We were in Half moon bay recently and after checking reviews and local recommendations we decided to have dinner at this place. We got there about 30 mins before our reservation and we were seated immediately. We ordered Spaghetti con Gamberoni, Fettuccine Alfredo, Ravioli Mezza Luna, and Pollo Saltimbocca. We loved all our dishes, the pasta was great, seafood fresh. We liked the portion sizes, we could actually finish our plates. For dessert, we got Cioccolato, Bigne Mezza Luna, and a couple different flavors of gelato (lemon, and I don't remember the 2nd, it was a combination of 3 flavors). We loved our desserts. We would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Half moon bay. read more

The staff never fails to make us feel at home, the food is consistently great, fish is fresh and perfectly cooked. Recently held a wedding reception in the fireplace room. So intimate and successfully handled by the friendly, accommodating staff. Our 50th anniversary 16 years ago afforded us the same atmosphere and family like ambiance. The wine was good. The charcuterie entrée was ridiculous, they should be ashamed of calling that a charcuterie board, I laughed when the waiter brought to the table. I had the Veal Piccata and the sides were green beans and a scoop of mash potatoes, sad side for a veal plate, very small portions if you are really hungry. read more

Casual Italian restaurant located in the city of Half Moon Bay within sight of the Monterey Bay just south of the San Francisco Bay Area. Yes baby, you know you're on the coast when you're surrounded by Bays BAE. Ok back to reality. Mezza Luna is located a block away from the water and you can see the water across an empty field when situated at a window table. The restaurant is bright, airy, loaded with windows and painted in pastels. Private parking lot with numerous spaces gives you peace of mind from the ever roaming parking patrol. We made midday reservations for a Friday and were promptly seated by the hostess at a round table at a window. Menu, water, and sourdough bread quickly brought to the table. There are two menus - specials of the day and their everyday menu. I had planned on getting my favorite - Calamari Dore but opted for a special of the day. Wifey had pasta from the everyday menu. We had: - Insalata Mista which is plenty for two people, they split without our asking. - Calamari Fritte with Tartar Sauce which had a good combo of legs and rings, more than enough for two and we brought some home. Perfectly fried and not overly greasy. Would benefit a side of spicy cocktail sauce to complement the tartar sauce. - Seafood Risotto which had a tasty seafood umami to it with a single large prawn (wish there were two), scallops, clams, mussels, and calamari. The special was filling and I took a third home for later. The Arborio rice was perfect. - Penne Calabrese with homemade sausage and mushrooms, wife loves cheese and they were happy to oblige with spoons of cheese on top. Has a bit of a spicy kick to it as you would want in a tomato sauce Calabrese. We also brought a third home for later. Overall, ML is a good choice for Italian and Seafood if you're hanging in Half Moon Bay. So I was a Tuesday's regular back when they had a Tuesday special...that was a deal. Alas it's gone. But the service the food and the general Vibe remain. Stop in once a month or so and have landed on the salmon with green peppercorns, the old fashioned, and a small green salad. My first review for 2023 would have to go to this spot for their delicious Italian food. A great friend of mine who's been coming here for years recommended this restaurant, and it did not disappoint! Ambiance: 4/5 Plenty of parking at the back of the restaurant. My friends and I came on a rainy Monday night, which means it wasn't too busy to begin with but got more packed as it got later in the night. There is a good amount of seating for both large and small parties in this somewhat dim and spacious restaurant off the coast. Food: 5/5 First off, the food we ordered were all so delicious. You'd have no problem picking out a dish off their large menu with plenty of options to choose from. - For appetizer, we just had to get the Bruschetta, it was a pretty good yet typical refreshing and light starter. - For entrees, we all got pasta dishes: Fettuccine Alfredo with Prawns (creamy goodness), Penne Alla Calabrese (penne with tasty meaty sauce), and Farfalle Salmone (delicious not-so-fishy seafood pasta). All were so dang good! - For dessert, tiramisu was perfect to cleanse out palettes. Service: 5/5 All the staff were friendly and attentive even though it was really busy. The food also came out pretty quickly, so the service was great. We dined here for the first time for my birthday dinner. We are regular visitors to HMB but we've never had dinner here before. I wanted to try it! We sat at the bar and had really good service. We started with bruschetta which was delicious and bread was perfectly grilled. I ordered the Capellini Pomodoro which was light and clean. My snobby Chef wife (who always refused to try this restaurant) had the polenta and meatballs. She wouldn't shut up about how good they were! She was impressed. We arrived at Mezza Luna when they opened; we understand we will have to wait. We did not have a reservation, we are always happy to sit at the bar. We shared a salad and a pasta; our intention was to make it to Sam's for Chowder so we were ordering light. The food was what we expected, thank you for splitting our pasta for us. When a Latino couple orders (light) do you always point at the bread and butter and say enjoy your chips and salsa? Many years have passed since I've been to Mezza Luna but I visited for a weekend and I had to order my favorite dish -- the stuffed chicken with seasonal vegetables. I was so disappointed to learn they no longer serve this dish, but they suggested an alternative so I give it a chance. I ordered my alternative to-go and again, I was disappointed with the food packaging and I was very disappointed with the $30 plate. It wasn't worth $30 whatsoever and the dish was bland in taste. The front guy made us feel a little less than because we didn't have a reservation, and we didn't realize how fancy the place is but the decor and atmosphere was very welcoming once we were seated. The view of the ocean was so pleasant to look at. I ordered the salmon stuffed ravioli and my husband got the penne calabrese (spaghetti meatballs). On an impulse we headed to Half moon Bay and chose this restaurant for a nice lunch. Prices were ok - Lots of pasta is in the $20 range, which was acceptable. They served no bread until they served the meals. I had wine with my meal and asked for a 2nd glass. I had to remind the waiter 10 minutes later I was still waiting. No refills on water. I had to ask. They brought us doggy containers. The person said "would you like a bag?" We said "yes" and he never returned with one. My gf orders Linguine della Baia which has "clams, calamari, scallops, shrimp" - it came with 4 calamari and 1 scallop and she didn't like the Calamari. I was hoping for better. And for the record, they were not packed. Plenty of open tables for the lack of attention we got. With so much competition along the coast, we won't be back. Alright - last edit on this. I see owner of the restaurant likes to shift the blame of a bad dining experience on to the customer for not speaking up. I don't go into a restaurant to train the servers how to do their job, and I certainly am not going to tell the chefs how to do their job. It's a given they should know to server, check, bring bread, refill water, ask if we want another wine...and by the way our waiter NEVER checked in to see how we were enjoying the food. Solid Italian-American fare at this spot. GREAT location overlooking the waterfront. We had calamari fritti and salmon carpaccio for appetizers...both delish! My friend had the gnocchi Gorgonzola and I had the pasta special of artichoke lasagna. Both were quite delicious. Mezza Luna is a nice place to end up after a day at the beach. The ambiance is nice, sorta dim, perhaps ideal for a date! I was immediately impressed by the service. The servers were always attentive and greeted us cordially. They did their best to fulfill our requests whether it be asking for different types of tea, or coffee, or even soft drinks. Given that my group made a reservation, each seat was nicely decorated and our 3 course meal was laid out in front of us, allowing us to choose one of 3 entrees. In terms of quantity this place was more than enough considering you could ask for free refills of bread, on top of your 3 course meal. But in terms of quality Id say this place is decent. I do acknowledge that they were catering each meal for our group of 40+, so consequently quality may have tanked. But I feel like I am just being picky . In any case, I feel like the service and presentation really made up for any respect in which the food may have lacked. I can see how this place would be pretty ideal for a date :). Do give it a try! Walking along the shore of half Moon Bay my boyfriend and I found this quaint little place! We were able to have an early dinner and sit by the window and watch the waves. A lot of interesting old fashion cars were driving by hauling boats and other equipment so it was interesting to see the Half Moon Bay neighborhood out and about. We shared two plates, the muscles and some salmon ravioli. Both filled us completely! The muscles had a white wine tomato sauce that soaked into their bread! The salmon was perfectly creamy and very fresh tasting! For me, I thought the ravioli tasted a little stiff, since the salmon inside was so soft and moist. My boyfriend thought they had a good collaboration since the salmon was soft and the texture was harder with the ravioli pasta itself. I loved both dishes regardless! Their bread was also amazing!! I want a dessert but I was so full from eating all the bread and soaking up the delicious sauce that we couldn't stomach anything else! Lol I guess will have to go back!!! read more

This spot was so cute, and pretty solid! The customer service was also really great! We went on Valentine's Day so there was a prefix menu which was nice for sampling. We got the clam chowders to start and that was just ok nothing amazing but done really well! Then for entree we had a salmon dish and a lasagna and both were awesome! I was surprised how tender the salmon was. The lasagna noodles were thin and cooked aldente.the dessert was what stole the show for us! We both got cream puffs and the filling inside was to die for! Been coming here for years. My favorite restaurant. Food is excellent. Service is consistently good. My husband and I like to sit in the bar area. There are tvs there usually playing sports. We love the fried calamari and salads. The pizzas are so good. My favorite entrees are the calamari steak, gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce ( try it. You will not be disappointed) and salmon alla dolores (the sauce is so freakin good and salmon cooked perfectly every time). Great wine selection and cocktails. Delicious desserts. My husband and I took an end of the yr trip to Half Moon Bay and dined here in NY Eve. I made a reservation for 6pm! We walked over to the restaurant from our hotel. It's a nice stroll As we arrived several other parties did as well. We were helped right away and seated shortly after checking in. Place was nice and clean! Servers were really tentative and observant! They came to deliver the complimentary homemade bread with oil and balsamic vingar. We ordered calamari as our appetizer with a glass of wine! The calamari was some of the best I've had before. For our main meal I had Penne pasta with eggplant and my husband had a pepperoni pizza. I could taste the wood on the pasta, I assume they used a wood burning oven. If you're in the area.. do yourself a favor and check this place out! You will not be disappointed!! read more
