We came here having been to several restaurants in the Mekong plaza and eagerly awaiting dim sum. Now I am no expert on theses little packets of goodness, so I review with that caveat. I ordered from the cart, somewhat point and taste. I had the salt fried shrimp, the shrimp dumplings sticky rice in leaf packets and the calamari. It was a lot and more than ample for two. The shrimp were huge and fried shell on head intact, which was fine with me, but for those who don't want to eyeball their meal, take heed. But they were crisp fresh and delicious, and salty. The calamari were fairly tender and freshly fried and salty as well. The star of the show, for me was the little shrimp dumpling. Encased in tender opaque skins, and packed with shrimp. I'd order those again. The sticky rice packets were filled with savory and seasoned ground meat, I think pork. Which i usually avoid, but I was committed. It was excellent ! I will return for another crack at the dim sum cart and this time I want to try the sweet side of the menu. Though I suppose I could always head to hmarts Paris baguettes for the custard pies, my favorite. No matter I will be back. Our service was spot on btw and the dining room began to fill after 1200. Came here on a Friday morning 3 day weekend and was fairly excited because I haven't been here in a while. I thought it might be good because there was a line of people waiting to get in. We ended up ordering the usual suspects Sticky rice Shu Mai BBQ Pork Buns Spare Pork Ribs Chicken Feet The food was not spectacular and the bbq buns tasted like they were pre frozen. It wasn't soft at all and I became pretty disappointed. We also did not see the fried turnip cake until we ordered it from our server. She was the saving grace as she was very nice and polite and attentive. When ever we asked for something we got it right away. Also the cart ladies are much nicer as well than the other dim sum place. The food was comparable with the other place as well. The place is large and mostly clean. It does get an oily smell as they are frying things in the open and you can see it. I do like they have fish tanks for the kids to look at the fresh fish and lobster. One thing to note is that it does seem a bit more expensive than the other dim sum place as well. It's hard to choose which dim sum place we should go to moving forward. read more

My mom requested dim sum for Mother's Day so that's exactly what we got. Mekong Palace is located inside Mekong Plaza. We made a reservation for Sunday dinner and were seated right away. The restaurant is casual and laidback. They were busy that evening, it took some time before they took our orders. However, once we ordered, the items came out pretty fast. Mekong Palace has a limited dim sum menu for dinner and no carts. We ordered almost everything on the limited menu, from shumai and har gow to spare rib and chicken feet. We also ordered a few items like fish maw soup, pan fried noodles, fried rice, and more from their standard menu. The items came out one after the other and were hot and fresh. Everything was pretty tasty. The dim sum and the pan fried noodles were the group favorites. The portions were great and we even took some leftovers. We would return! read more

Every time I've come here for dim sum it has been a very pleasant experience. This time I tried new things that I hadn't tried before. All of my pictures show the wonderful foods that we tried this time. I do not remember all of the names, but there was a custard tart, pork shu mai, scallion, pancakes, a turnip pastry, two types of pork buns, some delicious noodles and so much more. It was very cool to of course have the carts come by and you could see everything and pick what you wanted. It's such an authentic experience. With a literal 'desert' of dim sum options across the Phoenix community, it is nice that this location is available. They serve all your classic dim sum favorites to the even eclectic options (Tripe, chicken feet). They still take the traditional approach of pushing carts around. The one big differentiator is the service, the team here was very attentive and ensure that our glasses were always full. The prices are reasonable for the food quality and definitely work a try. Food Quality (3/5): the food was flavorful but some of the dishes came out like warm at best. Not sure if the steamers were working in the carts. There is ample variety as well. Service (4/5): we were greeted and sat quickly. They got waters and tea to the table and the waters were always filled. They don't do a good job of clearing your table though, so be mindful that your table may get a little cluttered. Price (4/5): The prices were average for this establishment. It was just a little over 30 per person for the three of us. Atmosphere (4/5): Nice and spacious and appeared to be clean. Now that I live closer to it, I can uber eats mekong palace dimsum (major privilege) and honestly it's one of my favorite things to eat on a Friday night. Recently tried their orange chicken because they had a buy 1 get 1 special and it was pretty good! Great when paired with the lo mein. I had a nice time here at Mekong Palace Dim Sum Chinese Restaurant. I came with a large group of mostly international students and was able to sample various dishes while here. Mekong Palace is a traditional Chinese restaurant that specializes in dim sum, BBQ, hot pots and other Hong Kong favorites. It is located inside Mekong Plaza, a community hub with shops and restaurants that is located in the heart of the Asian District in Mesa. Here at Mekong Palace they have both an all-day and dim sum menu. The menu is quite large. The food was already chosen for our large group and was served to us family-style. We started off with some hot tea. Food items that I got to try were Braised Tofu, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Steam BBQ Pork Buns, Peking Duck, Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp & Pork Dumplings. Everything was really delicious. The Peking Duck was amazing and I highly recommend it. Other items that I enjoyed were the Shrimp & Pork Dumplings and the Honey Walnut Shrimp. This place at best gets 3 stars, not the worst but just plain OK. While my family isn't Cantonese or from the area that makes dim sum, I have eaten dim sum since from my mother's womb and have also had great dim sum in Hong Kong, so trust me when I give my feedback on dim sum. We came here over a holiday weekend and there was a line to get a table, that's a good sign. I have been here a few times now and each time the experience has just been so-so. Service is always lackluster and doesn't seem to be a strength of this place. We ordered some of our favorite go-tos for dim sum including shrimp balls, shrimp crepes, Phoenix feet, radish cakes, and oily rice. One of the women pushing one of the carts, recommended stuffed tofu skin and we tried that also. The only stand outs for me were the Phoenix feet and stuffed tofu skin. I really liked the stuffed tofu skin as it also have bamboo shoots and mu erh, some of my favorite Chinese vegetables. The other dishes were all kind of disappointing for me. The oily rice was probably one of the worst ones I have eaten in a long time (I can make a better one). Radish cake tasted very dry and no sauce comes with it. The shrimp crepe also was bland and not tasty. We also could not get anyone to bring us ice waters as my mom needed to take her medicine and I had to get up and ask someone. Dinner date with the BFF and we wanted Asian food. We've been to Mekong Plaza several times, but have never tried this place. Well, tonight was the night! It had the vibe and feeling of a traditional Chinese restaurant. All of our food was freshly prepared and pretty good. It was our first time there, so tried a variety of items. Ever since moving to AZ, finding Asian grocery has been a struggle as there are a few and far between, but Mekong is the place you'd want to bring your family to if you're looking for some good Asian grocery AND eateries. It does get really crowded here on the weekends, especially if you're craving some good dim sum. The plaza has a lot of unique stores and offers some hot cakes on the weekends in the front. You'll find boba, sizzling dishes, pho and ramen here so it's a good hangout spot with friends and family if they're craving some Asian food. You will find most Asian grocery necessities here if you're looking for thai basil, pork belly and thin slices of meat for a cheap price. SOME items are a little on the pricey side but I can't complain some of these items are hard to find. read more

Great authentic dim sum! We weren't sure if getting dim sum in the middle of Arizona would be a good idea or something we'd regret, and we're glad we went! Came right after opening on a Saturday with a party of 7. Got seated right away and the carts were fresh, hot and ready to serve. Got our staples: shumai, har gao, BBQ baked buns, Chinese broccoli, and shrimp rice noodle. Also tried the shark fin dumplings and egg noodle in soy sauce. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious! The egg noodle dish comes around in a giant bowl on top of the cart and is also served in a huge portion, so be ready for that! We just wanted to try it and ended up with a full n bowl still at the end of our meal. Prices were very reasonable, to our pleasant surprise. We are used to dim sum prices in Los Angeles and Denver and this was great. Service was great. Carts came around frequently and cart staff was always quick but helpful. An efficient dim sum place is such a great option when you're already hungry and they had food in my belly fast. The staff working the carts were very friendly. There's always that cart that has the tiers and glass with multiple options, and the woman with that cart was great about telling us what the different options were. Shu mai - which I've had here before as you can get it at dinner - were delicious! Loved their sticky rice. It has some really tasty mushrooms inside along with the usual sausage etc. Their sesame balls are huge and really good! And the egg tarts were the best I've had. If you love dim sum, this place is really good for being in the valley. I believe Great Wall as the best dim sum but this is good enough because Great Wall can be far for some people. They have a lot of places to sit so you don't have to wait in line for to long even if there is a lot of people. They have a variety of dim sum dishes from steamed rice noodles to chicken feet to bbq pork buns; they have it all. You can also order from their real menu as well and their chow mein and chow fun is really good; it's not too salty and they give you a good portion of food. 10/10 recommend. read more

I went on a Sunday at 3:20 PM with my husband and son. The restaurant was almost completely empty, only two tables occupied, yet we stood around for about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us or seated us. A single dim sum cart came by, which was totally fine. We took a few items off the cart and placed one additional order, har gow (crystal shrimp dumplings). After 30 minutes, we asked about the order, still being made. At 45 minutes, we asked again, same answer. At 1 hour, with no food and no explanation, we asked for the check so we could leave. That's when things really went downhill. The female server and a man who appeared to be the boss (not in uniform) began shouting at each other in the middle of the restaurant about why our shrimp dumplings were missing. I said it was fine and that I just wanted to pay and leave, but they ignored that and continued yelling back and forth. The restaurant is huge and mostly empty, so the shouting echoed throughout the entire space. This was about 3-5 mins of just non-stop shouting at each other. A nearby table that arrived about 15 minutes after us also repeatedly complained during our wait about where their food was, with voices getting close to shouting as well. Eventually, after all the arguing, we were finally able to leave. At least the establishment was clean, I guess. But we'll never come back. read more

We want to start this off saying we LOVE Mekong Plaza. We have been here several times and always find something new, delicious, and fun. Yesterday was one of the WORST service and restaurant experiences we have ever had in our lives. Me and my wife go in, and get rushed by a line of people to a table, and almost immediately someone puts food on the table and starts cutting it without asking. We didn't have a chance to pull up the menu on the QR code before 3 carts of food we're rushing us to pick something, and we had to explain repeatedly we needed just a moment to look at options. They seemed very annoyed and inconvenienced by this. We got only got a few small things and asked for to-go boxes within 20 minutes of being there. They never refilled our waters, or checked in on us after swarming us. At checkout, our bill was $31 for some things we didn't even ask for. Rushed, rude, stressed and frantic experience and we will not return to Mekong Palace. The sea food tanks looked disgusting, dead crabs and fish inside and very murky as well. read more

The tripe was good and flavorful, but the noodles were pretty bland. The sticky rice we ordered was way too mushy and overcooked, that we barely even touched it. I've been to a few other dim sum places here in the Valley, but we always come back to Mekong Palace. We've had brunch here maybe 3x since I've moved here, but we've ordered take out MANY times. We typically will order twice a year and go all out. I've always enjoyed the quality, and just cannot get over how delicious their wontons and dumplings are. We ordered take out yesterday for lunch as our end of year meal before family comes in. It consisted of the delicious following: -chicken feet -spare ribs -shu mai -crystal shrimp -pan friend shrimp and leaks -pan fried crispy noodles with seafood -coconut cream buns -roasted duck We also sometime will get their wonton soup, which is so satisfying and rich! I've never met a dumpling here that I did not like, and I will probably continue ordering from here. If you do come here, be mindful that it gets VERY busy. Make sure you check-in with the hostess. We had a short family trip to Phoenix for New Year's Eve and the best brunch after a party always has to be dim sum. We ordered our meal for pickup so that we could bring it back to the hotel, and I knew it was going to be legit when we pulled up to a mini Chinatown. It just kept getting better because when we found the restaurant where we'd be picking up our order, it was a big open room with lazy Susans and tons of tables with Peking duck and pork belly on display to the left of the entrance--these kinds of dim sum restaurants are always ALWAYS the best. We were happy to see menu items that aren't common in Utah available at this location, such as taro buns and garlic and leek dumplings. We ordered a little bit of everything and everything was so, so good. I would love to make the trip down to Phoenix again just to eat here! read more

I ordered the ginger lobster hoping to treat my mom, but the lobster was rubbery and inedible. Other dishes were low quality and the meats were tough.
