I was looking for a small meal before climbing at steep rock, and I found this place on yelp. I loved the plates and pans dangling outside of the small cafe. When you initially walk in, there's music playing, a little louder than usual coffee shops - but that didnt bother me. I was greeted by a guy who seemed to give off this positive vibe, and it was great. I ordered the shakshuka platter and the serving size was perfect. It came with a tiny cup of hummus, some olives, and a pita bread. The pita was delicious! It was airy, chewy, warm, and everything else you'd expect in a good pita. The friendly guy suggested to dip the pita in the shakshuka and that's exactly what I did. The shakshuka was more on the sweeter size, but it was a nice flavorful hearty breakfast. Price wise, I thought it was a bit pricey ($14) for the platter but it's NYC haha. I also got a small cup of coffee and the coffee was pretty good as well - not watered down or too acidic tasting. We ordered Shaksuku Sandwich and Hummus Abu Sandwich and cappuccino on our way back from morning walk. They are really good, but the sandwich were a bit salty for our taste. I like Hummus Abu sandwich more between those two. Cappuccino is ok. read more

Super yummy find -- we went in on a Saturday around noon and the line was really short and we even found a table. Would definitely recommend eating in the restaurant -- it has a nice vibe. We got the shakshouka, avocado toast and hummus pita -- the hummus pita was okay but the others were really tasty, especially the avocado today. I'll be back for that and to try some of the other vegetarian options soon! P.S. they get 100 marks on presentation. read more

Middle eastern food served in a western styled establishment. Overall all this was a positive experience. I ordered a green shakshuka which I thought would be a traditional plated dish. It was served in a pita, but what was dismay at the sight of it, quickly turned to delight as I bit into the delicious sandwich. My only complaint is that the music was seriously loud. The tune was good, but the vibe was spoiled due to the volume. Would definitely go back to this cute little cafe in the UES. read more

I love this little cafe! It has a unique feel to it the moment you step in. I typically come here for juices and smoothies but today I stopped in for some breakfast. I ordered the smoked turkey which was super delicious. I'm not sure what was in it, but it was much more than just a simple sandwich. I'm definitely going to start coming here for food now too. The music was playing a little loudly this morning but they adjusted it and lowered it. The art on the wall is fun to look at as well! read more

If the name of this café didn't clue you in, then let me just tell you: Mellow Yellow has just the vibe you need in a city that never stops moving. It's carefree, warm, and inviting. You feel right at home as soon as you walk in and there's just something about the place that makes you want to linger. Whether you want to grab a coffee or more importantly, some shakshuka, definitely give Mellow Yellow a try. I can't recommend it enough. read more

Stepped into this place for my first Saturday off in a while and I came out incredibly satisfied. I ordered the Shakshouka and I must say it was delicious. It came with fresh Pita bread, two delectable pastes I couldn't quite identify - perhaps Baba Ghanoush and a Tomato-altered Hummus - as well as an orange slice and a tiny clump of sweet nuts, some type of Baklava-like dessert. Every aspect of my meal felt refined, all items delicate, flavorful, and light. I enjoyed it so much I feel I would not be doing myself justice if I didn't go back within the week. The space is small but the ambiance is great, the decoration on par, and the sweet friendly nonchalance of the staff is just icing on the cake. read more

JUST LOVE THIS hidden gem. For sure, one of my favorite spots on the UES. Absolutely yummy! I always get the sandwich Abu Rapha (Abo Rafa) and either a matcha or chai tea...my true heaven. I had guests in town from New Zealand and picked up several items for breakfast and lunch and everyone was happy. Such a sweet vibe...positive and considerate local cafe. ENJOY! read more

I'm so glad I found this place. As I was eating it I was already thinking of the next time I could go back for it. The atmosphere was nice and pleasant. The iced coffee I got was smooth and refreshing. The Jerusalem bagel was life changing. I got it to go so everything was put separately into a bowl so it traveled really well and everything was fresh when I got back to my room. You can tell the owner puts his heart into creating these dishes. Amazing. No review will do it justice you just have to try for yourself! read more

Nothing is mellow In this vibrant sun-kissed cafe of yellow I can't find the right words to strike the perfect balance between the stunning vibrancy of the food & decor, mixed with a relaxed, easy-going and incredibly attentive staff. At first I thought mellow yellow would be soft and sleepy and slow. Like a soothing pastel pale yellow... but the yellow is big and bold like bright, hot saturday morning summer sunshine that bursts into your day, unabashedly. Yah. Like that. This place is simple yet commands your attention. The seats are small and sparse but beautiful and unique. The warm food menu is limited but perfected. The juice & smoothie offerings are straight forward but SO fresh and flavorful... It would seem this place is just another unassuming cute cafe tucked away in some quirky residential tiny spot of the city... and it is... but it is also so much more. What I really want to highlight is the kindness, the graciousness, the efficiency, and the refreshing professionalism of the staff. We had ordered 2 hot meals not realizing they came adorned with nuts and one of us has a deathly nut allergy. The staff didn't hesitate to cook another meal fresh, free of charge, instantly and without any argument. They didn't owe us a new meal and certainly didn't need to prioritize us, but they did. Additionally, I have gluten troubles and the chef overheard and went out of his way to modify my meal and run downstairs to offer me corn chips instead of pita. And on the topic of gluten free... get the coconut gluten-free muffin... it is so wonderful... it tasted like coconut corn bread heaven in my mouth! I can't say enough great things about this place. Check it out but do yourself a favor and visit outside of the typical rush meal times. read more

Great coffee and delicious food. Nir has brought a gem to the Upper East side and given us a taste of Israeli, Moroccan, and Middle Eastern food. I am hesitant to buy coffee, but I love going to Mellow Yellow. Nir is friendly, kind, and professional. Nir is everything you want in a small business. I'm grateful I discovered his coffee shop and looking forward to many years of supporting his business. Personal favorites are the iced chai latte, greek frappe, and any of his borekas. read more

This place is so great, it's startling. 1. Coffee - better than any coffee shop in the area. And while everyone loves cold brew, it's easy to get wrong, punishing the drinker with concentrate or bitterness. Their iced coffee is smooth and flavorful. 2. Tea - I'm drinking it right now. Moroccan iced tea w a slice of fresh ginger. My coffee blood level is usually 4.5%, and I am obsessed with coffee. I once made my grandmother late a celebration for my uncle because I detoured the trip to get a latte. Not one of my prouder moments. And yet, Mellow Yellow's tea is so perfect, so sweetened without being sweetened, with lime and fresh mint...never had a better iced tea. 3. Shakshuka - this is the gold standard. To make it the way they do, so fresh and light, with a side of hummus, olives, and pillow-fluffy pita...damn, son. 4. Tunisian tuna sandwich - this is seriously a WTF-how-is-this-so-good sandwich. Some kind of evil alchemical genius blend of tuna, spices, some other spices, and some sauce, plus fresh herbs. Maybe this is how they make tuna sandwiches in Tunisia, but I've never seen anything even close. 5. Hummus, eggplant and egg pita - it's the perfect pita. I'm meat-obsessed, and this vegetarian sandwich converts me into a vegetarian. For the duration of time it takes me to eat it, of course. 6. Pastries - they have these perfect small coffee cakes - regular, blueberry, and salted caramel. They are the perfect size. Zero guilt in eating them, it's like all the taste you want in a coffee cake, without the self-delusion that you'll work it off later at the gym. And if you really are going to the gym, they have croissants, danishes, etc. I don't know the owners. But these guys have made the perfect coffee shop, and their food is amazing. In a world of over-promise and under-deliver, it's great to see a place which is so so much better than it needs to be. read more

I love this spot so much. Starting from the owner - Nir. He's one of the nicest, most welcoming people I've met. He truly embodies the Israeli hospitality. The cafe is homey, cozy, and really does have excellent vibes. Nir even let me DJ a few songs during Sunday morning breakfast. The food is also all fantastic. I've come back multiple times and have tried pretty much everything on the menu: pita zataar, Jerusalem bagel, borrekas etc. You can't go wrong. And the coffee. Ooh the coffee. Their mocha latte is perfect. I will keep coming back. read more

What an amazing place...my family and I were in the neighborhood running errands and got hungry...I Yelped restaurants and found Mellow Yellow...highly rated...the food was AMAZING and the staff extremely friendly and courteous. I ordered the Shakshuka...BY FAR the best I ever had...with pita that was absolutely amazing..not your run-of-the-mill store bought pita. We also order the hummus platter...again...the best we have ever had...creamy...perfectly seasoned...with the same pita. Our third dish was a cheese filled turnover (don't remember the name, sorry)....just amazing.....great coffee too and a lemon/mint slushy to die for. Oh, yeah, we had two chocolate rugelach...absolutely decadent!!! We will be back..I am still dreaming about the shakshuka!!!!!! read more

Yes you've got delicious coffee and you've got great vibes here, just has the name indicated. As one of the few Turkish places in the city, Mellow Yellow does have lots of special drinks to choose from - El Salvador being the most famous one. Even if you only asked for a cup of cappuccino, there was always an option of adding butter and chocolate at the bottom! They've also got some light savory dishes if you are looking for something to feed your hunger. A new great add into UES! read more

This is my favorite casual breakfast/brunch place in UES. Get the moussaka or shakshuka, you will not regret it! The coffee and iced teas are also really good. You can tell that they use fresh ingredients from the the open kitchen style. There is not much seating so the place easily gets packed. It's ideal for 1-2 people, certainly not groups. read more

Mellow Yellow is a new and *dope* cafe on the UES! I've been here a few times now and it is now officially a spot that I will frequent 1-2 times a week. First off - you walk in and immediately sense that they care about the environment and the culture of Turkish coffee. The place really does have cool vibes and they always have traditional Turkish/Mediterranean music playing in the background. In addition to that, the manager and staff are very friendly and they're always cleaning and making sure the business is very clean & presentable. Secondly, they care deeply about their menu and their ingredients. They're always trying and introducing new products that enhance the experience and the culture. Beyond traditional Turkish coffee (which is really good, but it's made-to-order and takes about 5-6 minutes or so), they have a light food menu (sandwiches and such), pastries, and other types of drinks and coffees. Lastly (and HUGE for me), they have really good wifi which is great since I work remote and I'm always looking for great places to work from that don't inhibit the internet speed I need. All in all, if you're in the hood you've got to stop by Mellow Yellow! read more

Small, quite and relaxing place. Good food and service. The menu is diverse and original above all. The recipes I believe are homemade, very tasty, delightful dishes. I had for the second time an avocado toast and I don't regret it !the service is fast and the employees are very sweet, will make sure you enjoy either your stay or go, but with guaranteed satisfaction. The first day I came they mixed up my order and it was a bit delayed, they apologize at heart, they tried to make it up somehow, I got a sandwich and a juice for me a my friend, even tho we already ordered, no need , but it was very thoughtful. The environment is very relaxing along with the decoration and the ambience music, makes you don't want to leave. If I would've leave in the neighborhood I would come here everyday, either for coffee or just to wind out. What would make it perfect is a bathroom which they don't have :/ Pretty much recommended. read more

This place was amazing. It was honestly my favorite (and my husband's!) spot I found in NY on my visit. The manager, Nir, was so hospitable and recommended the Shakahuka and Jerusalem Bagels. Both were amazingggg, so much so that we had to come back a second time during our visit! The coffee was spot on too and the ambiance was super cozy, you could stay there for hours! Food [4/5] - This place exhibits some fairly unique takes on Mediterranean cuisine - namely, you can get a sandwich with virtually any variety of ingredients inside. The one I got was mostly composed of hummus and a few sauces, which made for a tasty, if slightly messy, dish. The sandwiches my friends got looks equally scrumptious as well. Service [4/5] - The staff was nice, and I always appreciate it when restaurants have self-serve water since I tend to drink a lot of it. Ambiance [5/5] - This place has a fantastic hippie, free-spirited vibe. The decorations are colorful, and the restaurant is small enough to feel incredibly homey. Value [3/5] - The prices were as you'd expect in NY, with entrees in the $10-15 range. However, by the nature of Mediterranean food, I finished my meal still wanting for more. read more

This is my favorite new coffee place in the neighborhood. The drinks are good, damn good. With a true italian barista, how could they be anything short of amazing? I'm a big fan of the espresso mocha in particular. I have to say, I don't even like tea, and I'm in love with their moroccan tea! It's filled with cut lemons, fresh ginger slices, and herbs. It'll warm you up on a cold day, or get the iced version and it's extremely refreshing on a hot day!! This is the perfect place to bring a book, or a friend, and sit and relax over a few cups of coffee for a few hours. The vibe inside truly is mellow and everyone that works there is friendly and helpful. If you're in the area I highly recommend popping in. Note that this probably isn't the place to come if you have a larger group as there's limited seating. read more

Mellow Yellow is one of those spots that's so great that you almost don't want to tell people about it because it's so lovely and unique and you don't want everyone to know about it. But here I am. GO TO THIS PLACE. It's cozy, and the food is absolutely delicious. Like the kind of food that makes you close your eyes and deeply appreciate what you're eating because it's that good. The people that work here are lovely and the environment is super cozy. If you're in the Upper East Side, go here. Eat here. Hang out here. Mellow Yellow's ambiance is something you rarely find in New York and it is definitely a gem. It's calm and comforting and they have authentic food and the staff are absolute sweethearts. I tried the Shakshuka and Hummus Plate, which were a filling lunch for two. They also have a wide variety of coffees and teas, plus specialty drinks which are much better than any coffee chain. read more

Came here on a hot day for some hot Shakshuka and hot coffee with mild air conditioning inside...you'd think my level of grouchiness would spike but the charm and the service of this place snapped me right out of it. One of the few places in the UES that does a Shakshuka and does it well. They do run out on busy days - I went around 1pm and a party of 6 came in afterwards and they weren't all able to get it. I wouldn't say this is a brunch go-to destination though, so don't expect their charm to fill that void. This is a small coffee shop that happens to serve breakfast until 2pm - it's a chill spot to get your work done or quick stop in for a sit-down-and-ponder-life's-mysteries-for-30-minutes kind of place. read more
