If the salt and garlic is toned down this would have been great Calamansi Lime pie- yummy! I love this! The slice is too small though. Looked like it came from a mini pie pan. Food and service are great. Decor is absolutely beautiful. Now, I'm inspired to put up some bold wallpaper in my own home. I would have given it 5 stars, but I wish the cocktails were bigger considering the price. Also, if an establishment expects a customer to pay 17 dollars for a burger, you would think they'd do it a solid by adding some fries to the order. First time stopping in this cute little restaurant! We were seated immediately on their small patio without reservations (on Mother's Day too!). The server was super sweet. Ordered the Filipino breakfast with Longaniza and my boyfriend ordered the maypole breakfast sandwich with bacon. This is a completely unique place in the heart of a Wheaton's revitalized downtown. Described as international comfort food the menu reflects the Filipino heritage of the chef in many of its dishes from the adobo Bao to the garlic, long beans, lumpia and bistek. There are also dishes spiked with kimchee and other Asian flavors. There are several entrées that are served for two people in a family style way. The chicken, pork, adobo and fish are all available into person servings. Everything on the menu is beautifully flavored and presented gracefully. The prices are very reasonable with very few entrées over $20. Perhaps one of the best features of this restaurant is the fantastic cocktail menu. The master cocktail maker is based at Common Good, Cocktail, House in Glen Ellyn. He and his team have developed a menu of cocktails that includes drinks with calamansi, bitter melon and jackfruit. He works with these flavors so brilliantly they make complete sense get they're utterly Original. The prices here - 12-18 - are likewise reasonable. They also have a very fun brunch that includes Filipino breakfast spam breakfast sandwich, and wonderful breakfast cocktails. The restaurant is very busy and hopefully will stay that way so reservations are recommended. If you are a party of two, you have a good shot of getting a table on the terrace. But if you're larger group be prepared to wait or just get a reservation ahead. read more

My family and I went for brunch yesterday and it was amazing! I love the decor, very bright, unique, and colorful, I could tell a lot of love and work went into it. I ordered the Filipino breakfast which was excellent, and my husband ordered the spicy chicken and waffles, which he loved (too spicy for me, but perfect for him). The cocktails are also excellent. I ordered the frozen espresso martini with coconut and I loved it. My husband ordered the spicy margarita and he said it was the best he's had (he orders a spicy margarita every time he sees one on a menu, so he's tried a LOT and said this one was the highest quality!). The service was also fantastic. I have to mention is the kid's area! There's a corner in the main dining room with two coloring tables and a play kitchen for kids to play while their parents dine peacefully. I've never seen this in a restaurant before, it's so brilliant! My 5 year old really struggles to sit in his chair at a restaurant, so this was perfect. I've been to every iteration of business that's been in this space from Blockbuster to the Bank to Emmett's, and this is by far my favorite! Definitely a bright and unique addition to downtown Wheaton. We will be back for sure :) read more

This is a tough review to write - the food has always been good, if not great. Can't and won't complain about that! That said: Maypole needs to figure out its identity. I've yet to sit in a comfortable chair nor good location. The patio competes with the bar area, the bar area competes with the main dining area--all in terms of aesthetic. The sign out front is literally a banner. Some of the waitstaff are dressed nice, and some in management seem slovenly (don't read the health report on items missed if you don't want this to bother you more). It's like they spent all their money making Subourbon a really intriguing space to then go and make the upstairs look a bit like a rickety shack with a disjointed personality. And here's the unfortunate part: when you don't feel good about those things, even if the food is great, you'll find places to go where you feel more comfortable, regardless of how they carry drinks to your table (from the bottom; it just looks like an awkward pose and I've seen many customers react oddly toward it). It genuinely concerns me that the place won't survive, which isn't what I want for it. I'm motivated to see them survive which is why this review is being written; I'd love to have a membership to Subourbon, however, don't want to make that commitment and investment while there's concern about the roof over the head. That's a lot to digest, and I'm certain I'm not the only person with this concern. Please don't let good ideas die on the vine by falling short on Maypole's identity. So in summary: Pretty solid food. Pretty cringe environment. Hoping for change, otherwise I'm afraid we've seen our last visit. read more

I got the Maypole breakfast sandwich and my wife got the Filipino breakfast. Holy crap it was some of the best brunch food I've had. The seasonal tequila cocktail was great and the mimosa is one of the best I've ever had. Will be coming back to this place frequently. Service was great and so was the ambiance. read more

New fil-am restaurant in Wheaton, was pretty excited to try. I had high hopes but it was just ok. Filipino dishes tasted different, most of the food I tried were too salty for my taste. The pancit was kinda wet and salty. Bistek was full of salt on top, the essence of the dish was missing. Calamari I thought was undercooked. The adobo was not the authentic adobo. Although the ube cheesecake was delicious. Drinks, I had the ale was I thought good but too small of a glass for the price. Old fashioned per my husband, could not taste the other flavors the drink claimed to have. Not sure if I will come back. It is on the pricey side too. Service was great! Area is awesome. read more

Attempted to order carry out via Toast. Order had a couple appetizers and a sandwich totaling $32. So, imagine my surprise when they put a $50 service charge on the order and also asked for a tip. I've been here a few times now with various groups; date night, out with friends, etc. I have yet to have anything from their menu that wasn't excellent. I first came here when they were doing a soft opening and the grilled corn was on the cob - they have since changed that to off the cob and either way, it is absolutely phenomenal. I've seen people here complain that it is pricey...going out these days is pricey, everywhere in our area. I love that I can get good food here, get a nice cocktail, and I enjoy the vibe they've created. They are still getting their legs on the service side of things, but that's every restaurant right now with labor shortages. No one ever answers the phone, the male host or manager kept us waiting way too long to get seated and then came back and asked her to wait longer to have a conversation with an employee. Simple training of any business with argue with that process. The menus don't have much of variety, if you're looking for anything on the healthy side such as broiled instead of fried this is not a place for you. I've eaten here several times for dinner and brunch with family and with friends. Delicious food that never disappoints and I love that the menu encourages sharing so I get to taste many unique things! I'm obsessed with the brussels sprout salad, the tofu sisig, calamari, garlic fries, chicken sandwich, and fish sandwich. The Maypole sampler is a great addition! My husband loves the spicy alligue noodles (but I'm allergic to shrimp). For brunch, I was surprised and have gone back to order the spam breakfast sandwich, I love the spiciness in the chicken and waffles, and recently tried the BLT sandwich sandwich-- yum! Unique Cocktails always intrigue me and make me smile! Round that out with a super colorful atmosphere unlike anything I've seen in the burbs...all makes this place a winner! read more

Great concept, poor execution. We went to the Saturday French Market and was looking for a brunch restaurant. The American/Filipino fusion sounded good so we went for it. The restaurant was super cute, nicely decorated, spacious and bright, it has a France Bistro Vide. The menu is simple, not too many items on it, which I don't mind, it means that they concentrate on the dishes they do the best; the price is typical high end brunch level, but it does fit the area and the ambience of the restaurant. We tried the Filipino Breakfast and the Crispy Tofu, we were very disappointed; there were quite a few review about the small portion, I wouldn't mind the portion if the food was tasty, but the food were mediocre at best, my crispy tofu was soaked with sauce so making it un-crispy, there was a fried egg on top of the tofu and I think the chef sprinkled salt on it unevenly so a part of it was too salty to eat. My husband's breakfast was a very simple breakfast except they had Filipino sausage on it, the sausage was dry and salty. These were very simple dishes and yet they made such rookie mistakes, I am actually surprised. They do have a bigger drink menu, maybe their drink is better than the food, but we don't drink so we can't command on that. read more

Came for the first time and am thoroughly impressed. I'm not sure what you would call the interior design, but it definitely isn't Filipino. Maybe a neo-French and Swedish fusion? This is a family style restaurant. The portions come in "small plate", "medium plate" and "large plate" options. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. We got the fried chicken, bistek, kimchi mac & cheese, kale salad and calamari. The fried chicken, mac and cheese and kale salad were all outstanding. We walked in here on a whim, on a Saturday morning, with no expectations. I am SO glad we stopped in!!! The brunch menu has an American menu and a Filipino menu. We went with the Filipino breakfast, the Longanisa biscuits and gravy, and arroz caldo. The biscuits and gravy were to die for! The biscuits were light, and the sauce was delightfully savory. The star of the Filipino breakfast was the longanisa sausage! Holy cow! It was sweet and spicy, and I'll never eat regular sausage again. The eggs and garlic rice were the perfect accompaniment. The arroz caldo, which is a rice porridge, was fantastic too! So much flavor! This brunch is only offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so plan accordingly. We also had a bloody Maria and a Bloody Mary, and both were excellent. They were light and spicy. The Bank is gone, Emmett's is gone, but we really hope this place stays! We can't wait to come back to sit at the bar and try the cocktails. read more

Yum!!! Wow! I took my brother & sister here who are both sorta picky eaters and they loved everything! We ordered the egg rolls, hush puppies, Maypole platter which has fried chicken, hot chicken, pork belly, fried cod and two different sauces, one of which I actually took all the way back to Texas with me, it was that good. We also ordered the steak & fries, oh my goodness, the steak was marinated in the most delicious sauce and the fries were great. GREAT ambience, this building used to be the bank and it's just so cool and they have outdoor patio seating that looks onto downtown Wheaton, feels so charming. LOVED this place! read more
