I'm not a huge fan of either scrambled eggs or tofu, but I went for the tofu option -- and it was so perfectly done -- the texture, the flavor, everything. Weeks later, I'm still craving this. For lunch, I've tried the ATLT sandwich. The tempeh was done well, and the srriacha mayo was delicious. The vegetarian chili is the best. The staff were all super nice and attentive. I had high hopes. Those were totally dashed with the first bites of food. The hummus was watery and lacking significant flavor. The macaroni seemed to be missing the strong blue cheese that was supposed to be included. The buffalo cauliflower was large and boring. For a great version go to harvest. Ignore this item from melt. Had the roast beef sandwich and red skin potatoes. The meat was super tough and dull. It's like they're afraid of flavor or something. I just can't imagine giving them another chance. :( read more

Melt has been on my list for more than a year and 1 trip to this place does not justify the experience. The reason being, entire menu is so interesting you want to try everything. On my visit I tried the chicken verde sandwich with side of red skin potatoes(which you can check out in the pictures). It is one of the best sandwiches I have had. Maybe it's because the way it's prepared on a flatbread. The potatoes were delicious as well, soft and each potato wedge well seasoned. I stopped in here for lunch with my family after spending the morning at the zoo. It's about 7 minutes from there. I love trying new places and a friend told me it was a healthier restaurant. We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive. We ordered the kids grilled cheese sandwiches, I ordered the pad Thai wrap and hubby ordered the avocado wrap. When the grilled cheese came out, my kids were perplexed that it had white cheese. When the server came to check on us, my 5 year old blurted that he wanted yellow cheese. I told her it was fine, but she insisted on having a yellow cheese sandwich made. It was really sweet and above and beyond. My kids enjoyed the chips and fruit, but they struggled with the sourdough bread on the grilled cheese because it was very chewy and tougher, which is the nature of sourdough. I tried it and it was delicious. However, I would recommend using a different bread that is easier for kids to eat. My pad thai wrap was delicious and I had it with the yummy vegan chili. I tried the avocado wrap too and it was good. Everything was fresh and excellent. I would definitely go here again and recommend it to anyone. It was a great experience! read more

This is my first visit in the new location. And although it is not as eclectic & charming as the original location it does nod to its roots in the use of reclaimed doors & other materials. The menu is more extensive & very gratifying! The buffalo Mac & cheese is a highlight! My stand by favorite the artichoke melt is just as creamy & delicious a ever. I tried this place for the first time yesterday with my work buddy. It was a pretty quick lunch, but I'm impressed, and I will be back! The place is really nice on the inside, very cozy yet modern. The color scheme is lots of cool calming blues and greens. Everything is very clean and bright. We came in and we're greeted instantly by a friendly gentleman. He was very accommodating when my coworker asked for a bigger table for her portfolio. He also took our orders and brought us our food. He was very polite and attentive. I like the menu size, it wasn't too fussy, but you still had great choices. I'm in love with their side choices btw! Side of hummus and chips, yes please!! Their cocktails sounded so good, but I sadly could not partake as I was working! Next time I come I'm definitely getting a fizzy whatever it was with the tequila. The food is so fresh and very good. I got the Pad Thai wrap with tofu and a side of red pepper hummus and tortilla chips. I don't think I've ever had a better hummus. It was light and fresh and the perfect balance of flavors. The new space is much larger and comfortable than the former location but does lack the personality and charm and the really cool back patio. There are a few outdoor tables but its right by the busy intersection and bus stop so it's not an ideal scenario. Price wise, I'd say it is on par with most restaurants. The food quality was fine, nothing superior or exemplary, and the sandwich I had was ok and my wife's chili I sampled was good. Overall, I would go back but I am not going to make it a priority. The drink menu looked really nice so maybe I will have something form that next time. read more

We tried out their brunch last week because I was having a hankering for biscuits and gravy, and as a vegan that's hard to come by. It's time to give Melt a try once again. First it got bought out. Then, it reopened in The Gantry. The prices went up. They got a liquor license. And I went once. $12 for a sandwich? The grossest non-cheesy Mac n Cheese ever. And that was the first week. They went downhill fast. Constantly ran out of ingredients and was basically a giant shitshow. And then they got sold BACK to a Northside couple who have worked hard bringing it back up to par. It's not all the same menu. They don't quite have as many choices for breads, proteins etc but they seem to be working on a much more sustainable cost-wise menu. I'm still not super pleased that it's table service and not just order at the counter casual. But service was super great. I ordered my fav, the Rachel. But I don't like rye bread or turkey. So I asked for my usual pre-Gantry Melt substitution of chicken and sourdough. No sourdough bread but he suggested gluten free or flat bread. I got the flat bread. Great decision! It was the cheesiest, gooiest Rachel I've ever had. AND they have potatoes with curry ketchup back on the menu. The ketchup could use a tad more curry but YUM. My husband had the pad thai wrap, chips and salsa. As a former Tacocracy obsessive, he found the salsa to have a nice kick and reminded him of their salsa. No desserts for us but they sure did look tasty. Prices are around $11-12 for sandwich and a side but this time, we left full and happy! As Northsiders, we are so happy to have this restaurant back in rotation. read more

I placed an order today which included chili. When I got home, there was no chili in the bag. There was soup instead. I called the restaurant to let them know and spoke to a manager who told me that it's nothing the restaurant can do, that I'd need to contact doordash. If the restaurant forgot to give me an item, why would I need to contact doordash? I haven't been here in a while and this will definitely be my last time. I didn't receive good customer service today. Never tell a customer that there's nothing you can do when what you did was forget to put an item in their bag which they paid for. Not happy. read more

I have to admit, the food at Melt was pretty darn good but are they deserving of the current 4.5 star average? HELLS NO! Why you ask? The SLOW SERVICE really sucked. We ordered our food, then sat and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited. So we patiently sat and waited some more, trying very hard to calm our growling stomachs. After another 10 minutes passed, our food finally arrived. Although there was a decent amount of people when we ordered our food at about 2:30pm, it wasn't busy to the point where it would justify waiting almost an hour for our food! And not once did someone stop by to ask 'how are things?' or say 'sorry for the wait'. If you're looking for fresh & tasty food, and have a lot of time on your hands and don't care about crappy service, then I would give it a try. Noticed on their menu they have a lot of vegetarian and even vegan offerings. Below is a quick review of the items our party had: Melted Sammies: ~ Tangy Tuna (tuna salad along with red onions, celery, tomato, Swiss cheese & lime cilantro dressing on sourdough) - The tuna salad was very good but the bread was so hard. Could've chipped a tooth if bitten at the wrong angle. ~ Tuscan Chicken (chicken, pesto, caramelized onion, sundried tomato & fresh romaine lettuce on focaccia) - This was very flavorful and my favorite of the 3 I tried. ~ Rachel (turkey, ruby kraut, Swiss cheese with a homemade tangy sauce on sourdough rye) - Not bad but not something I'd consider ordering again. Yes, yes, and yes. This is one of those delicious vegetarian restaurants that should teach a class on taste. So many wonderfully delicious and flavorful items to choose from. I have eaten here several times and each time I am reminded that I should return. I typically go for brunch and I have to say: The biscuits and gravy are divine and the vegetarian huevos rancheros and southwest hash are ahhhhhhmazing. Yes, I really enjoy the food. The missing fifth star is because the whole set up of the restaurant is a little too haphazard hipster. The seating inside is small, tight, and just awkward. Like, sit outside the bathroom door or get bumped in the back of your chair by the person trying to climb into their own booth behind you tight. If the weather is nice, always opt for the back patio. But, once you commit to being outside and get your food, enjoy never seeing a waiter....ever...seriously. They are moving into what looks to be an ample space a little further down the road from their current location, so I look forward to seeing more space, and possibly a fifth star in the future! read more

Melt is the definition of hipster awesomeness. We love to come here, and don't get to do it nearly often enough. Funky, eclectic, organic, whatever-you-like, with lots of options, that's Melt. The vibe is chilled out and mellow, despite having a good crowd during our visits. The space is colorful, small, and broken up a bit, with dining in the front, in the hall, in the back, or on the patio. They'll also bring your food to you next door at Northside Tavern. I've always had friendly service here, both from the counter and kitchen folks about ingredients, substitutions, etc. So. Orders are taken at the counter. They give you a themed number card (Three's Company for us this time.) Iced Earl Grey tea? Mmm... Their appetizers are huge - we ordered a Mediterranean platter and I could have eaten that as a meal (and likely will next time we're back) - the pesto toast was delish and I'm a big fan of their white-people hummus (Google that, it's a thing). A tofu wrap with peanut sauce for me and a turkey wrap for the spouse - both tasted great and again, huge portions. We took half of our order home. Prices are super-reasonable, too.
