What a cool place and not to mention the food is really good. We had the avocado bacon melt, the classic grilled cheese, tomato soup and Parmesan garlic fries. None of which disappointed. The service was top notch as well. Everything was made to order fresh. The ambiance is cool with all of the lite signs, tons of seating and very clean! Definitely a must try spot if in the area. Oh yeah and their sodas have REAL cane sugar NO high fructose corn syrup.
This is a hidden gem! Ice cream in a bar setting which is awesome because it's open late but the bar was quite busy when we went so waited a bit. Regardless, the wait was worth it because my butter beer ice cream was delicious and the container was cute!
A great place to stop for a sweet treat. I always love the flavor options Melt has. The service is quick and samples are encouraged! I went with the cherry chip and I loved every bite! Definitely stop here if you're in need of dessert in the downtown area :)
Stopped in this location nestled inside Jobot coffee & bar. There weren't a ton of flavor options that excited me so I opted for a double scoop with butter pecan and vanilla bean-- you can't go wrong with either! I appreciate how they place the scoops in a take out box with a fortune cookie.
tl;dr expect a whimsical spin on artisanal ice cream at this nested scoop shop Despite Phoenix's wide array of frozen dessert offerings, Melt has carved out a niche, unconventional brand of artisanal ice cream. The operation is tucked away inside Jobot Coffee & Bar, itself smack-dab at a busy downtown intersection off Roosevelt. The space is industrial and slightly grungy. Barebone lighting structures and exposed ductwork hang from the high, dark ceilings. Concrete extends from the unpolished floors to the structural columns. A desert sunset mural runs parallel to the long, green LED-lit bar, with the ice cream display at the far end. Patrons are posted up at assorted tables and mismatched seating, each armed with some combination of coffee, ice cream, and draught beer. Classic and contemporary hip-hop echoes around the space. A friend and I swung by Melt to satisfy a wicked weekend ice cream hankering. Unable to find a list of flavors beforehand, we were surprised and pleased upon arriving that most fell on the adventurous side. Of note, Melt only offers a single size (3 scoops of only a single flavor), so we opted for 2 orders to mix and match. After a few samples, we decided on the Mexican Elote and Cochito y Cafe. Our scoops were served in Melt's signature fashion: within a Chinese takeout box and decked with a fortune cookie topper. As a whole, the ice cream was mildly gritty and intensely flavorful without hiding behind an overly sweet facade. The elote scoops had plentiful kernels of corn, with flavors contrasted by a hint of chile. Meanwhile, the coffee 'scream was heavily spiced like a chai, with gingersnap cookie chunks mixed throughout. Service was friendly and helpful, and each takeout box (probably a half-pint of ice cream) ran a hair under $8. While I've had better and cheaper ice cream, Melt's commitment to its offbeat brand was a fun experience worthy of a visit. In the future, I definitely could see myself returning for food and a brew to pair with the funky flavors.
Stopped in for coffee and breakfast on this cute street full of eateries. Unfortunately they weren't serving food as the chef was out but they did have donuts. And the barista was very apologetic and sweet we totally understood. The interior is nice and would be great for a date or catch up over some beer or coffee. The Americano was excellent. Super aromatic and tasted fantastic. It was cold and rainy and this was the perfect pick me up.
Was looking for a place to take my kids for ice cream and did not research enough. This is actually ice cream being served in a bar. They have a full dj and everything. It's pretty cool inside! The flavor options were plenty but they were close to being out of a few of them. We got vegan blueberry, a peanut brittle option, chocolate, and pink Cookie Monster. All flavors were yummy and the lady at the counter was super sweet! The ice cream was served in little Chinese food to go containers. I think they ran out because my friend got his in a cup.
I have quite a sweet tooth so when we were walking around for first Friday on Roosevelt row, we search for a place to have dessert and this was the first spot to pop up. It's a very unique spot. You walk in and it's darker inside for that chill vibe, good music and to the left there's a display of odd in animate objects which would be an interesting IG post! To the right after you order your ice cream are a some spots to sit at if you don't want to walk around eating ice cream. Love the creativity of how the ice cream is placed in a Chinese to go box. Sometimes I get pulled in just from the packaging and this won me! The best part is that the ice cream itself was flavorful and they give heaping amounts of it! Totally shareable but if you can eat a pint of ice cream, you can have your own! You can combine flavors too! Give it a shot if your around this area and you won't be disappointed!
Funky little ice cream shop in downtown Phoenix. They serve their ice cream in a Chinese takeout box with a fortune cookie. They had a decent amount of choices of hard ice cream, probably around 8. I ended up picking matcha, but they had the classics like chocolate, ice cream, mint, etc. it didn't seem like much in the way of fancy choices or toppings. But the price was very reasonable and the ambiance instead was nice - it was really eccentric, dimly lit. Not too busy and a nice place to grab a scoop after some drinks!
A fun find on visit to city and hidden gem inside a local dive bar. Solid variety of flavors and seasonal favorites served w/ some fun, inviting charm - we turned down the tattoo offer that evening. Haha! Worth the exploratory stop when in town.
Definitely time for an updated review and pleased to say it's just as fantastic as ever. What was once a free standing shop it is now located inside Jobot and has been for quite some time. Service was awesome and I was able to try a few samples before deciding on the fog and goat cheese with cherry. Some of you may think that doesn't sound great, but everything worked so well together. The cherries were perfect, not over sweet and a whole and the ice cream so smooth. The containers they put the ice cream in only adds to the fun. The vibe is great and music choice on point! So fun!
Pro-tip: They don't let you do half scoops/two flavors per scoop even though you kind of get two scoops worth when you order one scoop anyways. Highlights: The ice cream is really good especially the fig and cornbread flavor. They usually have a good rotation of flavors, sometimes they are sickly sweet though so it's nice if they allow samples but I think they haven't been recently due to COVID. They do offer flights which is always a win in my book. Lowlights: It's pretty pricy, but the portion is generous which is why I think they charge so much. I do wish they would just lower their prices and give a smaller scoop or allow you to order two flavors within your single scoop order.
Great place for some ice cream on a hot day. They had some really interesting flavors. We tried the peach basil but it was a little exotic and too basil-y for my tastes. Ended up with the mango sorbet and strawberry ice cream. The strawberry was fine but the mango was amazing! It had tiny pieces of mango which were just the right level of sweetness and had a nice texture.

Looking for ice cream in the area, came across Melt. We got the monster cookie which had multiple types of cookie chunks in it. Came in a cute Chinese take out box topped with a fortune cookie. Pretty basic with no additional options for topping for $7. Don't recommend if you are just looking for ice cream. read more
This place had good ambience and solid service. I got a small size and chose two different flavors. Both are really good and came with a fortune cookie on top. I can't say it was the best ice cream I've had which is why I put four instead of five stars. The flavors did not come through as much as I'd like. It also came in the Chinese takeout box it makes for a great photo and a unique ice cream experience for sure. They also have seating inside for my group of friends to bond over our ice cream. Pricing was fair and I had enough ice cream to satisfy me. read more
Such a great little spot to enjoy ice cream out on their lit up patio. I wanted to show my mom and brother how Phoenix does ice cream and glad I brought them here. Ended up enjoying our Lemongrass Poppyseed and Fruity Pebbles ice cream out front at 11pm in the warm, Phoenix night. The place served up quick ice cream scoops and amused my family with their Chinese take-out boxes and fortune cookie garnish. The ice cream was creamy, had spot on flavors and Melt's patio is lovely. They serve up candies and other kinds of snacks here as well. Street parking is easy and there's a couple of great places nearby like Jobot and Songbird Cafe. read more
Overly expensive ice cream. This place is a bit hard to find because there's a large MUNCHIES sign but nothing significant that says Melt. They didn't allow me to get a mini scoop in the waffle cone because 'the cone is too big for the scoop.' So what? What if I like a lot of waffle? We got the Cookie Monster and the Mint flavors, both of which tasted watered down. Melt is an appropriate name for this establishment because that's exactly what I allowed my ice cream to do after the first bite. read more

Independent stores are cool, and I always want to support them, but it's hard to do that when they aren't on par with the large chain places. First off, the service here was great! The guy at the counter was friendly and cool. Now for the icecream - it was regular, nothing special. Looking at the display case, nothing unusual or particularly tempting called out to me, so I ordered a half scoop of cookies and cream with a half scoop of dark chocolate. It was yummy, but icecream is always yummy. I wanted that something more that would make this place worth returning to, and I didn't find it. Ways this place could improve - offer more toppings. Most of the toppings they offered were chocolate covered in a hard candy shell (M&Ms and Reese pieces) or gummy bears, which I hate in icecream bc they get extremely hard. I would like to see offered as toppings: fudge, caramel syrup, crushed oreos, crushed reese's, cookie dough, brownie, cake... Or if you're not going to offer more toppings, then at least put more chunks of "stuff" into your icecream, and not just have the straight up plain flavors with nothing in there to add texture and interest. read more
I love ice cream places that serve unique flavors. This was it. And they serve them in Chinese take-out cartons with a fortune cookie! They had flavors like Trix, banana pudding, lucky charms, etc. but their flavors are rotating so you might not see the same that I did! Go here. There are tables and chairs outside. read more
It was a bit hard to find at first. Melt is not it's own shop. The ice cream shop is in another restaurant and just a small portion with not a whole lot of flavors to choose from. Definitely nothing too special. Good for pics. Ice cream was creamy, but wish they had more options to choose from. read more

After a hot, long hike in the red mountains, ice cream is the perfect pick-me-up. I tried the Fruity Pebble, and it came in a cute little Chinese take-out container with a fortune cookie. No reason, just because it can. I LOVE the unique flavors Melt has to offer. Will certainly return to see what they will come up with next! read more
One night after a big dinner, friends and I stopped by this place and gave them a try. The hardest part is finding a parking spot, since the downtown area can be quite hard to navigate. Melt was quite small and overall quite clean. Unfortunately no public loo for me to try. And I was ready!!! The dairy products helped too....Jk We got a scope of cute-cumber which was very refreshing, even the neighborhood kitty thought so. And a scope of Cookie Monster which my friends thought was the perfect amount of sweetness and chewiness from the cookie and stuff. And the blue colour was amazing. Overall a great and fantastic little place, and we highly recommend you come here today. And the cat does too, she's hangry!! read more

First time being back after they moved to their current location inside Jobot coffee. I got the biscoff ice cream and really liked it but I didn't really care for the other flavors I sampled. Not that many places have biscoff flavored ice cream so that's great they have it but that's probably the only thing I would order there hence the 4 stars. read more

This place has a few vegan options and unique flavors for their dairy ice cream options. It's located in an open, trendy space that's shared with a bar and coffee shop. I like the large space and ample seating. It's a little loud, so I would not use this as a study spot unless you like noisy areas. The only downside is the location might be hard to find because it's inside a larger area. read more
All I have so stay is that the blueberry muffin ice cream is glorious! It tasted exactly like a freshly baked buttery blueberry muffin. It's the perfect amount of sweet with a non-artifical blueberry flavor. I paired it this time with the cookie doh because I had to compromise with someone else since we were sharing. Next time, I will be pairing it with the oatmeal cookie. The oatmeal cookie sample I had was really good, not as good as the blueberry muffin but still good. It was a mild oatmeal cookie flavor it would have gone nicely with the blueberry muffin. The cookie doh one that I did get was aight. It was kinda boring in comparison to the blueberry and I don't know if I honestly would have liked it any better alone. In it's defense, I'm not a huge cookie dough fan. I also sampled the pumpkin ice cream. It's not the best I've had but it was decent. I thought the bluemoon flavor they had was beer flavored it was not lol my friend never told me what was smashed up inside it but it was not beer haha The ice cream comes in a stereotypical Chinese food container and is topped with a fortune cookie (I love it when places have a special signature). I didn't get a chance to ask why. They also sell Mexican tostilocos that I never tried before but plan to try at some point (here or somewhere else). Not sure what the theme is here.. The outdoor seating is super cute especially at night. I would say that this place would make a nice little date spot for sure. read more

Cute ice cream shop on the same street as MADE. I went by at 3:40pm and realized they don't open until 4:00pm (yikes!) so I walked around (and stumbled upon the gem that is MADE Boutique on the corner) and then came back to Melt. There was a girl working inside. She wasn't too happy when I asked permission to sample some of their flavors but she still let me. There wasnt a single one I didn't like. I decided on a "Double"; 1 scoop of the Chai and 1 scoop of the Chocolate Wasted. What I wanted was a milkshake ($7) but they didnt have any coffee ice cream and that is what I was craving. I'm glad they didnt have it because my ice cream combo was the bomb. The Double is $6 and is served in a Chinese take-out box, topped with a fortune cookie. read more
I really appreciate the staff. They're very patient since I am so indecisive with picking out ice cream flavors all the time. I always sample all of them! I did like the beer flavored (Guinness stout) ice cream and the fruity pebbles flavored ice cream as well. I would give the ice cream 4/5. The idea of the ice cream in the Chinese take out box with the fortune cookies are cute. The service and atmosphere 5/5. read more
I enjoy Melt, they always have at least one or two dairy free options but occasionally they have an employee or two who you can tell, just wants to go home & rushes thru the entire interaction. I live near melt, it's walking distance from my house, but I still seek out Novel over Melt most days of the week. When novel is closed, I'll go to melt. They have excellent flavor options but again, the service always leaves me feeling blah. Last night the service was appalling. I get it, it's Sunday night but every single employee was either rude, rushing us, or just generally unhappy to be there. The vibe was off. The employee gave my boyfriend a very small double scoop portion, only to give me almost twice as much when we ordered the same double scoop box. No "iconic" fortune cookies for either of us & again, the service was just terrible this time. They basically threw the change down on the counter & basically then they ran to take out all the trash before we finished our ice cream, thus leaving the trash cans with no trash liners in them, so I took our trash HOME to throw away because I'm not a jerk....... but they acted like they were closing up shop at 9pm, literally sweeping us out of the place. It was weird. Prices are ok, but with service being so off, it makes it almost not worth it. I wish they would also bring back the CBD option. I bragged so much about them having this option only for it to disappear every time I want to try it. This place is so inconsistent, but they do have great flavor combos. read more

I'm a huge Melt fan! I remember when it opened & I've been coming here ever since. It's not your typical ice cream spot. True to the downtown vibe, it's inside what used to be a house. The decor is fun & playful. The ice cream is phenomenal! They described it as "artisan-crafted" & they use local high quality ingredients as much as possible. The flavor selection is always extremely unique. Things like Fruity Pebbles & Blueberry Muffin. Tonight, I got Peach & it was so flavorful & full of peach chunks! Oh, & it's served in a take out box, garnished with a fortune cookie! read more
This place won my heart instantly just based on the crazy flavors they had available! Thankfully the staff were super friendly and helpful and allowed us to sample basically everything. Hubby took the last of the Lucky Charms and got it in milkshake form. Honestly, this ended up being my choice. The ice cream on its own was incredible. And somehow the milkshake retained that magical flavor and didn't taste watered down at all. I ended up with two generous scoops - one of coco puffs and one of birthday cake. They were both awesome, for sure. But that Lucky Charms is what really got me! read more
Stumbled across this spot walking through downtown Phoenix one evening. The staff there was very helpful with answering questions about flavors and let you have samples. And o boy! Items Selected: Samples - Drunk'n Nut, Arizona Sunrise, Wine n' Cheese Single Churro Single White Chocolate Raazz with Sprinkles Triple - Cap'n Crunch, Drunk'n Nut, Twisted Delight No doubt playing the Instagram-era plating game by way of Chinese take-out containers complete with Cookie, Central City's Melt takes Phoenicians on a flavor-trip by way of housemade Ice Cream with a texture somewhere between hand-dipped and soft serve presented by clerks who try entirely too hard to be funny. Located in a converted former-home on 5th Street, this odd style of makeshift dining space familiar to locals but a bit disconcerting to visitors given signage posted along a low fence, those entering Melt are immediately bombarded by high decibels of Punk and bad puns paired to samples, a limit of three almost a point of pride even when the shop was otherwise uncrowded. Trying to make conversation about the product, flavors like "Arizona Sunrise" that are not especially obvious described with a snarky response before finally yielding "like a Creamsicle" it was with small tastes of savory Wine n' Cheese plus a riff on Humphry Slocombe's "Secret Breakfast" that decisions were made, though not before the young man chastised one in the party for adding Sprinkles that "taste like chalk." Getting past the service, or lack thereof, including an unwillingness to sell a friend less than a full pound of Chamoy Gummy Bears, further tastes of Melt confirmed a semi-soft texture quite unlike most modern-day Artisans while flavors trended sweet yet not "sugary," the Churro essentially just Vanilla with a bit of Cinnamon while White Chocolate Razz was even milder, and thus quite different from the yeasty Cereal Milk flavored Cap'n Crunch or "Twisted Delight" of Strawberries and Balsamic. read more
Phoenix is so hot!!!! Omg lol We were exploring downtown Phoenix and craved an ice cream, we found this place (on yelp of course) and decided to check it out. The shop is in a street with houses turned into businesses and has a really cute little patio out front. Walking in we were greeted and the ice cream looked so delicious. They have flavors I've never seen or heard of before and customers are allowed 3 samples of their choice. I ordered cucumber which I definitely recommend, but you have to try the mangonada flavor!!!! it was so delicious and satisfying and it cooled me off! The ice cream is scooped into a little Chinese take out box and a fortune cookie. I thought it was the cutest thing ever! Next time I'm in Phoenix and craving ice cream I will definitely be visiting this place again. The only thing I didn't like is that we had to sit outside because there is no space or table to sit inside, but the ice cream was good enough to overlook that. read more
4 star average? Are you nuts? I had to pick up my mom from the airport and had to hang around Phoenix for a bit before her flight. I was craving some ice cream so I decided to stop by here. It had good Yelp reviews and was near where I was at. Um.....kind of wish I had gone somewhere else! I walked up to the converted house and there were about 5 people in front of me. This place is TINY! You can only fit about 3 people comfortably in the place. There is only one guy working in the joint so it took a little bit to serve the other people. While waiting, I noticed that some of the ice cream looked a little melted and not normal. The lady in front of me tried to order a scoop of pistachio and the guy let her know that it wasn't available. He took a spoon and showed her how he couldn't scoop it out. Turns out that the heater (not sure if it was the heater in the place, or the heater in the ice cream cooler) was permanently on and they couldn't turn it off? WTF is that? Truly lived up to the "Melt" name. Anyways......placed my order for one scoop of Nutter Butter, one scoop Little Debbie, and one scoop Cookie Wasted. Paid the man my $6.25, he scooped my ice cream (to his credit, he did hook me up with pretty large scoops) into a Chinese takeout container, added a fortune cookie on top and I was on my way. Here is how it was, flavor by flavor.............. Nutter Butter- Tasted like the peanut butter cookies. The ice cream was really, really soft though (due to the heater issue) and a bit icy. Not sure if it could have been better more hard or what, but I was not that impressed. It tasted and reminded me of the ice cream I can make at home in my Cuisinart mixer. Decent but not great. Little Debbie- Um...couldn't differentiate the taste of this and the Nutter Butter really. Peanuty ish like those little wafer bars, but same texture and taste. The mix ins were skimp, too. Cookie Wasted- Vanilla base with oreos and chips ahoy cookies. Once again, soft, icy and the mix ins were skimp. This flavor was the best of the bunch, but even then, it was just average. First impressions are very important. I was not impressed at all with the quality of ice cream. I can make stuff at home that is better than this. The shop is too small, the ice cream too expensive, and the ambiance is a little too "hipster" for my liking. I don't think I will ever return. Ice cream is like pizza..it's never really "bad", but this is definitely 2 star worthy and there are plenty other good ice cream shops located in Phoenix. Meh! read more

I loooooove Melt!!! It is such a fun and classic downtown Phoenix spot and an absolute can't miss on first Fridays! What's great about melt is their selection of flavors - it's ever-changing and totally takes advantage of seasonal produce. My favorite is the Cookie Monster, which is a blue cookie batter ice cream with Oreos, mills wafers, and chips ahoy! Their sorbets are also delicious - I love the lavender strawberry when they have it! Today I got the green tea, which was new to me but probably one of the best flavors I've had there. You can get your scoop in a cute Chinese takeout box complete with a fortune cookie, or on a come (sometimes they can even shape it into a flower!) They have other toppings as well. They also have candies and other snacks so be sure to bring your sweet tooth and your appetite when you stop by! read more

Now this is what I would call good ice cream that is unique and stands out about the rest! The shop is located around the Roosevelt Row artsy section of downtown Phoenix. The store front is small and nothing fancy, but they have a nice outdoor seating area. My husband had the PB and J and I had the Cookie Monster (blue colored vanilla ice cream with Oreo and chocolate chip cookie chunks). They offer many other unique and delicious looking flavors such as honey lavender and fruity pebbles. They also feature more traditional flavors as well and rotate them out regularly so the selection doesn't get old. I highly recommend trying this place out if you are in the area. This is hands down THE best ice cream I have tried since moving to the Phoenix area. read more

I wanted ice cream for lunch while passing through AZ and 111 degrees by noon. Phoenix was the next town so I laid my money and time down on finding The Melt. I passed by a place that looked like a bar or restaurant but figured maybe The Melt was inside? Anyway, it was a bit confusing to enter a bar type atmosphere at noon thinking "ice cream parlor...?" but forged forward towards the counter and there was a small ice cream case with nirvana inside. The flavors were fascinating and I settled upon Thai tea and fig/mascarpone and it was served in a take out Chinese carton with a fortune cookie on top! Fun and yes folks worth getting off the highway for! A nice gal named either Erica or Tanya (I am old and my memory is like a sieve) was quite helpful and cheery which of course was what you want when ordering ice cream. The price was a bit high for my liking (just under $8) but it really was good. So go bougie or go home when it comes to these more gourmet experiences. Hats off to you which is what happened to me next as I headed down this great street full of cool shops. I literally bought a hat. I hope you have as much flavor and shopping fun as I did by stopping in to cool off at The Melt. read more
It's good, more A-OK, than "great!" I wouldn't drive out of my way for it. Yeah!: nice selection of flavors of ice cream, sorbet... But : some of the "ice creams" tasted really "thin" (not rich, creamy) Yeah!: she let us sample a good number of flavors But: having sampled a good number, there aren't many that I was keen on Yeah!: the one I did enjoy and order...I was tired of by the end of the single scoop (too sweet) - I'm speaking of the salted caramel. The other flavor that stuck out was the cucumber sorbet and it is just a huge burst of cucumber. But: Overload of flavor for me. (except for the white chocolate chip raspberry seemed done right) Yeah!: locally made (Superstition Farms) But: flavors will vary so if you loved it last time, try a sample before ordering again Yeah!: cute to-go Chinese food containers with fortune cookie But: large spoon relative to container size; also note there's up charge for a cone Yeah!: kind of a cute front porch, but this the block itself is a bit hit and miss on appearance. I get it that it's "converted homes" and "artsy" and such; I just may not be this cool. But: once inside, it feels unfinished. I don't know if this was because I could see into back rooms (supply room? or something) it just didn't cut it for me.
