Definitely a good spot in Chinatown for local dim sum. A good selection of standard dishes and so close to the parking garage. The flavors were good and standard...could have better condiments (soy, spicy and mustard provided) like spicy black bean chili sauce, chili paste or black vinegar. Especially liked the bean curd roll and crab. Service was fast and friendly.

We went in the morning, so it wasn't too busy. The workers there don't push you into ordering quickly, which is nice. The dim sum is simple and familiar. The chicken feet aren't spicy like other places I've tried, which is good. Would probably come by again :)

Went there for lunch and the restaurant was not as busy as before with lots of tables open We haven't been there in a while and decided to go there since we were in town. The Shrimp pork hash shumai was not the same it lacked the flavor and texture was different. The Steamed Char Sui bun was good the bun was soft and lots of filling. The Chicken feet was not very good it had a sour taste and not like the flavor it use to be. The Scallops dim sum was very good and tasty! The half moon the wrap was dry and hard not moist and chewy, it was one of the worst half moon I ever had. The dry char siu chow fun was on the bland side, not like before. Some friends told me that they were closing, but told them they are still open for business? I wonder if they sold to someone else but kept the name? Because the food is not the same as before! Or maybe different cook? Either way was not happy with the dishes. No parking you have to park in the public parking close by or find street parking. Service was good, food came out fast.

Mei Sum is where you go for your average, comfort dim sum food. It consists of that small mom-and-pop vibes where although you do have to wait sometimes for a table to be cleaned or your order to be taken, you can see they're understaffed and working hard. The dim sum itself can be a bit pricey with items ranging from $5.75 to $7.50, but hey, that's just Oahu prices nowadays. Note: you do get free tea and they take credit card!

I really wanted to like this Dim Sum place and live so close but unfortunately their selection for Dim Sum is all meat, nothing for a vegetarian except Spring Rolls. So odd to me how limiting the menu is. Whenever I travel to other states and countries I can easily find Veggie Dim Sum. So, anyway, I ordered from the meal menu, Mushrooms w/veggies and that was also not great either, see the pic. So if you're a meat eater you may enjoy.

This dim sum spot is the definition of unpretentious -- simple setting, no gimmicks, just plate after plate of steaming, delicious comfort food. The har gow and siu mai were packed and flavorful, cakes had the perfect crisp edges, and the buns were soft with just the right hint of sweetness. Service was quick and unfussy, and I loved how each round made me want to order "just one more" before leaving. Not a place for atmosphere, but absolutely one for flavor. I left full, happy, and already planning my return.

food was so tasty, ended up ordering extra! Service was great food came out really fast, lots of seating in the restaurant but very busy!

10/10 would recommend . Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable. Very convenient spot for anyone in the downtown area. It wasnt very busy for being a Sunday evening.

Mei Sum was wonderful 20 years ago. Not. Anymore. Most of their fried options like Taro Scallop come out super oily like they've been fried multiple times. Pretty gross actually. Most of the steamed dim sum is average at least. We ordered vegetables and it's served basically with pure oyster sauce on the side. Then after a friend paid the bill for a pretty large tab, one of the older ladies rudely said "tip no included" and recommend she pay $36 or 20% I mean, OMFG!

    Do they have high chairs?

    Don't know.

    Is there parking?

Metered street parking and underground City Parking garage accessible from Beretania Street. Street parking is free on Sundays and (I believe) on state holidays.

Can we dine in? Or is it only takeout and curbside?

    Dine in

It mentions curbside is this for real? Where is the designated stalls for this? I want in

I haven't seen any curbside. To begin with they are so busy so I honestly don't think they have curbside assistance with your dim sum. If anything just park nearby and run in and grab your food!

Is dim sum served all day?

yes and its really yummy i totally recommend it..

    Is it BYOB?

    Yes!

Do they have xaio long bao?

Yes they have XLB, 3 per order not very large.

The restaurant wasn't small, but there were just a lot of people. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. What's great about this place is that they have these paper menus. You can check off what you want while you're waiting. As soon as you get seated, you can just hand over the menu to the server and it makes the process a lot faster. It didn't take that long for us to get our food. We ordered a lot of items. We got the shrimp dumplings, black bean spareribs, beef look fun, Shanghai pork dumplings, steamed salted egg custard buns, pan fried turnip cake, seafood bean curd roll, sesame balls with red bean, taro puffs and chicken dumplings. Everything was on point except the sesame balls with red bean. They were small and the breading was thick. Pass on those. My two favorites were the black bean spareribs and the salted egg custard buns. I love salted duck eggs. The prices here are a bit more than the average dim sum spot. Most of the steamed baskets were $7-$8. If you use your American Savings Bank debit card you get a discount: $7 off $50, $15 off $100 or $75 off $500. Free parking in the basement of the building.

Better late than never, but come too late and missed out on the good stuff?…read more Honolulu Seafood Restaurant is a sister restaurant to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. Located in Downtown in the same space where Yong Sing, Mandalay, and the short-lived Bourbon Street used to be. Inside feels and looks essentially the same as the prior restaurants. Huge, open, two levels. Would you believe there was once a time where the second floor was an option to sit because it was just that busy? Hours is basically 10am everyday till 3pm, then 5-930pm. Seems like the hours are geared towards Downtown workers. Where to park? 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, park in the Ali'i Place Parking garage. Entrance is right past the restaurant. Only 75 cents per half hour and restaurant validates one dollar. After 5pm on weekdays, and 8-1am on weekends, park at Bishop Square Parking. Entrance is across from the restaurant, entrance from the left lane of Alakea. Cost is $1.50 with validation. The regular menu is exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. However, the dim sum is not the case. It's much, much less. There's only 16 total, and 7 more on weekends only. It's essentially the bare basics (but no beef ball!). All the dim sum looks exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant, but everything was on the bland side and just felt like it was missing something. Steamed Spareribs was one note and meat was not as tender. Beef Look Funn was good. The look funn had perfect thinness and texture. If have this dish, how come cannot have steamed beef balls? Chicken Feet was good. Soft, tasty, and meaty. But just ate and felt one note. Pan Fried Shrimp and Chives Dumplings was pretty good. Pan fried very well. Generous amount of filling. Just on the bland side. Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf was pretty good! Soft, moist mochi rice with a good amount of tasty filling. The Bean Curd Roll with Pork was probably the most flavorful dim sum of the meal. Jam-packed with tasty and flavorful filling. Overall, the dim sum was decent and almost similar to Kapiolani Seafood, but it was a touch on the bland side and a slight step below. Service was good. Friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quick. Inside was cool, spacious, and comfortable. I want to come back on my lunch break! I don't mind dim sum'ing solo! Hopefully there'll be more dim sum choices. I remember seeing on social media they had some unique items only at this location. But I guess I'm too late! **I heard some news, maybe rumors, but the Kapiolani Seafood location might be forced to move due to that and the next lot being torn down for..... you guessed it, more condos! It might have an effect on the Honolulu location. We'll see.

In total, we had 13 different items, which was served timely and everything was very tasty! Of all that we ordered, my personal favorite was the crispy soy wrapped shrimp patty. The outer crust is a thin soybean layer which had an excellent crunch. Inside, is a generous portion of shrimp patty that is perfect in flavor and texture. Owner Kun Hang Liang and wife Karen Tam immigrated to HI many years ago and have always dreamt of owning their own restaurant, which is now this restaurant. The restaurant's offerings are extensive. They include: * Dim sum: custard tart, mochi ball/puff, fried taro, dumplings, siu mai, chicken feet, spare ribs, pork buns, turnip cake, seafood bean curd, mochi rice, look fun, soups. * Chef's specials: lotus root stuffed w/ shrmp, bbq roasted pork rib, slow-simmered soup, braised oxtail, calamari, whole chickens/ducks. * Appetizer: jellyfish, spring roll, gau gee, fried shrimp ball. * BBQ roast: duck, char siu, chicken. * Soup: seafood, hot sour, chicken, beef, egg drop, won ton, pumpkin. * Sichuan: shrimp, beef, fish, chicken, pork, ma po tofu. * Seafood: lobster, crab, fish, shrimp, clams, calamari, scallops. * Salt & pepper: calamari, shrimp, pork chop, tofu, chicken wings. * Meat: beef, pork, chicken. * Sizzling casserole: lamb/beef stew, seafood w/ tofu, prawns & vermicelli, kau yuk. * Sizzling platter: beef tenderloin, oysters, stuffed eggplant. * Tofu/egg: steam egg custard/tofu, egg w/ bittermelon, egg fu yung. * Veggies: mushrooms w/ veggies, broccoli w/ dried flounder, green beans, ong choy, choy sum, spinach, lotus root. * Starch: fried rice, chow mein, noodles in soup, chow fun, rice noodles. With the extensive menu offerings, there are some items that outshine others, which are to be expected. We ordered the following: * Siu mai. Enjoyed the large siu mai, which the dense pork was mixed with mushrooms and water chestnuts (no shrimp). It was tasty and flavorful. * Jin dui. Loved the large thin-crusted coconut/peanut jin dui, just how my mom used to make them! Most restaurants don't "roll" them enough to get that thin crust, but here, they make it right! * Sticky rice in lotus leaf. Chunks of lup cheong and whole salted egg yolks with mochi rice make this a winner! * Char siu look fun. This is one of my favorite dishes; however, it was not prepared well. Generous chunks of hardened and seemingly old char siu filled the look fun, making it difficult to eat and with a lack of tender flavored char siu. Loved that the sweet sauce is served separately in a squeeze bottle so that you can use as much as you want. * Dong Po Pork. This Hangzhou dish is pork belly braised in soy sauce, Shaoxiang wine, and rock sugar until it's tender and melts in your mouth. The pork bell is tied with a string to hold its shape, and staff will use a scissors to remove it. This dish is savory, sweet and has a rich caramelization; served with broccoli to balance the richness of the sauce. Eaten with rice, I really enjoyed this dish! Well plated and executed! Portions are generous, but price point may be contentious, as some dishes appear to be over-priced, like the char siu look fun. We arrived mid-morning on a weekday, and it was not very crowded. Staff was very friendly, attentive, and bilingual, which made communication easy. Service was quick and efficient. No moving carts, as you're given a sheet of listed dim sum to check off the ones you want to order. The large interior is spacious and clean. Its banquet hall can hold a max of 30+ tables for a private party. There are also smaller private rooms. Extensive renovations were made after the previous restaurant closed. Hours of operation are Thurs to Tues 8a to 9p and Wed 8a to 3p. Regular entrees are not prepared until 10a when the cooks arrive for work. Private parking available in back of the restaurant, municipal parking lots are nearby, and metered street parking are available. Extensive delicious menu offerings, generous portions, and efficient and friendly customer service will likely result in return visits to try other items on the menu. We wish the Liangs continued success with their restaurant! Support local!

After renovation, it's much cleaner and brighter inside. Their Cheung fun and Congee are always my favorite. Chinese donut was not as good as before. Tastes like pre-made. Wonton soup was tasty. If you pass by Chinatown, Lam's is one of the good places to go.

Inside, the space feels busy with tables and people moving around. There are benches inside for those waiting for a table. We had to wait a bit before we were seated but they seemed efficient in ushering people in and out of the restaurant. The middle had smaller tables, which seemed most suitable for two people. The sides had larger tables for larger parties. The tables felt pretty close together but we enjoyed the stool/bench chairs we sat on. They were different than what we are used to in restaurants. Our order was taken quickly. We decided to get the beef chow fun, yang chow fried rice, and cheong fun. The cheong fun was good, especially after adding hoisin sauce. The texture was soft and the portion was quite decent. The chow fun was also yummy. It was tasty without being overbearing. The fried rice was our favorite. It was flavorful and included a variety of ingredients. The prices were not bad either, considering the portion sizes. We hope to be back one day to try more of what they have!
