I'm so very happy Meso Maya is now in Lakewood!! This gorgeous restaurant has such high quality food. It's also a place where I know my vegetarian friends will have just as amazing of a meal as I will and that's a rarity in Dallas. If the saying about judging a Mexican/Tex-Mex/Latin restaurant by its chips and salsa is true, then it will only take you a couple of seconds to know that you're in for a treat of a meal at MM. You know those perfect chips - not too thick but not too thin that they break when you dip them in the salsa? They've got 'em. The salsa is SOOO flavorful with just the right amount of heat. If the weather permits, their patio is where you want to grub down. It's covered and comfortable! The ceviche is soooo good - bright, fresh, and full of seafood. We shared it but I could easily plow through it all by my little self. I had the Del Mar enchiladas and they were incredible. And, I don't know what they do to their rice but seriously, I've never had rice that good before. Ah-maze-zing. The enchiladas were fab too - stuffed full of shrimp and crab and covered in a creamy tomatillo sauce - I'll def be ordering them again. My amiga ordered the vegetable Budin Azteca and the bite I had was very very good. Didn't even miss the meat! ;) This is a solid addition to the Lakewood dining scene! read more

Today is my first time at this location. I started out at the bar and was greeted warmly by Alfonso. He made me a wonderful old fashion made with tiquilla I also ordered the chicoron. Omg it is so good We then were seated at which time I prefer the posole rojo. The posole rojo was not really good to me. It's misses a lot of flavor that you would normally get if you made it at home. The temperature was also not as hot as I like it. It was more like it was warmed up instead of served from a pipping hot pot. All n all it was an okay experience. If I should come back it won't be for posole. I'll get a drink and order an app. read more

Really disappointed in this location as compared to the Preston/Forest one (which has always been 5 star to me). Although the bar area is much larger in this location, the table seating is awkward. We were seated along the side of the restaurant, behind a partition that made the walkway narrow and made it feel closed in. It was also right where the wait staff gathered to enter orders and chat, which was distracting and kind of annoying. Our waitress was fine-although she was gone for long periods. First food disappointment-we asked for the habanero salsa to go with what they bring out with the chips (we like to mix the two to get the spice level we like), and what they brought was not nearly as spicy as we wanted. Second disappointment-I ordered the Herradura Salmon, which I had before and loved, but the sauce was way too sweet. Hubby was not happy with his either. I was so excited there was a Meso Maya near our new place, but we will not return to this one. Guess we'll drive out to the other location when we need a fix. read more

Here in Dallas for a friends wedding and this place was the first to pop up so we gave it shot and i'm sure glad we did. We have a lot of great mexican restaurants in Los Angeles BUT wow not only was the food amazing but Christian. (our server) was on it. Made some great recommendations and was very attentive. Ordered takeout chicken tacos from this establishment on Friday evening. From a 1 to 10 I would rate them a 3. Chips and salsa provided tasted burnt with a smoke taste. Exterior and interior of the building is very appealing, they just need a better cook. Would not recommend if you would like affordable authentic Mexican food at an affordable price. Went for brunch on Sunday and left very impressed with everything overall. The manager giliermo wowed us by bringing us the best chincharones I've ever tried, great hospitality. Our waiter Hector was excellent throughout as well, always answered any questions we had about the menu and never made us feel rushed. The budin azteca was super flavorful and rich in taste . Inside dining can host large parties without feeling crowded (we were a a group of 8). Servings are very large. I got the chicken Budin Azteca which is a deliciously spiced, creamy dish with shredded chicken and stacked tortillas topped with a sprinkle of mild cheese, black beans, and arugala. Very much a comfort food dish in my view. 3 people got brisket tacos and ate every bite. Service was professional: everyone's dish was brought at the same time save one and the wait staff quickly brought the correct item. Reasonably priced. This has been my favorite restaurant since it opened. I went there for dinner on June 18th. Apparently there was a very lazy chef working that night. My herradura salmon had to be sent back twice. The brussel sprouts were obviously not changed and ending up black. The whole meal should have been redone. My husband ordered the coconut rice, an upcharge item. The chef used the regular white rice and drizzled coconut on top. Has always been cooked with the coconut in the rice. It was a huge disappointment and we haven't been back. They did comp the salmon. So I have gone to the one that is closer to downtown and I like this one a little better because of the parking. I had the carnitas y elote con crema instead of the rice and beans. It was all very delicious. I did not care Too much for the queso appetizer, it just really didn't have flavor and I just didn't think it was worth. The service was fantastic and the food was great! We got a queso, mango habanero margarita, serrano berry margarita, and shrimp avocado enchiladas. The rice was clean and the beans are a lighter refined black bean. Everything was cooked perfectly. I liked that I didn't feel weighed down after this Mexican dinner. The garden around the patio has many rosemary bushes, so it smells amazing outside. The inside is a very upscale, clean, dim environment. We love all of their regional Mexican dishes and flavors, from the guacamole, ceviche and their Budin's, salmon, tacos and deserts!
