Had heard through the years what a good place this was to grab some food. While at our beach house, my daughter, a friend. my husband and I decided to give it a try. First of all, found it expensive and the food was okay, nothing special that would make me want to come back. We had buffalo wings, my husband had the french onion soup and I had a salad with grilled chicken. Also ordered was pulled pork and chicken fingers with fries. My husband also ordered a draft beer. The food was okay, I really liked my salad, it had apples, craisins, etc but it was pricey for a salad. We left the Tavern having spent over $100 on "pub style" food and felt like it was expensive for nothing too special. After looking over the bill, we were surprised to find out the beer my husband ordered cost $6.50. Quite simply, there was no WOW factor that would make me come back to spend that kind of money. read more

Have been back since my last review, and it's still very much of the same. Nachos are good, burgers are a bit weak. I'd rather spend my money at the five guys down the road (which is way cheaper). The only upside is the amount of beers they have on tap. Not gonna be back for a while. read more

Everyone who lives in R.I. know about the Mews. What can I say, it's a great place and also has 2 bars, one upstairs and one downstairs. It gets very busy on the weekends but it is also a treasure for R.I. I go at least once a week. And to top it off 69 beers on tap all the time, with a rotation basically every week or month. Consistently came to the mews from 2006 to 2011. Went back in tonight after not going for 9 months. The menu is changed much less selection, probably a quarter of the menu from a few years ago. They had no high chairs for my baby who I had to feed. This caused for a difficult meal bc we had to hold her the entire time. They were out of a ton of stuff. Our meals were good, but the bill was 70$, for wings and sandwiches! Service wasn't great but they have never been known for having good service. Not nearly as good as 5 years ago. Will go back and sit in the tavern only to drink beers. Very disappointing. read more

We again tried some burgers off the new menu...just not worth the price. Couple that with wings that are sometimes saucy and good and sometimes dry and not flavorful; staff that is sometimes attentive, and sometimes not....I'll go for beer or if friends really want to go but definitely not my first choice anymore. read more

The second stop on our after wedding shenanigans. We had more drinks. And some pizza to nibble so the drinks didn't overwhelm us. My brothers roommate is a bartender here. He was working and provided us with great service. There are several girls working who I went to high school with which is probably why I don't come here that often. I've been coming to the Mews since the mid 90s. I really want to love the place. But after two sub standard visits, here is my review: The "No crap on tap" statement is true regarding their halfway decent beer selection. The same can NOT be said about the slop they push out of the kitchen. Tonight, I had a locally sourced grass fed burger. Too bad it was cooked unevenly (1/2 rare, 1/2 medium well). And it's really too bad they don't hand cut their own french fries. It is self contradictory to have "no crap on tap" but serve slop for food. Update your menu. Serve better food. You're doing a disservice to your beer menu. read more

So we had a really bad experience. I've been going to the Mews for YEARS and when they first opened I was in college. The food was really good. Fast forward 15ish years and food was still pretty good. Over the past 5 years something has changed. My husband, three year old and I got food poisoning after eating dinner at the Mews. We are pretty sure it was the mac n' cheese. Normally I would just let this go, but my three year old asks me on a regular basis if I reviewed the tree rest. as she calls it and declared the rest. as "the bad guys". I have to say getting sick made a huge impact on my daughter. So just go drink beer and stay away from the mac n' cheese. I will say the service was wonderful. read more

This is a must-stop for my family when we are in South County. Must stop as well if it's just me and the bride. Over 60 beers on tap and a rock-solid Pub menu including wood fired pizza oven. Our most recent visit was very busy and we had to wait a long time but it was still worth the wait. Cool atmosphere with a big tree in the middle of the restaurant that everyone writes on in chalk. Neat booths with saloon doors. The pizza is made right in front of you as you wait at the bar. I've been here several times and never been disappointed. I went to URI in the 90's and in my four years I never visited Mews. Say what? Mews Tavern is a great place for beer and a burger as they have a great selection of craft brews, our waitress was knowledgeable about their beers, and my burger was cooked perfectly with a side of delicious onion wings. I'm not a fan of all the dollar bills as it seems like a fire waiting to happen, but I guess that's part of the charm. I really like this place. The different bars make for an interesting atmosphere. Love the dollar bills on the ceiling! I'm not a big beer drinker but my boyfriend loved all the choices. If we had more time, he probably wouldve tried a lot more on the menu! The food is good - good mix of different things. With 69 beers on tap, how can you go wrong? I try to try a new beer everytime, but summer Newport Storm sucks me in sometimes. The menu is quite large and you can always find something delicious. If you like beer half as much as I like beer, you'll love Mew's Tavern. The selection is terrific, and seasonal. The food is above average. But you don't go to Mew's for the food, or else you're not my friend. Sometimes it's filled with local families, sometimes with annoying townies, and sometimes with the dreaded tourists, but stick with the beer and it won't matter. read more

They are highly over-rated. The burgers are not good and the salads are worse. I go b/c it's convenient and they have good nachos. They also have a good beer selection but the food is def sub par. We have much better eateries here in South Kingstown/Narragansett. It's mostly a red neck and college hangout. I had a good pizza once last year though & the dough is freshly made. Seriously, if you are going to make a drive I'd choose Crazy Burger for burgers. I'm going to try a burger at Fat Belly's tomorrow b/c I hear they are good. I love the Mews. I go there more than any other restaurant. Of course, the fact that it's five minutes from my house helps. The beer selection is amazing, the liquor menu extensive(though I usually just stick to beer), and the food delicious. They have some of the best burgers I've ever had, and they're always cooked perfectly. They have reasonable prices and generous portions. You have two bars to choose from, and the one upstairs has live music some nights though it can get really crowded. It's a little calmer in the summer when there aren't as many college kids around. I have a VIP card which so far has paid for an entire meal for me and my bf, drinks and all. Did I mention that I love this place? read more

On our neighbors recommendation brought the family there on Sunday. Was pleasantly surprised with the food and service. The staff where all young kids but very professional and friendly which is all to hard to find these days. The dry rub wings are some of the best I've had. The Mews Tavern is a little bit out of the way from the Providence area, but definitely worth the trip. The Fish and Chips are awesome! Pair them up with the best beer selection in the state and you've got a meal that can't be beat. After two years of not eating wheat. We decided to treat ourselves to a pizza. And drive a hour each way to what was our favorite place when we ate pizza. I'm not from Rhode Island, but every time I come visit (about twice a year), I have to go to Mews. Why? Their Lobsta Mac n' Cheese ($17, but hey, you get a good amount/chunks of lobster... not just 2 small pieces like other restaurants) is absolutely amazing. So creamy and cheesy and delicious. I seriously crave it when I'm back home and wish it were near me! I don't get anything else. I've had their crab dip (also spot on) and their honey buffalo wings (yummy as well!). I wanted to love Mews because their beer selection is awesome. Great variety and delicious beers. The atmosphere is also great. Love the Need Beer Got Beer signs on the table. Cool idea. The food was another story. The taste of my burger was great but I ordered medium well (don't judge) and when it arrive it was medium rare at best.I ate it because I hate sending food back. The fries were very crispy. A friend got a burger she said it was decent at best. Our other friend got a small pizza and he wasn't thrilled by it. He was the one who brought us there raving about the food. Seems like it would be a great place to watch some games and have some apps. read more

Okay place to eat. Not much attention is paid to the food. Got a local RI beef burger and the meat was not seasoned well. I asked for medium rare and got medium well. Iceberg lettuce was the green of choice, which is just not cool. There can be a really long wait at times, which isn't an issue if the food was better. The guys making the pizzas seemed to care more about throwing the pizza dough in the air to make a show than actually making a pizza. My girlfriend got pizza and it was okay. They handle the dough very roughly which makes for a very tough and bad crust. Good pizza dough needs to be massaged into shape not beaten. If you want a burger go to Crazy Burger. You want pizza go to The Bike Stop. You want beer and okay bar food then it is an okay choice to make. read more

I agree about the menu. Not as happy. We ordered a pizza and wanted to make our own. No Gouda and carmelized onion pizza anymore which was a favorite. We asked for meatball and green pepper. There is no listing of topping ingredients for you to choose from. They said there was no meatball but we could get ground beef. When the pizza came the ground beef on it was like taco flavored beef and was not as good. I was disappointed and normally loved the pizzas! Kids menu no longer offers pasta with butter so my kids are not as happy. Will come for the beer choices but I hope the menu changes again for the spring/summer soon. read more

Such a great bar, they have the best beer selection in SK and hands down the best nachos to boot. You have to go.

Mews staff is always friendly and willing to help! The Nachos are great and the calzones are mouth watering. Mews has an unique atmosphere, which adds to the great food. Prices are a little high but overall it is a great place. read more

I guess it is a good bar for South County. The food is super mediocre (the kitchen does not seem to try very hard) and everyone knows it, but this place thrives for the sake of being a local watering hole. "Good for beers with friends, unfortunately, they only had one gluten free. Maybe limit budweiser and put something more local on the menu. Food: May have been my mistake but I ordered a veg burger and they served a stop and shop morning star veg patty, freshly microwaved. Compare that with Max burger's (west Hartford) home made veggie burger with Quinoa, veggies, fresh roll. Same price, different echelon of eating entirely. Real burger wasn't much better. I have been frequenting the Mews for the better part of 20 years. It has grown as far as size, beers are good, menu- blah. They have gone bar all the way and its just ok and kind of overpriced for what it is. There are better places in town! read more

Returned to Mews on 8/10/2013 The place still seems to be under construction, they no long have paper and crayons for the kids. I'm the sure if Mews has changed owner ship in the last year , its just not the same but still good , good food but not very consistent . Are table ordered two Lobster mac and cheese one had more Lobster then you could eat the other all must none. And my Burrito was just wield to many Beans not a lot of chicken? I guess its the little thing that make a great restaurant And I think Mews is going back words. still if your in Rhode Island and want good beer and food if it a try for yourself. read more
