I hit up McIntyre's for the second time on a Friday for happy hour. They're located in a residential part of The Heights. You can either pay $6 for valet on a paved lot or self-park for free on a gravel lot. Y'all know what I chose. McIntyre's fits the mold for a lot of bars these days: open-air with a large patio. Here's what I like. They have some games indoors like that mini basketball game with the moving hoop. They also have a nice selection of crack cocktails. The It's Always Sunny in Houston (shoutout to all my It's Always Sunny in Philly fans) and the Pimm's Cup are my favs. They have swings. Ladies love swings. Ladies love taking selfies on the swings. Last but not least, they have rotating food trucks that park in their lot. This last time, Happy Endings was there. Not the greatest name for a food truck but the food does provide a happy ending. The downsides? Picnic-style seating for the most part on the patio which I'm never a fan of. I like seating with back support. And while they do have fans on the patio, it can get a little stuffy. read more

Super fun little bar! Really awesome outside seating, and nice little "cabana" looking seating areas that were really warm. Heaters all over, and dogs all over too (very exciting). The line for drinks wasn't too bad, about 5-7 min wait! Lots of televisions everywhere as well! Semi pricey, but I was expecting it to be. Great drink menu as well! I'm stunned Aggies don't act like they treated me and my 100 lb GSD. They turned mason, my well behaved psych service dog. Sea at door! This is supposedly the place to watch Aggie football so being dog friendly I brought mason. After 4( min in line they refused us admittance and said it was because I was drunk. This was a pretty fun bar, located in the Heights area, and it's tucked away. There is ample parking and the place is pretty large, with tons of outdoors seating and swings too. Overall, it had a really good vibe. They don't serve food, but always have food trucks and on Tuesday's, you can take advantage of Steak Night. You get a choice of either filet or ribeye! You get a delicious steak, with sides, for $18. For the win! The drinks are pretty good too. Lots of options and fun cocktails to choose from. read more

I feel like this bar is definitely for the younger crowd (say mid-20s). It's loud and crowded and seating is limited, especially if the weather is bad then they will have a lot of the outdoor seating covered and you can't utilize it. It's difficult to hold a conversation with the person next to you. The dogs roaming around and also at the tables inside isn't my vibe. The dogs should be kept on the outdoor patio areas IMO. The parking is awful in this area (as we all know). Overall, there was nothing about this bar that would personally keep me coming back. read more

I love this place. People getting drunk and swinging around having a good time.. I can't think of anything better. Only thing that is missing is an adult playground and I can see that coming to Houston pretty soon.. besides Electric Feel Good. Kayla was great and she provided great service. Met up with some friends/co-workers for an anniversary reunion at McIntyres. I was only there for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed. They do have a bouncer at the entrance checking id's, parking is tight but there is plenty. They had a food truck and a crawfish boil going. I didn't eat, so I can't really comment on that. The overall atmosphere was fun, people were there to have a good time, drink, and watch the games on tv. There are plenty of televisions, tables and seating. The waitress service was slow, probably because the place was packed. The bar was a little slow but not too bad. I ordered two tall beers at the bar, waiting less than five minutes from the time I walked up there to the time I paid and walked off with my beer. Overall it was a chill, fun place, that I enjoyed. I have a few questions for you. Do you like day drinking? What about night drinking? Well, how about just drinking in general? You do, do you? Now do you like doing this activity in a super awesome patio bar where they have swings? What about at the bar where the bartenders are super quick to get to you even though the place is more packed than hell? Well then, welcome to McIntyre's! Me and friends stopped by this place even though it was a bit out of the way from where our first stop was (Axelrad) but she wanted to check out the swings in person so we ubered our way here. This was a Saturday afternoon, just a little bit before five and this place WAS SUPER DUPER packed! We weren't expecting that, but hey they had an event for the KY Derby. There were plenty of ladies dressing up like they were actually at the derby; yes, that includes the derby hats as well! They were offering $5 mint julep specials (I didn't order one, but two of my friends said it was horrible!) They were also handing out cards with the competing horses' numbers on them. If your numbered card happen to be the winning horse's number, then you get a drink on the house (we didn't win, boo) - pretty cool. Even though this place had plenty of patio spaces but due to the crowd, we weren't able to find a place to sit outside so we sat inside close to the mini basketball game. There are lots of TVs inside so if you want to catch a Rockets/Astros/Texans/Dynamo game, feel free to come here and I'm sure you can watch the game on one of the TVs they have. As for service, we weren't sure if we were supposed to order at the bar or if we'd have someone waiting on us. We waited a little bit (maybe around 10-15 minutes) and after being ignored by the MANY waitresses in the house who walked through our table without once checking in on us, I decided to just go to the bar and ordered there. Although the bar was super packed (think Okra Charity Bar packed) but it didn't take one of the bartenders to notice me and took my drink order (Okra, I'm looking at you. You have a lot to learn from this bar!). When I came back to my seat, of course my friends told me that as soon as I disappeared, one of the waitresses asked if she could take their orders This made me go -_-. Like, wait until the ONE non-white person in the group leave before you decide to come check in on us, why don't you?! Just kidding. I'm sure it had nothing to do with that but it sure felt that way. Like I said, we had plenty of waitresses walked by us when we waited and NONE approached us, but one did as soon as I was gone. But whatevs. We stayed a little bit until after the Derby was done, and then I went to close my tab. Just like before, although the bar was super packed at the time, it didn't take long for them to take notice and helped me out. I personally enjoyed my time here. Unfortunately, we didn't get to check out the swings because they didn't have that many swings, and the crowd was all over it. McIntyre's is definitely a great addition to the Heights bar scene! read more

They don't support The United States of America's and play the National anthem when the colors are being presented during the World Series. They rather play some "club" music instead since the game isn't on. I'll take my business elsewhere. All that bothered me, and others around me, was the National Anthem wasn't played over the speakers for your customers to be serenaded by it. What is magic about 23? We will never be back. We will write them a negative review on every platform. Why would they not post this on their website? Great experience. A friend got sick after being in the bar 15 minutes. Completely sober at 10:15 pm on a Saturday. While waiting for our ride she threw up next to the door inside the entryway and passed out twice while sitting on a bench. A normal human would have asked if she was okay or offered water. The security guard repeatedly and aggressively asked when our uber was arriving. We asked for the manager in front of a man who did not identify himself. The security guard sneered, pointed off and told us the man he was just talking to was the owner - we asked for the manager, not the owner - therefore he did not talk to us. Another employee approached us, did not identify himself and asked what the problem was. My sick friend told him we were waiting for our ride and cussed in the explanation and complaint of the security guard's behavior . The employee responded by saying he was getting the cops. Two officers came and said if we felt the guard was aggressive and we felt unsafe we needed to leave the property. We moved to the steps next to the street where my friend momentary passed out again after the walk. The officers stood between us and the doorway offering no support. The entire ordeal took under 5 minutes. I am very disappointed in the lack of compassion from every staff member that we encountered. Our friend was not drunk. She was sick in their establishment and was treated horribly. Had management asked if she was okay, and even offered a chair to sit in outside of the building it would be have been appreciated. Had management approached us AT ALL it would have been appreciated. Had ANY staff member asked if she was okay it would have been appreciated. This was a horrible experience that could have easily been handled more professionally. read more

Like a Sirens Call, I could not deny the Spring Houston Patio weather on a Friday. Got the call that some friends were hitting up this place after work to start off the weekend and off I went. I had been coming to this area of The Heights for years, but never knew this place existed (still so much to discover). The vibe was cool, almost like a Sunday Funday crowd. Service was good and so were the drinks. They have valet and self parking, just beware that the self parking has some pretty tight turns going from isle to isle. They have a great patio set up that is perfect for Spring and Fall in Houston. And there is even a food truck (although I couldn't tell you what it was). Nice casual place on the West in of the Heights, i.e. Shady Acres. Just past Hubcap Grill and Big Star bar is this very well done decorated sports bar. Many TV's for watching whatever game your heart desires. Good list of beer, mixed drinks and decent wine list. Great patio with a swing set (not for real swinging obvi!) but fun to sit and gab with the local people. Downside is no food, just one food truck. Not horrible, but if I am not in the mood for what the truck is serving, I have to leave to go and get my food on else where. Parking is limited, but they do have bike parking so I will be biking over there in the future. Dogs are allowed but not a place to bring your dog if they are looking to play. Now I like steak and for a $25 steak it was incredible....I expected that to be my highlight and go home with the usual Houston bar service, but the bar service here really was exceptional. Welp. This place is interesting. I don't know why I hang out here so often, considering I live in a different hood, but my friends seem to corral at McIntyre's. And each time I've popped in they've gotten busier and busier. Which means word is spreading. It's neighborhood sports + patio bar with endless TVs, a large deck, plenty of parking both on their property and along the street, swings, food trucks and the friendliest servers that put up with the rowdy dudes at our table. (Thanks, ladies.) I've yet to try anything other than their beer, rose or tequila, but apparently their cocktails are something worth trying. Next time! read more

The clientele is extremely diverse, so you'll definitely leave with a new friend. If you are a sports fan there are TV's all around, and if your game isn't on, just ask the bartenders. OK, five stars is a little generous for day one, but it's nice to have a REAL sports bar in Shady Acres. Welcome!! This place has over 40 TVs and is an actually bar bar though. No food besides the local food truck that may be parked there (coreanos today!). The staff is SUPER nice (especially Candice!) and it had a sick, wide-open deck. Random swings in the middle of the deck are either a nice touch or a disaster waiting to happen, but I'm down either way! This is a legit bar in a perfect area (cuz I can walk there!) I came here for a couple of drinks with friends. It turned out to be a great experience with an awesome vibe. There's seating/swings outside and seating inside. Heaters for when it's cold, fans for when it's hot. Customer service at the bar was good and there were waitresses walking around. drinks weren't cheap, but worth it Update: I liked it so much, that I went the following day after brunch. Absolutely love this bar, great staff, tons of Tvs, music is great, oooo Adult swings because why not and very spacious. I like the casual dress code so this place is def a fav for me. I had the Hot of the press it's a cucumber vodka drink and they had others but I'll have to go back and try. read more
