I have been a Mazzetti's customer for many many years and have utilized their business for many events as well as everyday treats. I have always received excellent service and goods until recently. I ordered and prepaid a large (11x14) derby cake 3 weeks in advance of my event. I called three days prior to the event to confirm and change pick up time. When my daughter picked up the cake it was not as ordered. She was informed they were out of the navy blue sprinkles that were supposed to be on all sides of the cake. She was given options and contacted me to choose another blue. They did not put them on all four sides of the cake as ordered and confirmed. Also, I chose a simple saying and the writing was not very attractive. I feel like the decorations were an afterthought even though they had plenty of notice to satisfactorily complete the order as placed. That being said, the cake tasted delicious. read more

I ordered a birthday cake for a Saturday pick up. When I went to pick it up, the outside of the cake was not what I ordered. I asked for a white buttercream cake with white and pink roses covering the top and what I got was a cake with three roses that was covered with a thick layer of strawberry jam. I told the manager and was given $10 off. When I got home and cut the cake it was not what I ordered at all. I ordered a white cake covered in white buttercream with white buttercream in the layers inside with strawberries. What I got was a yellow cake with jam on top and thick jam inside. The birthday girl was so disappointed and no one would even take cake home. I called the manager and she said either I ordered wrong or the person taking the order wrote it down wrong. She offered me nothing in return and only said I should order with more specifics next time. You can see the picture of my cake which was basically a mess of strawberry jam. FYI apparently if you order a white cake what you will get is a yellow cake. She told me yellow cake is their "white cake". Mazzetti's is a famous bakery in the town of Pacifica. They're known for their classic derby cake which is a light fluffy vanilla cake creation with slices of strawberry and bananas. A lot of people get it for special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas or basically any celebrations you have - they write on your cake for no extra charge! It also comes in chocolate or you can ask them to do half & half (chocolate and vanilla). As far as I remember they used to only accept cash then but thanks to the changing times and the convenience that comes with technology, you can now use debit or credit but must be more than $10 (I think for the credit purchase). Went in to grab a cake for thanksgiving and was able to get the last one (just my luck!). As I was in the process of paying, they created more for the display. It will be best if you check their website first to see their holiday schedule. It also helps if you call ahead to place your order in advance. I was just lucky that they were open Thanksgiving Day from 7am-12pm. They do sell out pretty quick so make sure you go early! read more

This review is for their customer service over the phone. I called to ask if I can follow up on a pickup order I had arranged for the next day just to make sure everything is all in order. And then the person who answered the phone rudely said "Well how am I suppose to know who the order is for if you don't give me a name, number, time, type of order...". Usually a professional establishment would reply with "Ok what is the name the order is under" or " Let me get someone to help you with that.." but instead she was very condescending. And then she comes back saying that the order is good to go without confirming any details with me and expects to just hang up the phone. I got the carrot cake, red velvet cake, Napoleon cake, cake donut, and a chocolate macaroon. Carrot cake was odd. The frosting was too sweet and something was flavored but off. Texture was a bit dry. The red velvet slice was also dry and the frosting wasn't good. It didn't taste like cream cheese frosting, but more like plain vanilla storebought frosting. It also tasted like there was some coffee in it? The Napoleon was not delicate and covered in chocolate frosting that also tasted storebought. It had some fruit in it and cherry flavor. Cherry liquor? It tasted like those dreaded chocolates with the cherry inside. Macaroon was fine. Cake donut was the star but the bar is low. My dad's neighbor gave him a Pumpkin Coffee Cake from Mazzetti's for doing her a favor. Well ... my dad doesn't really love pumpkin so he gave it to me knowing how much I enjoy pumpkin everything. Goodness ... not only did I devour this cake, but I have been back three more times for more!! Since I've been back three times now, I've gotten to try some of their other baked goods. The pumpkin cupcakes are just like the coffee cake, but in a single portion. :-) The focaccia bread is tasty and priced right. The bran muffins are out of this world .... trust me ... you will want to try one! Their signature cake is a 'derby cake' but I just didn't love it. One of my best friends is having a girl, again! Their 3rd one! She loves Mazzetti's Derby cake (who doesn't), so had to get it for her. There are 2 ways to enter a party correctly: with lumpia, or with a cake from Mazzetti's. We've gotten a derby cake to celebrate birthdays and special occasions for at least 10 years now! Never disappoints and always a staple at the party. Let me break this down real quick. Derby Cake: Top half white cake, bottom half chocolate cake, fresh strawberries and banana with cream in between the layers. Get fancy: Need writing? Free! How about some sprinkles? Free! Get fancier: Have a theme in mind? Let the staff know when you call in. They most likely have cool figures to decorate the cake, or you can opt in to bring your own cake decorations ahead of time. About $15 or so, depending on decoration. It's so worth it. I've always given the team minimum direction and the results were better than expected. Plan cravings according. Sadly, you can't get just a slice of the derby. You can get an 8inch all white cake or a chocolate cake with all the fixings (first come, first served), but for a true derby cake, you'll need to preorder. The smallest size feeds 8-10 people and will cost you around $30. I couldn't resist getting a little something for myself: the old fashioned donuts. $8 for a dozen. I didn't allow myself to second guess it. Delicious! Covid Corner: I got here on a Sunday morning at 8:30am, and there was a line already out the door. There was roughly 10 people waiting, but the line moved fast. No seating, just in and out, simple, and safe. We got a cake for my bday that was made the day of- it was a cute little cake and beautiful decorated, vanilla cake with a fudge layer and white icing: the flavor was sooooooooooo boring and tasteless, the icing was American buttercream, but flavorless. The fudge layer was good but very, very sweet. I feel like I could have gotten this at the grocery store. Perhaps I ordered wrong?? We'll probably try one more time before we write them off... but maybe next time we'll try the pie or other pastries. It certainly seemed popular!
