waiters and waitresses recommend some of the best items on the menu. We trusted this waitress...and she was a LIAR. There is no way this dish was the most popular fish at $150 a pop. This restaurant's culture is suspicious. Several waiters defended the long wait time of the fish. When you suspect something, cancel the order. Don't feel the need to stay at a restaurant. We should have left while we were waiting. read more

My friends organized an early morning group dim sum at Mayflower Restaurant during the weekend. Located in the Milpitas Mall where 99 Ranch Market is located, there are plenty of parking spots, boba shops, Hong Kong desserts, pastries and etc. for your to gander while you wait for a seat. We arrived at 10am and easily got a table for 6. I really like how they kept the dim sum cart tradition with staff pushing it around the room, as oppose to customers just ordering from a menu. I love a dim sim place with pushing carts! That really gives customers an opportunity to see, and smell, what dishes they want. A few things I observed during our experience is the Mayflower staff here are quite insistent on patrons selecting food from their cart, almost to the point where it feels pushy. A few times my friends felt compelled to take on food that they did not want because the servers were excessively assertive. Also, understand that coming to a crowded Asian restaurant can be almost impossible to catch the attentive of a server, but even at 10am in the morning with only four to five other tables, it was amazingly hard to catch the attention of a waiter/waitress. We waited ~ 10-15 minutes for ice water. What really pushed my review to 2 stars is when I received the check and saw how Mayflower charges the pot of tea by the total number of people in your party, not by pot. So even if we ordered one pot of tea, we were charged 6 quantities because we had a party of 6. Overall feelings of our Mayflower dim sum experience: delicious food; interesting service; really interesting way of charging tea. read more

My believe is if you want to enjoy a certain cuisine, find out where the natives are eating. Mayflower is one of those places. Great for Dim Sum and other dishes. Is the service great? 3 stick dumplings for 6.x dollars. I used to come to this restaurant at least once per week before pandemic. I don't really expect they would sell 3 dumplings for 6+ dollars. It is ridiculous especially there are 6 or more dumplings in the menu pics. But this is what they did. I guess things have been changed since pandemic. Not really an inflation issue. We got invited to a fancy sit down red egg and ginger party here. This was my first time here and the parking lot was too crowded so we parked outside on the street. There are so many restaurants in this large strip mall so it's no wonder there were so many cars on a Saturday. We were impressed by how large the restaurant was and there were partitioned rooms for private parties. One of them was the baby party we attended. I was so impressed as the waiters are well dressed and served us well. To me, the food was like eating at a wedding banquet, starting with bbq combo platter appetizers, fish maw and crab meat soup, walnut prawns, sauteed beef with mixed mushrooms, Peking duck skin with bun, sauteed minced duck meat served in lettuce cup, lobster with ginger and green onion, pan fried whole flounder, fried noodle with seafood and red bean soup. The most outstanding dish was the sauteed minced duck meat served in lettuce cup and the bbq combo platter appetizers. The rest of the dishes needed more seasoning but there were condiments on the lazy susan such as hoisin sauce, sweet and sour sauce, etc. but the food itself needed more taste. Absolutely horrible, during lunch time when we ordered the combo lunch menu, they did not have the giant turf clam as stated on the menu, per conversation with the waiter we did not receive the correct replacement dish as promised, instead, we were provided with just veggies. Additionally, the services was beyond trash with waiter yelling and calling their customer cheap while stating that their price has already been more than fair. It's been a while since we have been back to Mayflower Restaurant and nothings changed. The dim sum has always been good but the service is what makes you hesitate to come back. I don't know what it is with Cantonese / Dim Sum restaurants but the servers and managers must " hate their jobs". They either ignore your requests or have a sour puss expression when they do finally get to you. I don't know if its the stress of being busy, bad attitude, or low wages. Every time I go to these restaurants, I need to adjust my expectations for reasonable politeness and courtesy. It actually becomes a game with the interactions. A good place for Dim sum and Chinese banquets. Get's busy and noisy on weekends. All the standard Dim Sum fare at average to slightly above average quality. Most dishes clean. Many specials for dinner. King crab or lobster fried in a batter of salted egg is always tasty (but greasy). Crispy whole fried chicken stuffed with sticky rice is another winner. Some of the waiters can be shady and try to upsell some special menu items. I've been disappointed by some concoction that what looked like scrambled eggs with shark fin. Baked tapioca dessert is a pretty good. Flagging down someone for extra napkins or water can be challenge sometimes. Make reservations. If you want to dine in peace don't go on a weekend when they are having a huge banquet party. Bad wedding karaoke can give me indigestion. read more

I loved the stir fried lobster dish and the succulent and tender abalone! Well done! They do dim sum in the mornings and afternoons too! Arrived to the restaurant at 10:15A.M and got seated right away but the food took forever to come around. Service at dimsum is typical like everywhere else. They ask which tea you want, drop it off and voila. Everywhere charges for tea so it's a norm. All 3 cups on the table had dirty stuff sticking indide. It was not cleaned. Why is there food stuck in tea cups anyway? I wasn't fully disturbed yet since it was not food related I guess. We might have came too early. So the food wasn't prepared yet. They had one cart circling around and that was the steamed buns cart lady. Maybe 15 minutes later, there were more carts going around. Even then, we didn't get the siu mai cart toward the end when we were about to leave. I guess don't come too early when they are not prepared yet? I did not try the siu mai but my friend said it wasn't the best he ever had. I thought the steamed buns & chicken feet were alright. If anything, it was a tad salty for me. I've been here 3 times in the last 2 weeks. I would give it 5 stars, but I have yet to see a bill, so I don't know how much they cost. Once was for dim sum. It was pretty good. Quality of food and the service were both above par. I came here twice for dinner. I came with someone that is a regular. The service was just ridic! They ladle the soup for you. Basically when you finish your first bowl, they are there again to ladle another bowl. We never had to ask for more tea. They were on the ball. When our plates were "dirty" they brought new clean ones. The food was on point. The fish was pretty crazy good. If you freak out when you see a fish eye, or have to eat around bones, then maybe don't get the fish here. Otherwise, WOW! We had this one beef dish, and the beef was stupid tender! Topped it off each time with a dessert, the most recent time was daoufu fah. A literal translation is tofu flower. Essentially its a really soft tofu, served warm, and with a ginger/sugar syrup over it. Yeah, I'm probably not doing it any justice by describing it, but if you know what it is, and you like daofu fah, then you'll love it here. It was the most smooth silken daofu fah I've ever had. I grabbed a banquet menu, and the prices look really reasonable. You can fed 10 people for under $23/head. And for that price, you get 10 courses! 4 of them are seafood, including crab and prawns... Finally after so many months, Mayflower is reopen again! This is my favorite authentic Cantonese restaurant in the area, even better than Koi in my opinion. They do listen if I asked for less oil and sodium. ( Except for dim sum). My favorite dish is Salted eggs fried crab with pumpkins. I ordered that for take out tonight and it is as good as it was before dinning in. I also tried a vegetarian dish with lotus roots, celery, pumpkin and mushroom! Light and crunchy. Yum! They now have outdoor and partially indoor dinning in addition to take out. It's still pretty quiet so social distancing is more than enough. (As of 10/29/20). I think the front entrance is not well lit enough so not very obvious unless you get closer. read more

Came here a wet Sunday afternoon to get my grub on and usually I can count on Mayflower to satisfy any type of dim sum craving. Not sure what happened today. So first off, it was already 1pm. You would imagine the crowd should have died down already and it did. The parking lot though did not reflect this situation. It was packed. People were fighting over spaces. There was honking and angry asians *scary*. Well we actually were lucky and was seated in about 10-15 min. We ended up grabbing our number, walking over to Sheng Kee to get an egg tart, and walked back to Mayflower ready to be seated. What disappointed me was the food. So first we get the mango and shrimp wrap deal. But it felt like it was sitting out for a while. Then shrimp balls...again very cold. Then a slough of bamboo containers full of shanghai dumplings, sui mai, & har gaw. The shanghai dumplings were soupy, but the dough hardened pretty quickly. The ginger sauce wasn't great either. Then the others were ok. For a final dish we got the bbq pork wrapped in noodles which was mushy and the bbq pork was a bit on the dry side. Super sad. I came here once at like 11:30 and 2pm and the quality seemed to be better. Perhaps today was an off day for them. But what I did enjoy was having seats with a view of all the live seafood. He was able to pull some string with the asst mgrs and got us seated ASAP! ;) To my surprise, the food was pretty good. Their Dim Sum selection was good and all their items came out zesty hot! Service is lacking, typical of Chinese restaurants, so I'm okay with it... We topped off our luncheon w/ the two way fish special: Congee w/ fish, as well as Fish Chow Fun. First time going to this location, though I have been to 2 of the other locations. They are all huge and meant for larger group eating, 4 is a small table here, while 8-10 seems more to be the norm. I'd also say that these Mayflowers are more "special" occasion gatherings, versus let's just grab a bite type of place. If you were to watch the huge plates whiz by, you'll see lots of crab, lobster, whole fish and duck. These are not your run of the mill Chinese food offerings. And the pricing will reflect that as well $$$. This review is not for dim sum. It is for a dinner outing. I also want to address the service, as many that have low ratings will have a rant about the service. The service here is your standard Chinese style, where they will take your order, drop it off and not much in between. They will pack up your leftovers which is nice, which a lot of regular Asian places won't do, they'll leave it to the diners. They also swapped out our plates once, which was a nice touch IMO. So for a Chinese style restaurant, service was just fine for me, if not above par. Sole done 2 ways ($32/3*) I love the concept of taking one specimen and utilizing different cooking techniques to different parts. A large flat fish is filleted. The boneless filleted meat is sautéed very simply with ginger and scallions. The bones and fin areas are lightly battered and fried til almost crisp. The two dishes are put together on one dish, to reconstruct the fish's shape. Impressive to me. The fillet meat was uber tender and mild, just as expected. I felt the sauce could've had more umph as it gave off a bland vibe. I had to season the leftovers and it was much better. The fried pieces were 2 different experiences. The bones were crisp and almost edible throughout. Just the big spine bones were not crisp enough to crunch through. The fin areas were incredibly gelatinous and squishy. Also the super fine bones are bordering on dangerous and tedious to deal with. Also lots of fish oil in this area, so it has more of that "fishy" sensation. Dried Scallop Fried Rice ($16/5*) Really nice. Shreds of dried scallop adds instant umami. Droplets of cooked egg white plays with the scallop texture. Not a drop of soy sauce so the dish remained pretty white. The rice also clumped together a bit, which I tend to like. More authentic actually. Braised Abalone with Tender Greens ($42/5*) Abalone is one seafood that I don't get a chance to eat often, but I friggin' love it. I love the chewy, rich texture. It actually resembles a super firm mushroom, a mushroom of the sea if you will. And here they use baby/tiny abalone and serve it whole. When braised it looks dead on like whole shitake mushrooms. Scan the pic, and tell me different. But the sauce looked overly starched. But taste wise, it was just fine. Actually the brown gravy had the most tasty flavor. Maybe a little a soy, maybe some seafood stock, but boy was it balanced and delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Even the baby bok choy that soaks in this sauce, gets elevated instantly. Expensive but a must get for me. Mayflower is bustling and hectic, but the food is special enough for me to endure the environment. I'll try and bring a bigger group next time, so maybe we can just be a part of the madness. read more

I came here last week with my colleagues for lunch on a Friday. Since we arrived at 11:40 AM, there was plenty of tables. Ordering was easy as we had a good spot in the restaurants where carts rolled by all the time. We ordered Chinese broccoli, shui mai, haw gao, beef cheong fun, shrimp cheong fun (shrimp wrapped in rice noodle paper with sweet soy sauce), stir fry noodles, steamed pork bun, garlic chives with shrimp wrapped in rice noodle paper and lightly pan fried, shrimp wrapped in cabbage (yum) and a few more dishes. All dishes were good and there wasn't much grease left over on my plate!! The food was definitely 4.5 stars that day. Everything was fresh and piping hot!! If you're sat nearby one of their folding screens, try not to look at the stains too hard, and the spin tables aren't too clean either. Food. It's okay. I actually quite liked the fried rice, can really taste the wok char. The rest of the food left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly good. The peking duck came with misshapen buns (but at least they weren't dense) and "just ok" flavor. The vegetables (green beans, broccoli) were alright, but you can certainly find better. The noodles with lobster were also "just ok." Oh and if you are the type to care about the quality of water, the water given tastes like par for the course restaurant tap water. I wonder how many people went here on purpose. It was quite busy, but the whole establishment feels like this is the place you go to when your initial restaurant of choice is too busy. 3.75 stars I have always seen this place in the Milpitas Square shopping center and I knew it was the place to be for dim sum. My friend and I tried it out one day for the dim sum and it was busy. We got seated promptly since we were a party of two only and just minutes later, the place was standing room only waiting for tables. The place is nice and can handle hundreds of hungry customers. My friend and I were definitely hungry and wanted to sample all sorts of dim sum items. We tried the rolled rice sheets, fried taro, xiu mai (steamed won tons), shrimp dumplings, and several other items which I don't know the name of. The items were hot and fresh but the quality was alright. The items such as the steamed rice sheets were your standard and nothing special. While the shrimp dumplings, I would need extra soy sauce to enhance the flavor of the item. I usually judge a place by its xiu mai and this place had good xiu mai but it didn't blow my mind away. Fried taro, nothing special even though it's my favorite dim sum item of all time. We had many plates but like I said, it's typical dim sum food. There is nothing special nor anything that stood out to me. I rather go to SF for dim sum and spend the extra bucks to get items you cannot find anywhere else. read more

This place is known for its dim sum, but my family decided to try this place out for dinner since they have a lot of seafood dishes. Hence, we ended up ordering only dishes with seafood. The deep fried oyster was meh. There wasn't much flavor too it and there was a thick coat of batter. The scallop dish with pine nuts was decent. The scallop seemed relatively fresh although the ingredients in the dish didn't seem to go well together. The deep fried fillet of rod cod was my favorite dish. The rod cod with lots of corn starch was drenched in sweet and sour sauce. This dish isn't for everyone especially if you don't like the sauce. For the price and quality of food, I could have better dinner elsewhere. read more

I've been here many times with my family, and there has not been any improvement. The food here is pricey and the quality is bad. I would not waste my money at this place. Better spend it at other chinese restaurants. Just sayin. When you order their fried rice, they don't have a lot of ingredients in it besides rice. Not really worth ordering it, also they add a lot of msg into their food, very salty. It makes you thirsty after eating the food. Their seafood is not fresh either, so don't order crabs and scrimps. It may look good, but it tastes gritty in your mouth. Also, their service sucks. They take forever to get you plates and utensils. You have to hunt them down to get it. And their utensils are dirty too. For example, when I was about to drink out of the glass cup there was still left over stains on it with little specs of left over food. It was disgusting!! I had to trade my cup with my boyfriend because he wasn't going to use his. They really need to wash their stuff and polish it before giving it to the customer. This is not acceptable. Overall, I wouldn't come to this restaurant, unless someone pays me to come here. I wouldn't spend my own money. Let's just say, when you walk by this place, you can just skip it. read more

I used to like this place several years ago, so much so that we tend to always come here when we're in the area. We haven't been here since the pandemic and was eager to finally get to eat here. After our visit yesterday, we'll never come here again. For one, food quality had gone down. A couple of my favorite dim sum were no longer on the menu. Overall, all the items were just ok, only two of our 7 dishes were really good. 2nd, we went on a Sunday during lunch and they didn't push the dim sum charts. You just order everything from the menu. Not seeing the carts pushed around took away the whole experience of going to eat dim sum. Third, they brought me the wrong order of a cold appetizer platter. I told them it's the wrong one and they insisted it's the right one. I told them it's not and they pointed to the receipt printout that showed that item. Well, it turned out my server keyed in the wrong item to begin with, thus the reason the wrong item came out. I didn't want to keep arguing so just took it. If this wrong item was good, I wouldn't mind, but I didn't care for it and it costed the same as the one I actually wanted but didn't get. Fourth, and this one was a big deal, not once did my server come by to check on us after he took our order. We wanted forks and waited a long time to finally be able to flag another server to get us forks. It almost seems like all the servers were trying to avoid eye contact with us. We later wanted water refill but couldn't flag anyone down a 2nd time and just gave up. Due to the poor service throughout and getting our order wrong, we were inclined to tip on the lower end. To our surprise, the receipt included a mandatory 18% service charge, and we were only a party of 2. There was no way to change the tip amount as I was very unsatisfied with their service. With this mandatory tip, they have no need to ever improve their service. Will never come here again. read more

Located in the "Asian heaven" of Milpitas Square, Mayflower is your typical dim sum place. Things that stood out: - Those giant clams doe. This dim sum place is KNOWN for THIS $6.00 per person dish. ORDER IT and revel in the seafood glory (photo included) - Attentive managers (dudes wearing black and white suits) who really watched over us, especially as we were one of the later lunch customers - No traditional dim sum carts :( I was bummed when I found out that Mayflower doesn't use dim sum carts to push around their entrees. BOO HOO, that sort of changes the ambiance/curiosity levels too - Tip: They start to die down/close up around 2PM once the lunch rush is over There aren't many pescatarian/vegetarian options, but it's enough to get by with some of my go-to's like the shrimp rice rolls, steamed tofu roll, egg tarts, etc. The quality of the dim sum is pretty good, but I don't think their selection is as great as my favorite South Bay dim sum place, HK Saigon off of Lawrence Expressway. Anyways, I absolutely LOVED their giant clam dish, which my Mom said was apparently what ALL of her legit Cantonese coworkers clamored about. After one bite of this delicious delicacy, I knew why they were hooked on this one dish. This restaurant was not bad 10 years but now the food is below average dim sum places in Bay Area. Much worse than Koi Palace. The problem are 1. charge near 20% service fee instead of tips. So the service is really bad because it doesn't matter if they server customers good or bad. 2. They hide price from the menu on purpose so when you order dishes you have no idea what you are going to pay for. You only know the price when you see your bill. We were the first ones who came in because our last experience with them was great, the dimsum was to die for. But this time, the service was just horrible! The lady with glasses who kind of resembles Edna from the Incredibles was just plainly rude, all because my mother in law was asking for sugar. We were waiting patiently for the hakao cart to pass us but for some reason they kept on evading our table. I gave 2 stars just because I can't deny that their dim sum was the bomb! The other wait staff was attentive to refill our drinks one of the staff was kind enough to ask us if we needed something. I usually don't drop review within the first day after eating at a spot but I do taste the experience after a few day away. You can't go wrong with having dumpling in the early AM. For that reason I drop by and order so much for breakfast time. We walk in and was immediately seated. Its best to get there before opening as it can get pack in minutes after opening time. Outdoor dining of course so it was a bit chilly so grab a coat or what not. After order the first few batch was serve within 5 minutes. The rest of the order came about 10 minutes after which is to be expected. Every bite of what we ate was incredible! Just wish they had better sauce option for the dumplings and more sauce on the bok choi. Overall it was a great breakfast and left with a heavy stomach. Delish! read more

Tip: order the lunch specials, which are a great value The Mongolian Beef (Lunch Special C -$12) comes with excellent shrimp and chive egg rolls (instead of the usual carrot/cabbage/onion variety you often see at Chinese restaurants), shrimp and bbq fried rice, chicken corn soup, and tofu in syrup (douhua). Have ordered through DoorDash several times. I've also been many times for dim sum and think the versions of the standards are executed better than in other joints. Also, this is the only place I can find in the South Bay that still serves fried mango and shrimp (with cilantro and bamboo shoot) rolls consistently. If anyone sees mango shrimp rolls anywhere close by, please do me (and all other dim sum fans) a solid and put the word out. I love this item so much used to give myself a weekly allowance for it at Loon Wah (which has since shuttered and is now Golden Palace) and have been searching for one as good ever since. read more

Dim sum is pretty solid. They have all the regular dishes that you want. Not amazing... but above average quality and taste if you ask me. Shrimp noodle crepes, spare ribs, har gow, siu mai, chicken feet, shrimp eggplant, fried shrimp with mayo, beef balls, vegetable balls, sticky rice wrapped in leaves, and a bunch others. Service was alright. We came when it literally opened on the weekend. I would suggest waiting a little bit because everything was still being prepared, lol.
