I hate writing a review like this. I have rarely ever been so disappointed enough to complain. Me and my partner decided to give this place a try after our go-to spot was too long of a wait. Upon arrival, we were pleased that it wasn't too busy on a Sunday morning and the décor was kitsch and charming. In retrospect, not busy on a Sunday morning in Long Beach is a red flag. We were pretty shocked to see the prices. $17 for a breakfast plate (and if you want to add a single pancake, it's $4.50!), or any of the $17 griddle plates require an additional $11 for eggs and protein. I'm sorry but... ELEVEN DOLLARS? At that point, it might as well be a bougie gentrification restaurant in LA charging $28 for French toast. However, we stayed optimistic. We thought, "Perhaps it's pricey but really good 'mom and pop' food." I ordered the churro French toast. I wanted 2 eggs with it, and the waitress told me it was $4 per egg. A single egg. Four dollars? So I just ordered the meal as is. My partner had the Chicken & Waffles. The food came and we were flabbergasted. The chicken and waffle was a moderately sized Eggo-grade looking waffle with a "fried" chicken cutlet breast plopped on top, sopping with butter and a piece of burnt bramble garnish (which I think was a depressing thyme stick?) that looked like they picked it from a cemetery. I'm sorry, but if you live in SoCal and mess up chicken and waffles... it's a sin. The cutlet seemed like it was from a freezer, pre-breaded. It was equal parts bland...to the point the flavor lingered in a negative way for hours. Dry, and the "fried" part was slithering off the breast. It was nasty. The waffle was spongy at best. Now, the Churro French Toast. It looked like someone chucked two slices of medium-sized French toast on a plate, ran to Baskin-Robbins and bought their strawberry and chocolate ice cream syrup sauces in a jar, cracked them open and dumped them on the plate, opened a bag of Vons sliced almonds and flicked them over it, then sent it out. It was unwell. The French toast was hard and dry. The whipped cream was semi-deflated. It felt like I ordered a child's plate. To top it all off, the coffee was $5 for what tasted like expired Folgers. If I wanted gas station coffee, I'd go to a gas station and pay $2. We had to eat gum to try and erase the taste... which barely helped. Sitting here now writing this, my stomach feels gross. It ruined our morning. I would have felt better eating a McDonald's McGriddle meal than that. The service was okay. The waitress was nice. But after the meal, it took 47 years to pay the check and made us feel like we were in prison. We will never go here again. In fact, I feel like I should have been paid to eat that. It felt like we were on a hidden-camera show. I will be talking about this bad experience for a long time... especially with a near $50 price tag attached. We feel scammed. I could of had that experience off a truck stop exit in rural Kansas for $20 and it would of tasted better. I would not suggest you eat here unless you want stomach depression. read more

The 8 small Luke warm onion rings served separately were awful (it was made batter and panko). The 12 pieces of french fries lacked everything. With all the fabulous reviews, I was hoping to have found a new spot. Perhaps breakfast would be better. It is by far our favorite breakfast spot in Bixby knolls. Soon after we discovered this hidden little gem we have not stopped going. I have taken anyone in my life with whom I have breakfast with. If anyone asks I'm like let's go here and they are all happy when we get there and see what a cute and friendly place it is. It's like being in grandmas house back in the day. Very homey and the staff is always pleasant and attentive. I have never left unhappy. I truly love this place and I recommend it to anyone that I can. Also, kid friendly. One of my favorites is the TV playing the classics. And to top it off an entire menu for vegan/ vegetarian. And an amazing habanero sauce. read more

So freaking cute! Loved the environment however it got REALLY loud. The service was great. Enjoyed the food. Found the option of tater tots or breakfast potatoes funny because I order led the breakfast potatoes and they were essentially home made Tater tot's. The only thing I didn't like was the random hard, cold, bare pieces of sourdough that came with my omelette. Nothing to put on it and no other options to order instead. This is such a cute restaurant. Great breakfast! Lots of interesting items on the menu. I had the chicken and waffles, and it was so good. The chicken was cooked to perfection, very flavorful and moist. Very generous portions. We also had the lemon, blueberry ricotta pancakes that were so delicious and fluffy. Oh my gosh, they were so decadent you could taste the ricotta, the lemon... Yum. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is the prices are a little high. I finally got a chance to try out this restaurant. It's been on my list for while, plus I've heard great things. Where my experience went wrong was I had placed an order for pick up. I arrived about 15-20 mins after placing the order. Once I spoke to the host regarding my order I was informed that it would be ready in 2 minutes. I had ordered an omelet and a BLT. I then waited for about another 10 minutes and the host had not checked back in with me. I found a waitress and she then checked on my food and miraculously it was ready. I drove home which was only 7 minutes away and once I got to my food it was cold. Very unacceptable. read more

First time at Meema's last week and it wasn't a disappointment! I ordered the chilaquiles and added the steak. I don't normally order Chilaquiles unless I hear great things, or homemade. 7/10 for Flavor, Spice and Portion size The Breakfast Plate looked really good too. The breakfast potatoes that came with it had perfect amount of crunch and very tasty! Got in pretty quick on the weekend. The service and the Ambience is great. When we arrive we were so excited and thought it looked so cute. There is probably 25 tables in the whole place. There was a 30 min wait which we were fine with. We ordered and then waited .... And waited .... And waited .... And waited for 55 min for our food. When we finally got it it was cold. Our order was wrong also. The server tried to offer us ketchup to make up for it. This place was nostalgia all over the place. My partner and I mused over the old grocery ads boasting 2 dz eggs for 69 cents lol. The service was impeccable. I ordered a breakfast with a vegan bacon that included a pancake. The pancake was huge that I ended up sharing with my daughter. All the food was fresh and cooked well. The coffee was delicious and I ask for almond milk which they served. I ask asked for habanero sauce which was more like a paste that is made there and delicious to my taste buds. We had the Chilequiles with spicy sauce (mild option also) and Steak and Eggs. The eggs on both dishes were very "farmy" lol with orange yolk. They have an impressive variety of pancakes. I tried just a plain one first. It was ok. The texture was good but it had a boxed taste to it - not that it came from a box mind you. It was just something about the flavor. Food was okay but customer service was not great. We went in with a large party and anticipated long wait times. We were quoted an hour and decided to stick it out. Our waitress came out about 40 minutes into our wait and asked if we would be willing to split our party in half and sit at 2 booths. We reluctantly agreed to it as it may get us seated faster. She comes back out 5 minutes later and says that actually, the large party before us chose the booths so we will have to keep waiting for a table to open up. We continued to wait as now at least we would get seated together. Two tables opened and they were pushed together and set up for a larger party so we expected to be seated there since we were next. Nope! They move the party that had already chosen the booths and ordered all their food and drinks instead. Mind you this party had already been seated at the booths for 10-15 minutes at this point. Really crappy experience, no apologies or explanation from staff either. It was just ignored as if it didn't happen right in front of us. Will not be returning, unfortunately. read more
