I attended a business event and had a meal there. I will not return there for my own dinner! Food: 1/10 stars. Appetizers (pretty much everything on the menu ordered) and bottles of wine: Nothing special. Did not taste great but was not bad. I cannot find a reason to complain nor praise. 1) DAY BOAT SCALLOPS eggplant caponata. polenta fritter. sweet pepper coulis for $43. There were 3 pieces of scallops on the plate. It was salty but tasteless. The polenta fritter was dry. The presentation was beautiful but the taste was C-. Although there was so little food on the plate, I managed to leave the food on the plate since it did not taste good. I had better scallop dinner than this before. For the price and the fanciness of the ambiance, I expected much more but throughly disappointed. 2) CAJUN PRAWN FETTUCCINE roasted garlic. basil. grana padano. My guest said the noodle was over cooked, soggy and the cream sauce was too much. He left more than half untouched on his plate. 3) HERITAGE PORK CHOP gorgonzola stone ground grits. fig compote. ninja radish My other guest pushed the food around trying to find something to eat. He ate half the plate saying that the grits were too soggy and gooey. The food was too sweet with fig compote dumped everywhere, the pork pieces were too fatty and the quantity of the meat was so little. It was supposed to be "pork chops" but no meat, just few pieces of fat sliced fancy. He could not find anything decent on the plate to eat and left most of the food on the plate. Dessert: 1/10 stars. The portion was sickening too much. There are "appealing-generous portion" and there are "overwhelming sickening portion" that takes away your appetite. It was later. I had apple bread pudding. Upon arrival, I felt overwhelmed with the amount I had two bites of a very blend bite and I left the rest. Could not even take it to go since it had so much ice cream and apple compote and was too soggy to eat past two bites. I ordered after dinner tea. It was lukewarm colored water. There were too much quantity of lukewarm water for not enough tea bags so no taste. My guests had ice cream. Fancy presentation, fun theme with lots of toppings but the portion was sickening too much. They had just few bites but was too overwhelmed with the quantity to finish it. Service: 10/10 stars Amazing. Attention to detail, perfect for business setting, maybe that alone is a reason to go for an awful tasting over price meal? The place is lovely but they are just off in a few details. The biggest issue is their music in the patio. If you see their website, it looks very nice. All pictures have an acoustic guitar and give an impression of a folksy, mellow music that is fitting with the restaurant's setting. However, we got to experience a rock band that played Guns 'n Roses, AC/DC, LED Zeppelin and Billy Idol while we were trying to enjoy a family dinner conversation. It was just wrong. Then the service was just lacking. Making a reservation through their automated phone system didn't work and I had to go in person to do it. The lamb chops we ordered medium rare and they came medium well to well done. We were a large party and were split across two adjacent tables and by the time the second table got their food, the first table was done. I had to order the check three times before it came. Then the check had five instances of the same dish but one of the instances had a slightly higher price than the other four. All in all not terrible but it has the potential to be great and yet they are shooting themselves in the foot for lack of attention to detail. read more

I went to Menlo Tavern for dinner. This place is in the lobby of the hotel. When you are in there, it feels homey. The downside is about once an hour the Caltrain noise echoes through the dining room. There's live music in the evenings as well. The appetizers were good. I did enjoy their flatbread and would recommend for sharing with friends. The salad was okay. They literally dress a head of lettuce and add a poached egg and bacon on it. It was somewhat hard to eat since you are cutting the leaves off the salad then causing the salad dressing to fling places. Service was also quite slow. Given that there weren't that many tables. We went to Menlo Tavern for Father's Day. It had a very nice ambiance out on the patio, with live music - a great vibe for a summer evening. The food was good - the capicola flatbread was amazing (highly recommend). We also ordered the truffle fries which were good, the tomato soup which my mom loved, the kale salad which was decent, the chicken breast which was cooked well and flavorful, and the short ribs which my brother enjoyed, but I thought was okay. The wine selection was great though! Unfortunately there were not many vegetarian options on the menu, and they weren't super flexible with that, which was the only downside. Overall, this restaurant's main attraction to me was the ambiance, and would recommend if you are in the mood for a nice outdoor vibe. read more

We had dinner at the Tavern recently and, while there were a couple of high points, they were unfortunately few and far between. Overall I have to say we would not go back. There were three of us, and we agreed on that. We ordered drinks and the Tavern fries to start. First of all, I have never written a Yelp review before about a wine serving, but I have to say that when you order a $17 glass of Sauvignon Blanc, you don't expect a miniscule pour (see photo). It bothered me enough that I spoke to our server about it. The fries were tasty, and the horseradish sauce was an interesting accompaniment. Needless to say, it took me no time at all to finish my wine. When I ordered a second glass - another $17 - I suggested that the pour might be improved and it was. My friend also ordered that wine and again I suggested to the waiter ( Carlos) that the pour be decent and it was. For dinner two of us had the pork and one had the roast chicken. While the sauce on the pork was rated excellent, the meat was dry and slightly overcooked. The chicken was a generous portion and was tasty, but nothing very special about it. Two sad carrots -maybe three - and some fingerling potatoes that were too squishy for me. The green beans with the pork, however, were excellent. The Apple crisp was a success and the vanilla ice cream was delicious. Ironically, the espresso was huge -- we all laughed and decided if they would have switched the wine for the espresso, I would have been fine! Our waiter was fine - I think he could have handled my complaint far better, but his service was good overall. Ambiance is not anything g special for the restaurant, although the bar area and outside patio are attractive. Over $200 for dinner (part of which was my responsibility since I ordered expensive wine but the Manhattan was also $15, which is expensive compared to other restaurants. Before the pandemic this was an overpriced OK restaurant. The menu never changed, and I even threw up in the bathroom once over some epically awful fish and chips. But we decided to give Menlo Tavern a try post-pandemic. The difference is night and day. The menu had fresh seasonal items. In fact, they were even out of one item because the chef wasn't happy with the quality. The flavors were bright, and each one of the dishes at the table was some of the best food we've eaten in a long time. The presentation was really delightful. Nothing like the old boring plates. The server said they managed to hire the chef from the old Mayfield Bakery at Town & Country. I loved that restaurant, and that quality shines in the new Menlo Tavern. Tonight I had dinner at Menlo Park Tavern with a dear friend of mine and I wanted to share our experience. Roque Medina, Director or GM greeted us when we checked in at the outdoor seating area with a friendly smile and a very professional demeanor and appearance. Our server, Osbaldo was excellent. From the moment we sat down until we left he was very attentive, informative, and an excellent listener. The food was outstanding. I ordered Pasta with Salmon and it was cooked to perfection and the avocado toast appetizer is fantastic. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. They are consistent, the outdoor eating area is low key, family oriented, but also romantic and classy. Great job team! The management rushes customers out customers after they advertise late hours. We came due to a miscalculation of other restaurant hours.

On vacation with family, everyone said try this restaurant sad to say it was a big mistake. Butternut soup was watery like someone put water in it place it in the microwave oven. order lamb it was the worst burnt over cooked. Before the pandemic, this was one of my favorite places for breakfast. The menu was simple but everything was so delicious! They stopped serving breakfast for about two years but recently reopened so we made a reservation for Easter brunch today. Such a fiasco! We had a special request for one of my kids who prefers scrambled egg whites. The waiter had to check with the kitchen to make sure that would be possible. She also wanted root vegetables with her eggs and we were told that wouldn't be possible because they don't have any but I pointed out that another item on the menu included "root vegetables" as one of the sides so the waiter went back to the kitchen with that information and returned to say that she would be able to have them. I had the Tavern breakfast and asked for an English muffin but was told they don't have any. I pointed out that eggs Benedict was on the menu and that's usually made with an English muffin but I was told they were making it with a crumpet instead. OK... Even though the restaurant was only about 20% occupied, it took 45 minutes for us to get our food. They brought food for three of us but didn't have my daughter's scrambled egg whites so that took another 10 minutes so most of us were finished eating before she got her food. They brought my husband's pancakes but no syrup so he had to wait a while to get that. My breakfast was supposed to include potatoes but I didn't notice until we left that I didn't have potatoes on my plate. The breakfast sausage they served tasted like dinner sausage so I didn't eat it. The bacon was kind of weird so I didn't eat that either. I am definitely NOT picky about my bacon! I don't think I've ever not eaten my bacon but their bacon was weird. In the end, our order consisted of one order of pancakes, Eggs Benedict, scrambled egg whites with a side of carrots, two over medium eggs with one sausage patty and two slices of bacon, an apple juice, a coffee, and a Diet Coke and the price was $180. read more

We had a delightful Christmas dinner here. The prime rib was wonderfully tender--one of the best I've ever had--and came with an au juice as well as horseradish sauce. The accompanying creamed spinach had a nice texture to it--not cooked into mushiness. My salmon had a thin veneer of crispiness, with a nice, moist inside. How do they do that?! I only wish the brussels sprouts had been blackened. Bread is extra--but served nice and warm with a salted butter. We were too full to have much dessert, but the warm cookie was big enough to split. We stayed at the Stanford Park Hotel while my husband was in Palo Alto for work back in September. During the trip, we went for dinner once, I went for breakfast once, and we visited the bar a few times, and had a great experience each visit. My first visit was for breakfast, and it was fantastic. The service was excellent, and they didn't make me feel awkward at all about being alone. Everything looked amazing so I asked for a recommendation. The crab cakes benedict did NOT disappoint. The eggs were poached perfectly, I loved the crab cakes (nice and crispy, plenty of crab and not heavy on the breading) and the crumpets they were served on were to die for. My cappuccino was delicious- I never came back for a full breakfast, but I definitely had a cappuccino in the courtyard every day. We went together for dinner, and it didn't disappoint. The bruschetta appetizer was yummy, with grilled sourdough for the bread. My husband had the seafood louis salad, and really enjoyed it. It was huge, with generous portions of seafood and avocado, and a nice dressing. They had a cioppino that I couldn't resist, and it was one of the best things I ate on the trip. The wine list is excellent and varied, and we enjoyed the mixed drinks, too. I can't comment on the price, as I suffered from sticker shock the whole time I was in Silicon Valley, but I'm very glad I went not once but twice. If you're staying in the hotel I 100% recommend it, but it's a good choice if you're a local or staying elsewhere, too. read more

Was told by some friends that they redid the restaurant in the Stanford Park Hotel and thought we would check it out. I am loving the new look and feel. Our server was adorable and very attentive. The hostess was so welcoming and sweet - she went out of her way to greet us at the door as we left the restaurant. Everything we had needed a liiiiiittle more flavor. It's nice and cozy inside especially on a cold rainy winter night. But the food is only OK. The best thing was the hot artichoke dip. I don't really give that so much credit because it's not difficult to make (just ask Costco, haha). The deviled eggs were not good. We didn't even finish the mac and cheese which is truly shocking in our friend group! The fries were good but really, how much of an accomplishment is that? The setup in the hotel's courtyard -- featuring live music -- is the best part of going to eat there...sadly, the food isn't. We started with an order of the Tavern Fries - breaded deep-fried potato wedges which weren't bad, but their regular fries are MUCH better. I had the Tavern Burger with avocado; pricey and good, but not great -- for a $25 burger (not including tip/tax/fair wage upcharge), I expect great. This seemed like just a premade patty on a processed bun. My wife ordered the sea bass. It was over salted and had that "fishy" smell that fish isn't supposed to have. We should have sent the fish back. What was really unfortunate, our waiter served my burger first and then left. I assumed he was going to get the sea bass. However, my wife's entre didn't arrive for another 20 minutes. Seems to me that serving a table's entrees at the same time is kind of restaurant 101. Not wanting me to eat a cold $25 burger, my wife insisted that I eat it while it was still hot. So, we went out for a dinner together but ended up eating separately. $150 dinner included one martini and a lemonade...not worth it. read more

I had the best breakfast/brunch dish here I've had in several years: the grain bowl with tiny cubes of bacon, red quinoa, kale, poached eggs, and crunchy wheat berries was balanced, wholesome, perfectly salty, yet fatty and unctuous. I spent half the meal with my hands covering my bowl so my dining companion wouldn't steal it all. It's a lovely spot inside the Stanford park hotel. Mid century modern meets cozy cottage. Loved the decor and was blown away by my dish. I can't speak to the rest of the dishes or meals here. read more
