** TO THOSE COMING HERE FOR YOUR THANKSGIVING TURKEY being mis-led by a very deceptive newspaper ad, thinking you will be getting a turkey "half off" at some incredible price if you only spend $20 in other shopping: - Very misleading ads (both in current newspaper ad, and at the actual store freezer location). - First off, if nothing more - see the photos for the Butterball turkey example. The two prices advertised are different. At the very minimum, this should be fixed. - At first glance, you may think - wow - if I spend $20 in the store I will get this turkey for HALF OFF the price. The price you "see" in the newspaper advertisements is NOT THE ORGINAL PRICE - but rather - a very deceptive "sale price" - they don't distinguish this for obvious reasons as they want to bait you into the store. Since there is no fine print or "original price per pound" listed in the newspaper ad, most people casually think they will be getting "half off" the $1.09 for Butterball (so - .55 cents per pound) if they spend $20 elsewhere in the store Not so. - Long story short, there is no real "sale" or "huge bargain" here. What Meijer is doing is jacking up the prices of the turkeys by almost a dollar a pound. The REGULAR PRICE of the Butterball turkey - for example - has been jacked up to about $2.18 a pound. Just for reference sake, Butterball turkeys are NEVER that much per pound, even during off-times of the year. If you look in your competitors' newspapers (Jewel, Wal-Mart, Costco, Ultra, etc.), they are all selling the Butterball turkeys for all pretty much the same price right now (between 99cents and about $1.09) - only you DON'T have to spend an additional $20 in their store. - Just be weary of your prices and the deceptive way the ads are written. Overall if you spend $20, yes you are still getting the turkey for a decent price. However, you are not getting anything "HALF OFF", unless of course you jack up the regular price of the turkeys by over 100%. - We spoke to a store manager about this. While she didn't concede this notion, she did apologize to us and say "I can see your point..." Just some other stuff: - Meijer can use some help with some additional cashiers. The lines were backed up a ton today with only about 4 cash registers open. This was on a Friday morning around 10am - NOT a peak time. You would have thought management would have opened up another 1-2 lanes temporarily to ease the length of the lines, but they didn't. - Finally - know your prices. While Meijer does have sale items, many other things you can find much cheaper at the usual competitors. For example, the 5-quart brand of oil I buy for my car I can find for between 17.99 and about 19.99 at Wal-Mart. At Meijer, the same exact bottle they wanted 25.99 for. Not cool with how Meijer advertised this "huge turkey sale", though. Deceptive and obviously the newspaper ads were drawn up in such a way and meant to "get people into the store" - only then will you see the actual prices of the turkeys once you are standing in front of the freezer. I give No Stars!!! This Meijer made me feel Embarrassed, and I felt they was being RACIST!!! I always shop here I had no problem, even my good friend works here. So I had no issue until yesterday 05/22/18. I usually use checks here, doesn't matter starter checks, convince checks u get from your bank tailer. For some apparent reason because my ID did not match my check, also to mention, I even brought my mailed account summary to prove, even though thats none of there business to see;I just moved addresses they still refused me. They didn't even try, all they said was that's there policy. Really??!! I have used two starter checks and convince checks, no problem, but all of a sudden they won't, it's because I'm a African American, nothing else. Yes the cashier was a OLD WHITE lady, the COS was a WHITE LADY, and so was The so called Manger they asked Was a Tall WHITE MAN with salt and pepper hair with glasses..and this was around 6pm central time. I have never felt so embarrassed, and the crazy thing is, I still paid for my purchase. Also the manager says; Could you tell me who cashed your check before??? This store is worse than Wal-Mart. They sells strawberries with hair growing on them. Outdated dairy products and the management staff is terrible! Ann is the manager over grocery and she is terrible at her job! Don't EVER buy anything from the Produce area! Almost everything has mold and fur growing out of it! The Deli area has mice! The customer service and the associates following me for no apparent reason, and a surplus of Caucasian employees indicates to me that they are racist. I asked a person that worked in electronics and he quickly said no without evening looking and trying to help. I looked for it found it in 2-3 minutes. I love Meijer and shop there for groceries. Produce and deli is pretty good- Check expiration dates on everything though I often find things such as dairy and dressings expired. Prices are good and use Mperks- you will save alot! read more
