Very good Pizza. Delightful sandwiches. Excellent salad bar. I was however disappointed with the pumpkin chili, the beans were undercooked and the flavor insipid. The clam chowder is very good, thick creamy and full of clams. When you paid with a credit card they ask you to put in a tip but you far left to get everything on your own and the table is never bussed nor the beverages refilled. If you know that going in when you place your order you can deal with a tip accordingly. We ate there twice and very much enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is good with family style seating. I've been to Messenger Pizza twice, and while it has its finer points, the beer in particular, there is a lot that needs improvement. I don't foresee anything changing, though, so I won't be back. First, the place is pretentious, and, frankly, it has no right to be. You're a pizza-by-the-slice in Nampa, ID, so why so smug? For example, the employees are wanna-be hipsters who look like they could use a hot shower. They are friendly, but not very interested in getting your order to you quickly. Perhaps that is part of the great "atmosphere" that everyone comments on, which brings me to the customers. They affect a sophistication and culture that is clearly artificial. Again, you're in Nampa, ID, so save your self-importance for a big city with lots of culture and diversity. You're not exactly sipping port after a night at the opera. I get the style of the place, but the old furniture look only works if it's comfortable. When the table needs a matchbook under it to keep it steady and the chairs are really as old as they look, that's not comfort or nostalgia: it's junk. The pizza combinations are excellent, the crust, however, is not. Both times I've been there it's been overcooked. If you have to re-heat pizza in your oven, then it's best to make sure you don't fully cook it beforehand. You'd think this would be common sense for a pizza-by-the-slice restaurant, but they're too busy acting cool to nail down the basics. The sauce is almost non-existent. Just because you serve NY style pizza doesn't mean you serve it without a pizza staple. I'm not asking you to dump it on so that it ends up soggy, just give me something to help overpower the overcooked cardboard flavored crust I'm about to eat. If this place is trying to imitate Flying Pie, then they sorely miss the mark. You're better off driving to Boise to deal with the hipsters there than waiting in line for pizza you could make just as good at home. read more

I really like this place. They have some wonderful pizzas (the Drunken Goat and Apple Bacon are my favorites). Also they have some wonderful beers. Sometimes the line can be out the door during peak hours (dinner/lunch time), but is worth the wait. I wish their red sauce was a little more exciting. Come have a slice and a beer! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch and got a slice and a soda. The pricing was dead on ($4) but the guy at the register acted a little "too good" to be answering our questions. I asked about serving size of the pizzas and what the 4 lunch options by the slice were and he acted completely put out to be talking to me. We ended up just getting a slice of pepperoni to go since we didn't know what the other options were. The crust was NOT good. Pretty burned along the edges and tasted a little like pizza from the frozen section at Winco.I actually ate less than 1/2 and gave the rest to my dog.The selection looked awesome for more gourmet pizzas, but I don't know if I will go back. In my mind, if your pepperoni isn't that great...maybe something is wrong with the big picture. read more

Service was excellent- friendly and fast. Pizza was only average. Thin crust was slightly chewy but not bad, sauce was minimal and rather bland, toppings were fresh and plentiful. Seating areas were eclectically decorated- funky and functional. There seemed to be plenty of room. We were there right before close- hours were listed wrong online- and staff was very gracious about letting us sit and relax with our dinner. Large assortment of adult beverages available. Wish I could give more stars! This is the very best pizza in the Treasure Valley. There sweet rolls are sublime and should be tried. What makes this pizza great is the crust, perfectly crips on the outside, not crunchy or dried and soft in the middle, not doughy. If your are looking for a thick doughy crust slathered in grease, keep heading down the street, there is a chain pizza place just for you. Do your taste buds a favor, eat here. I cannot say enough good things about Messenger. Both of my kids have moved out of the area but their first stop when coming home is Messenger Pizza. They have a great selection of crusts from gluten free to sourdough. We have tried a number of their specialty pizzas and all are wonderful!! They really take care of their customers. I came in for lunch and ordered a gluten free calzone, the order never got place. So I was apologized too and given a full refund plus a free calzone card for next time. I was really looking forward to the calzone that I came back for dinner. Used my free card and was recognized from early and given my hard cider for free also. My gluten free calzone with goat cheese was wonderful. I'm so glad I have a place to go and still get pizza and and calzones and breadsticks that are gluten and dairy free! read more

Great customer service and probably the best GF pizza I've had in a restaurant to date. Counter staff was patient with us and even let my son try the on tap root beers so that he got one he liked. Next time we are in Nampa we will be going back. read more
