Unfortunately, I have to lower my score. Charleston Bagel used to be a go to for me every Saturday before work. Hadn't been in a while so decided to go on my day off. Their prices have really gone up, and the quality of food just doesn't justify downtown Charleston price tags. $5.50 for a watered down "cold brew," and about $10 for a sausage egg and cheese on toast... which they up charged me $1.09 to switch it from a biscuit to toast they likely got at Aldi or Teeter After taxes this was slightly over $19. I don't see that they stock the Charleston City Paper anymore, which is something I used to look forward to reading in their worn in cozy space. I'd rather make this breakfast sandwich at home for 1/4 the price and the same quality. read more

Yes. They were busy on Sunday morning but there are like 10 people working the back. Bacon was barely cooked. Asiago-jalapeño bagels was almost a Thomas' bagged bagel. More stale than toasted. My first time here. Got a poppy seed bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It's hard to find a good poppy seed bagel or find them at all unless at a bagel shop and it's not guaranteed even then. They did have them and it was good. Not the best I've had but their strawberry cream cheese was out of this world. Great balance and flavorful. Service was quick n efficient. Place was clean. There's not a ton of bagel spots in Mount Pleasant, and this is certainly the best of the few! My husband and I love CBC. His go-to is "The Angler," aka an everything bagel with lox. I love the BEC and the SEC, to which I always add cream cheese. They have great cold brew, easy parking, and though they can get super busy, the staff all hustle and my food never takes unreasonably long. The staff was not friendly and lacked personality. The sandwich I had, the Irish Rueben, was lackluster. I asked for it to be toasted. It came warm.. including the tomato and lettuce (no slaw which is an ingredient according to the menu). The amount of meet was enough for a half bagel. It had three thin slices of meat! Last minute call in order at 7am. I 20 bagels and cream cheese. After being passed around to a couple of people, finally got hold of someone and: no problem. Pickup in an hour, all good. They had a nice mix of bagels ready to go along with the cream cheese. Only issue I had was no plates. They had knives, forks, and spoons on the self serve area, but no disposable plates. Off to Harris Teeter to get plates... Also, no bulk meat options. Ie: smoked salmon, pastrami, etc to go along with it. Picked up some smoked salmon etc at the Harris Teeter next door and made an impromptu tray for my event. Bagels, very good. Fresh and chewy. Definitely would buy again as an individual but not the best take out catering option if you're feeding a small to medium group. We ordered two breakfast bagel sandwiches. We felt that while the bagels were not bad, they were nothing to write home about. They were very bready, missing the elusive chewiness texture and the malty taste of a good bagel. We also felt that the fillings were a little light and overwhelmed by the bagels themselves--could be personal preference though. Finally, the shop has added an additional .59 cent charge to every order for 'rising costs.' We stopped on over for breakfast one morning. I had the Boston Mel on an everything bagel. Everything bagels are by far my favorite kind of bagels. This one had way more flavor than any of those store bought varieties that come in plastic. However, when comparing to other fresh baked bagels I've tried from other bagel shops, this one was heavy on the sea salt. The corn beef had a high quality taste and was very flavorful. The pairing of the savory corned beef and the egg made for a hearty breakfast sandwich. We took some bagels to go. Unfortunately, they were really hard by next morning. It's filled the vacuum concerning a decent bagel place in Mount pleasant. They're quite busy, especially early breakfast. I usually call in my order as I leave my house and it's ready by the time I arrive. They have a variety of things to choose from (bagel sandwiches, desserts, variety of cream cheeses, granolas). Piping hot coffee with daily selections like "pecan delight" or "southern roast". On top of all these goodies they also offer an immediate discount when you pay for your order in cash! The Charleston Bagel Company is a terrific choice for a no-fuss breakfast (or lunch) if you live in, work in/near, or, are shopping in Belle Hall Station, as I was, a few weeks ago. It was late morning. I spotted CBC as I was walking to my car after leaving Petsmart ... and with 'food' on my mind ... I decided to check it out. I immediately liked its curb appeal ... convenient location at the end of a strip, ample parking ... and lots of umbrella'd outdoor seating. After taking a few moments to review the well priced Breakfast menu selections, including, but not limited to, scrambles, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes and specials I opted for a Western Omelette ($5.49), a double toasted everything bagel with a shmear of veggie cream cheese ($2.42) and a cup of the locally roasted King Bean coffee, medium roast. As my visit was during an 'off hour' my order was taken quickly at the point of sale by a very friendly cashier and 'up' at the counter, ready for my pickup, in minutes. I had my choice of seating. As a former New Yorker, I've come to terms that no bagel outside the Big Apple measures up to a 'real' New York bagel (sure, I've had few that have come close) but since the 'bagel' portion of CBC's menu does not make reference to that great city, I was OK with its everything-topped product and satisfied with the texture and amount of cream cheese, served on the side. (Note: The menu selection comes with an order of toast; however, I chose to up-charge for the bagel and the cream cheese.) My coffee was piping hot and fresh tasting. My omelette was nicely filled with diced ham, peppers, tomatoes, onions and American cheese and topped with an extra helping of these ingredients. Frankly, It was not remarkable; however, it was tasty. I've been back several times since my first visit and pleased that the customer service and quality of my selection(s) has been consistent ... and, that's a good thing. read more

Unlike all the places downtown with overinflated prices and mediocre bagels, Charleston Bagel continues to set the standard with taste, price, and service.
