This restaurant has a lot going for it: attractive ambiance, with its arched doorway, old-fashioned bar and color palette of muted red and cool blues and greens; a wide ranging menu encompassing brunch, lunch and dinner; and a different appeal (there aren't too many Filipino restaurants in the burbs). However, a couple things keep this from being 5 stars. Accessibility. When you enter you are immediately greeted by...a set of stairs. I thought maybe there was a way to enter via the patio...but that's raised. What does a person in a wheelchair do if they want to eat here? Service. When we sat down we were greeted by one server who was apparently going to be ours...but then disappeared. Eventually a totally different guy came over and introduced himself as if we'd never been through that before. Confusion? Audience. Based on the fancy appearance and ambitious , cocktail-laden menu, I assumed this would be a more adult restaurant (also since they have a speakeasy in the basement). So it was a bit surprising to have a balloon animal artist walking around at brunch and lots of kids, and a mention on the "upcoming events" sign in the bathroom for "Family Game Night." So...who exactly is the audience for this restaurant? The food was quite good: I really enjoyed my fried chicken and ube waffles with spicy syrup, and my boyfriend had the sausage breakfast sandwich which he said was good. I was taken here for a birthday breakfast with some friends, and the experience was pretty great with some downsides. The eggs were nicely cooked, fluffy, and fresh. Lumpia was fairly favorable, but the sauce was a bit strange for the dish. I'd probably eat the lumpia by themselves next time without the sauce. The arroz caldo or rice porridge was definitely a standout dish. The flavor was original and yet familiar for the dish, savory with a bit of lemon taste for freshness. (Highly recommended) Finally, for the main dish, I had the Uber waffle and chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the sour sauce on it was very overwhelming. As for the waffle, it had the color of ube but barely had the distinct flavor. It was good in an interesting way, but I'd wish the execution was a bit different. Might try a different dish next time. Service for my trip was good, but they apparently ran out of many drinks on their menu the day before and hadn't restocked. It was kind of a bummer, but it didn't affect my experience too much. Came here with a group of girlfriends for a group dinner on a Saturday night a few weekends ago. Cute space! The ambiance is very welcoming, and we had almost the whole back room to ourselves. To start, to drink we tried a few different cocktails including espresso martinis and the No Sleep Till Jalisco, which was like a spicy marg with a fun mango tajin sucker, SO so good! To eat we shared an order of lumpia and the hush puppies, both were phenomenal. The lumpia came with a generous amount, and the hush puppies sauce was outstanding. For my main course I ordered the Pork Belly Bao and the Brussel Sprout Salad. That salad was absolutely incredible, it was almost like fried brussel sprouts, so it didn't taste 'healthy' but it tasted oooh sooo good. Addicting! That was definitely the favorite of the dishes. We also tried the Pork Belly Adobo, which was a bit disappointing. It was just large pieces of fatty pork belly, and no accompaniments. No bread or anything to go with it.. definitely felt like it was missing something, but was not bad. We also tried the burger which was good, and the green beans as well which were delicious. Overall, we had a great time at Maypole! Large space to accommodate our group, seems great for girls night out but I can also see a family eating here no problem. Wheaton downtown has evolved over the years and it's certainly a pleasure to experience the diverse cuisines it has to offer. We have been to Maypole twice, once for brunch and the other time for dinner. Both times were enjoyable. For brunch, we had the lumpia, bistek Filipino breakfast, and chicken and waffles. The lumpia came with eight pieces and a side of sweet chili sauce. The bistek Filipino breakfast is braised beef steak with a side of garlic rice and two eggs. The beef was incredibly tender and juicy. The fried chicken is not spicy but it came with a side of spicy maple syrup. We did not use the syrup since we shared the entree with our young daughters. The waffle was made with ube and it was fluffy. For dinner, we had the lumpia, pork belly adobo, and fried chicken sandwich. The pork belly adobo had a hint of coconut and was paired with pickled carrot and daikon. It was light and refreshing despite it being fatty meat. However, I found it weird that this dish was awkwardly "lonely" because it was a plate with three slabs of thin-sliced pork belly. I think it could've been further enhanced by a side of rice. The fried chicken sandwich is a very generous amount that can easily be shared. We look forward to returning and trying the other dishes such as the fried fish and mussels. read more

Late post. Being Filipino, I was so excited to try this restaurant . Our family of 5 came early on a Sat in late Sept. to try their breakfast menu. The bright and colorful decor and friendly service were positivs. But the food / value was underwhelming. We ordered: tofu sisig, Filipino breakfast, tortang talong, ube pancakes, breakfast sandwich, ube roll, and arroz caldo. The sisig was bland. The longanisa in the Filipino breakfast was dry. The talong was good but overpriced. The best dish was the arroz caldo... Flavorful and delicious. The rest of the dishes were just okay. I really wanted to love this place but was disappointed. A couple of oddities: They didn't serve Sprite or similar. Their cola products tasted bad/off. Maybe their was a problem with their soda machine. They also didn't serve sugar (for coffee). Took my friend to Maypole for her birthday and she loved it. We had an amazing time. Our server, Megan, was wonderful, gave good recommendations. My friend had thousands of questions and she was so sweet. We were seated in the front area and had a very English countryside vibe. We started with the egg rolls, crunchy and delicious. We also ordered the Maypole meat sampler (the pork belly was my fave), pancit, sisig tofu (spicy goooood) - all super yummy. My fave was the Filipino breakfast plate with bistec (steak), garlic fried rice and 2 eggs - it was all cooked to perfection. The sunny side eggs had the crunchy edges just the way I like it. The fried rice had plenty of garlic. And the steak was nice and juicy. I can eat that dish all day and every day. I wish I didn't live so far away, but I will make the 30 mile drive. Our experience at Maypole the other week was fabulous. Starting with the drinks - my husband got one of their specials that our server recommended - with gin / fruits. It was one that the bartender brought back during that weekend. I got the Dragonfruit Cosmo - b/c I usually don't like gin. However - for my second drink I switched to the special b/c it was that good. My cosmo was good - but the special was outstanding. The bartender knows what he is doing - and the drinks come out very quickly and in cute glasses! For food - we got the brussel sprouts salad, spicy aligue noodles and the spicy fried chicken. It was a massive amount of food and we brought most of the chicken home. Our server forewarned us, but we wanted to try several dishes for our first time there. The salad was my favorite and my husband loved the noodles best. Both had a great spice to them and we were so impressed by the flavor of both. The fried chicken (boneless) was huge! The spiciness of the chicken was due to the sauce they put on it. Quite messy but quite good. Next time - I think I would go sans sauce, however. Our server was great - and we loved sitting outside. I have never noticed this adorable patio in downtown Wheaton and decided to grab a late lunch one Sunday. It wasn't super busy and we got seated immediately on the patio! It's a bit of a tight squeeze if you're at certain tables. I tried the Filipino breakfast which was so good! I am impressed that I haven't found anything bad to say about the food here yet. I came here for breakfast with friends recently and got new items. They were all high quality Quality- the congee was very good. I could taste a blend of savory flavors in it. A nice mix of refreshing fish and meat taste. Such a unique and cute spot to grab food! We made a reservation ahead of time but they didn't have a table for us so we had to wait. They were super jam packed, but service was good and everyone was friendly and helpful. We went for dinner and got the pre fix menu which is $60 and well worth the value. prefix comes with Lumpia and brussel sprout salad to start. And let me tell you, you MUST TRY the brussel sprout salad. I'm not usually a huge fan of brussel sprouts but these blew me away! It's slightly spicy and savory, packed with umami flavors. Next was the Maypole Sampler, comes with practically all the meats on their menu, fried fish, hot and fried chickens, and pork belly adobo. All are delicious, very much fried served with sauces on the side. Pork belly was so tender and juicy. Their rice was also unique and I very much enjoyed the firmness and unique seasoning! Lastly you finish the night with a Turon Sundae, which is coconut pineapple ice cream topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a fried spring roll filled with banana and jackfruit. Went to Maypole for breakfast prior to walking over to the farmers market. Very good food and atmosphere. Food was very flavorful as I ordered a more "traditional" breakfast. My progression through the menu is probably expressed best in the photos I've taken. I will get everything I ordered, and ate, AGAIN! The ambiance is very hospitable with an inviting decor. Been here twice now and my rating has not changed. Husband and I both felt like portions were small and overpriced. We were impressed by the drinks and desserts....but the food is not something worth coming for. For brunch, husband had the Filipino breakfast which was very basic. Being Filipino himself, he felt like he could have made it better himself. I ordered the veggie breakfast sandwich which was good, but nothing to rave about. We came here again for lunch at another time and had the same underwhelming experience. Husband decided on the bistek bowl, which he felt like he should have gotten in a sandwich. That 'build your own' option on the menu is nice.... but not when it's too customizable to where some ingredients don't make sense to be in a bowl, such as cheese. The servers didn't even recommend to remove that...so he ended up eating cheese over rice and meat in his bowl. I decided on the fried fish sandwich - which I liked but we both weren't happy about the total amount we had spent for lunch. I really liked the ube cheesecake dessert. It was very smooth, delicious, and the ube taste is strong. The drinks here are unique and I enjoyed the different flavors. The ambiance of Maypole is nice as well....but I do think the outdoor and atrium seating is tight and too close to others. This is not a good option if you want privacy with your party or if you plan on having intimate conversations. I wanted to come and support Maypole as this is his my husband's culture, likewise he wanted to try out this new restaurant to see if it would become a favorite. Food: The arroz caldo was the standout dish, it was a very savory bowl of rice porridge. Hashbrowns were crunchy but lacking in flavor. The chicken and ube waffles was a mixed bag. The chicken had nice texture with crunch and good flavor. There was a lot of sweet and sour sauce drenching the ube waffles, which overpowered the ube. When I got a bite of the waffle by itself, the ube flavor was very subtle. We went on a Saturday morning for brunch and though they have open bar, the drinks options was very lacking, apparently they ran out the night before and hadn't re-stocked. Since they've opened, I've been here three times. Twice for breakfast and then for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and modern. Love that they have different areas to seat people. The outdoor area is super cute too, reminds me of European cafes. The food is very good. I do wish they provide more rice that goes with the Longanisa breakfast and some kind of greens with it. I'm glad to see the recent explosion of Filipino food into the mainstream dining scene. It's finally getting some long overdue exposure and recognition. Filipino breakfast always hits the spot for me so it's nice to have options popping up in the suburbs now, so we don't have to drive all the way to the city and wait in line for an hour. Maypole just opened in the last few weeks in the heart of downtown Wheaton and reservations are still pretty easy to get for now. When you first walk in it's hard to not be impressed. The ambiance and décor would be able to compete with even the trendiest of new spots in Chicago. It's owned by the same team from Common Good in Glen Ellyn, so we already knew the drinks were gonna be top notch. After looking at the Dinner and Brunch menus it was too hard to decide when to go so my wife and I just ended up going twice for back to back meals haha. Brunch: Filipino breakfast could be a bit on the heavier side, so if you're looking for some avocado toast and acai bowls this ain't the spot. But if you don't mind indulging in salty meats and heavy doses of carbs then you definitely won't regret it. I had to hold back from over ordering, so we'll have to come back to check out the other items. Longanisa Biscuits & Gravy - At first I was afraid the longanisa would be overshadowed and just taste like traditional country gravy, but I was gladly mistaken. The gravy had a nice color similar to a chorizo sausage gravy you might see at some other breakfast places. But the flavor was very unique and you could definitely taste the slight sweetness and spices from the longanisa. The biscuit underneath was a little on the dry side, but the star of the show was the gravy anyway, and they didn't skimp on the portion of it either. Breakfast Burger - There was no way this sandwich wasn't gonna be bomb. Smash burger patty AND a longanisa patty with a fried egg and hashbrown patty to top it off? It was even more delicious than I imagined, and I will hands down order this every single time. It's all the flavors you want from a hearty breakfast, in sandwich form. Ube Sweet Roll - Maybe it's just me but I never find ube pastries to ever have enough ube flavor. The visual appeal is there with its vibrant purple color, but it just didn't have the flavor to back it up. Tasted like a generic cinnamon roll. I'll stick to the savory dishes next time. Dinner: The dinner menu consisted more of shareable dishes so that you could try a little bit of everything. Since there was only two of us, we passed on the larger platters and stuck to main entrees. Bistek - Bistek is a medley of salty and tangy flavors on your tongue. The sauce is heavy soy sauce based but then it's also packed with a ton of lemon juice. The beef steak I grew up with used a lot of tougher cuts of meat, but the bistek at Maypole was fall-apart tender and felt like a much more elevated rendition of the dish. Toyomansi Fried Chicken Sandwich - The textures of the sandwich were spot on. Super tender and juicy thigh meat with a crispy exterior. Flavor wise don't expect the bold/spicy flavors of a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It had a very subtle soy sauce taste with a citrus twist. Overall, my wife and I had great experiences for both dinner and brunch and we will definitely be coming back to Maypole. I was happy to witness our neighboring tables get their first taste of Filipino cuisine, and hopefully this can continue to expand its popularity. This is the cutest restaurant in downtown Wheaton! I love the way it was decorated. We went here for brunch because we were excited to have a Filipino-American restaurant nearby! Definitely give them an "A " for creativity but the breakfast sandwich just had too many flavor competing against each other. The Longinisa with Bistek and then whatever mayo or seasoning added was just too many flavor profiles, they just didn't work. I felt bad because I saw the chef looking at me not eating it, but I was full from eating the Ube pancakes, but the taste of the sandwich just was not good because it was just a lot going on. The lumpia was your normal basic lumpia and was good and I don't think we really had anything else that was standout. We may comeback to try other items as we are excited to see a Filipino restaurant in the suburbs! I'd like to preface this by saying I'm Filipino and grew up eating traditional Filipino food, so I'm a bit biased. I knew this would be more of a contemporary culinary experience rather than a traditional one, so I was open-minded. That being said - I was pretty unimpressed with the food and drinks. For food, we ordered the lumpia, baby bok choy, bistek, fish collar sinigang, and lots of garlic rice. The lumpia was a hit, but I think it's pretty hard to mess up lumpia. The bok choy paired nicely with the hoisin sauce it was served with. The garlic rice was tasty. Where they started to lose me was with the bistek and fish collar sinigang. The flavors on the bistek and sinigang were... lacking. As in they tasted nothing like the bistek and sinigang I'm used to eating. If you would've blindfolded me and fed me these two dishes, I would've never guessed they were Filipino. There was just something so off about the flavors while I was eating. The sinigang was our least favorite, and so much so that we expressed this to our waitress. The fish was very bony, fatty and hard to eat and the flavors were boring. She was nice enough to remove this from our final bill (claiming "I don't want you guys to pay for something you didn't enjoy) which we greatly appreciated. For drink, I ordered the clarified ube lemongrass aviation. It was fine, but I didn't love it. I feel like they added ube in there as a gimmick, but I tasted no ube. It tasted more like lemongrass and lavender. For dessert, we ordered the ube cheesecake. This was my favorite part of the whole meal. It tasted like classic cheesecake (not too sweet) with a light ube flavor and a deep purple ube color. Would I come here again? Nah. I was happy to try it, but there is definitely better contemporary Filipino food out there. We tried Maypole's Filipino brunch menu and it was a fun experience! The venue is a bit small, but seating for two was not an issue. I could see it getting packed at peak times on weekends, so probably a good idea to make reservations for larger groups. The brunch menu consists of a variety of different choices from traditional American style to their own Filipino style, along with a nice cocktail list. We started with the Ube pancakes (purple sweet yam) that are covered with a coconut glaze and whipped cream. They were light and airy, and not excessively sweet which was a plus. My main dish was the longanisa breakfast plate, which is a sweet Filipino sausage that came with garlic fried rice, two eggs and the traditional veggies as a side. The longanisa was a bit peppery and did not have the sweetness as other restaurants I have tried, but overall was still a delicious meal. Wow! Loved the ambiance. Great tables for two and family tables for 10. Booths are cozy, tables are spaced out. The waitstaff was fabulous. Our ticket says Mike, but we thought it might be Michael. I failed to repeat his name, so shame on me. But great guy!! Loved the comfort of the Hawaiian shirt. He helped us understand how to enjoy Maypole. The food was phenomenal. We loved the pork belly. It was cooked perfectly. The fish collar was great. My daughter was craving lumpia and it was a hit. She wasn't crazy about the fish so she got the pork belly bag and said it was fantastic. They left a bottle of water at the table, so we were happy to pour our own if needed. We can't wait to go back for other items on the menu. Thanks for a great dinner!! read more

The food was good, but the portions are small, especially for the price. I had a waffle that was about 7 inches in diameter and not thick, and someone else in my party ordered French toast and it was just two slices of regular thickness bread.. For the price we should've left their stuffed, but I felt like I could have eaten another breakfast. read more

We tried the yogurt parfait, ham, rice, cinnamon roll and the sausage and gravy. Everything was fine but nothing was particularly great. The place is gorgeous inside and the service was prompt and friendly. I think we'll come back and see if this is more a dinner venue than a brunch spot. read more

Grandson suggested this place. He loves the play area. Fun and welcoming decor. Had the Pork Belly, daughter had the salad and grandson had the chicken. Ask for Adrienne, she was terrific. read more
