This is no ordinary McDonalds. It is a building that was created by taking many old rail cars and attaching them together! McDonalds was made out of passenger cars,the gift shops are old reefers, and the restrooms are Santa Fe cabooses! The most noticeable part of this landmark is the interlocking tower. If you have kids with you this is a perfect place to stop on your way to/from Las Vegas. The McDonalds shares the building with a 3-4 other stores which includes a few gift shops with anything you'd need to keep everyone active, license late bingo for example! I have many fond memories of this place as a kid. If I have kids I will make it a point to bring them here. This is also a good place to grab free magazines and brochures about all the current shows or buffets in Vegas. The parking lot is big and there is even BUS/Truck parking around the back. Although there is a gas station attached I suggest heading to the opposite side of the highway for the best deals. At one time this was the most busy McDonalds in the world! Trying to weigh in on the culinary significance of a McDonald's can be a minefield. It is so ubiquitous around the world (and consistent) between establishments that there really is no point. What I will review is the location and service. The McDonald's is tucked away into the building next to souvenir stalls and other fast food counters. The line moves fairly fast and the service is friendly enough for the stress the staff has to go through. There are tons of tourists here. This is a greyhound stop here and many buses from Los Angeles make this their rest stop for the trip. There are no seats that I can see. Maybe around some corner in the crowded building interior. but I certainly don't see any posterior support. read more

McDonald's (4 stars) What could possibly be special about McDonald's that it merits a Yelp review? Um, they have Shamrock milkshakes my friend! I visited several locations in New York City, I even checked in Virginia, and Las Vegas. Consistently, again and again, I was told they simply do not have them. I inquired when they last had them, but I often got blank stares on that question, though one person offered that they used to have them maybe as recently as the year before; another place had them but ran out of ice cream. In my opinion, it is the only thing worth ordering at a McDonald's, and it is so hard to come by. I understand the attraction exclusivity brings, but this is ridiculous if I have to traipse around the country to find it. At any rate, my large milkshake was especially large and very good. I couldn't exactly remember how it was in my youth, but I was slightly surprised that it was peppermint flavored rather than mint flavored. A great reminiscence all around. This particular location is also unique for a few reasons. Being in Barstow, it breaks up the monotony of a drive between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and therefore sees its share of road travelers. :o? A McDonalds.... *Barf...* but a McDonalds with rail cars!!!! *Sign me up!* I mean, how often do you see a McDonalds where the dining area is comprised of rail cars. Unfortunately, at the end of the day it's still a McDonalds. Don't be fooled with the Ronald McDonald statue smiling on the bench, the quality of the "food" and the menu is still the same. :( Fortunately, there are other dining options such as Panda Express, Mexican food, candy stand, and a stand of what I would consider miscellaneous. (Corn dogs, funnel cake, ice cream, etc.) I said other dining options, I didn't specify whether the meals you would be getting there would be any better than the one you would receive at McDonalds..! ;o] I thought it was fun to check out the gift shops and the random souvenirs you could pick up from this place. They had everything from cheap purses, ceramic statues/ dishes, Beanie Babies, Hello Kitty toys, to Vegas paraphernalia. I considered it a ghetto swap meet, but was tickled by the massive amount of items that we could purchase from of all places, a McDonalds with some rail cars. So from a food stand point it's pretty much less than average or borderline lousy. (It's a McDonalds for crying out loud) But for entertainment purposes, I have to give this place at least one star! This is by far the worst McDonald's I've been to! The cashier was so rude and did not have patience at all. They really need to work on their customer service skills. The food was cold, and my order was given to me sloppy and incorrect. They threw lettuce in my bag and my mcflurry was half way empty, oh and the lid was not even put on right causing a spill. Not only is it an excuse to eat Mcdonald's Apple Pies and Fries, but its a great way to tell you haven't gotten lost. This place is the pit stop for all TYPES of characters. You know, its like when people go to the DMV and compare it to a huge casting call for some Carnie/Carny film?! Its kind of like that. Not only do you get to experience Mcdonalds in a train cabin, you get to walk next door to the other mini shops selling candies, and fun souvenirs. Don't be mad at this place. Its not that serious. McDonald's. America's identity. Also, train. Restroom break. Why is it called a restroom? I'm resting, that's a given. But I'm not there to rest. I use restroom more than I use bathroom. Bathroom? I'm not bathing in there. I guess shitroom won't fly. What about dueceroom? What about Star Trek? Did they have restrooms on board? Wonder what they looked like. They had the first interracial kiss yet I don't think I saw a restroom, just a washroom. I think Leave it To Beaver had the first toilet shown on tv. Anytime anyone mentions toilets in the future it's the three seashells. Always. And there was never an explanation on how to use them which shows we're still in our infancy in toilet technology. I'd pay a buck for using a toto super toilet in Barstow if there was one. I don't normally stop at Mcdonalds but when I do I go to Barstow's Mcdonalds. Starbucks is right across from it and nearby is Panda Express. And unless you have a large bladder you're gonna stop somewhere on the i15 heading to or from Vegas. Why not make it Barstows? Who hasn't at one time or another stopped by this McDonald's on their way to/from Vegas? They're connected to a candy and souvenir shop that I would look forward to visiting as a kid. The whole train theme of this McDonald's made it one of the coolest ever. If you have kids, it is a wonderful place to bring them. Service-wise it can get pretty packed as it is right near the highway and everyone is thinking the same thing you are - peepee break! Come on, isn't that why most of us love stopping by the McDonald's in a town like Barstow? Busy enough so we can stop in to relieve ourselves and not have the staff notice we are not buying anything. But I also had a bit of a surreal moment stopping by here. When I went to check in my phone's Yelp app, it told me that one of my Yelp friends had checked in here over a month ago. I was the only car in the drive thru and while I was ordering the little girl on the speaker was rushing me and has no type of manners, she said "WHAT" while I was ordering. When I got to the window she slammed it after I left. I also had the same girl give me my food a different time, she handed me my food, didn't say a word and shut the window and left. It's completely unacceptable and I don't know who does hiring over there or still keeps people like her. I wish the new owners would take pride in their store and hire people who are at least decent in customer service. This place does massive business, and as I noted in my Barstow Station review, this place is a genius idea, catering to tour groups mostly. The servers are actually friendly here and fast. My brother and I noticed that there wasn't anyone in line in McDonald's so we decided to order two ice cream cones. Simple enough, right? We waiting for 5 minutes and still didn't get our cones. By that time, there was a bunch of people who rushed the McDonald's. After 10 minutes, we noticed that everyone that placed orders after us have been receiving their orders before we got ours. We asked this lady about our cones and she looked at us and straight up ignored us. Seriously? We asked her again and she finally said that it was on its way. After 15 minutes, we finally got em'. After waiting all that time, we figured the ice cream was probably magically shipped from the north pole for extra deliciousness. Nope, it sucked. Once you wait in the several-person long line and place your order, you'll be picking up your food at one central location. You're stuck waiting for your number to be called in a Starbucks-like semi-circle with other travelers. That sucks. You walk over to fill up your drinks at one of the two soda fountains, and find that they haven't been cleaned in hours. That sucks, too. You think that the idea of eating your food in one of their long corridors that are supposed to be like train cars is a great idea, up until the point you realize that there isn't any ventilation and you're essentially smelling 100% musty goodness. I hadn't been at this McDonalds in almost twenty years. The intervening years haven't been very kind to this place. Granted there are more food choices in the overall area, the eating areas in the historic rail cars, and the convenience of the souvenir shops. But you have to consider the crowds of tourists and the somewhat dingy parking area complete with bums. The souvenir shops are also somewhat of double-edged sword because you have to Service was efficient and fast, but what I really didn't like was that the coffee didn't come freshly brewed a la McCafé or even poured out of glass pots. Instead, coffee was surprisingly self-service out of these commercial water boilers. The quality of said coffee was predictably low... and this even factors in the fact that I liked McDonalds coffee even before McCafé. All in all, I would recommend going to the McDonalds in nearby Lenwood instead. read more

Never had a problem with McDonald's before. But the workers here are awful. Double check your orders before you leave. They forgot half of our meal. I had to go up to the counter 3 times to grab missing items and they even gave me a hard time about the sauces. On my receipt had 3 sauces. They gave me one and when I asked for more they told me I had to pay for it. If I had to pay why didn't you charge me when I ordered it! read more

This is just one of those staples you have to check out either going or leaving Vegas. Ever since I was a little kid i always did a stop over here. How this place has grown. The McDonalds is so much bigger from back in the day and now there's a panda express too. The souvenir area has expanded sooooo much as well with a lot more vendors. The bathrooms are bigger and actually not too dirty. Just a good place to get your munchie fix. Always loved this place since I was a kid coming here with my family :). Some McDonald's workers don't know the difference between onion and lettuce. I ordered a double cheeseburger with lettuce. When I got my burger, there was no lettuce so I went back to the pick-up station and asked if they could put lettuce in it. The blond teenager behind the counter looked at my burger and pointed to the onions in my burger "you have lettuce already" I told her that onion wasn't lettuce but she insisted it was.
