Only two guys came but one of them worked so hard all morning to get our delivery done in a timely manner, very professional company and friendly which made things easier for both parties. I would give them a 10 if possible! We originally planned on a 1 day move but just before the move day found out our closing was delayed so we needed to keep our household goods in temporary storage. Truda juggled the schedule and was able to set this up for us on short notice. We ended up needing a few more days of storage and they accommodated our schedule. Even though we were in a tough spot, they gave us very reasonable storage prices and we barely went over the initial budget, even with the extra storage time. Manny and his crew were very professional and did an excellent job packing, loading and unloading our stuff with no damage. They were so good we doubled our initial tip. Just had to do a quick move in town and the let me tell you from beginning to end the staff was amazing. Super courteous and knowledgeable with the initial coordination and on the day of the move Dustin & Craig really did an outstanding job. These guys were friendly with a customer satisfaction work ethic. Quick to load & offload with zero damage to my belongings. As well creative in moving the big parts upstairs. I've done a few moves in my life time and never experienced movers such as these from McCarthy Transfer. I would give a negative rating. However, that is not an option. We did not have a choice with this company since we are Navy. They lied to us and provided an awful service! BEWARE!! 1.) A representative came out before packing our things and told us that we would have "FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE" for items that were broken during the move. That was an absolute lie. They damaged $3,000 worth of our items. We were reimbursed $600. Not cool. Part of the damage was our Stand Up Paddle Boards. We bought 2 for $1,600. They are both damaged and cannot be used without being repaired. We have searched for over a year and still cannot find a company to repair the boards since we moved to WA. We have searched but the supply is not here. That is $1,600 down the drain because of McCarthy. 2.) We had a condo and a storage unit that needed to be packed up and moved from San Diego to Washington state. McCarthy wanted to be efficient (which I understand) and do both at the same time so my husband and i were segregated for overseeing the work. The ladies at the condo packed the items well. Nothing broke. However, the men at the storage facility used our blankets to wrap oil pans. Beyond disrespectful. Baby blankets over 35 years old were destroyed. A crystal punch bowl that was passed down from family was broken because it wasn't even wrapped. The men then came to the condo and broke a light bulb. They swept it behind boxes for me to find later to clean up. Very upsetting to find glass in a corner since we have a baby. The men at the storage unit were beyond unprofessional. I am very disappointed with the employees that McCarthy chooses to employ. We are out thousands of dollars due to McCarthy's unprofessionalism and lies about reimbursement. read more

Outstanding ! After 19 years in the military this has by far been the best move!! From the start the company communicated well, were very accommodating with our timeline and did an outstanding job packing and loading our whole families life ! We have never had a pack out in only 1 day !! Dave & Jose were very efficient , friendly and so well organized. For 2 guys to get our house packed up so amazingly was astounding . Shift to today for pick up day... Thomas showed up with his crew (Dominic, Marissa & Grizz) and wow ! They were professional, hard working , polite and overall went above and beyond to make sure our belongings were handled with care. I don't anticipate anything will be any different when they deliver our goods next week ! Highly highly recommended McCarthy for your next move . In our move out of San Diego, we were in contact with several companies. Most of these companies spammed us with email. McCarthy Transfer was one of the few companies that did not send us a "low-ball" quote. Thomas came out to visually inspect what we were moving and gave us a fair quote. He also explained in person that the price may change due to what we opted to have them do (as in pack our kitchen vs. just loading boxes) and due to what the actual weight of our haul is. He also stayed in communication with us to let us know when the truck left San Diego and when it was due to arrive in our city in Northern California. Being that it has been a family-owned company, we feel it is a matter of pride to keep their reputation strong. It is definitely worth calling them for a quote when shopping around. read more

From beginning to end, from Tom at the top to main coordinator Manny and his crew, everything went like clockwork. Everybody was on time and worked long hours to a) pack everything within the allotted time, b) put it all in a big truck and drive it up all the way from San Diego to San Francisco, and c) unload everything (and there was a lot) within the one-day deadline. At this website, the first picture shown is of Brian and Martin. Fortunately they were assigned to move us from San Diego to Phoenix. They were accommodating, fun to work with, and could not have done a better job. Martin's character and punctuality, honed in the military, were qualities needed and appreciated to supervise this move. We're sure other McCarthy crews are just as professional based on our experience interacting with many company employees for six months. Read about the company on their excellent website and then call Truda. She will patiently answer all your questions and manage the entire move. Tom McCarthy is also personally involved with every interstate move. Since we had a difficult and constantly changing home closing date, he offered to drive the van to Phoenix himself if Martin and Brian weren't available on a certain date. The closing did change again and it wasn't necessary, but it speaks to the professionalism and integrity of the company. To further accommodate us, they stored 15,000 pounds on their premises for a couple of days. Incredible! Everyone in the warehouse was helpful also in supplying us with all the unusual size boxes and tape we needed at no charge. We packed everything else in apple boxes supplied by grocery stores. A retired friend, who spent a career in the moving business, said McCarthy's reputation is outstanding-certainly get a quote from them. Their performance definitely proved that to be true. So this was a HORRIBLE experience for me. The packers came in like they were all nice and friendly but they ended up stealing $400 from my 2 year old. Not to mention other things have been missing. We're career Military and this was our final move as we're retiring. The move was from Chula Vista, CA to Orange Park, Florida. The initial pack out was GREAT! The packers arrived on time and exercised due diligence in boxing up our belongings. There were the heavier items that would be addressed by the loaders the next day. That's when the issues started. The lead loader, (can't recall his name.) Made a stink about our front load washing machine. Said he wasn't allowed to disconnect it. (Not a big deal; so I disconnected it.) Then he stated he couldn't ship it unless we found the drum locks. Again, no big deal as we still had them. They had difficulties loading my Harley. And although I didn't know at the time, they didn't keep track of items dissembled that would be needed for reassembly. The last box was finally packed with the essential small items that were needed upon delivery which was placed in the cab. The driver stated he had another pick-up in Texas en-route. They stated the delivery could be as late as three weeks. Fast forward; we're staying in the Navy Lodge in Mayport, FL which is about 45 miles from our house. Since we'd not heard anything regarding delivery, we followed up on it on a Friday. We were told that they, (the moving company) had until the end of the month to deliver; no date was given. Then the following Monday, mid-morning we're called by the local agent asking if we're available to take delivery!? We were not near the house and we then asked why didn't the driver call us on Sunday alerting us of his arrival? Then the local agent made a command decision that they'd deliver 10 days later, (since we weren't ready.) And our entire load would be placed into storage. That's when I put my foot down telling them that I wasn't about to pay an additional 10 days of lodging because they were either too lazy or DUMB to make a phone call? After much drama, the local agent committed to a delivery on Tuesday, the next day. We were waiting and the truck arrived about an hour late. Two of the original loaders, including the lead loader and the original driver. They started unloading and bringing items into the house. The entire time several complained about the heat which got old real fast. It's FLORIDA! They got things into the house well late into the afternoon and began reassembly of the larger items. Then they lied telling us they had another delivery the same day and it was well after 5:00 pm? It was clear they just wanted to leave. I tipped each of them $25.00 and thanked them for their work. We still had a house full of unopened and unpacked boxes they were obligated to unpack. I attempted to move my Wife's desk that had been assembled in the office. As I lifted the edge of it, the desk fell apart in my hands? I looked underneath and the locking devices were missing. They stacked the pieces to give the appearance of a proper assembly. That's when I started checking other items they assembled. I discovered the following after they left: When we started the washing machine to wash a load, it nearly destroyed itself. They placed the washing but neglected to tell us the shipping locks weren't removed and the plugs that went in the machine had vanished. (This is the same washing machine the lead loader got all pissy about.) They didn't reassemble any of the tables correctly and the legs on every table were later properly installed by myself. The same applied to the piano stool. They didn't reinstall the mirrors on several dressers. The box that was loaded last with the essentials we needed wasn't with the load. The hospital bed for my physically disabled mother wasn't reassembled correctly and was 100% non functional. Also we ended up with several items that were not ours from another shipment. Due to their laziness, my garage is packed full of industrial sized trash bags that I must dispose of; and, we're still only halfway through with the unpacking. Maybe I just got a bad crew but they gladly accepted the tip fully knowing they didn't deserve it. We've had many military moves over 30 years. This was without a doubt the WORST we've experienced. I would never recommend this company as they made a complicated move even more stressful by not doing their job. They did the bare assed minimum and could care less about our inconvenience. (FOOTNOTE: The moving agents in Jacksonville that coordinated the delivery were equally bad. I'll review them on a separate posting.) read more

I would not recommend them EVER!!! They were sloppy, rude and greedy. The entire experience was painful. I contacted McCarthy Transfer & Storage for a local move. They came out, gave me an estimate. All seemed so good. When they arrived they gave me a different amount than was quoted. They added hours of overtime because the size of the move was larger than the estimate - I thought that was the reason for the estimate. They did not include moving the items in the garage - not sure why? It made the movers rush the job. They broke or damaged several pieces of expensive furniture. Some beyond repair. They didn't even put the boxes/furniture in the right rooms. There were other problems with the move, but too much to list here. I spoke to the owner he was unapologetic basically blaming me for having a large move. I filed a claim for the damage and they offered me a couple of hundred dollars to cover the cost of a thousand dollars worth of damage. I would never recommend them, I have moved several times and never had a move be done so poorly. read more

I had a piano and 3 flights of stairs and they guys that moved me had a great attitude through all of it. If you are planning a local move, search no further. This company was recommended by a friend of mine when we were planning to move to a new house the end of February. Everyone at McCarthy Transfer was very friendly and helpful. If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars I would. This family owned company goes above and beyond in the customer service department. They used to do a lot of Military moving and are now focusing on local moves. I had a good feeling about them from the start and didn't feel the need to even get a comparison quote. The movers showed up right on time, took extra care with our belongings and never even stopped to take a break except for lunch. I was quoted this would be an 8 hour job, but they did the job in just over 6 hours and saved me some $$$$. Not many companies do that. They even let me stop by their warehouse to pick up free recycled moving boxes along with some packing tape and wrapping paper. Truda in the office answered all of our initial questions and scheduled the move. Thomas came out to our house to give us our estimate which was very reasonable. Manny and his crew worked like a fine tuned machine. They disassembled and re-assembled the beds, placed all the furniture where we wanted it, even made sure we were happy with the placement and helped make a few changes. The movers were polite and courteous and attentive to our requests. They were organized and efficient. When we got our moving quote, Manny was great and reassuring. I specifically asked Manny that I had requests of special care for specific items. One of my requests was to ask if it would be ok to leave items in drawers in the chests, nightstands, cabinets and tables. I was specific as to whether there would be spillage, making things a mess. Manny reassured us the items would be wrapped preventing spillage. When arriving at our new home everything in drawers was a complete and utter mess!! The Lead Mover said that was unpreventable. I explained to the lead Mover that Manny had reassured me that there would be no problems. I asked why? He explained it was for convenience! WHAT?? The movers could not load all of our furniture in a 26' truck and they refused to return for the items left at our old residence! Not enough time! I had to find help to move the remaining items which was at a great inconvenience for us. McCarthy Transfer and Storage did not complete the contract that we were paying for! The price was right, but "you get what you pay for!" Our suggestion would to get in writing your specific requests before hiring McCarthy Transfer and Storage. I recently moved from San Diego to Seattle for work. I've always just moved my own stuff (with help from family and friends of course) but with this move being long distance, I decided to go with movers. I packed all of my own stuff to save on cost, and after calling a few companies, I decided to go with McCarthy. They had competitive pricing, and actually sent someone to my house to complete the estimate- which was a binding offer, so no surprises with the final bill. Truda was great to work with from the first time I called to inquire to the last day when she called to confirm my move in date. She was friendly, knowledgable, and genuinely cares about her clients. When I stopped by their El Cajon facility to sign the initial paperwork, Truda showed me where my stuff would be stored (30 days free) and then proceeded to help me load my car with boxes, packing tape, and packing paper (also free!). Because I don't have a big car, she made a note to send some large wardrobe boxes when the movers came with the truck. The guys that moved me out (sorry- forgot their names!) were great. They called when they were running late (traffic) and were very efficient with documenting and loading of my stuff. When I found a place to live in Seattle, Truda gave me a window of just over a week as to when the truck would arrive with my stuff. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call from Martin saying he was on his way and would be arriving on the earliest possible day- I was able to have everything delivered the same day I received my apartment keys! I even had to push this date back one day when I had a delay getting my keys- but it was still not a problem. Martin and Brian (I think...) were very friendly and efficient at unloading everything. They put boxes and furniture in their places and put my bed, kitchen table, bike and desk back together. They paid attention to details, even making sure my table was centered under the dining room light! After unpacking, I'm happy to report everything arrived as I packed it- no damages to anything. So glad I found McCarthy, they made my move easy and worry free! read more

We had an awesome experience with Mccarthy Transfer & Storage. As an active duty military family, we have utilized professional movers many times, and this was one of the best experiences. Martin was the absolute PERFECT driver for the job. He has excellent communication skills and went above and beyond the typical mover experience. He called the day before to ensure a smooth pick up, and when he heard we were in a time crunch, he volunteered to start early at 6:30 am. Wow. We were so impressed and grateful. On moving day we were again impressed with their punctuality, professionalism, great attitudes, and hard work ethic. They were very careful with our furniture and took great care of our things. They were very friendly and more than helpful. They went above and beyond in all things and even took the time to honk the horn of the truck for all of the neighborhood kids who had gathered to see them off.
