When I'm craving a good breakfast, I make sure to come here for their Southern Eggs Benedict (pro tip: get it with their pulled pork.... mouthwatering deliciousness!) Service was great! I give 3 stars because it was highly recommend, but i really didn't care for my food at all. Cool atmosphere, the staff was friendly, all was fine but the food. I had the pulled pork sandwich. I would Not recommend that. Other people in my party mostly had breakfast and they enjoyed it. Amy had the po-boy sandwich and said it was okay with bad bread. Popped in for lunch and the overwhelming impression was that it was OK. I've known about it for ages, but just never managed to stop by. The place was smaller than I was expecting, and, odd. The interior was cramped and the patio sparse. It was almost like they were trying for the trailer park diner experience. I've had almost half of the items on the menu, and my favorite always seems to be the Southwest Eggs Benedict. You could never go wrong with that. The way that the sauce mixes with the corned beef and egg - WOW! This time today, we ordered Beets and Arugula Salad, Crawfish Omelette, Gumbo, and House Salad. This was the perfect amount of food for a satisfying lunch that would make you feel so happy. Not too heavy, not light at all. The service here was awesome! After a very bad experience at Habana our party of 5 left there and called Memphis and they took us immediately. The service was wonderful. The waitress was helpful and very nice. The food was excellent. I had the buttermilk fried chicken which was very juicy and tasty. The chocolate chocolate cake was excellent too. Very cute Old Fashion cafe. Outside there are tables that is desert styled themed. Came here for brunch and it was definitely good vibes and food! Service: Our server Honey was so sweet and nice!! Placed an order over the phone. Staff was ok. Not too welcoming but also not rude. Was told the wait was 15 minutes. Picked up food in about 20 minutes. I ordered Gumbo and a fried shrimp po boy. The Gumbo was....... Interesting. Not your classic gumbo taste but they tried. Consistency was a bit thicker than I would've preferred. The Shrimp po boy was pretty cold and a bit wet and soggy. The paper box container with no ventilation probably contributed to that. I spent $32 in total. Would I return? No. read more

I need to go here again, the first time I went was burger week and I LOVED it. I loved it so much I picked it for my birthday lunch at work. Folks, it gets down to the real nitty gritty when you only allow yourself one cheat meal a week. So, we came here for this Saturday's cheat meal... and we're sadly disappointed with the choice we made. I think all the photos from our fellow Yelpers tricked us this time around. Everything seems to look much better than it tasted. We ordered the gumbo (3/5 stars), Soul Burger (3/5 stars), shoestring fries (1/5 stars), Mac n Cheese (2/5 stars), and the fried chicken (0/5 stars) plate that came with mashed potatoes (3/5 stars) and collard greens (3/5 stars). Based on the scoring above, you'll notice the fried chicken came in last place. The texture was completely off, I got scared and thought maybe what if this isn't cooked all the way through? But it was hard to tell cause of the dimmed lighting inside. It was also lacking flavor. The reason for the two stars, one for the super friendly staff and the other for the Burger that was at least decent to me, but not the best Burger I've ever had. The worst part is all the items we ordered were the main "must try" items, so why bother trying anything else. so i think memphis is 4 because some things they make are very 4+ but some other dishes have been a small let down i like the collard greens; solid and otherwise hard to come by. fried okra -- really delicious, and a must order any time we visit. grits, solid, much better than your average diner. gumbo: very good, with just enough spice to make me want to order it every time i come as well if i recall correctly the fried chicken is to die for and a big reason why my friends continue to come here time and time again. that said, this time we ventured off some and unfortunately pork chop and po boy was a bit too dry to be truly satisfying still insanely busy, i'm sure you'll find something you like here, if not love thanks for the great food! see you again soon read more

We took a quick glance over the menu and decided to spilt the Crawfish Etouffee Omelet, which was basically scrambled eggs with cheese inside topped off with the crawfish gravy and a side of black eyed peas, rice and sausage. The eggs were lacking flavor and reminded me of the egg batter that is outside of a chile relleno, and to me it would've been better with the gravy inside as well as on top. Came here for a friend's birthday and as a vegetarian, there aren't too many options..BUT what I did get was amazing. The food my friends got were all nicely played and a good portion. They have Louisiana hot sauce. I saw some vegetarian options like salad, but I ended up ordering a make your own omelette on their brunch menu for around 13. The price seems steep for a 3 egg omelette, but I was pleasantly surprised. I got spinach, avocado, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes. You can choose 4 toppings. The avocado is 1/2 an avocado put on top. What was special was 1. The egg tasted great. They did something to it that made it taste extra rich and the texture was firm and not soggy. 2. The mushrooms are not white button mushrooms. They are forest mushrooms and marinated! The omelette came is a side of ketchup and some potato pancakes (lumps of mashed potato fried into crispy cakes). That was also delicious. The service is also great. Shrimp tacos= Salty, lightly battered, crispy, mildly spicy, well seasoned. This is my favorite of the 3 specialty entrees that we tried. I added a few drops of Red Rooster hot sauce for an extra oomph and a kick. I highly recommend. Crab cakes= disappointing as they were underwhelming. I see plenty of crab meat but I don't taste any. I have always been going to Costa Mesa to visit friends and I have always parked on the street next to the Memphis Cafe. More often than not, this place is bustling with plenty of road traffic and sometimes a line. Because of its location, I always assumed Memphis was a dance club of sorts and I could have not been more wrong. Memphis Cafe is a tasteful little restaurant that caters to brunch and late nights in the bustling part of Costa Mesa. The floor itself is on the smaller side which makes it pretty packed fairly easy. The parking lot doesn't do justice either by having compact spots and streetside parking but the service is worth it and the drinks fantastic! I am not a very sociable person at bars since I enjoy drinking and people watching or just relaxing, however the bartending staff here was incredibly friendly and knew their drinks. My favorite seasonal cocktail was the Fallen Tree. I can see myself coming back here! read more

I was really looking forward to going here again since we haven't been back in 7years. First the service was ok. The food and drink were the problems. I initially got an Arnold Palmer and it had a weird manure after taste. Thankfully, I was able to change it but it just spirals downward. I order the beet and goat's cheese salad with a side of grilled chicken. For a salad that cost $25 it was the worst salad I have ever had! First no taste on mountain of bland arugula covered in oil. Then a really dry dry piece of chicken. I thought they would at least season the beets but no. Since the salad was blah at best I had some of the pulled pork sandwich and again everything was under sauced unsalted. It was also very warm yesterday and we were seating in the back patio area. We had another friend who ordered the club sandwich and she just picked at it and tore it apart to eat the ok parts. I don't remember it being so bad. Okay so I've been to Memphis before and had a great experience but, hello? Brunch? On a SATURDAY when everyone else is doing Sunday? Yeah. I'm in. 100% The in house Bloody Mary mix is fantastic - making it superior to a lot in the area (hate an overpowering mix) I had the traditional egg breakfast and the bacon was super crispy, the potato cake was perfectly cooked and the chives were a nice compliment. Probably my favorite breakfast spot! It does get crowded after about 9am on weekends I recommend making reservations through yelp. The parking usually gets crowded after that time but they do have you valet. Food- they have a lot of options to choose from my favorite is the first item on the menu which is the 2 egg breakfast. The servings are really filling and the food tastes really authentic and fresh. The inside is very dark and a bar like ambiance (they actually do have a bar) and outside it's more brunch vibes.
