I can't begin to say how wonderful today's dining experience has been! Our family has favored Metro Diner as one of our go-to dining places when we want peace of mind (i.e. great food & service) and today was exceptionally better! That's very impressive considering how high a bar of excellence Metro Diner has consistently delivered for us! Today we were waited on by Ashleigh, a very friendly, professional, helpful, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and detailed waitress (who needs to run her own diner because she's so good at what she does!!!). After a very welcoming greeting upon our arrival we were immediately seated. It was obvious, but not distracting, that they are practicing safety protocols, which is reassuring. We started off with a hot cup of Vanilla Creme flavored coffee and a hot cup of Lemon Ginger tea. For breakfast, we ordered The Bissell Breakfast (two eggs scrambled, bacon, toast, and a short stack of pancakes) and the Fruity Waffle (Belgium waffle, topped with fresh blueberries, strawberry and banana slices). I also ordered a side of Canadian Bacon, Hashbrowns, and Scrambled Eggs. Let me say EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!! Ashleigh only enhanced our experience by her timely visits to check on us and accommodate our requests! She even helped us save some money on a to-go order I was also making, by alerting me to a promotion they were having! She took customer service and quality of service to a new level! First time at Metro was in Daytona Beach Florida. I was encouraged to find one here and give it a try. Now the picture does not do the shrimp and grits justice but demonstrates the three stars. I had the shrimp and grits. It was tasty, well seasoned with plenty of shrimp and white gravy. However, it's a grit patty and the patty was over-cooked to the point that the grits were dry and had an unappealing crust. I also do not prefer white gravy, but it was actually good. My wife had chicken and waffles, but the chicken was very dry and no seasoning. The waffle was awesome with the strawberry butter. The Daytona location hit a home-run, but today in Indy fell short. I'm going to chalk it up to a bad day and hope that next time the kitchen doesn't overcook the food. read more

A breakfast/lunch and dinner diner that was quick and easy place to grab lunch while I was out. The service needed a bit of work, but I think my server was really just having a day. Ordering was easy, they gave you sanitized laminated menus. It also looks like they have the QR code menus on the tables themselves. Tried the Philly cheese steak sandwich with seasoned fries. The Philly could use a bit more cheese and was a tad dry. Some mayo may have fixed it. The fries were crispy. I asked for a side of ranch, the server dropped it on the way and never brought a replacement. Bissell breakfast- everything was cooked perfect and my fiance commented that the grits were "not as watery as some places" so I assume that's a good thing! Had breakfast the other day at Metro diner. I haven't been here in almost a year. But it was just as I remember. They gave me a nice helping for a reasonable price. I got the two egg breakfast with grits turkey sausage egg scramble and a croissant French toast. Our waitress was so nice she got everything perfect and was very attentive. Our waitress was super friendly and nice. I wish I remembered her name. Metro always slaps, and the service is top notch. Gwen is absolutely fantastic, as are all the servers we've had over the many months of coming here in the mornings! It has the old school diner feel that is cozy and populated by locals every morning. We've never had anything bad here for breakfast. My personal fav is the eggs benedict because they're always perfect every time I get them. Bloody Mary's for $4, and they're as good, if not better, than the $12 bloody Mary's you get any other place in the mornings. read more

Came here as part of my tour of Indiana pork tenderloin sandwiches. Metro Diner's rendition, The Big Bern, technically isn't a pork tenderloin in the eyes of tenderloin purists who think that the sandwich should have at most lettuce and tomato as toppings. The Big Bern, on the other hand is covered with a slew of toppings--sautéed spinach, carmelized onions, bacon, provel cheese, garlic-tomato aoli--on two slices of properly-sized and thick bread...which is the reason why I like it quite a bit. The tenderloin itself was unevenly pounded and was only decent (because the meat came out a little dry), the bacon was overpowering, but other than that it was a decent sandwich. Service was good--the staff was kind enough to answer my various questions--though a little spotty in parts because of how busy the restaurant was that morning. I love this place! Thanks to a great introduction to this place from a recent Yelp event, I was eager to come back and bring my boyfriend. The only bad thing about Metro is that you may struggle to decide what you want. Everything is good! I had gotten a chance to try so many great things at the yelp event that I even struggled to decide what to get. I thought I wanted something I had tried already but settled for the chicken pot pie to try something different. I was not let down! I got the small order and it was just enough. Just the right amount of flavor and veggies inside and the biscuit on top made it perfect for me. My boyfriend went with the chicken and waffles - another great choice. Wow - the full size serving of this dish is huge. A giant pile of chicken and a waffle with strawberry butter. He loved it. Definitely making this one of my go to's for breakfast, brunch or dinner. What a great little diner! I went with some coworkers for a breakfast and were greeted by a very cheery Celeste - even with it being 7a, we felt welcomed! The service was excellent! Celeste was patient when we needed time to review the menu, kept our coffee topped off, got the food orders perfectly, and the food was served hot and delicious. My hash browns were a litttle greasy but the sausage patties and Belgian waffle were delicious. Definitely recommend Metro Diner if you're in the mood for great food and service! read more

We came here after church to check out their brunch. A lot of people were getting the chicken and waffles which looked good but was not in the mood for that. Around 11:00 am we had ~15 minute wait- the restaurant was extremely hot which made the floor slippery as well but they did have signs posted to help warn customers (I saw this issue in previous posts as well) I got the Bissell breakfast which came with a ton of food and well worth the cost- I got it with 2 eggs scrambled, hashbrowns, toast, and pancakes. The Bissell comes with bacon but they were happy to substitute for sausage. The entree was huge and filling- I felt like the egg portion was more than 2 eggs as well. Staff were very friendly- would definitely return. Looks like they have some good lunch/dinner options as well but more known for their breakfast. read more

Great food! Excellent waitress! They need to get a manager who understands customer service! Metro Diner posts special on a chalkboard. They posted a "Meat Lovers Waffle" for $10.99. The bill came and they charged $12.99. I said something to the waitress. She took the bill up to the manager. He told her the chalkboard was wrong and it should be $12.99. He did not change the bill to match the price they had posted. The waitress came back and apologized but the bill remained at the higher price. Dear Metro Diner Manager, you have just shown exactly how to lose a future business by not recognizing you made a mistake and refusing to own up to your mistake and honor the correct price. You made $2.00 more and lost much more future business from this customer! Not your best decision! Went there after seeing so many good reviews of this place. Was a huge disappointment. Our table ordered Chicken Tenders, Chicken Pot Pie, kids pancakes, and kids Mac and Cheese. 1. The Chicken Tender dinner only has TWO tenders. I had to check the receipt to make sure we didn't get the child's portion. The fries were soggy and the side salad was mostly wilted lettuce. 2. Chicken Pot pie was underbaked and had no color to the biscuit top. Veggies were undercooked and still pretty crunchy. Overall, I'd rather have a microwave Banquet pot pie than this one. Could only stomach half and had to pickup food elsewhere to get full later. 3. Kids Pancakes were typical frozen mini pancakes, nothing special. Doesn't come with any side of meat or hash-browns or anything, pretty small portion even for my 5 year old. 4. Kids mac and cheese came out room temperature. Probably more filling than the adult chicken tenders though! Fries were also cold and soggy. Not sure if we had a bad experience or what, but we are from out of town and tried this place based on the reviews. Nothing was good and the bill was still over $50 after tip for bad food. Came here for Yelp's Pajama Party! How could anyone not love this event?! Breakfast for dinner? Check! Full belly? CHECK!! I had visited Metro before and I honestly have been dying to come back! MUST TRY the strawberry butter that comes on the waffle when you check chicken and waffles. It's so creamy and soft and like Frank's Hot Sauce, I really want to put that on EVERYTHING! The pajamas worn by everyone was a great touch to the night! It was such a fun and lighthearted event! I was shocked at how much we were each served! We started out with Huevos Rancheros; fried tortilla shells were the perfect texture, chorizo, beans, and cheese precisely melted along with jalapeños and salsa. I easily could eat this everyday. Second was the french toast, soft and warm but very traditional. Chicken and Waffles, my favorite, followed and breading on the chicken is a good sized layer. (Again, the strawberry butter!!!) The next three were hard to finish as I had almost reached my full belly capacity. Shrimp and grits had huge shrimp along with a creamy base like a potato soup. The meatloaf with gravy was next and finished with the Holy Davoli burger. Wait for it.....a burger sandwiched by two grilled cheeses!!? Mind blown. Ok, ok. So with some prompting we went back to give Metro Diner another shot. We returned with friends on another Friday morning -- but had a totally different experience than below. It was also packed for our second visit and we noted there was a wait to be seated as we were leaving around early lunch time. Major positive changes: This go-round all of our food arrived hot and was tasty to boot. Our server was bubbly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu - a plus! I wish I could remember her name because she deserves a shout-out for real. My coffee stayed refilled and there were several staff members -- including the manager -- that pitched in to bring out our food and to-go boxes when it was time. Stand outs today were the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast and the large side order of hashbrowns that came with the BnG. The hub's chicken was a leeeetle more 'brown' this time, but he said it was still tasty (see pics). So yes. I take back my 2 star rating from before and am happy to give them the star bump I knew they were capable of. Keep it up, y'all! read more

Comfort food, comfort food... First time trying chicken and waffles and it was ok, just not my favorite meal ever. But that's just me. The fried chicken was overcooked but still very tasty. Warning: greasy but, again, FRIED chicken. The waffles were good, not the best I've ever had. The strawberry butter was also just ok to me, I left most of it behind. My hubby had the Salisbury steak special, ate all of it and declared it delicious. I tried a bite of the mashed potatoes and that is where they really shine-wonderful. His grilled veggies were very greasy, though, inedible. A word on service. Thursday night, 6pm, warm Feb. night (ahhhh!) and the place was half empty. The lady who seated us was also our waitress, she gave us the first timers speel then took our drink order right away. We ordered when she returned and our meals were out to us, steaming hot, in about ten minutes. We have no complaints about timing or friendly service. They started filling up and I noticed everyone was still getting decent service. So, we might eat here again but we aren't going out of our way. read more

After dropping the kid off at day camp, I decided I wanted to try something new for breakfast / brunch. I looked up places close to me and decided to try the Metro Diner. It has a pretty unassuming storefront and is rather small, however based on my experience today, the food is definitely worthy of another try. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Not something I frequently order anywhere, but the picture posted on Yelp was appealing and I had to try it. You get half a chicken and a whole waffle. The bad news is the waffle is nothing special. It is the same "Belgian" style waffle you can get anywhere. It was fresh and served with a strawberry compound butter. The server also mixed a small bowl of syrup with several drops of Louisiana hot sauce. Personally I felt it was too spicy, so I mixed it with a bit more syrup and it was a lovely dip for the fried chicken. The fried chicken is one of the best I've had in a very long time. The breading wasn't too heavy, the seasoning wasn't over powering. It was hot and juicy. I will be back for more chicken. I hesitate to give this place 5 stars...yet.
