The deli-type eatery fools you when you see the exterior of this place. From what I was told and from the looks of the venue, it seemed more like a non-deli, sit-down restaurant. So, you order at the counter, you get your number and you attempt to find a clean table. We sat at a table that had a few used beverage glasses. One star fades. Within a good enough time, the food arrived. I ordered $5.85, 6" French Dip with a side of Mac 'n Cheese. The whole meal was quite bland. One star quickly disappears. Would I go to this place again...no. I probably wouldn't even if Goodfellow AFB purchased another machine from us. read more

McAlister's has a great variety of choices. I particularly love their giant baked potatoes. And you have to get the iced tea. It is some of the best tea in San Angelo, served in Texas sized glasses. You you do have to be ready. The place gets crowded at lunch and dinner time. That's because the locals know good places to eat. But the line goes quick. If you are looking for a bargain, get the special where you can get your choice of half a sandwich or potato with soup. They have new pizzas that are great as an appetizer. I have never had a bad experience here! Our orders come out right and they always make a great Arnold Palmer. They have a great menu selection and fast service even when busy. We walked in on New Years Eve around 6 PM for a Quick Bite to eat before we headed home to Midland. They were not busy at all... maybe two tables of people and one lady at the call ahead line. We stood there for over 5 minutes... no one greeted us, atleast 3 different staff walked by, someone That looked like maybe a manager looked over towards us a few times and nothing... but, the phone rang and one guy who had been up there around the registers was quick to answer after one ring but no one could come take our order. I dig McAlisters as an institution, but this location just sucks. I've been here three times and every time the food either comes out wrong, the staff is incompetent, or both. The last time I came there they forgot to put something on my sandwich (that was not a special request, it was just something that was supposed to be there anyways) and when I asked them to fix it, the girl just looked at me and said, "Well, if I go back there and get it can you just put in on yourself?" Well, yes I suppose, but G*$damnit thats your job not mine. Ugh. The tea is awesome though, which is thankfully standard for every McAlisters I've been to. read more

Love our local store on Sherwood! Food is always fresh and delicious. Service is typically very good and soup always hot and flavorful. Loaded pot roast potato and their Reuben sandwich and potato salad are great. The Reuben is about the only one in town that I can find that when the craving comes to me, this is where I am going! Phone orders could use some improvement if calling in direct to the store but they always make it right by you the next visit if you don't have time to bring back the food and if you don't check it before you leave. read more

McAlisters is normally pretty consistent on food expectations. No complaints on our food. However, This location is not as clean as it could be. It's a slower evening, not rush hour, and there are SEVERAL tables left to be cleaned and picked up. The floor needed sweeping and windowsills weren't very clean either. read more

Tonight must have been an off night. We ordered the Mega Club. Supposedly it included bacon and honey mustard. It did not have any bacon and only had a spot the size of a quarter of honey mustard. Stopped by today for a quick dinner. Let me start by saying our food was good and the guy at the register was nice. Now the bad... dirty dirty dirty dirty dirty...this place is dirty . I wanted to get a broom and mop to clean up. Everything was dirty: the tables, floors, restrooms, even the outside seating area. I guess if your going to do something, do it right. If you need a refill forget about it. They need new management or at least some training to show them how to use a mop and other cleaning supplies properly. read more

First time at any of these restaurants... Workers seem to talk more than actually work, especially some skinny worker in a blue shirt today. He had a long line and was telling another coworker a story. Then the woman employee (in red) that was being told the story kept her back facing the long line that kept getting longer. She wasn't doing anything but kept walking behind the counter. Another man (in black) finally stepped up and took our order. I thanked him for stepping up to take our order. He did a great job taking our order with accuracy and efficiency. Thank you to this guy! I spoke to him afterwards and he is a new employee. Hopefully other employees here learn from his example. read more

This location is almost always dirty everytime I go, it's usually hard to find a clean table to sit and the counter tops where you order are dirty with spilled tea residue but the employees are friendly and the food is good, just wish they kept it more clean. read more

While I do like the wide selection of sandwiches, it's the tea that has everyone talking. Their sweet tea is freaking awesome and should accompany any meal you get here. As far as sandwiches go I prefer the chicken McAlister's club which is a simple grilled chicken, ham, bacon, and honey mustard sandwich on wheat. I also recommend the French Dip and Big Nasty, which is an open faced sandwich with roast beef, green onions, and cheese served with gravy on top. All of the soups are really good too including the potato/cheese and broccoli/cheese. Also I forgot to mention the Arnold Palmer, a mix of lemonade and sweet tea, that you should try at least once. read more

They have gluten-free bread! I've been craving a sandwich and I'm traveling home. I found out that McAllister has gf bread through the "find me gf" app. The service is good as is the food, they offer to refill your drinks often. The tea is fantastic! The place looks clean and is for the most part. The floor is slick with grease, don't know if that's normal for this place. Overall a good experience. read more

The McAlister's on Sherwood way has the WORST service I have ever seen. There is zero sense of urgency. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and everytime I swear it will be my last. It's like they just hire all the chick fil a rejects. The workers look like they hate their job and are going as slow as they possibly can. Only reason to go is cuz the sweet tea is bangin. They could honestly clean up considering they are the only fill service sandwich shop in town if they knew anything about efficiency. I'm writing this review as I wait for my online order. Hubby brought home lunch yesterday. His tea was good, couldn't taste the San Angelo water through it. He had some beefy sandwich with gravy- the gravy was definitely from flavored powder. He also brought the grown up grilled cheese and a French dip. I could have had a better French dip from Arby's. It was plain, flavorless, and very dry, even for being takeout. The grilled cheese was vile. It was greasy bread with a melted layer of of looking cheese and 2 thin slices of a tomato that wasn't ripe. It was disgusting. I'm appalled he paid what he did for lunch. We will not be going back, ever. Just gross. read more

I love McAlister's! I usually get a soup/sandwich combo... The country potato soup is my favorite! The salads are also pretty good. It's usually super crowded though (which is usually another sign that the food is good) - perhaps this means a second location should open up. Anyhow, the mac and cheese is super yummy. Love love love McAlesters! I'm from Ohio and I'm very fond of panera bread which they do not have here in san angelo. This place has somewhat of the same vibe going on with the fresh salads soups and sandwiches! Everything I have gotten (especially the chicken club sandwich with honey mustard) is absolutely delicious! The only negative I have to offer up is the line is always outrageous! ...especially around lunch time. Even when I have called ahead to order I've ended up waiting 20+ minutes to get my food and get out the door. If you've got some time to kill and your hungry though, this is the place to go :) read more

Horrible experience, avoid this place if you have celiac disease or any other food allergy. I ordered a sandwich with "gluten free" bread, but the cashier was very unprofessional and laughing as I was ordering and did not take my order seriously. After eating 1/4 of my sandwich I felt weird about it and ended up finding out that it was made on whole wheat bread because my order was inputted incorrectly. I really love the food at the McAlister's in San Angelo. The service is quick and the food is cook to your likes and dislikes. I like my soup hotter than probably most people do, so I always tell the person who is taking my order to make sure the soup is hot (with fire) and it happens. The person I would like to really give a big Five star rating to is the general manager, Tammie. She circulates amoung the customers making everyone fell welcome and making sure their food is how they wanted it. She calls customers by their first names and tries to learn more new names every day every meal. She is super!!!! I would give the restaurant a five star rating, but in my opinion it is hard to get a five star rating. When Tammie is there, everything goes just like it should. Occassionally when I see that there are alot of tables that have not been bussed, I look around to see if Tammie is there and sure enough it is one of her days off. I have brought this to her attention and I can definitely tell things are better. She works well with her staff. I hope we keep her as the general manager.
