I would not recommend this place at all. Completely overpriced. The chips and salsa are bag cups and canned salsa, so that gives you an idea of the taste. The queso is weak. Not Mexican, not Tex-MEX. The Mambo Taxi was quite ~taxing~ on my blood alcohol level. Oh baby she was strong! This frozen delight is swirled with Margarita and Sangria. Beyond the amazing drink experience, the food here was incredible. They start you off with some chips and salsa and the salsa had the perfect lil bite to it. Huge portion sizes, bold flavors, overall great. The ONLY reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of five is the fajitas. Fajitas are probably my favorite food in the universe and I was a little taken aback when they arrived because the fajita plate was 95% onions. Don't get me wrong, I love me some fajita onions, but I also enjoy other veggies as well. There were literally three slices of green bell pepper mixed in the pile of onions. The plus side of the fajitas is that they come with 6 tortillas! I've never received more than three so that's pretty ballin. In every other way this place deserves the five star rating. SO GOOD. Mi Cocina is my go-to for higher end Mexican cuisine. Two words are all that need to be said as to why its my first choice: Sunset Fajitas. You take normal Fajitas (half chicken/half beef) and you put them on a bed of melted cheese and cover with fried onion strings which are delightfully surrounding a mound of rice. Then you add guacamole on the side with their warm flour tortillas and you have the best meal that was created South of the border. I have tried other food there but nothing reaches the pinnacle of the Sunset Fajitas in my humble opinion. They do charge you per soda that you order and they give you a single can, I don't mind but co-workers I have get furious about it. I guess their pending diabetes flares up when they get only one can of Dr. Pepper. The chips are a little bit thicker than most chips and the salsa is decent with a good degree of heat. The lunch crowd generally gets crowded and it can be a little cramped but the atmosphere is high-end and there are at least a couple of attractive women there. They have a clean porch with heaters but the seats outside are a little narrow for some and can be uncomfortable. Other than that there is no better meal and spot to eat on a nice sunny day. The service is generally very fast and responsive, the only gripe I've ever had is that the fajitas never come with enough tortillas and I always have to ask for more. The waitstaff is pretty motivated to get you in and out quickly because a crowd tends to back up at the front door. Overall: The food is high quality-yum, especially the fajitas. The service is snappy and efficient. It gets a tiny bit packed during high volume time, but the decor is nice and comfortable; the patio is fantastic. Downsides include: canned sodas, could bit a bit pricey for cheapos, and patio chairs and the restaurant itself can be a bit cramped. read more

I'm not a snob about Mexican food. That being said, I can't stand slop Mexican, which is the real greasy Mexican that sticks with you the rest of the day and makes you go brap. Mi Cocina is a chain restaurant, true, but it's not like El Fenix. It's clean, non-greasy food that has lightening fast service. The presentation is simple, but elegant, and the food is served piping hot. They do pull the pay-by-the-can routine when ordering sodas, and the soda prices as in line with a 2 liter. But that's OK. You'll end up getting out of there for a reasonable price (unless, of course, you have real drinks). For lunch it's a great experience if you're in a hurry. If the weather is right, there's a large patio that isn't too bad for a Macarthur location. I personally love this location because it's right next to a Starbucks and I like to get an after-meal coffee to help pack things in. One warning, however, is in the fall. For some reason, there's a large migration of birds that park it right at this Mi Cocina on their migration route. I mean a LOTTA BIRDIES. My car always gets pelted during this time of year, so much it's embarrassing to drive around after. I know, nature can be a real bummer sometimes. read more

start with an order of guacamole... Its wonderful.... I have now worked in Irving for the last 7 years, When I do have some cash and want to eat some good tex mex... Mi Cocina is the place for me. I usually start with a small order of guacamole which is pretty large probably adequate for 2 or 1 glutton (me)... I usually go with the nachos al carbon because I like fajitas without the mess.. I tend to get mix of both beef and chicken.. however with my lack of skill in eating these delicious nachos I still tend to make a mess like I am the "nachupacabra" all of this for around 20$ more or less if I sub a sprite for a corona... Service is prompt and very attentive. I advise if your planning on ordering during lunch hour phone it in and pick it up as its just a little too crowded for my taste. I don't do much drinking there as the last place I wanna get f'd up is a mexican food restaurant.. I just don't want to bring innocent bystanders into the path of my staggering.. By the way some fajitas come with potato slices which are wonderful in the fajita.. I came here while staying in the Plano area and was absolutely blown away. I only wish I was a cow with four stomachs as I was hurtin after eating so much. The chips were solid. There were two salsas but I had no idea which was supposed to be the hot one and which mild as they both were smoking. I had the brisket tacos and could eat them every day of the week. Haven't been here in years even though I live only a mile away. My colleague and I dropped in for lunch at 12:30 and we only had to wait for 5 minutes even though it was quite full. I guess the main draw here is the location and the classy and subtle decor making it great for business lunches. The chips were warm and average tasting probably because it was not too oily. I did like the salsa. I got the Brunch quesedillas with eggs, poblano peppers,bacon, onions etc. It was surprisingly good and way better than the enchilada that I remember getting . My colleague got the #5 lunch special whcih was a beef taco, chicken enchilada, cheese enchilada. It looked and tasted reasonably good. The lunch specials are about $8.50 and are usually a combination of 3 items.. tacos, enchiladas, chalupas, burritos. They have a lunch fajita for $12.50. Whats the idea charging $2.50 for a can of coke? Haven't tried the Happy Hour.. have to follow Kristies advice and try the mambo taxi. read more

Arrived approximately 11:45 AM for a business lunch. The restaurant was moderately busy. The noise level was high. We sat near the rear by the bar. The server was practically nonexistent. When other servers were asked to fill in for our server, it was difficult getting their attention. Drinks were not refilled. Chips we not replenished. Salsa for the chips was replenished but only after a lengthy delay and multiple request. As usual, the quality of the food and the taste of the food was good. Unfortunately, the service was so poor that it had a negative impact on the meal. The conversation was distracted looking for our server or replacement server. When the manager was requested, it took a very long time and multiple requests to bring him to the table. Ultimately, the manager did apologize and the meal was comped. The objective for getting the manager was to make sure that there is no recurrence of this type of experience. It was embarrassing having to ask for a manager repeatedly in front of business clients. I doubt that I will do that again in the future. This is a business that we entertain at frequently. It would be very disappointing if in the future that were not the case. I am certain that we will return in the next few days and try again, Hopefully with a better outcome. read more

Mi Cocina is among my must-visit places when I'm having one of my (frequent) cravings or when our out-of-town guests want good Tex-Mex. The patio (a rare commodity in Irving) is a perfect place to relax and show off our warm Texas weather to those northerners too. We frequently have friends and family request a second visit before they leave town. My favorite items here are the Tacos de Brisket, and any of the combinations that cover the main Tex-Mex bases: taco, enchilada, tamal, rice, beans, etc... Additionally, the Mambo Taxis here never disappoint and are much stronger than at their sister restaurant, Taco Diner, just down the road. I like to start the meal with the Queso Blanco, topped with picadillo. The guacamole is great too, as is the salsa. Our non-Texan friends tend to think the salsa is a little on the spicier side, but I think it's just right. The soups are delicious, salads fresh and tasty, and of course the main dishes. I've liked everything I've ever tried here. The service is generally adequate. The male servers tend to be a little friendlier here and the female servers come across as more aloof, but overall, nothing stands out as either bad or amazingly exceptional. Honestly, if I have plenty of chips and salsa, plenty to drink, and my food arrives hot from the kitchen, I'm going to be happy here. The food is just that good. read more

I understand these are crazy times so tried to keep a positive attitude. the waiter hands me my check book frantic signed, I tipped and realized she didn't hand my card back with my receipt when I was almost home. went to pick it up today the manager Ray Cruz came out defensive handing it back saying "how could you leave without your card?" I replied because it was crazy and already waited 30 mins i expected it to be in there. At this point he has his face almost inside my car through the window when I told him he needs to back up (especially with corona going around) he proceeds to puff out his chest and yells "I'm right here". Mambo taxis: the only reason why I love this place. I think I've been spoiled by the Dallas West Village location b/c as much as this location is exactly the same in terms of service and food, it just didn't have that ambiance to it that Dallas' location has. I guess it doesn't help that it's inside a strip mall either. But don't get me wrong. The decor is super nice and the patio has a nice waterfall. The food here is ok. I wanted a bit more kick in the salsa. The brisket quesadilla was amazing. Loads upon loads of brisket was piled on top of each other. I almost wished there were more cheese b/c I couldn't taste it with all of the meat. Dipping the entire thing into bbq sauce was divine! read more

Ambiance is great. I would have loved to enjoy dinner on the patio but it was raining :-(. The good is great and they have a happy hour from 4-7pm with great specials. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they don't have a happy hour menu and really don't advertise it that we'll when you arrive. If you don't know then you know of fend for yourself. Went to this place on the recommendation of the hotel staff. I was a bit disappointed in the meal. The staff was very friendly and fast with courteous service. However, the food was a bit lack luster. Chips were okay but flat one dimensional salsa. The enchilada was a bit small, but had a nicely crisped shell. The filling was nice beef but flat. The tamale was what sinked the meal for me. The small tamale had a dry masa that lacked flavor. The pork filling was bland and also a bit dry. Overall I expected much better food based on the recommendation and since I was in Texas after all. i would not return to this restaurant with the other choices in the area. I though this place was pretty good. I was really surprised when I walked into the restaurant, it was super modern and swank. I'm kinda used to the hole in the wall Mexican spots in San Antonio so I was excited to see what mi cocina had to offer. I got the tortilla soup as an appetizer and I thought it was great! My only critique is it could have used more chicken. I thought the portions were excellent, I had a beef taco and a chicken enchilada, and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The beef taco was good but who can go wrong with a beef taco? The rice was amazing and so were both my enchiladas. I really liked how they put thin jalapeno slices on the top, it really gave the enchilada a nice kick. The chicken was tender and well seasoned and there was the right amount of cheese. This restaurant is very pretty. The decor is welcoming and pleasant, maybe a little nicer than what I expected driving here. We were excited because of all the good reviews that I read. I should have listened to the few bad ones. To start with, they have one type of salsa and it does have a kick. If you don't necessarily like spicy things or you come with kids, you can write the chips and salsa off. I ordered the Deluxe #57 and everyone else ordered fajitas. There was nothing special about my meal and (despite being smothered in different sauces) the fillings were very dry. The fajitas are not your typical fajitas and don't come with any onions or peppers which make them very dry. They're not your typical fajitas when you think of a Tex Mex place. I also thought the portions for the prices they charge were very small compared to other Mexican places. We could have gotten the same "ordinary" food at Taco Cabana for half the cost. read more

We just moved to the Valley Ranch area so I invited my sister to lunch at this establishment. We sat at the bar. Every was good until my sister was like omg she pulled out a piece of glass from her mouth she said she it came from glass of water. So we told the waitress thinking a manager would come by to make sure everything was ok no one ever came by. So we get the bill and my sister was upset because no one came by or even cared she swallowed glass she felt like she should not been charged at all. She had a ordered a soup. So she asked for the manager. The manager was a overweight old man with gray white hair. You could tell he was annoyed immediately he seemed flustered. My sister told him I can't believe you're charging me after I swallowed glass. He was like OMG are you ok!? Do you need to go to hospital?! Do you need me to call emergency?! Obviously sarcastic. She was like no. He said I will not charge you for the bill but I'm gonna need all your information your name phone number and address. Why on earth does he need her address?? Then he pulled out a plain sheet of paper no form to fill out just a blank paper. I do love the bar staff but watch out for glass in the water and to treated like shit by managment when you tell them you swallowed glass. read more
