They will charge you, for example $2.69, and if you pay $3, they give you 30 cents in change but pocket the penny they owe you without saying a word. I work for a client who consistently pays me every week in all $10 bills. Recently, I went in to New Way Deli immediately after being paid by this client. Here's what happened: There were two employees behind the deli's counter, one in his 40s and and the other 50+. I bought items at a cost of $3.69, and I paid with one of my $10 bills. The younger man at the cash register handed me back $1.30. This seemed strange. I informed him that I had given him $10. He immediately said, "No, you gave me a $5." He did not check or offer any assistance, and he said it immediately. It was a very practiced response. His colleague, the older gentleman, continued, "Yes, you gave him a $5." So now it was the word of two against one. So why do I think I was right? 1) This is not the first time where the same guy handed me a different amount than I thought it should be. It's happened two or more times in the past couple of years. This is too many times to be an accident. 2) I have witnessed multiple customers arguing with these same guys about items not matching their receipt or a discrepancy in the cash they received. Probably not an accident either. 3) The store policy is to steal pennies from customers. What else do they do when you're not looking? 4) Read the other negative review here, what happened with overcharging her, and their response. This is fraud. New Way Deli must hold their customers in thinly veiled contempt to engage in such a practice. I will not go there again.
