My 19 month old Cavalier began shaking his head very vigorously. He began yelping like he had been stung. Called my normal vet practice who refused to see him. I took him to Vet Med Mt. View. We were seen within 20 minutes. He was taken back to be worked on and within minutes reappeared without the foxtail that had lodged in his ear. Great vet who was concerned with this minor procedure. Our first time here (this past weekend) since our 14 year old cat was acting strange...after a few bouts of vomit, loss of appetite (which never happens!), and appears to be in pain whenever we picked him up...We normally go to Banfield but since it was after hours, Banfield's recording recommended MedVet. Upon arrival, we registered easily, via our iPhone in the clean waiting area, while they took our cat in for an initial assessment. It wasn't too long before one of the workers came back with our cat to let us know that they were able to take a urine sample and assess that he wasn't in any obvious danger - like a recurring UTI. Gave us options and some advice, before sending us home with peace of mind that he likely just ate too much grass or something when he was outdoor and feeling sick from that but his vitals etc appears to be fine. The biggest surprise and bonus was when we went back up to the front desk to pay, they told us not to worry. They wouldn't charge us! We would have been happy to pay! Amazing experience from start to finish! Thank goodness my vet recommended this facility. Extremely professional staff that all exhibited empathy and concern for the wellbeing of my dog. Was able to quickly schedule a surgery consult desperately needed. Facility is extremely clean with plenty of parking. Arrived 30 mins early for our appointment, but fortunately the doctor was willing to see us immediately upon arrival. Dr Nielsen was outstanding! She quickly had a full understanding of the situation and provided me a confident plan of action in providing my dog immediate unscheduled care on the same day given the severity of his open wound. Truly felt fortunate that Dr Nielsen and her team were assigned to our case. The hospital provided continuous updates via text, email, and phone throughout the process. UPDATE: No one ever called me. Not to check up on my cat (standard procedure for Vets) and not after I called in distress over my cat's condition 1 day later. I was told someone would call me back. They never did. Again, I don't care how they respond here to my review. It wasn't the discussion about charges that was the problem. It was the entire experience. They want your $. They gouge. Then don't care once they have it. Like I said, you can take your pet to another area and the Vet is half the price. This place a disorganized, low empathy racket. It's about the money here. Not your pet or you. Charged me exorbitant amount for simple procedure. At discharge there was an additional $19 owed which I paid. They were extremely concerned with whether I had paid the $19 to the front desk before they said I could go. Once I left with my cat, someone called me to tell me my cat was ready and I could come pick him up! I was already on my way home with my cat. They said I needed to pick up medication and get home care instructions and to come back. ‍. Went back, got the meds, came home and my cat was extremely stressed with the cone on. The cone extended so far out, he couldn't eat. He was so uncomfortable, meowing and and thrashing in the floor making his wound bleed more. I called Med Vet to ask them what I should do and was put on hold to wait for a doctor. After about 5 minutes I was told the doctor will be a while and that they'd let her know what was going on. Never heard back. No one ever called me back. It's 3am as I'm writing this and my cat is still having an extremely hard time and won't stay still. Hasn't gone to the bathroom or eaten in 24 hours now. Med Vet got my $500. That's what they care about. My pet nor myself matter. I could drive 3 hours north and pay half this amount and be shown some empathy and receive after care advice when my pet is in distress. I recommend anyone living in the Bay Area travel outside of the Bay Area for any pet care. The vets here will rake you over the coals and not even flinch. They assume if you live here, you're wealthy and they price procedures accordingly. Take your pet to another county for care if you can. Update: 2 days later. Still no one has called me. My cat removed his cone and has not stopped wailing at the door, rolling around on the ground and scratching his wound. I have to watch him 24/7. I haven't been able to go to work or sleep. It's been extremely stressful and no one from Med Vet has called me to see how he is doing. They do not care. They got their money and that's what matters. read more

When you walk into this place just be prepared to be laser focus on the problem at hand. They will try to upsell you on a bunch of stuff. Your cat will have a gallop that needs cardiology consult, GI issue that needs a GI consult, and an internist to review dietary needs. Don't fall for this BS Whatever problem you have with your pet, don't believe their treatment plan. It is almost 1000% more than what your pet needs, 2-3 times more than you need to spend. Unless your pet is dying in the next hour, do yourself a favor and walk out of there. Collect yourself emotionally, call a real doctor for humans, like your doctor. Get a second opinion and ask your doc what would you do if this were me. You'll be surprised the treatment might be way simpler and way less expensive. I have friends in VC space who invest in vet clinics. Their number one goal for their docs and staff is to monetize every unsuspected hapless pet owner like you with minimum of 10k spending once you become a client of their clinic, maybe not in the first visit but for sure in future visits. It's not uncommon to spend 30k for surgery that your pets don't need. These VC guys were laughing about it over martinis. Just check your emotion at the door and get a second opinion from a human doctor. Also remember that human medications and treatment protocols are tested on animals for FDA approval. My two cents. There is always some upselling in vet clinics but this place takes it to another level. Go elsewhere. read more

Took my poor dog to another vet on Monday, and for $330, the vet found: 1. No constipation at all, stool was soft 2. However, there was a painful anal disease that made my dog want "to go" all the time when there was nothing to go, a hallmark for the anal disease, I was told. 3. Came home with "Metronidazole". By Tuesday, the swelling on his butt was very visually reduced, and he is now pooping normally. read more

Had to bring my cat here for repeat vomiting. Wait was surprisingly fast. Front desk staff were nice and walked us through the process. Comfortable and clean waiting area with coffee pods. The doctor visit was brief, but they offered some fluids and anti nausea meds and were transparent about pricing- I didn't feel taken advantage of with excess tests. Total bill was about 400$ and was out in about an hour and a half, which felt very reasonable. Plus, if we have to come back within 48 hours, the 250$ fee to be seen is waived, which I also found very fair. Will definitely return if needbe for pet emergencies and recommend. read more

The staff seemed competent and compassionate, and were very patient with us (this is our first/new dog). Dr. Kellman was great - very competent, excellent communicator, very helpful. If it weren't for our lack of confidence in the veterinary staff at MedVet, we may have lost our husky. They were recommended by our primary vet, but we will absolutely never be going near this place again. We brought our dog in after she vomited blood on Tuesday. We thought it may have been something she dug out of the trash last Sunday which I told them she most likely ate foil with steak grease on it. They charged us 1,100 for consultation (we never even spoke to the vet in person), the x-rays (which apparently showed nothing wrong, but we wouldn't know cause we never saw them), and prescribed omeprazole and sucralfate (which they haphazardly misdiagnosed ulcers) with NO aftercare instructions. Our dog worsened by Wednesday night and had diarrhea almost every 45min-1hour, I called them several times throughout the night, 10pm, 3am, 7am, and then 11am, not only did they put me on a long hold each time but each time they just kept saying to continue with the medication and the diarrhea was normal, which I had given new symptoms not previously present. My last call to them on Thursday at 11am, the front desk at MedVet was giving me an annoyed tone over the phone and said "if you are uncomfortable with the medications, you can stop giving her and come in for a re-evaluation, but we will put her in the kennel for at least a few hours before our vet is available to check on her. " by that point, I was certain they are incompetent and they couldn't care less for my dog's well-being once they got the money and got us out the door, so I called another emergency vet and told them about the symptoms, they advised us to come in right away, so within an hour we were shown the x-rays showing pancreatitis and colitis and were advised that she needs to be put on IV and hospitalized right away, if I'd listened to MedVet that her diarrhea was normal, I'd have never found out she has pancreatitis. After my dog was hospitalized at the other emergency clinic, I called Medvet again to express my grievance and ask for a refund. The hospital director called me and admitted they didn't provide any after care instructions and refused to give us a refund, and she had the audacity to accuse me that I chose not to bring my dog in which I'd called several times to ask for a professional opinion and the vet told me that it's normal to have diarrhea. I trusted their professional opinion but they misdiagnosed my dog and prescribed $130 pills that may or may not have made her situation worse. read more

I had to bring our puppy to the emergency care after he ate a corn cob. All the ERs by us were filled or were not picking up the phone. I finally reached MedVet and the receptionist was very polite. She also was upfront about the wait time for inducing our puppy to vomit - she said it takes 1-2 hours but my wait time can be 4-6 hours if a critical care case comes in. With that in mind, I drove the 20 minutes to get there. We were checked in quickly and asked to sit and wait. The waiting area was very clean and had bottle water for the pets as well as a clean human bathroom. All of the vet techs were so friendly and I could tell that they each loved animals. We were done within an hour from check in to check out and the price was very reasonable. Hopefully I never have to visit again but, if I did, I would come to MedVet again (the drive was worth the compassionate care!). read more

I brought my cat in for sudden lethargy and I also made a note that his eyes looked abnormal/swollen - however, the vet confirmed that there is nothing wrong with eyes. One week later my cat has pink eye and his eyes are practically shut. How was this not caught during the visit? My fur baby became ill all of a sudden; she was not able to walk with her hind legs. I called her vet in a panic, and I made the mistake of listening to their recommendation of taking my fur baby to this Vet. The gentleman who checked her in, saw that she was in distress and was able to see that her bottom was sore. This being the case, he did not do a rectal check so that he would not hurt her further. Unlike him, the vet who saw her Leeza Kuo/ Meera Ramesh went ahead and did a rectal check. After I got my fur baby back, she appeared more distressed and her bottom was super red/ swollen. I questioned why they did a rectal check! And they simply stated that it was part of their protocol. I was informed, with no empathy that most likely my baby was suffering from IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). And that surgery could be anywhere between $15,000-$25,000. I was also sent home with the a medication that interacted with another one. I arrived home with my very sick baby, just to receive a call from the Vet Kuo asking if I could go right back to get the right medication. They gave her much pain/ muscle relaxant medication that I was scared she would die that day. I ended up taking her to UC Davis Animal Hospital. Its a bit of a distance, but it was totally worth it. If you love your fur babies, like I love mine, stay away from this Vet. Take them where they actually care and provide the care that they need. read more

Even one star is too much for them. We took our dog there earlier today with blood diarrhea and foam vomiting. A dog with these symptoms going on for a day or two can literally die. They didn't diagnose his situation as an emergency and after 2 hours back and fourth they said he has to go home and come back tomorrow. Even though, they themselves witnessed his diarrhea being full of blood. I begged them that I know my dog is not good, their response: sorry, we are busy!! We took our dog to another hospital immediately, and he has been hospitalized since and has to stay on IV over night at the hospital until the results of his tests come back. read more

My wife and I were on vacation when our son called that he suspected our dog, Momo, had an ear problem. It was Sunday, and our usual vet was closed, so he called MedVet and spoke with Dr. Todd Kelman who saw Momo quickly and diagnosed and treated ear infections in both ears. One major issue is that Momo had serious problems with certain anesthetics in the past. Dr Kelman worked with us and our son as he went though Momo's medical history to identify the anesthetics that had caused problems. After sedating and treating Momo's ears, she woke up without any problems and even had good energy to jump back into the car. Our son brought Momo home and had complete follow on medications and instructions. We thank Dr. Kelman for his competence and caring. read more

They gave me options and really helped with cost and did not try to upcharge or order tests they may not need. I cannot recommend the doctors and staff at MetVet enough! We had to bring in our 2-year-old doodle to the ER after she accidentally swallowed a tiny rubber ball at the park. it became pretty quickly clear that she needed an endoscopy, and Dr. Chan walked us through all the expectations on the phone beforehand. We expressed how much we'd want to avoid surgery, but understood that if the endoscopy was not successful, we'd have to go the surgery route. Although the doctor was only supposed to try the endoscopy for 40 minutes before moving on to surgery, she and the staff (as many as 10 of them at one time to attend to our pup!) tried tirelessly for TWO HOURS until they were finally to get the slippery ball out without resorting to surgery. They also did not overcharge us for the extra time than the estimate they provided us beforehand. Our dog came home the same night with only a mild stomach upset and was back to her happy and normal self within 2 days. We are very grateful for Dr. Chan and the staff for providing such patient and excellent care in this accident. It is very clear that they love animals and would try the least disruptive treatment as much as possible. I definitely hope we don't have any more ER visits in the future, but if we do, we'll definitely choose MedVet again! read more

I highly recommend the Internist, Dr. Sparago at MedVet. One of my 3 dogs, Bell, has had a variety of concerning symptoms (vomiting, increased peeing, losing weight, etc) and after thorough but inconclusive testing brought up more concerns, our regular vet recommended seeing an internist. Anyone who has been in this situation with a pet knows that it is very stressful and very expensive. If only we all had unlimited funds to go down every avenue to figure out what is going on with our pets. Dr. Sparago was extremely thorough in looking over the tests that had already been done, and was patient and clear in his explanations about next steps to try to get to the bottom of Bell's issues. He also was understanding that I could not afford doing every suggested test during our initial visit and helped me figure out what the most pressing concerns were. When Bell began displaying new symptoms (a UTI) the day after we had done all her testing, he was very caring and helpful when he called me back to both go over her lab work and his recommendations for next steps. I live about 45 minutes away from this clinic and he promptly got the records to her regular vet so she could use them for important information needed to treat her. This was all very appreciated, as I was pretty distraught about her UTI discomfort and the high blood pressure that was also discovered during her tests at MedVet. I am grateful for Dr. Sparago's care, thoroughly and thoughtful problem solving approach for the whole situation which isn't yet fully figured out, and his complete willingness to get information to her regular vet. If you have an animal with concerning health issues that require a specialist, I highly recommend MedVet and Dr. Sparago. It is so stressful to have a pet not doing well and it means so much to have caring and very competent doctors helping you along the way. read more

We brought our dog Mighty on 12/16 because he was feeling so sick. There was a shortage of vet around town and we had a hard time securing an appt . Even his regular vet left the practice this year. Finally I gave an appt here at 1am on a rainy night. The staff and the doctor helped Mighty and gave him some antibiotic. Even though I couldn't go into the clinic with Mighty, I could tell he was treated with compassion and love. Dr. Pfizer called a few days later to check on Mighty and gave a good summary of the diagnostic report for me to take to the vet I will see on Monday. My kitty came in for an infection and Dr H did small surgery and said to return to remove the drain. She also circled in red this info on discharge paperwork. The incision looked properly well done but it's shocking especially since they left all traces of blood on his white fur. I'm not complaining about the cost - that was to be expected but for that much money cleaning him up would be little effort for them. Four days later I arrived and Megan said that there is not a drain. The Tech person educated me on what a drain looks like (so that I wouldnt make that mistake again, what?). I asked that they tell powers that be to not make that error again. Both M and Tech were defensive talking over each other and me and said that they would never have a drain for this procedure. I left feeling like they had zero interest in hearing me out and crazy as if I made up drain. Having my paperwork produced a sincere apology from a Dr. Claire who said they had given me a template paper that also included an old email address for the doctor. She sounded genuine - hence the 3 stars. No word from tech, Megan or the doctor who did not put in a drain but told me to come back to take out said drain. That latter is still disturbing. read more
