In the last 10 or so years in the area I've called RHA, one other place because they could get me to faster - had a bad experience, waited for RHA had an amazing experience, and decided they're going to be my ride-or-die for HVAC. I called them at 7am and by 11:30am their tech had fixed and tested everything and off to help someone else. Yesterday was the start of a heat wave and ... our AC unit quit on us. I called RHA as soon as they opened this morning at 7am, asked for Joe in particular, and they gave me a window between 10am and 12pm. Joe texted ahead of time at 10:30, diagnosed the blown capacitor, swapped it out, cleaned things up a bit, tested the coolant, answered a bunch of questions, and was on his way in just under an hour. The diagnostic was $129 and the capacitor was $186 today. By a complete and total coincidence, I had been running some experiments with home temperature sensors for the last week. You can literally see on these pictures exactly when the AC unit stopped working - and when RHA saved our bacon. The "other" place I called years ago only had a $79 diagnostic charge, but wanted to rip out and replace the entire HVAC system - and claimed we were taking our lives in our own hands by not getting it fixed with him immediately. Joe and RHA took care of everything for the diagnostic. Yeah, you can probably find someplace to charge you less for the diagnostic or maybe less for the part, but when your house is boiling hot / freezing cold, you want to be able to call on someone you can trust to help you out - and not take you for a ride.

Update August 22nd, 2023: Well I thought the AC unit had died but Nelson Air brought it back to…read morelife. For the first visit in early August, all they needed to do was manually spin the blower fan to get it unstuck. They didn't charge me for that service call. However, they told me that the fan bearings were going out and I would likely need a new fan soon. 20 minutes later the system stopped working so I called them again. They came out later that day, installed a new fan, and got the system working again. Several weeks later on a Saturday, my condenser (the unit outside) was on and air was going through the intake vent but no air was coming out of the vents in each room and the house was getting hotter. I climbed into the attic and noticed some ice on the refrigerant lines that run from the condenser unit to the AC/furnace in the attic. I called Nelson Air again and was advised that the evaporator coil (not sure if that's what it's called) was likely frozen and that if I turned the air conditioner off but left the fan on, the coil would unfreeze and the water would drain out. I turned off the air conditioner but left the fan on and sure enough, water started to stream out of the drain pipe near the condenser unit outside. I was also advised that my thermostat was old enough (1998) that it did not have a temperature swing or differential feature, which is essentially a ±1° degree buffer so that the system cycles on and off less often. They said that if your thermostat does not have this feature and you set the thermostat temperature low in the summer, your system will run too often and ice may form on the evaporator coil. They recommended that I replace the thermostat and said I could do it myself. I did manage to do it myself, but I had to call them to get some advice on connecting the common wire to the system in the attic. They provided that advice even though I called on a Saturday. System is working again. Can't recommend Nelson Air highly enough!
