Very good (Mayan/Mexican?) food! The chips are crispy and the salsa is super Smokey, not spicey. We started with the ceviche, it was very fresh and VERY limey with bits of shrimp and a white fish with some tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado chunks. I usually order the cochinita pibil, which is *gasp* amazing. However, this time I decided to branch out and ordered the Herradura salmon which was not a mistake. The salmon was cooked very well with a sweet spicey sauce over it, all on top of crispy Brussels sprouts and a flavorful cream sauce. I cleaned my plate in like 5 seconds, it was very good. I drove out here from Dallas to meet some folks from Farmer's Branch for brunch on Sunday. This location is in a strip mall and it was nearly empty Sunday at noon. However, the food was good and reasonably priced and service was professional. I had the pollo serano enchilada, which tasted like standard, delicious, creamy Mexican fare. The amount of food and quality of the dish were good value for $15 these days. I might try out the Dallas location some time. read more

Rating would have been higher if the serving staff would have been better. Ours was mediorce at best and that's being generous. We ordered salsa verde twice...never got it. Ordered a bowl of queso which, you guesses it, never arrived. Our food that did arrive was lukewarm and came out at several different times which left several at the table sitting for 10 minutes while others were eating. The food was decent. We had a family get together here recently. The food and drinks are great and the atmosphere is excellent. The only thing really lacking is the service. Our waitress was about the laziest server I've seen. I had to ask her multiple times to bring menus. Then I had to ask multiple times regarding when items were coming. She never came check on us or refill anything. I had to track her down to get the check, and then when she was clearing our table, she asked each person to hand her all the items to clear. Such a shame, as the food and drinks were great when they finally appeared. Hopefully they either provide more training or simply get more motivated servers. read more

Another table with more people was sat down around the 10 minute mark, and within 2 minutes they already has a server come up to them and began their order. This is the MesoMaya location closest to where we live, but we started dining at the location on Belt Line because it's closest to my husband's office. After dining at the Belt Line location fairly regularly, I will never go back to the Preston Forest location. We had lunch at the Preston Forest location on a Saturday when it wasn't terribly busy. There were mostly empty tables and one large party in the back. There were servers standing around doing nothing, but no one approached our table for drink orders or to deliver the customary chips and salsa. We were just about to ask if our table was in any particular server's section when someone finally came to our table like they were unhappy to be bothered. My daughter had to ask for a water refill. One of my son's orders was left off the ticket. Service was just not what we've become accustomed to at the Belt Line location. As for the food, it was inconsistent. One of my sons and I ordered the Mexican toast from the brunch menu, and the preparation of the two identical dishes wasn't close to the same. We all ordered the pozole verde, which is a staple for our family at MesoMaya on Belt Line, and it was watery with very little hominy and chicken. Bottom line, even though this location is closer to home, it's worth the trip a few miles north to dine at the Belt Line location where service is impeccable, and the food is better prepared. read more

I joined my friends for lunch today here. I haven't been there in forever! I walked in and let the hostess know that I was heading to the bar. A beautiful Latina bartender waited on us. She was very friendly. I didn't catch her name though. I ordered a michelada as soon as I got there (hangover cure). It was one of the best ones I have had in a bit besides mine of course. We ordered guacamole and queso and both were quite addicting. Then we ordered the fajitas mixed with beef and chicken, chicken enchilada and I ordered the chicken con lime soup too. My soup wasn't as hot as I would have wanted it to be but both of my friends dishes tasted great. The soup was quite amazing though because they use boiled chicken breast and it was low in sodium so I'll give them props for that. I was too hungover to complain about it not being hot. It was like above warm so it was eatable. Everything about it was delicious other than that. The service was great and I will be going back again. Next time I'll try the brisket tacos. read more

Quality has dropped over the past couple of months. Food came out cold on two occasions. My usual server has left and Rico (bartender) did a great job when he noticed from the bar that no other server had paid any attention to me in their section. Rico rocks. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas! Love that they serve white rice and black beans with all of their dishes. I will say I am gluten free and the chips have had me not feeling so well on a couple occasions which is sad because the chips are so good. Make sure to ask for plantains!! We took an Uber car over for dinner REALLY hoping that we were going to be pleased and have closure in our search for upscale Mexican food. Now, we have had some really, really good Mexican and TexMex food since moving to Dallas, but we haven't found a place that we would define as upscale (totally open to recommendations, by the way). So, when we walked into Meso Maya, we were really pleased. The environment was open and had a lot of warmth while being modern and clean. Our service was quick and friendly without being THAT informative. She seemed either new or simply uninformed about the menu (and we weren't really testing her). We scanned the menu and decided on the Queso Poblano for an appetizer. We thought it would be an actual stuffed pepper based on the description in the menu, but it was actual queso... which I am not mad about. I don't get mad about cheese. Ever. The queso with the house-made chips was the best thing we ate all night. I could eat that combination forever. The Budin Azteca Pollo that I ordered as my entree was like boiled chicken with dough. Not flavorful and kind of bland-looking. The cava I was drinking with the dinner helped was it down. I think it is probable that we will try Meso Maya again and, before we do, I will scour the reviews to find the right items to order, so hopefully we won't walk out next time sighing and wishing it was better. read more

What appears to be upscale, chic environment serving a non tex-mex menu. You wont find boatloads of cheddar cheese or sour cream on most of the menu, which is refreshing. Service is pushy for drinks, as they gear their focus primarily on it, but they do a good job watching over you. I tried their avocado margarita and wasn't a fan. It sounded great, but it didn't have a great composition. It was way too boozy in profile, with the other ingredients not standing out as much. The salt on the edge of the glass was nice though. The tostados were Pretty good but not huge in flavor. Not as cheesy as I was hoping, but it's the closest thing they have to nachos. Lots of fresh veggies on top though, which kept things light, but most of the flavor was tame. The Sweet Plantains weren't exactly the way I like them but they do a good enough job cooking them. They still had a firmness, where I prefer them to be a bit softer. They also didn't have much of a char on the edges. Not sure why brussel sprouts are the menu, but they were tasty. A little oily after a while though, so its best to share these. Great chips that had a good amount of corn oil, and toasted flavor with that satisfying crunch. Even better salsa! Their salsa was smoky but complex with a fresh, garden in the desert feel. Not that pace picante bullshit they serve at a lot of hokey tex mex joints. For a sit down place, the tacos were not bad. They load them up with quite a bit of stuff. The steak was cooked just right. I barely ate the rice and beans, but they weren't bad. They taste like they actually made the rice and beans rather than straight from a can. Perhaps they enhance them by seasoning or stocks, but much more inviting to eat than plain rice. The tortillas are nothing special but they get the job done. Overall, Meso Maya is an OK spot for Mexican cuisine that doesn't resemble on the border or their main company, El Fenix. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but if my friends or family require to eat here, Id be OK with it. read more

I think I fell in love. This place had a really nice patio, and the windows were open because it was really nice out. I LOVED the ambiance of this place, it was very chic. I stumbled upon this place when I passed another restaurant I wanted to try. This restaurant was on my list to try, but I completely forgot about until I drove by it. I am sooooooooooooo glad I decided to go in and try it out. We went during lunch hour but was able to get a table in under 15 minutes. The servers were REALLY nice, and they were all dressed nicely in ethnic shirts. We were first served with salsa and chips, and the salsa was fresh and had a kick to it. The chips came out warm, so I had to try it. It was definitely one of the best salsas I have had. They offered a lunch option where it comes with one taco, one enchilada and a choice soup, salad or black beans. I ordered the serranno chicken enchilada(shredded chicken in corn tortilla), and I ordered a shrimp taco with corn tortilla. The sopa de lima WAS GOOD, it was one of the best soups I have had as well. A friend ordered the carnitas, and he said it was one of the best tacos he had eaten. Ordered take-out for a special date night. I ordered the serrano enchilada which was super tasty! The enchiladas were stuffed with chicken and perfectly sauced. The sides with rice and beans were a perfect balance. No complaints with my meal. Why we are disappointed would be my husband's meal. He got the carne asada which is his regular go-to whenever we eat at Meso Maya. He placed the order earlier on the day for pickup at 5:30 PM. They even asked how he liked it and he said medium. There was a greeter when we parked who asked for our order and payment as well. She came out a couple minutes later with our food, warm and ready to eat. When we got home, we were excited since everything smelled so good. Unfortunately half of his carne asada came out basically raw (see pictures attached). The other half wasn't even medium, it was more on the well done side. He ate that half then realized half of it wasn't cooked at all. I appreciate the COVID precautions allowing us to pick up and pay without leaving our car and how employees were masked. But with these extra steps should not affect their food quality. It was our first time at this location and not sure if we will go back. They weren't busy when we were picking up either so I'm not sure what happened. What a pleasant surprise! Meso Maya offers a very tasty brunch option. My large group of 6 (plus two kiddos) were originally planning on trying the Canadian restaurant Maple Leaf (check it out). But alas, there was a massive hour and a half wait. Sooo, we looked on yelp for other places to go and Meso Maya stood out. I called ahead to see what the wait time was. A hostest immediately answered the phone (Score) and informed us that we could be seated immediately. A few minutes later we arrived and were immediately greeted and seated. From start to finish Meso Maya offered perfect service. Menus, waters, and chips and salsa were immediately brought out. I absolutely devoured their salsa. Soooo good. And their chips were super fresh. Not a stale one in the bunch (and I ate a lot). Everyone ordered mimosas and they hit the spot. The cherrys at the bottom were nice touch! We all ordered different things. I got the chilaquiles in verde (they couldn't split between red and green sadly) and the chicken was nice and tender. Im not used to chicken with my chilaquiles but it was a nice mix up. I was very pleased with my dish. My fiancé got the Hueos Borrachos. She liked it but wasn't expecting it to be scrambled as it was. One of my friends got the French toast and was quite pleased with his order. All in all, we had fantastic service throughout.
