heard so many good things about this place , decided to try it. parking was good . wait time ok (35 mins). seating was a little cramped. the booth may have been for six. but, me and my 2 boys on one side wasn't the best. are app. came fast fried pickels. it was good, we had to ask for plates and napkins. the food came out hot, but my philly cheese was tasteless and not much meat in the bun. my wife and daughter had burgers. they seemed to be the frozen type. not that good. one son had a pizza with chicken. the chicken was shredded and not much of it. last son had the pulled pork. He did enjoy it. on the table is a flip sign for need beer , have beer. i had the need beer out. didn't seem to do anything. the waitress never came back to check on things. we only got silver ware when we asked for it. prices seemed a little high for the amount of food. can't say we will go back. read more

In town, we call it "The Lose." Where else can you spend $6 on a glass of beer and $22 on an average pizza? It doesn't matter if you've been going there for 10 years, or it's your first time in there. The waitstaff and bartenders treat you like you're a nuisance. They turn the music up as the night goes on so that it's deafeningly loud by 11pm or so, so go early if you must, otherwise forget about conversation. Or just skip it. Went on a Saturday night, food was excellent (nachos, fish chips, chicken sandwich etc) we also tried the peanut butter pie for dessert, great. The place was an awesome pub, nice casual dark pub lighting. the beer selection was unreal, so many different beers, and an excellent range at that. The service was awesome. We eat here often-fast service -consistently good food at good prices-Not sure what there is not to like. Beer is the big draw for many folks-I am not a drinker but love their Goober burger, lobster mac and cheese and most of the salads that they have as specials are great too. Took my soon to be hubby to Mew's when Aziz Ansari was in town for a show. Not being from around the area I looked up some places to eat beforehand. With my boo being a beer loving kind of guy, when I saw Mew's website with all the different beers on tap, I knew I found the right place for our pre show dinner!!! We had a mountain of delicious nachos, samplings of MANY beers and both got mouth watering burgers cooked to our liking. This first visit was probably 2 or 3 years ago and we have since been back a handful of times with friends driving over an hour to give them a taste of Mews. The pub with the dollars on the ceiling is perfect for after work beer and they usually have happy hour during the week. Tuesday's burger special is awesome. HIGHLY suggest the Natural Rhody which has the best RI meat from Sunset Farms (LOCAL). It was just ok. A couple ordered calzones which were good sized. The fish and chips were big as well. The Cobb salad was not impressive and the buffalo wings were standard. I went here for the first time last weekend. The décor is wonderful; very unique. Our waitress on Saturday night was very prompt and attentive. The menu has a wide variety of selections. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and I can say, without exaggerating, it was the best quesadilla I have ever have. It was stuffed full of pulled chicken and was abundant in flavor. I would definitely recommended trying Mews Tavern if you're in the area; and I, myself, will be making my way back even though it is a 40 minute drive. read more

I think this is a great spot for burgers, sandwiches, simple food and drinks. My wife had a pasta dish and really enjoyed it. She experimented with trying a couple of their many beer selections. I had a new item on their menu, the turkey burger. It was very delicious and had a smokey flavor to it. I do think the roll could have been a little fancier. Maybe a multigrain, but it still tasted great. The service was solid and we are looking forward to going back again. read more

Looking for a fun Friday happy hour? Mews is the place to be from 4-6. The atmosphere is fun and there are over 60 draft beers to choose from. If you sit downstairs, you may getting lucky and have Crystal as your waitress. She's so nice and attentive and even remembers my friend's beer orders (that's when you know your dedicated to Mew's happy hour). And of course the free pizza is a plus! read more

BEST food around! Worth the trip from Charlestown. Got the thai peanut wings, and a queso-rancho. But the appetizers are killer! Try the pulled pork mac n cheese as well! Sounds gross but it melts in your mouth from all the flavor. Amazing service, great family-friendly setting. read more

The mews is terrific for big group, drinks, pizza, burgers - but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for high quality food or moderate prices. It's a very popular bar food hangout spot and the prices and selection reflect that. But for what it is I think it's a great spot to go get a pizza and drinks with friends. I'll be completely honest, although I tend to heavily rely on reviews when making decisions (what to buy, where to go, what to see, etc) I typically don't write them, I don't really cook, so i tend to eat out at various establishments all across the state at least 5-6 nights a week. Some experiences are great, and others not so good. Going out as often as i do, i tend to expect that. What sets my experience at the Mews Tavern apart from other not so great experiences, and really what compels me to write a review, is what i witnessed in how someone was treated by this establishment. I attended a fundraiser last night (raising money to buy books for kids) in Wakefield, and a group of friends decided to stop by the Mews Tavern to have a drink after to celebrate. The place was packed. There was a group of 4 guys in their mid 20's in front of us as we entered, I was with a party of 5 middle aged people, and there was a group of 4 young, college age girls in line behind us. The 4 guys in front us walk right in. The first 2 people in our party walk in, and then third person, which happens to be the only Black person in line, is stopped, and asked for his ID. The door man checks his ID and proceeds to say it looks he had been drinking, and that he can't let him in. Now, up to this point, we're basically walking in a single file line, up a stairwell, and there was no conversation prior to this moment that would have raised a red flag, or given any indication that he was intoxicated in any way, shape, or form. Obviously my friend thought he was joking, because he clearly wasn't intoxicated. The bouncer thought he was part of a wedding party, and said that they had been drinking prior to arriving there so they were shutting them off and turning them away. Now, I agree my friend does dress nicely, but no one would've confused what he was wearing with someone who was just at a wedding. And considering we entered as a group, if that truly was a concern, why weren't the rest of us stopped and questioned? My friend corrected him and explained we just came from a fundraiser. They laughed, and we proceeded in. The whole interaction was very bizarre. The line continued in. I wasn't stopped. The last person in our party wasn't stopped. And the 4 young girls in line behind us weren't stopped. While at the bar, the doorman approached the bartender, pointed to my friend, and told him not to serve him. The bartender brings refills to the two people sitting at the bar in front of us who were COMPLETELY intoxicated.....like slurring words and almost falling out of their chair when trying to get up. He then tells us that he can get drinks for everyone in our party BUT my friend. Now i understand bars and restaurants have a responsibility to refuse service if someone becomes over-intoxicated, presents a danger, is being rowdy, or harassing other customers, etc. I myself appreciate that, but that clearly wasn't the case here. Not only was my friend not intoxicated, but the bartender just served two completely wasted people, so that obviously throws the case out for not serving him because they "thought" he was intoxicated. And considering the fact that the ONLY person they stopped and asked for ID was the ONLY Black person, i can't help but feel there is some blatant racism going on here. Why would you stop a middle aged Black man and ask for ID, but not the questionably young girls behind us? Or the college age guys in front of us? How can you say you think he's intoxicated before even speaking with him or having an opportunity to interact with him? And if your concern was with a rowdy wedding party, why wouldn't you stop the group of us, instead of singling out the only Black person? You guys can say whatever you want to trying to justify the actions of your employees, but it's all BS. My friend was clearly singled out because of his race, and that's just not acceptable. I definitely won't be going back, and i will certainly share this experience with every organization i'm affiliated with so people are aware of what type of establishment they are supporting should they choose to go here. read more

This appears to be a great place BUT, be CAREFULL I had a COUPLE of BAD experiences! Once it was a FATTY Steak! Another, the "SPECIAL" wonton appitizer tasted like saw dust! YUK! Not the cleanest of places - The restrooms get nasty! And the floor in the bar downstairs is DISGUSTING! I SAY GO THERE AT YOU OWN RISK! I'm not a huge pub guy but this place was an exception. Had been wanting to go because of their on tap beer selections. I enjoyed a limited edition Stone Grapefruit which was fantastic and just as it sounds while my girlfriend had a cherry cidre- tasted just like a Starburst. Food was good nothing out of this world but definitely not bad...did take a little long to come out but service was attentive none the less. read more

We spent hours here in college and I still love it!! It is very consistent and I am a beer girl so its awesome for me! I really like the pizza and 2 for 1 burger night helped my purse when I was a student. I do not know how many beers they have on tap but it is more than any beer lover could ask for and the wings aren't bad either read more

Mews Tavern has a great menu selection, with so many drinks to choose from! My only complaint is the pricing is a little expensive, for a bar. That goes for both drinks and meals. Other than that, it's a great atmosphere, with 2 floors. read more

Beer selection is excellent, but the food is just average. Portions are small. We ordered the larger seven dollar chili versus the cup. An 8 oz cup with finger hole and all arrived. They told me this was the bowl. I'm guessing the cup is a shot glass. I stand corrected that the "bowl" is actually a 12 oz CUP filled with 9+ ounces of chili. You need to change that presentation or how you advertise that in your menu. To be fair to the restaurant, the cup of chili was rich with superior cuts of meat in it, but they should simply state the ounces in the serving if they are going to call a cup (it is not a real crock) a "bowl." read more

I love the idea of the Mews but there seems to be a slight issue with execution. Sometimes I feel like the place just has gotten too big for its britches so to speak. I took a trip down to Wakefield for my birthday celebration this past Friday. Pros as always is that Mews has 69 beers on tap so you never get bored and if you love beer then in turn you love Mews. I am not normally a beer drinker but with this level of variety I go for it whenever I am there. I had a pomegranate wheat beer and it was delicious. The food is also pretty good. I had onion rings and "The Mews" pizza. The onion rings were perfect and the pizza was alright. It was not the most amazing pizza ever but it had good tomato and basil flavors and was not overcooked. The cons were the wait, they don't take reservations or do any type of call ahead seating so we had to wait about 50 minutes for a table for 10. The server refused to split our checks and made paying the bill needlessly complicated. The server also did not take our orders in a timely manner or at the same time for that matter. Half of the party had their appetizers while the other half was ordering them. On a positive note she did make sure that we all had our beers and always asked if we needed anything else once everything was provided to the table. This is a once in awhile type of place for me. It can be really loud and really busy so not an overall relaxing experience but defiantly something to be tried if you are in the area. read more

I am new to Wakefield so don't think I'm biased. Usually, I don't report bad things about any restaurant cos a) it could have been a bad coincidence and b) I'm too lazy. I have frequented MEWS thrice and I was terribly disappointed every time. I understand that it's a bar kind of setting but if you have a dine-in you cannot ignore a person sitting at a vacant table right in front of the bar. The waitresses wouldn't even care to look back even when I raised my hand. The last time i went, I had to wait for 40 mins to even get somebody to take my order. By the end of this i was too tired and hungry to go to a different place. I went to the bar and yelled to beckon a waitress and they closed the kitchen. I had to return after having a beer. I couldn't give in two and a half... so I will have to give it a three. (Based on the wide variety of beer) I have been to the Mews about a dozen times over the past 20 years... Yes, the first time I went there it was just the old "tavern" area and one dining area (with the huge tree)... although back then, that area had no tree, and was considered a "temporary" structure. It was nothing more than a hard sided tent with rubber floors. My wife and I were drawn there by the RI Magazine rating of the "Best Calamari in RI". Back then, it truly was the best... Today, we noted that the Calamari was about half the size as the "old" days, it was also overdone and NO WHERE near the quality. We also had burgers, that I would rate as "OK" at best. When I was there a few years back, the pizza oven was heated by real hardwood. The pizza was outstanding. Although I didn't have pizza today, I noted that the oven is now heated by gas. To sum it up... the food at the Mews in on a downward spiral... the only reason I gave it (two and a half) three stars is for the beverages... I have never been to a place with such a wide choice of cold fresh draft beer. The next time in South County, skip the Mews. read more

What in Gods name happened here? I used to love this place and came here a lot until my wife was really pregnant and we had a newborn. In that time the menu changed and the service went to hell. Who is the marketing genius who took the tacos off the menu? Do you not realize that you have a whole menu with everything used to make the tacos? what are you saving? Additionally, how many short-rib $20 stroganoff's are you selling to college students? Smoked chicken on a salad...no. Not impressed by the changes. We recently visited Mew's . We have been coming here for years. Lately, each time we come we feel like we are not getting our money's worth. The menu is much smaller. I always used to order a Thai chicken salad wrap. That is no longer offered. Great selection of beers, but my husband's draft of a local beer cost 6.50! That is just ridiculous. What we did get for food was OK, but kind of overpriced. A calzone was 12.00. Doesn't come with fries or salad or anything. It was very big,but 12.00 felt excessive. Sadly, we will probably not be returning to Mews. read more

I have been going to Mews for 20 years....when there were bands in the corner of the bar, way before the boys bought the bar. I still loved it after that and even recommended it to many of my friend... but the times are changing... My wife and I stop in on Saturday afternoon 1pm for lunch. The place had people in it but was not busy... ordered our food and beer... we received our beer quickly then waited at least 40 min. for a burger and a chicken sandwich. My wife ordered a stuffed hamburger which came and looked like a round softball of burger on a bud. She could not eat it that way instead had to cut the burger and bud into smaller pieces..It was not what she ordered and was $14.00, not worth it. I ordered a grill chicken sandwich with hot peppers on it. my favorite "Lucifer's lunch", which they took off the menu. The chicken was dry, over cooked and not worth the 14.00 they charged. For $40.00 lunch, way over priced, long wait time and food that was barely good. we will not go back after 20 years you have overpriced me for what you served, prediction Mews will be gone unless it changes back to the friendly bar with reasonable food choices. I write this after countless times at mews- as a Wakefield local I've watched mews become this overly salient and bland TGIfridays style restaurant catered to tourists. The food is less bold and not as "home made". The beer specials have gone away, the prices are higher and the quality is lower. I'm not sure who's making these decisions but mews is slowly becoming another run of the mill tourist attraction. All they need to do is ditch happy hour and I would have no reason to come back. The new caprese salad was 12$ for four slices of tomato, some prosciutto, and some poorly made mozzeralla. I changed my rating from five starts to two stars. read more
