After a long day of errands and a couple hours on the road, I am starving. I pull up Google Maps and immediately upon the pictures, the food looks fantastic. But I did not know the treat I was in for. Not only was the food some of the best Mediterranean food I have ever tasted, but the service was incredible. Ed, the owner, was so kind and even handed us waters upon entry and gave us a hummus plate to try. They even still have a candy bowl in store, nobody does that anymore! Overall 10/10 experience. This establishment is conveniently located on Hill and Union, conveniently close to PCC. I stopped by for takeout at 5PM on a Tuesday and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. I ordered the shawarma chicken plate. There's an ample serving of chicken, garlic sauce, one pita, hummus, peppers and tahini. If you're looking for rice, there is none. The chicken was slightly dry but well seasoned. I wish the garlic sauce was subtle. No garlic breath here (darn...). My favorite thing about the plate was the hummus and I had enough leftovers to spread into three small meals. Service was quick and I got a free bottled water while waiting. If you want authentic, really delicious Mediterranean cuisine, this is the place. Had an absolutely scrumptious lunch. The gyro meat was very well seasoned, moist and plentiful. The tabouli was flavorful and perfectly balanced. Some tabouli has so much lemon juice you can't help but pucker when eating it. The hummus was creamy and just the right balance of tahini and chickpeas. The grape leaves were also very tasty. Upon being seated, the owner brought us a complementary cucumber and tomato salad which I could've made a meal of in and of itself. The restaurant has a sort of industrial chic vibe and is very clean. Again, we were served by the owner who was very friendly and you could tell He takes great pride in his cuisine and dedication to good food for his customers. What in the burnt ass food is this? Idk if they were having an off day or what but my food did not taste good at all. Every single piece of kebab was burnt and I mean BURNT. Grilled salmon was burnt too. I ain't trying to get cancer so I pretty much tossed out more than half the plate out. The only thing fully edible was the salad and pita bread. The garlic fries could have been better especially since they were so highly rated. It was more parsley than garlic and the fries tasted a bit stale. When it arrived, I was disappointed that they forgot the dressing, which was supposed to be a house made olive oil dressing. The salad itself was also a bit disappointing. The olives & feta were sparse. I would have preferred more. Pita bread was .95 cents each and came in the package from the store. It wasn't very fresh, which was another disappointment. Edmon greeted us with two cold bottles of water and explained the menu to us. We had a delicious, fresh shirazi salad and the soltani/kobideh kebab plate. It was fast and efficient, but freshly cooked and very filling. Many to go orders came and went at the same time. We ended up staying and eating because it was so welcoming and smelled so good.
