I'm a fan of the Metro Diner, and I'm happy to see them finally bring their food to the beach! I like that they have more seating and ventilation than the original location. I like the decor and the service has been good every time I've been there. I got my usual crabcake benedict, which is always a hit! The rest of my party tried some of the specials they had on the menu -- everything was delish! The only downfall for customers (but not for the restaurant) is that it's ALWAYS packed on the weekends and the wait is sooooo long... but that's totally expected from breakfast/brunch hot spots like this.... so yea, I'l live with it :) read more

I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. We stopped in here before heading back to Atlanta on Labor Day. There was a line and I understand there's usually one so plan accordingly. We waited about 25 minutes. My son ordered the chicken and waffles and I had the American (steak) omelette w/ the home fried potatoes, and OJ. The portions are pretty large! I'd swear they give you almost half a chicken with the waffles! They make a sweet and spicy sauce out of the syrup and hot sauce, which was actually pretty tasty. I had a piece of his chicken and it was piping hot. It could've used some more salt and flavor but decent enough. The waffles were crispy and came with a tasty strawberry whipped butter. The waffles weren't proportionate to the chicken as there was a LOT of chicken and four triangles of the waffles. My omelette was ok. It tasted more like a Philly cheesesteak omelette than a regular steak omelette and maybe that's because I substituted the mushrooms for peppers...it was tasty and the hoe fries were cooked nice and crispy! The orange juice was very fresh and reminded me of Simply Orange! Overall, a good breakfast before heading down the road, even if it was a little heavy. :-) read more

Metro Dinner doesn't need any reviews. It has a huge loyal following in Jacksovnille and they're always crowded. The service is very good; everyone is very nice, but this place is nothing more than a standard diner (as the name implies.) They have large servings, which is great if you're obese or nursing a monster hangover, but the food is nothing more than above-average. Perfect place to go to nurse a hangover and reminisce with some friends about the vague memories from the night before. Probably also a good place for kids. Don't expect any healthy food. I had huevos rancheros, which the waiter said were awesome, and they were OK. Actually more like huevos nachos. I've eaten huevos rancheros all over the country, and this was a strange version. My buddy's omelette looked huge, but nothing special. My other buddy's eggs Benedict had slightly under-cooked eggs. Would I go back? I guess. Is there better places? For a diner-type place.... the Beach Diner is probably a little better. Taverna is a slightly more expensive breakfast, but much better. read more

You won't leave here hungry. Priced right for food! There are amazing selections on the menu. On my first visit I tried the pound cake French toast. Let's just say oh my! Today was less oh my- more just ok. I had the bagel and lox. After having the bagel and lox last week at delicomb, metro's version cost more, had less lox, less cream cheese and an older plain bagel. We went here for the first time over the Memorial Day weekend and arrived just before 7 am - with 15 minutes the place was filling up fast and we can understand why. The food is totally delicious and the staff are all so friendly and helpful. I had the creamed chipped beef and it was amazing, so rich and creamy, not peppery at all and perfectly cooked. Hubby had corn beef hash and loved his too - you now if they can make a basic breakfast dish taste wonderful you have found a great place. . We are making this our regular Sunday morning breakfast place and can't wait to try out all the other goodies on their menu. read more

Been back three more times. Expectations were not only met but exceeded. I just have to remember to go in hungrier than I've ever been before. Those portions are almost criminally large. I would like to see this place grow beyond it's building because the demand is definitely there in the mornings. Long waits are to be expected if you arrive past 9:30 but the staff don't rush you. First Visit! A bit on the crowded side, but that was to be expected, from all I've heard nothing but good things about this place! My wife and I had the breakfast.....The Tuscan Omelette, and Veggie Omelette. We both enjoyed our meals! My wife loved the coffee! The orange juice I ordered was fresh squeezed!! I was impressed! Our waitress was very professional, courteous, and thoughtful. With my palette for all things spicy, the hottest sauce they had was tobasco, but the waitress brought me a side order of sliced fresh jalapenos! It really made my day! We went for lunch during the week. After noon so we didn't have to wait. The greeter was very nice and friendly and asked if a particular seat was ok. Our waiter came over and was very friendly. He cane over thru our meal to make sure everything was ok. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Only negative was it was so big I couldn't get my mouth around it. Fries were very good. Just sat down for breakfast. Wait was about 15-20 minutes on a Saturday morning. Parking is an issue as we had to park across a busy street to find a spot. Ordered the biscuits and gravy. With two eggs and hash browns. Came out fairly quickly and was a good portion size. Gravy had a good flavor but could have used a little more pepper for my taste. Hash browns were crunchy but only on the outside so those were good. Service was fast and friendly. All in all was a good place to eat and I'm sure I will be back again. read more

I usually enjoy Metro Diner, but today's visit was not enjoyable. I selected the Monte Cristo sandwich special and it sat under the heat lamp for 10 min (I could see it) waiting on the other items. It was soggy and tough when tried to eat it. It was unpleasant. Also, I found out thier onion rings are frozen. Even more, the beans and rice were nothing to write home about, definately straight out of can. A very below average experience sadly, not the Metro Diner I have come to love. Don't think I will go back any more. I am not going pay those high prices for below average chow. read more

My husband and I were in town this weekend exploring Jacksonville and a co-worker of mine had suggested the Metro Diner. He said, "The chicken and waffles are a piece of heaven." We opted for the Local Favorites section of the menu instead. I went with a chicken pot pie and my husband got some type of burger with coleslaw and all the fixins on it. Well I gotta tell you, the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were large (but that's a good thing for us because we have big appetites). My husband let me have a bite of his burger and it was one of the best I've had. On top of the excellent food, our waitress Jess was extremely polite and helpful and the hostess was very nice as well. She let us sit at a big table meant for six even though it was just the two of us. We're moving to Jacksonville in June and we definitely plan on frequenting Metro Diner often! read more
