Why did it take a quarantine for me to try this restaurant? You know how you get so comfortable going to the same old spots? When everything is slowed down and the "noise" is silenced, it's easier to get outside of your comfort zone. With that being said, last Friday I ordered a few dinner plates from the Mediterranean Cafe. We ordered a couple of Gyro Plates, Gyro with Hummus, Chicken Shwarma and Hummus and a Gyro salad. We also ordered a special they were running...$20 for 8 pita breads, two kinds of soup and two kinds of dip. We were all pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. (Maybe my family was happy to have something other than my cooking...hahaha.). All of us ate every bit of our dinners. We made a second dinner, the next night, with the items from the special. I'm not sure why we have never been here before. We have parked in front of it many times, and we always say we need to give it a try. We will definitely be back. Had the "Dinner for 2" special ($24.99) which came with a little bit of everything. -Starts with a big serving of salad then a huge plate of food (probably feeds 3-4) -I definitely love the beef skewer more than the chicken for sure. -The Pita bread and falafel were served warm. Love. Service was meh, it was a Sunday night with no other dine in customers. They were SUPER busy with takeout out orders from walkins and postmates. It took us a while to get their attention but mannnn, people love getting takeout. And oh.. Used to LOVE this place. Have always had consistently good food and service, until today. Ordered one beef and chicken combo, and one gyro and chicken combo. We got home tonight, open our boxes, to find that the gyro was replaced with an absurd amount of hummus. As if hummus replaces gyro???? When we called to ask if we can get the right order tomorrow, the woman already knew exactly what was wrong and said sorry we didn't have the gyro so we gave you hummus! But didn't say anything when I picked it up. Super dirty sneaky move! (literally just gave us a ton of hummus instead of gyro) refused to give us a new plate tomorrow saying she would give us a couple ounces of gyro tomorrow but couldn't replace the whole meal bc I still got the other stuff. I've been wanting to try a new Mediterranean restaurant for awhile now, found this spot in Hillcrest area and decided to give it a try. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and quickly seated. We had already read the lunch specials on signage at the entrance of the restaurant making ordering a breeze. I ordered the combo #5 and my date ordered combo #7. Our food arrived within 5-10 minutes after ordering. My plate was gyros in a pita with fries and Greek salad on the side. I had bottled water which was served at room temperature (not a problem for me). The fries were delicious and hot, fried perfectly. The salad was decent and served without dressing and cruets of oil and vinegar were furnished on the table. My gyros in the pita was served with tzatziki sauce and diced tomatoes and onions. The meat itself was just okay, not very flavorful, the sauce was bland and very watery making the pita mushy. What a bummer. read more

Overpriced, not so authentic mediterranean restaurant. Customer service is mediocre - either the waiter didn't seem to like his job or they are under staffed. On to food, ordered a chicken "shawarma" but it was more of a baked chicken slices, not the authentic shawarma I was expecting. I also ordered a salad, but unfortunately, it had hair in it. They did replaced it with a new one when I reported it but you can't help but feel a bit uneasy when you find hair in your food. The salad seemed to have the dressing on the side yet very fresh. Seemed to be missing the olives. But the owner made sure to get a side of them to make sure we were happy. There was a bell and I could see and hear that people were working inside in the kitchen. The door was open, but the screen door was locked.
