We went to Mezza Luna for our Thanksgiving dinner and did not have a reservation. Staff made sure we got a seating and from there on out it was continued perfect service from everyone! They could not have been more attentive and the restaurant was packed with holiday diners. The food was excellent, fresh and served with a lot of attention to detail. I dislike leaving bad reviews, but this one is definitely well deserved. My wife has been going to Mezza Luna for 25 years, and likes their food. So we decided to go there for dinner, food was good and service was also good... until my wife forgot her phone on the window sill by our table, within seconds of getting in the car we realized it was missing so she ran back inside and all the waiters denied seeing a phone (in a weird way and an off vibe), she came back outside I tracked her phone and it was 100% inside, she ran back inside and they still said it wasn't there, however the moment she said that we just tracked it and it's definitely in here. The manager was like ohh maybe it's in the table cloth inside (LOL OKAY) so the waiter cleared the table, grabbed the phone from the window sill and put it inside the table cloth, sounds VERY logical! Anyway he disappears inside and comes out with the phone in his hand. Very shady, and I'm pretty sure this is not the first time they pull something like this off. The ambiance is lovely, we had a view of the harbor, service was very good, feels like an upscale dining experience. The pricing was surprisingly reasonable, with good quantities of food. All of that said, the Caesar salad was shockingly disappointing. As though someone took a bland pre-made Caesar dressing and watered it down. My husband had the swordfish special (not pictured on the board because it sold out after we ordered), which we were both excited for, and it was just okay. The cut was rather thin, which neither of us expected. In our experience, swordfish steaks are usually quite thick. We also ordered calamari, which was average. I came here for work dinner with a table of 15 or so, and boy, were they on it! They did such an amazing job with the service.We always had a full glass of water and drinks. Everything was quick to come out, from bread service, appetizer, drinks, dinner, and desserts. With my dairy allergy, our server was able to help accommodate my order for their new York strip steak and substitute with a side of pasta tossed in garlic and olive oils. The steak was amazing, full of flavor, and topped off with a chimmchurrie sauce. I'd fly there again just for the steak alone! I also ordered their seafood salad, and that was decent. For dessert, I ordered a whiskey, which was on standard ice. I would recommend ice molds, just so the whiskey doesn't get watered down too fast. Came here for Easter Lunch around 2pm with reservation. They gave us a table in the room with lots of windows and a view of the bay which i loved! Alot of the waiters r burly italian men loll! With younger bussing staff as well. I enjoyed the leisurely timing of our serving coming to take our order, bread and waters being dropped off as well. We ordered the organic mixed greens salad & calamari to start, and chianti and the white wine the waiter suggested which was really smooth and delicious! Mains we ordered the fettuccine bolognese and baby goat dish. The bolognese was delicious with what looked like homemade noodles? First time trying baby goat and it was tender and a little gamey and good with the sauce and potatoes. For dessert we got the lattes and it was so good. The thick foam on top was enjoyable to drink. The airflow and space in this restaurant feels very nice and not stuffy and the view is great along with the delicious food and service. I def want to come back!! read more

Went for the first time, let's just say not the best experience.. I get it was Valentine's Day but even the desert which was tiramisu and the gelato shouldn't have taken 20 minutes to get to us. Got to the reservations on time and in total spent 3 1/2 hours there just waiting on someone to serve us. I had 3 different waiters and the person who was supposedly our waiter passed by us multiple times and ignored us. All we wanted to do at that point was pay and leave. The food was bland over cooked and everything needed salt.. for a 3 course meal I was very disappointed considering I've had better Italian for way cheaper. For my birthday, we escaped to Half Moon Bay for the weekend, and we kicked it off with an outstanding dinner at Mezza Luna, a large white linen eatery with great ambiance. We had salmon carpaccio for an appetizer, thin strips of beautiful, chilled salmon, with a hint of olive oil and some dill sprinkled over it. The dish itself did not come with any bread, which was curious, but we had bread on the table of course, so we used that. It was a wonderful start to our dinner. We split a Caesar salad, which was refreshing, and then we did something we hardly ever do -- we both had the same main dish: linguine with clams in white sauce. This dish, simple as it may be, was perfectly executed. The house made pasta was hot and al dente, the clams were steaming in their shells, the seasoning in the broth was briny and peppery. A little parmesan over the top, and we were all set. We selected a really good Pinot Noir (MacMurray Vineyards, Russian River, 2021 for $56) and enjoyed fun conversation reflecting on the last four months, and marveled at the whole meal -- the setting, the food, the wine, and most of all, the fun of being together and away from other pressing responsibilities. We ordered a dessert of beignets, but before it arrived, our waiter and the hostess who had seated us and another busboy came over with a scoop of ice cream with a candle and sang Happy Birthday. It was very nice, and I went in for a taste of what I figured was vanilla ice cream only to find that it was the most delicious gelato I have ever tasted. What was that flavor, I asked? It was passion fruit. A little sweetness with a fruity bite, it was delish. The beignets were nice too, but that gelato was the taste I'm going to remember. read more

Wow where do I start? This place is such a gem. My family and I were in the area and we were deciding where to go, my wife was craving for pasta so we chose Mezza Luna. We booked a reservation and were seated promptly. The staff was great and the server took our order of drinks and offered bread and butter. We chatted for a bit and enjoyed our drinks before the food arrived. The salmon carpaccio was great, it had a nice smoky aroma and practically melted in your mouth. The fettuccine Alfredo was amazing and satisfied my wife's cravings! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was creamy and tasted unique compared to other alfredos I've had. The lasagna was a hit for me and I practically finished the whole thing to myself and scraped the sauce off with the bread! The halibut was okay as I'm not too big on fish but my family enjoyed it and the potato slices that came with it. Finally, the crème brûlée hit the spot for desert. It was sweet but in a good way and the top had a nice crunch. I would recommend whoever is in the area to try this restaurant out! read more

One of the worst meals and nothing Italian about it. The salad had one tomato and one slice of carrot. The pasta was out of the box, no sauce, no flavor, some tiny pieces of mushroom. Really bad. Came back to Mezza Luna to dine with hubs' Godson, wife and kids. They live in the area and it's conveniently located and has good food. It's a very convivial place where you can have parties, whether on a date, tourist as well as having a great family-oriented vibe. We had small kids this time so it was interesting how they'd handle it and they did well and were well-behaved. We sat in the same area with a nice view and smaller room and there was another bigger party that had a child who ran around at some point with a high voice but the parent snagged him. All was well the rest of the night. We were given a couple of high chairs and aside from a couple of bread slices on the floor from the kids, all was well and no big mishaps. We sat by the window and by a curtain-partition where the baby was situated in the stroller so that was nice, quiet and a good barrier between other tables and the other section. She slept the whole time so we felt like we were in a little nook. We sat ahead of the kids who were on their way and has asked the waiter to go ahead and order Fettuccine Alfredo so the kids could eat once they arrived. The parents brought plastic plates with sections for the food so the kids were familiar with that. The waiters didn't mind. Once the family arrived with the kids, the noodles were ready as well as the bread brought on the table. It had butter pats and olive oil/balsamic vinegar duo bottles for dipping bread. The place was getting busy with patrons and seemed like a lot of people were in the mood for Italian food on this President's Day Monday. We chose for dinner: SALSICCE CON POLENTA homemade pork sausage, bell pepper, tomato, onion, over polenta. Pretty tasty and a fav for Godson. PENNE BOLOGNESE homemade pasta with our famous meat sauce (top sirloin). Chunky meat sauce. LASAGNA homemade lasagna pasta layered with top sirloin tomato meat sauce and cheese. (Ratio of meat sauce to noodles was low. Kirkland brand and Maggiano's has more meat sauce.) CALAMARI DORÉ tender calamari steak sauteed with lemon, capers and white wine; served with broccoli and mashed potatoes today for me. (Totally yummy like last time! Always a favorite when I'm in the Bay Area) Also, a couple of people ordered Caesar salads to start. Drinks: 2 Proseccos for me & the rest rest had root beer and Coca Cola; Dessert: Bigne Mezza Luna: 4 small custard-filled pastry puffs, drizzled with dark chocolate ganache and Fragola: strawberry ice cream on a white chocolate cheesecake base; The Bigne seemed small but I guess as a dessert that's a guilt-free portion, Waiters were attentive and left us alone. The hostess welcomed me warmly and with a smile at the entrance. I ordered a Margherita pizza and an NA Bellini drink. I had asked to add olives to the pizza, but I think the olives they added were extremely salty and made the pizza so bad that I couldn't enjoy it. I told the waiter, and he offered to make a new one, but I declined. Five minutes later, I saw that the waiter, Israel( I'm not sure did I spell it correctly ) came with a new pizza. While I had thought I wouldn't come here again, this completely changed my mind. The second pizza was really good. They also bring butter and bread as soon as you sit down. I've wanted to go here for a long time. My friend and I went to half moon bay for the weekend and made reservations to eat here Saturday night. I ordered the special of the day, ziti in a tomato cream sauce with rock shrimp and scallops. Staff generously adds Parmesan cheese as it's grated in a bowl. My friends pasta primavera was also very tasty. We had two desserts as well, crème brûlée and the Bignes which are basically cream puffs. Highly recommend this restaurant for a dinner with friends or family. This place is a really cute quiet date night spot. The food was really good and fresh!I have to say me and my boyfriend have had the worst luck the last 5 places we went to for service and this place was a breath of fresh air. When we walked in, my reservation was ready and she sat us to the table. Not to long after that we were created by our server who was happy and knowledgeable about everything. He let us know the specials and answered all of questions with no inconvenience. The restaurant had great team work, whenever our water was low or plate was empty, someone walking by would clear it off table. We talked to the people next to us and they said there are a ton of regulars that go there and it's a neighborhood favorite. Oh sure, I've been here before. Years and years ago for some company offsite I had to attend if I wanted to keep my job. I remember the large banquet room and being forced to do karaoke. I had to sing "White Wedding" or was it "Dancing with Myself"? It isn't a pleasant memory. But I must've finally got over it since I came in for a late lunch after a long walk from the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve up in Moss Beach. It was pretty empty after 2PM when I arrived. Even though they close at 2:30 during the week to prepare for their dinner service, they gladly welcomed my business. No pizza or pasta for me. It's been a long time since my "White Wedding" days, but I still need to fit into the gown if you know what I mean. I stuck with a soup and salad combination and started with the $13 Zuppa del Giorno. My salad was the $18 Insalata Mezzaluna, which was clearly their signature salad as the organic mixed greens were covered with a sizable mound of fresh shrimp, calamari, scallops, and even pieces of bacon. Blondie and I had very disappointing grilled cheese at our last HMB visit, so we convinced ourselves that we were hungry again two hours later. We drove north from downtown HMB, and they pointed out how much they like pasta. Mezza Luna has a full service location, not to be confused (as we did) with a satellite cafe. It's my dad's kind of place. Cocktails during the appetizer, wine with the meal, and standards on the audio. We had a table by the window, facing the marina. It was fascinating to see the fog roll in so quickly! Nice classy atmosphere, accompanied by very good food. I'd compare it to Cafe Zoetrope. In fact, I got the same dish here that I usually get there - linguine vongole. Blondie wanted a capellini dish, but with a different pasta type instead. Done. My old fashioned wasn't bad, but the house chianti was quite tasty. Well priced too. The bruschetta for appetizer was pretty good, could have used a little extra flavor, like more balsamic or something. My linguine was perfectly cooked, and the clams were plentiful. Mezza Luna restaurant has been an active restaurant for 30 years. The owners are the kindest people you will ever meet and the food is always flavorful and fresh. It is a large restaurant with multiple rooms that hosts big parties or small groups. I took a family member who was visiting for their birthday and they gave a delicious birthday dessert of their choice (not pictured but crème brûlée). Not only is the restaurant fabulous, there is also a nearby Cafe called the Mezza Luna cafe which is a smaller branch of this restaurant with many similar items for breakfast, lunch and gelato. read more
