Amazing service!!!! Called in for takeout and the server on the phone and in the restaurant were very polite, kind and fast !

I have been going to Metro for several years. The staff is extremely friendly and the service is always very good. Right on the money with refills or a drink to go and half the time they remember what your usual is and ask you if that's what you are having. Food is always great, I often rotate through just a few items on the menu and they are extremely consistent. Always take my family there when the my visit. There is a reason it is always packed, they earn your business and do what it takes to keep it! read more

This place has gone down hill. My chicken fried steak was super thin. My date found an egg shell is her scrambled eggs.

Me and my family evacuated to Jacksonville this weekend to avoid hurricane Florence. Metro diner was recommended by a family member. We walked right in and was seated immediately. The food was great my boys loved the chicken and waffles and the spicy chicken honey biscuit. I had the breakfast pie and cheese grits which was soooooo good!!! The price was reasonable. This place was awesome. My dad and I had the breakfast pie and it was a huge meal. I had the fried jalapeños in it which spiced it up perfect. We did have to wait a few minutes and it was worth it!! Fried chicken and waffles tends to be the most popular item. read more

Awesome diner! Searched for a place to eat breakfast by the beach after picking up my friend from the airport. Glad we stopped here, the staff was polite and we were seated right away even tho the place was packed. I had the Chicken and Waffles. First impression was "Wow that's a lot of food!". I even had a neighboring table commenting on my meal. Second, it was absolutely amazing, the chicken was hot out of the frier and the waffles were amazing. My server asked if I was familiar with chicken and waffles and I said no. He proceeded to show me the hot sauce and syrup mixture. We went there yesterday for breakfast. Our experience was not great. I ordered poached eggs that were barely cooked and there were eggshells in them! I was sick to my stomach the rest of the day. My husband and daughter's eggs were also undercooked. The manager did come over and apologize, and offered to give me more eggs, but I was already sick to my stomach and couldn't even finish my breakfast. He did come back with a $13 gift certificate (my breakfast was 7.99), however I thought he should also have removed the 7.99. Anyway, our waitress was fabulous, probably won't be able to go back for breakfast for awhile :-( read more

First experience at Metro diner in Jax. It was Sunday morning and they were slammed. There was a bit of a wait but breakfast was well worth it. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. We love coming to this diner whenever we visit JAX. The breakfast pizza is amazing, the eggs Benedict always cooked just right and so many other unique items. We've never had a bad experience or meal here, just be aware of the wait times. They will allow reservations for parties of 8 (or maybe it's 6) or more. read more

Big Metro Diner fan, but the chicken pot pie was amateurish. The chicken was very scarce and in tiny pieces. I strongly don't recommend it. However, everything else I've had makes up for it. The Yo Hala is a favorite breakfast food of mine. From the warm staff to the restaurant layout, you feel like at home. And you're always bound to leave with a box, you definitely get yours money's worth. I just wish they could stay open longer! read more

2 1/2 stars. Hmmm nothing special. Nothing bad and nothing out of the ordinary.I had the chicken and waffle. They give you a lot of chicken: a breast, thigh, leg, and a chicken strip and it was very juicy but could have been seasoned a little more. The waffle was cooked too hard for my liking, I prefer it fluffy but it was more crispy/hard. I did like the strawberry butter though, I just wish they put more on it. The American omelet was pretty good but it definitely needed more salt. And I liked the homemade fries(potatoes). Overall my diner breakfast was ok but I wouldn't have to have it again. read more

One of the best restaurants to have breakfast in Jacksonville. The wait is long, the parking is horrible, but the food is worth the wait.

Okay, being from out of town, I have to admit, I was a little bit put off by the word 'diner'. My exact words were "But baaaabe! We have Waffle Houses all over KY! Can't we find somewhere else?". Today I learned to never judge a book by its cover. We have NOTHING like this in Kentucky! Our first clue that we were in for a treat was the lack of parking. Seriously, every spot was full! When we walked in, there was a slight wait for a table, but we were invited to sit at the counter and order if we liked. DEFINITELY sit at the counter!!! Watching all of the food being prepared only made us hungrier. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles, which comes with half a chicken! Not a typo, HALF of a darn chicken! I got the biscuits and gravy and the corned beef hash. It was seriously the best corned beef hash I've ever had! All of our food was amazing and our server, Alastair was a real sweetheart. We wish we lived down here, we'd be in here every day! Already planning next year's vacation with a special stop at this joint :) read more

If you want your clothes to stink when you leave the restaurant, or to sit through a cacophony of hollering cooks - shouting over the otherwise jet level noise, this is the place for you. Oh - did I mention that food is just average at best. Nothing seems fresh. The soups come from a can. The service is unsophisticated, and the seating is cheek to jowl. Pretty much the reason this place is getting four starts is the four cheese ham sandwich. I don't really have anything negative to say about Metro. It's a very plain restaurant, it does have a good menu selection and I have never had bad service. It just seems like something is missing though. It's almost great, but not quite there, ya know? When they are open they are crowded, especially in the morning. People LOVE the chicken and waffles. I think it's 14.00 bucks, which is kind of steep for a diner, but you actually get a pretty hefty portion, and will most likely have to box some of it up to go. I will definitely go back, but it's not somewhere i will frequent. I think they need something that makes them stand out. I can't pin point what it is, I'll update if I figure it out. read more

I went here for my birthday lunch. I figured it would be comparable to the Metro on Hendricks, that was my first mistake. My French Dip was interesting. One half was steaming hot like it should be, and the second was refrigerator cold. I eat extremely fast, so It wasn't cold because I took my time eating the hot half. My wife got the Reuben. It was nothing special. They relied on overloading the sandwich with Thousand Island dressing to hide the fact the corned beef had no flavor. Bottom line, this place was not worth the drive or the smell your clothes get after eating here. read more

We eat here for lunch about once every other week. Everyone's pretty much covered the crowd issues so I'll just talk about the food we've tried. It does get a little chaotic on the weekends so I would recommend going on a week day if possible so I'll just say that. *French dip-- delicious, worth a try. Love the au jus dip and it's big serving. Could probably feed two. *Bissel breakfast--Comes with eggs, sausage or bacon, hash brown or homefries, toast, & a shortstack of pancakes. Also a great breakfast feast. I prefer the hashbrowns and sausage but I've had this meal with both bacon & homefries and it's all good. The pancakes tastes like they might have a pinch of vanilla and in IMO they really compliment the sausage. The home fries are sprinkled with seasoned salt and aren't my fave but my husband likes them while, like I said, I prefer the hashbrowns with this. *Fried chicken & waffles--Great but sometimes a little too overcooked. Still really good though. I'm kind of a traditionalist when it comes to food so I'd really rather it come with potatoes or rice but my husband loves it. The strawberry butter is a nice treat. They make a sweet hot sauce with syrup and tobasco and it's pretty good. This is a definite recommend. *Pot roast--Tastes fresh, sometimes a little too salty but still a great dish. Comes with carrots and mashed potatoes. A great comfort food on a rainy or cold day(not too many of those this time of year but I ordered this a lot when it was still cold). I've also ordered a couple of salads but I forgot what exactly it was called on the meno. The vinagrette was homemade and decent. The grilled chicken was a little on the dry side but the salad was fresh. Oh yeah--I recommend eating outside as it gets pretty loud in the dining room. read more

I don't know if it's just because there aren't many breakfast diners in town, but I've been here several times now, and I think the fries have been good and I'm generally pleased with the service and the food. Don't miss out on the Monte Cristo. The SOS (chipped beef) was much, much creamier than what I was used to and was too creamy for me, but that's more of a personal preference and it's probably supposed to be that way. I can't wait to try the corned beef, eggs benedict, club sandwich, and others. Prices are perhaps higher than what I prefer, but the food more than likely is good enough to rate those higher prices. read more

My favorite breakfast spot in town. There are several Metro locations and I have been to them all and this one is hands down the best. The service at this location is what makes it so great. to the folks complaining about this that and the other? Just stay home and do the world a favor. Clearly you have monkey butlers or something waiting on your every need. I've never waiting longer than 10 minutes for a table. The wait staff is excellent. My boyfriend swears by the Chicken and Waffles, which a lot of folks do. I'm partial to the Lox and Bagel, which is so good and surprisingly filling. I actually got the Shrimp and Grits for the first time today and I'm wondering why I didn't try this sooner. The shrimp was perfect and the cream sauce is so good you could smear it on a truck bumper and it'd make said bumper taste outstanding. I adore this place. We go as often as we can read more
