I really like their food, especially their brisket taco's. I agree with the other reviewers that their food is pretty expensive for tex-mex and it seems geared towards the yuppie crowds. The service has been good but a minus that when we were a party of 5, the waiter assumed we would want everything on one bill and didn't ask us. This place was okay, I wasn't blown out of the water by it and I can't pinpoint anything particularly wrong, other than their completely out of proportion delivery of salsa to chips. For four people we each got a salsa bowl and then a single, tiny bowl of chips. It took a while for it to get refilled (only once) and then I guess we had used up our refills and sat staring forlornly at an empty bowl the rest of the meal. Even my dramatic sighs while wobbling the bowl did not seem to alert our waiter to my tragic circumstances. But, alas, we move on. I got the tacos "de brisket" along with three other people at my table and we all had the same reaction. First, there were just two, which is an okay portion for lunch, but for a dinner meal I'd definitely want three. They were kind of tasty, but the onion and peppers inside were so large it was actually hard to eat. One of the veggies on it must have been moist as well because the tacos were dripping water onto the plate. I think the meat was delicious, but everything else was meh. Rice was very plain to me and without flavor, so not "bad" but not "woohoo!" either. My coworker got a vegetarian taco and I think she spent 5 minutes explaining what "no meat" meant. It was almost comical at a point. Overall, this is not a place I'd tell people to avoid, but I'm going to suggest other places first. read more

There is a saying in the restaurant business, "The dining experience begins in the parking lot and escalates to the customers exit." I rarely base a rating on service unless the problem seems based on policy or the systems in place. I understand the desire to not seat a party when not everyone is at the restaurant...why have 1-2 people hold a 6 top? When 3 of 4 are standing at the check in stand and the 4th is parking the car - this is not the time for a greeter to become the Soup Nazi. There is a right way to enforce the rule and it takes training and practice. When done poorly it sours the experience to follow. Food was only just short of 'really good'. There are a number of Mexican/Latin restaurants that serve comparable food. I'll stick with them when I'm back in town. read more

I'm from West Texas where we have really spicy salsa. I ordered a lunch plate of a taco, cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The salsa was not what I am used to, not spicy enough and the taco had the lettuce, tomato and cheese on the side with some weird dressing on it. This is my husband and I's go to location if we choose to eat at Mi Cocina. The hostess was very nice. She came to the table to speak to us and carry on a genuine conversation. I got the ground beef and cheese nachos and my husband got the fajitas. Both entrees were very good. My only complaint was it took the server forever to come back with our to go containers. Other than that I would definitely come back. The restaurant abided by the 6 foot distance rules. They have X's on the tables you can't sit at. read more

Unfortunately my family and I had another disappointing experience here based off food. The drinks are always great but cold chips aren't so great. Ordered a guacamole for an appetizer and yet half of the plate was a large piece of avocado. Had to smash it ourselves. Meh. Ordered the shrimp brochette and to my dismay it was raw bacon again. Initially they were rude on the phone. My wife and went and picked up to go, I ordered while she was heading that way. Paid for extra beef to our fajitas and expressed that we were a family of four two little ones and asked for a extra extra tortillas and cheddar cheese.we also ordered enchiladas. The food is always tasty but since they now put the food in yourtrunk it is almost like they plan on not putting everything in your bag. We had nothing with our fajitas. Nothing that I had asked for. I called back hoping for some reconciliation and was told they would take $12 off the order. Bottom line is I did not get what I had asked for and clearly they thought $12 was a sufficient way to earn my business back, honestly they do not have well trained employees managing their restaurant as if hey just bought the fajitas I would of been happy. $12 is a joke. read more

Did you know the shrimp fajitas were $20 and only included about 6 shrimp with what must have been an entire onion of fried onion strings? That's it. Nothing else. A huge pile of freaking onion strings. What?! I worked my way around them to find the shrimp and moved on... I did ask for two desserts to go as wanted to try their tres leches cake. My husband loves it so thought I would bring home not one, but two, of those just for him as a surprise. So excited about this and couldn't wait until I got home and opened the dessert bag and box.... insert really sad face here when I discovered two pieces of chocolate cake. Very sad. It's for people to just come and eat or have something to fill their stomach because there's no other good Mexican place near by to choose from in that neighborhood. Came here with a group from work and were seated in the back room. it was nice as we basically had the room to ourselves. Good experience. Since we were with a big group, we tried a lot of different things. I think that we ate them out of chips and salsa. As I always say, you can tell a lot about a mexican restaurant by its chips and salsa. Salsa was good with a nice flavor. We also had the queso and guacamole. The guacamole was better than the queso. For dinner I had the carne asada (this is my go to at mexican restaurants) and it was good. You knew that you were in texas by the meat. Good overall. Service and atmosphere were good. I will say that anytime you have a group over 6, the service makes the meal. We kept them busy with drinks, chips and salsa. They responded well and were timely with everything. This is my second time at this location. The first time was amazing and the service by kyle was wonderful. I came here and asked for kyle again but was told that isn't possible by the host Anita. I was very disappointed to say the least. But My girls and I decided to stay and eat. Our server was Adan and I'm sorry to say I wasn't very pleased with his service. I sat outside and I kept having to ask kyle for things because he was the only one paying attention to us. The food came out cold and wasn't very tasteful because of the temperature of it. The service wasn't outstanding by any means and quite frankly the waiter and I may have exchanged close to 5 words the entire time. I ordered the chopped salad "Ricardo style" with spicy bleu cheese and they didn't put chicken in it. It was tasty as usual but where was the chicken? The waiter took forever bringing our checks and the place wasn't busy. Very interesting experience to say the least. I would like to thank Mi cocina for their warm hospitality and great service. Since last week of trying them I have been 5 times in total. Each time with great welcoming and service. The way this facility functions says much about the standards and well balanced management within this facility. I would like to give Anita the hostes a great shout out of appreciation for being so kind and welcoming every time I have arrived. It was the first time I have been offered something to drink while in a waiting area. She was also kind with recommendations and transparency. Anita Gracias por todo. I would also like to give a warm appreciation for Sandra and her great service every time I have had her as a server. Lastly I would like to think Debra for her Initiative in helping things run smoothly. As she was not my server but what appeared to be of management, she assisted the servers with ensuring things ran smoothly, wether that was asking for refills, helping out with getting checks quicker and even kindly speaking with different tables. Great ambiance and great food! I personally enjoy the salads,fajitas and all the great salsa options.
