Great draft selection. Best Burger I've ever had in RI. Very interesting looking interior. Friendly and accommodating service. What more can I say? their $9 draft sampler where you can get 4 7 oz samples of their elaborate beer/cider selection is a great deal if you can't decide what to get. My go to entree here is their Rhody burger, all natural, local beef, very hearty tasting and I didn't feel like crap after eating the burger like I normally do after eating something greasy because the burger is so wholesome. The fries that came with the burger were a tad too salty for my liking but my bf's curly fries were really good. My boyfriend got the reuben sandwich and he said it was the best reuben he ever tasted. Both of us were pleasantly surprised at the richness of the corned beef used (it wasn't your typical corned beef deli meat, it was actual corned beef). There's a great selection of beer but the food is hit or miss. We shared the Stuffed Mozzarella Caprese as a starter. It was delicious but it's a small portion. Great beer selection, food is very good and diverse. You have a choice of sitting in the restaurant, which is family friendly, or the tavern. The tavern has a unique charm, with dollars stapled all over the ceiling and walls. Tavern tends to be a bit noisy. There is also an upstairs bar that is roomy. Favorite dishes are the classic nachos (my go to choice) and buffalo bleu burger. read more

Had dinner at Celtic Lounge upstairs. Started with wings on special. The wings were your average wings. I order the steak and Blu quesdilla and my friend got the burger on special. The burger was good. The fries served with the quesdilla were cold so I asked for coleslaw instead. Unfortunately, the coleslaw came when we got our check and it was not very good. Very different and yummy comfort food. Bar is loud and crowded, the new sign and tack a dollar thing is, well tacky. A bit confusing to navigate as it's darker and many different rooms and levels. Just finding the host table can be difficult and like a scavenger hunt. However, the servers are pleasant and the service is quite decent. There are separate rooms that are quieter than most, but definitely not a place for a quiet romantic dinner. Fun though! read more

Thought this place was fantastic! Went for dinner w/ my 2 young kids & sat in the tree room. Service was speedy & attentive. Food was great. I had a cup of the tomato bisque & the harvest salad. When I left this place I said, well that was fun! That sums it up. There are layers and layers to this restaurant/bar that I did not explore. I went on a busy Sunday. The parking lot was packed!!! We were seated within minutes because the place is huge. Service was a little slow, but with that many people I expect that. The food was delicious. We had appetizers in the bar area. Hostess continue to get ruder after 7 years. My wife and I used to go every Saturday on date night. The hostess have never been friendly but they continue to hire ruder girls to greet you. They don't smile and dish out orders to you as though you work there. It sets a terrible tone for the whole restaurant. They never have enough pagers and tell you to come back to get one. Beer selection is great and food is ok. The pizza is they way to go and the best for fresh. Shame it takes a lot to get through terrible greeting to get through the door. read more

Today I had the best experience at the Mews Tavern. As I made the long treck through the parking lot I was frustrated. I am very overweight and so is my wife.... so I already was feeling uncomfortable! I walked in and the friendly blue eyed of a hostess in the green shirt (Maura) greeted me with a twinkling smile. She was nothing short of professional and sexy. As mara walked me to the table I couldn't help but stare at the plates AS I walked by. I asked matura what kind of pizza I saw on the way and she went out of her way to go hunt the kind down for me ! I tried it and it was SO EXCELLENT!!!! Brent was our server he was kinda bland but my wife thought he was cute and he got the food to the table. After we waited for the bill, we walked out the same way we came in so we could see Maura one last Time. I tried to hug mara on the way out but she resisted and just gave me a wave. A missed opportunity with such a large unique interior and located near uri one would think this would be a high energy fun spot. Sadly it's more like the worst parts of a sad dive and bar chain restaurant. I used to come here on a weekly basis( you could even smoke in bars when I first started coming here). This was definitely my favorite place in my earlier 20's, I've never had a problem with the food, service, or drinks. I've been here a handful of times within the last 3 years, twice when I was pregnant and once with my daughter. Those times we sat in the actual restaurant so maybe that was the difference? My husband and I moved to CT a year ago. Our date nights are far and few. We dropped our daughter off at her grandparents to have dinner/drinks here and will probably not make a point to come here again. It wasn't completely terrible but the food has gone downhill. We were not asked once about our meal once we received it (just while the plates were being cleared and the bartenders noticed we left 3/4 of our food on the plate). The appetizer (nachos) was decent. We had said no thanks to the extras (guac and chicken) but received guac regardless and was charged for it. I like guac so it wasn't a huge deal. The turkey burger patty was horribly over seasoned and dry. My husband didn't enjoy his grilled buffalo chicken sandwich. Bar food should be simple. The bartenders paid a ton of attention to the regulars and large parties around us. Would definitely not go through the trouble of driving an hour to drop off our kid, then 25 minutes to the Mews. Stay over the border in Narragansett with your nose up. The Mews is a great bar, there are actually 3 bars and endless dining tables both in the bars and away from them. The Mews is a family/townie bar and there are people from ALL walks of life who are regulars. Depending on which night you decide to go will depend on which crowd is most likely there...but usually it is an even mix. Executive Assholes to the Swamp Yankee to the College Student to local Law Enforcement (off duty) to teachers to hipsters and young professionals to tourists. The Mews has THE best burgers and EXCELLENT wood fired pizza that is cooked literally right in front of your face. The rest of the menu is bar food, a little over priced...But if you're a local (or just a smart person) you go to the Mews for the 69 Beers and things like buffalo chicken tenders, pizza, burgers, nachos, etc. If it's a haul for you I suggest checking out their facebook page and website. Definitely a must stop for anyone visiting the area. If you love beer this is place to go, 69 brews on tap - cleanest taps out of all the bars in the area, other places should take note. I love my whiskey and they have a great whiskey club :) Bartenders and staff (there are a ton) are all super friendly and very easy to form relationships with. I don't get it. There is always a wait. It's nothing special. Ordered calamari. Small portion and had the tentacles which I don't like. I had the special pizza. Scallops, bacon and cheese. It was good. The buffalo chicken sandwich my daughter said was good. Ordered ice cream for the baby and it took forever to come. A dish of vanilla? Server took our order and that was about it. Decided to take a drive to Wakefield-Narragansett. Went with a group of friends and decided to get a bite to eat here. The place was pretty packed had to wait quiet a while to be seated. Once we sat down for lunch the waitress took our orders. The appetizers were pretty good, had a couple of orders of chicken wings, buffalo and dry rub. I decided to have the blazin saddle burger, it was okay, had bacon and a spicy sauce to it. I looked around and the table near us, a person had ordered the fish n chips. That looked scrumptious and a huge portion it was. Next time I go there i will order the fish n chips. As far as the service, the customer service was good, We had to wait a while to get our food. You'd be hard pressed to find a southern Rhode Islander or URI alumni who doesn't have some fond memories of the Mews. It's hard to not associate it was upbeat, fun, sometimes over indulgent times as it has always been one of the more popular night spots as well as day drinking spots for what seems like eternity. I've eaten there more times than I can count but since starting Yelp! I believe I've only been twice so after going last week I figured it'd be worthy of a review. I went after work to the pub side which has expanded its booth seating within the last few years. It was moderately busy but one of the first nice days of the spring so to be expected. The beer menu was decent, in the past I've always thought it to be excellent but perhaps it's just the beer season limbo before the summer beers come out. It was also half price burger night which was an amazing promotion as I was able to get one of the burgers I'm usually a little too cheap for (I call it frugal, everyone else calls me cheap). The burgers were absolutely satisfying and delicious. I got the one with pastrami on it and a special sauce, it blew my mind. As a burger lover was completely impressed. I got some coleslaw on the side which was also very good. Overall it was a great meal. On top of the experience last week I had also gone a few months back and gotten the pulled pork nachos which I raved about since. Huge serving and the pulled pork was tasty. So to clarify, as we all know the Mew's is a fun party spot and also throws a great charity race. But the lesson to be learned here is it should also be given credit for some tasty eats. Been going to Mews at least twice a week for the past 3 years. New owner took over and ever since it's been downhill. The specials have all been modified and aren't really a good deal anymore. They pushed the time they start back till way too late. On top of that, tonight I went in and they took our IDs to scan. Mine wasn't scanned correctly, and instead of calling the police to verify they were too lazy and just kicked us out. On top of that, they were incredibly rude through the whole process, accusing me of lying and barking at us to go through a different exit. Needless to say my friends and I won't be going back, but with how the place has been run lately, I think they will be experiencing a large drop in regulars and patrons as it is. read more

Meh. Atmosphere is cool. Waiter was nice enough. But.... Fish & Chips were burnt, but they sent another out that was better. Cob Salad with "chicken" was pretty lame. The chicken is nothing more than a thick cut salty lunch meat. It would've been ok for a weekday sandwich when I brown bag it, but certainly not a restaurant quality chicken product. The Mac n Cheese was as bland as could be. Only thing that wasn't a let down was the kids cheeseburger with fries. Good size portion and my son enjoyed it. No free drinks on kids menu apparently. And there was no free refill on the 2nd soda my kid didn't touch. Beer was cold, but overpriced. $4.50 for a gansett? C'mon. I'm not cheap by any means, but cheap beer should be just that. I still like the tavern but I've given it a 2 star rating as compared to what is was a couple years ago. It's just much more expensive (12 dollar calzones and 6.50 for a beer) and they made radical changes to the menu. The restaurant business is tough and it fluctuates with the economy but when you've got a solid plan in place stick with it. You'll live longer. read more

This bar is a major college hangout for URI. I realize that and can understand that. I really really want to love The Mews especially since I remember it when the tree room was a patio. I don't love it. It's loud. ALL the time. The food is okay. It's not great enough to distract me from the noise and the action like other certain places. The food is too freakin' expensive. I did like the Thai Chicken Wrap that I got and the fries looked hand cut. Still, it didn't distract me from the hullaballoo going on around me. The calamari we got though was a bit chewy and the batter was soggy. And I think I tasted one that was not too fresh. I wasn't going to complain though, I just wanted to finish and LEAVE. The bar on the side is cramped and anxiety inducing. I hate that bar and yet I still go there because my friends have an affinity to that wood closet. I want to love the bar but I DON'T WANT PEOPLE TOUCHING ME UNTIL AFTER I'M 3 SHEETS TO THE WIND! Still they serve Woodchuck Amber so I will keep going with the ones I love. Absolutely love the new menu! Much better than the previous new menu. I got the "pig pen dilla" last week and it was so good I got it again last night. The chourizo, egg and potato burrito is great as well and you can never go wrong with the buffalo chicken mac n'cheese. Of course the best part of the Mews for me is the atmosphere. I have to admit I am perplexed with the glowing reviews this watering hole has received? I understand it is more geared toward locals and tourists, and college kids in for brews and good times, so they will probably rave about this place, but I don't get it? My GF and I hopped in the car and decided to drive, which we do often. She mentioned Mews Tavern based on a friends recommendation, I am not sure they will be friends any longer after this, but anyway, we gave it a shot. It is about a 45 minute ride for us from our place, which we don't mind at all, at least when it is worth the drive. Now, I am going to start with confusion number 1 (#1).. The food! HORRIBLE.. I really am baffled how it has got so many high reviews? I ordered their burger special, it was a burger with Maryland Crab meat and a shrimp on top (so they say it is Maryland Crab Meat).. Anyway, I was starving and ordered it with onion rings, burger medium rare. My girlfriend got the Phili shaved Chicken sub with sweet potato fries.. So, while we are waiting I am looking around at the decor, okay, confusion number 2 (#2) who would say this decor is so wonderful? It is a bunch of old rusty looking decaying dollar bills with marker writing all over them. stapled to the ceiling and walls. I honestly was waiting for some of the bills to start falling off the ceiling on top of me.. They say they have 22 flat screen TVS, only problem is the TVS are tiny and some in areas where it is difficult to see. However, we were not there for any kind of sporting event, so the TVS weren't any kind of issue.. The Mews is multi level so perhaps the bar on the second floor has better TVS? The food came out, presentation looked pretty good. I bit in to the burger, and WAY, WAY over cooked. I would have sent it back but when I write I was starving, I was starving.. So, I trudged ahead, tried some of the Maryland Crab Meat, hmmm, well, if that is fresh Maryland Crab Meat, well then I am the Pope, it was basically flavorless and soaked in some hallondaise sauce. But the burger, good Lord, SO bad. This HAD to be a frozen burger. Look, I was a single guy for a while and often pulled burger patties out of my freezer and cooked them on low heat, and guess what? Exactly what I had for lunch yesterday. Burger was bland, meat just had a really funny taste to it, and again, old and frozen. So many glowing reviews for their Burgers it is surprising to me that this burger was so gross. And, I am a HUGE burger fan, this easily was the worst I have ever had. The Onion Rings, well, they were OK. I thought they were slightly overcooked. My GF loves them really crispy and she said they were really good, so I will give them an OK for the rings. My GF'S Philly Chicken was very good, flavored nicely, and she was happy with her sweet potato fries. To top it all off, I got sick and have been sick most of today.
