This review is for the quality of food that we got. Yesterday was our first time to visit the Mercado store (we have been a loyal customer for other Northgate Market locations though). The overall service and ambience was great and we had a good time. We didn't see our favorite corn bread anywhere, so we asked their staff when checking out. The staff somehow found one, and we happily took it home. After having eaten almost half of the corn bread, we found one mold spot on the cake. Then we inspected the rest of the cake, it has multiple moldy spots! We then checked the label- The cake was made on 2/26 and is expiring on 3/3 (today). Even though it was one day before the expiration date, the cake was already molded with sticky texture. We were really concerned about the quality of the food, especially the cake was shared with one of the family members who just did a surgery 5 days ago. She has been drinking soups and porridges, and yesterday was the first day that we allowed her to eat her "favorite corn cake". We then called the customer service. The lady simply said "Sorry for the inconvenience. You can stop by the store and we can find you another cake or something as replacement". We expressed that this is not "inconvenience", but more of food safety that we're worried about. We don't want another cake or the $7.99 refund. Disappointed on how they treated this matter. To my surprise, the worker provided me with the smallest 1oz container of salsa--something that would typically suffice for one tamale, but certainly not for seven. When I inquired if this was the only salsa included, she confirmed and mentioned that I would need to purchase a larger portion if I wanted more. While I understand the workers are simply following store policy, this is totally out of the norm and quite disappointing. This store, which is new to the area, has usually been excellent with samples and customer service, so this was unexpected. I don't expect this type of service from Northgate, especially given the store's reputation and the glowing reviews it's received on social media. As someone who has been a loyal customer, spending thousands of dollars here over countless visits, this experience makes me seriously question whether I'll be returning. For food, we grabbed some fish tacos from one vendor and a chicken tamale from another. It was a bit busy for a weekday, especially around the seating area, but we managed to snag a table. It was a warm day, so most people were avoiding the outdoor patio. Before heading out, I made sure to grab a churro from El Moro to-go. I was really disappointed with my experience at Carnitas Don Miguel inside Northgate Gonzalez Market. The women taking orders were rude and unprofessional. I stood there watching them talk for over 10 minutes while my order was just sitting on the counter. When I finally walked up and asked if it was mine, they just looked at me and silently packed it into a bag -- no apology, no acknowledgment, nothing. On top of the poor service, the food was honestly underwhelming and not very good. The market itself was also extremely crowded, which made the whole experience even more frustrating. This chain is already known for being on the pricey side, but the cost of the food and drinks still surprised me. The quality of the food and drinks was mediocre, which made the high prices even harder to justify. For example, they charged $40 for a bottle of Tito's vodka, which I later found for $27 at Vons.
