One of my favorite Chinese food spots! I recently learned about Sichuan peppercorn and the "numbing" spice and was super excited to try that out. We ordered a wood ear mushroom cold appetizer, a chili noodle, and a soup. These were to die for! The wood ear mushroom was a perfect balance of salty, tart and sweet. The tofu noodles were some of the most flavorful I've ever eaten no joke. The noodle texture was so chewy and not too soft, and the Sichuan peppercorns made for such an interesting experience in my mouth!! It really does numb it but feels nice haha. I'd recommend Mian to anyone visiting south coast plaza or in that area. read more

Tried this place for the first time. Noodles and appetizers are tasty. Large selection. Point off because they make you scan the QR code to order. And cell reception is horrible. When you pay this much, I think the service of taking your order is not too much to ask. My wife and I got the same thing. A noodle dish. Mine was extra spicy and my wife's was med. Waitress called out extra spicy and I raised my hand. It was a little spicy and I eat fast. I was done quickly. My wife was dying and only ate a little. We realized we got served the wrong thing. I'm bummed that I didn't get to enjoy what I ordered and we had an appointment so we couldn't wait to order again. I didn't notify staff because I finished mine and she finished 1/4 of hers. The Zha Jiang Mian is a must-order. The noodles have that perfect "chewy" bounce, and the pork sauce is incredibly savory--definitely get the fried egg on top to help cut through the richness. If you're a fan of the numbing sensation of Sichuan peppercorns, the Beef Noodles are loaded with flavor and provide that classic málà punch. We also grabbed the Sweet and Sour Ribs as a side. Wow! I am so impressed with Mian. We waited in line for 15 minutes but it was so worth it. Probably the most authentic braised beef noodle soup. The 1000 year egg was my absolute favorite and it was perfect with the noodles. Fried donut with soymilk is a childhood favorite of mine and definitely worth getting here! 10/10 would come back again. It was absolutely delish! Service was great too. Came to Mian and everything was SO good. The spicy noodle soup had the perfect kick and flavor, and the beef roll pancake was crispy, savory, and honestly addictive. It's delicious! My favorite is still the beef noodle soup with raw beef. It's normally spicy, a little spicy, but you can choose mild. Actually, it doesn't affect the taste at all! Super delicious! Great that they have more than one vegetarian/vegan entree option! Service is very fast and I never have to wait long to be seated. However, I've tried both the Sichuan Hot & Sour Soup Noodles and Mapo Tofu Noodles and while they are both very flavorful, I have to say they lay on the numbing (麻) too much with not enough spiciness(辣) on both dishes. It mutes the other flavors and takes over. I love Sichuan cuisine but it's so important to get that balance right! Also had the sweet and spicy radish and it was a little too sweet, not enough spicy. Maybe in a pinch at the mall I'll go again but definitely not my first choice. read more

The food was very authentic. Coming from the Asia region, the food is as close as authentic that you will get! I was surprised by the quality of food and pricing was very good for the quality! I got to say that Mandy our waiter was really accommodating and she even spoke my wife's language so she can have an easy time speaking and ordering! Had been wanting to check out Mian for awhile and finally had the opportunity to pay SCP and Mian a visit. Waited about 5 mins in the queue right outside the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm.The atmosphere is open and airy and a solid pick for small or larger groups. QR code on the table, scan in, and order via their easy to use platform. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, chili oil wontons, and beef roll pancake; opted for medium Sichuan spice for all the dishes which seemed to suit us well. All the items came out within 10ish mins and everything was really good. My overall ranking: 1) chili oil wontons 2) beef roll pancake 3) spicy beef noodle soup - but honestly, everything was flavorful and delicious. We asked for some chili oil on the side to dip the beef roll pancake. The pricing is decent as well, especially considering this is a poppin' spot in SCP. Instead of Marugame or DTF, decided to finally try Mian today! Walked in to a partially empty restaurant and scanned the QR code for the menu. Hopefully they revamp it for a smoother ordering process since WiFi is fickle at South Coast. Chose their "spicy" Chengdu Zajiang Rice Noodles -- subtle numbing sensation after a few bites, slightly oily sauce, and nice bouncy noodles. Fried egg wasn't yolky but it got the job done. Prob a one and done visit for me! read more

The food was very nice but a little too salty for my tastes. I think it was fine for what it is so I enjoyed it. It was yummy though so that's all that matters right? Portions wise, I think it is fine and value wise it's fine. The service was just fine- nothing too spectacular as there were something's that could be worked on. It could be the setting or type of restaurant they run though so I'll try not to hold it against them. The restaurant here since it was in the mall didn't have too much table seating. My party go seated on the stool right near the entrance and to be honest, wasn't as enjoyable as I would imagine so try to aim for a table. Although I couldn't find my favorite noodle dish (spicy cold noodles) on the menu, I discovered a variety of soup and dry noodle options unique to this location. While the appetizers were consistent, I noticed that the portion of steamed egg was smaller compared to the Rowland Heights branch. The cucumber salad had a slightly more vinegary taste than I'm accustomed to, but it served as a refreshing side dish. The shredded tofu salad was a tasty appetizer to start with before the main noodle dish. The Chendu Zhajiang noodles had a different flavor compared to other locations, but I enjoyed the sweetness of the sauce, which leaned more towards soy sauce than black bean. I really enjoyed my experience at the Mian in Cerritos, so I was expecting the same at this location in South Coast Plaza. Alas, I was disappointed. Starting with service, while the restaurant wasn't too busy and there was no line, the servers kept walking past me while tending to other customers. I didn't feel very welcomed. The ordering system is efficient, if a little impersonal. After seating me at the counter, the server simply directed me to the QR code on the table to order. The downside of this system is that there's no way to ask for any recommendation, and it wasn't easy if I had any question about the selection. Once again, I felt abandoned. After placing the order online, my bowl of noodle came quickly. Diving into my jajiangmian, I felt plenty of the spicy burn, but not much flavor. It was a strange experience. Perhaps I should have ordered a soup noodle, but I grew wary after reading multiple reviews of the broth being too salty. Overall, it was a letdown, and I am also annoyed by the string of potentially fake five-star reviews from brand new accounts with similar wording. You can't cheat the system and expect not to get noticed. I'll go back to the Cerritos location next time. read more

Not only was the service incredibly slow, but the waitress seemed disinterested and provided poor service throughout the meal. We had to constantly ask for refills and other basic necessities, and it felt like we were a burden to her. On the positive side, there was one male waiter with dyed hair who really stood out. Despite not being our assigned waiter, he noticed our frustrations and went out of his way to assist us. He was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. While we appreciated his help, it was disappointing that we had to rely on a different waiter for good service. So this place is below din tai fun and a popular udon place is right next to it. I'm honestly stunned it's not packed more often, Service: 10/10, the people who work here work very hard and are very attentive, they want you to be happy, got some great recommendations from my server (believe her name was Jennifer). Food is great. Last 2 times I was here I had the dry noodles changdu noodles, which were phenomenal. I actually liked them with no spice, vs mild, even mild has a bit of bite of eat, so it you like spicy mild may be enough. Today I got the braised pork soup, it is very good, little peppery but just right.
