My daughter has been looking for the perfect noodles with a distinct flavor she used to get at a favorite restaurant at our old base. Well after 4 restaurants she found it here! Happened to be traveling through the area and needed someplace other then fast food to eat. Popped open yelp and lookups through to see if there was someplace fresh and tasty to fuel our travel weary bodies. And lo what did we find? None other then Mercy Thai! And glad we where when we did. Little while in the wall joint, but of course those are some of the best gems to be found. The place looked to be run by three guys and those three clearly knew what they where doing. We had several dishes, from curry to pad Thai all of which was delicious, fresh, and authentic. Needless to say it was a well worth stop to get some great Thai food. A group of us had dinner at mercy tonight. I've ordered multiple times on skip the dish. I recommend coming in because the fresh served to you off the stove taste tops delivery food. All the flavor of our dishes were amazing and authentic. Things can run on the spicier side then typical. So if you're normally a mild level 5 choose a level 3 or 4. I ordered the boat noodle soup and the others ordered the Tom yum knook. We all shared the fried rice balls. The portion size is generous and the value of of each was fair. Some of the worst Thai food we have ever had. We were so disappointed given how positive of a rating they gave on Yelp. I cannot reconcile the rating they have and the quality of food we received. We ordered Pad See Ew with pork and yellow curry. As an appetizer, we had the crab Rangoon, which was the best part of the meal. The pad see ew was shameful. The noodles were so wide, long, and thick, you needed to cut them into bite size pieces. It resembled Italian pasta more than Thai. I've never had Thai noodles so thick and gummy. There was almost no meat. The yellow curry had almost no chicken or flavor. I know yellow curry is pretty mild, but it had the consistency and flavor of water. I really am scratching my head trying to understand how this restaurant has 4.5 stars when it was probably the worst a Thai food I've ever had. I don't think the smile ever left his face. The order took about 10 minutes and he actually apologized that it was late which I didn't think so. It's a small place so be aware of that. I've been a fan of Thai food ever since having the pleasure of visiting Thailand. I ordered the pineapple fried rice with tofu. I was quite pleased with my meal. The only issue was that most of the food we ordered to include the fried pork meatballs, red curry, and So Moo Swa wasn't packed with a lot of flavor. This little spot, while tucked in an unassuming strip mall, was a true delight. The decor was simple, clean and cute - cobalt blue walls and a "tiki bar" focal point. Our server was wonderfully pleasant and upbeat. I had the red curry, but as a vegetarian, I subbed the meat for tofu. This option wasn't on the menu but there was no issue whatsoever when I rattled off the request. I loved this curry!! It had standard veggies with red and green bell peppers and bamboo shoots but also had the yummy addition of eggplant. I ordered it medium spicy which was very comfortable. I might order a little spicier next time for more zip - but I'm a big fan of spice. For dessert, we had mango sticky rice. This was the best version I've ever had! Might order two next time. I read some of the reviews about the spice and people were saying it was super hot but I really enjoy spicy food so I was like whatever. The food only took about 10-15 minutes and the lady at the front was very friendly to us while we waited. I really enjoyed the food, it had very good flavor and spice which was refreshing for me since i've had some not so good thai food. One thing i'd say is that if you really want to enjoy the flavor go 1 to 2 spice levels below what you think you can handle. My friend had the chicken wings he said they were crunchy and delicious as well. If you are a Nebraskan who loves white, creamy sauces this is not the place for you. But for spice lovers and folks who like real Thai food (not the sweet Americanized version) this is a great little place. Fast, friendly service and the spice level was right on - the dishes were fiery without being inedible and the flavor of the food came through. Maybe our Midwesterness is showing, but our only complaint with Mercy Thai was the size of the portions was skimpy and there really was almost no meat in the dishes. My husband has been looking for an authentic Thai restaurant for several years. He cooks Thai dishes for us. Today I said, "So, what are you doing wrong?" as I took my first spoonful of his Tom Tai Kau, not the most intelligent thing to say. But this Thai food is fabulous! I had the fried rice with pineapple, very good. Someone said 10 tables in the restaurant. It's been here for three months. I counted the tables and there were many more. I suggested to my husband he suggests this restaurant for his coworkers to go to at their next event. I do not want this restaurant to close. I like spicy food and settled for a FIVE to start out.
