Holy shit, does this place have a new owner? Absolute garbage for the past two visits (heard the same from my friend who went to the Alhambra location). First off, the noodles are different. Much thinner and not even remotely satisfying now. Second, there's no garlic added to the Chengdu ZaJiang Noodle (I think their most popular dish). No garlic?! Please, just rob the dish of complexity and fragrance. Third, they removed bok choy and replaced it with shreds of ICEBERG LETTUCE. Why you gotta pick the cheapest substitute possible?! Fml. Fourth, the sauce is far less decadent and far less aromatic now. Shoot, I got the spiciest on their menu and I barely felt anything. I used to cap at Level 3 (out of 5) before the change. I've heard of MIAN and wanted to try them for a very long time. From reviews and word of mouth I had high expectations from them. Coming here I wanted to try a lot of their menu so I brought friends to help with me. First thing I was worried about was since their noodles all looked very similar, that they would all have the same base taste with different meats/ingredients. To my surprised this was not the case at all. Each dish had its own unique taste that I could clearly tell from one another. To start, they provided a refreshing cold mung bean drink. This will be key when you finally have your meal. It is surprisingly refreshing after all the spicy noodles you'll be having. The first item to come out was the steamed egg and minced pork. This was such a simple yet elegant dish. The egg was so light, smooth and creamy. With the pork that topped it off, it adds the perfect amount of savoriness to the dish. You must get this as a starter to your meal. It is just such a comforting appetizer. As soon as I finished the appetizer the main dishes came out. House Beef Noodles: This dish was a very typical beef noodle soup, but had a great rich broth. Noodles were cooked perfectly and had a great chew to them. Meat was very tender. Highly recommend this if you just want a traditional beef noodle soup. Chengdu Zajian Noodles: This dish was delicious. The same ground pork from the steamed egg was now on top of those amazing bouncy noodles. All this is topped off with a pan fried egg with bok choy. Mixed all together with a bite of each ingredient in one spoon full is just heavenly. And when the spice or the saltiness gets too much, have a piece of their pickled cabbage and a drink of the mung bean drink and you'll be ready to go again. Special Gizzard Noodles: Now this dish was my favorite. If you love the taste of innards, this dish is for you. The gizzards added a change in texture in the dish while adding that gamy flavor, which I love. The gamy flavor of the gizzards works so well with the spicy chili oil of this dish. To counter all the richness the pickled celery was a nice touch to the dish. This dish may not be for everyone, but I personally think it was the best dish I tried. Spare Rib Noodles: This dish was one of the biggest surprises to me. I expected the dish to just be their house beef noodles but with spare rib instead, but to my surprise it was totally different. The soup broth had a strong mushroom flavor to it and made it taste completely different from the other noodle soup. The spare rib was melt in your mouth. I think I liked this better than the beef noodle soup. If you just want to try something a bit different from the original beef noodle soup, don't miss out on this. Hot and Sour Chaoshou: Lastly, the hot and sour dumpling soup. This was probably the best thing to have in between a few bites of any of the previous dishes. The hot and sour soup was a nice refresher from all the richness in all the dishes. After having a few dumplings and the soup, it made me want to come back to all my other dishes. The dumplings themselves were wonderful. The dumpling skin was very thin and there was a generous amount filling. I don't know why, but it made me want to eat more and more, so if you want to be able to eat more, make sure to get this dish. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised about this place. Everything had a unique taste to it and it was so refreshing to see that. Mian specializes in Sichuan noodles, and I've heard many good things about it. They finally opened a store in Rowland, and if the noodles are good enough for Gold, then I wanted to try it too! My friend and I stopped by for dinner on a weekday. The small restaurant was probably only about half full, so we didn't have to wait. We ordered the Chengdu ZaJiang Noodles, the House Beef Noodles, and Steamed Egg & Minced Pork. We also ordered some extra noodles, which is free when you dine-in. Good for people with big appetites! While we waited, we were served some pickled veggies with spicy peppercorns. It was pretty tasty, though spicy. We ordered the beef noodles mild spicy, and the zajiang noodles medium spicy, but it tasted like they switched the spice levels. Of the two, I enjoyed the zajiang noodles over the beef noodle soup. The beef broth was good though, and the beef were cooked pretty tender. I liked the flavor of the zajiang noodles slightly better. The noodles were fresh and chewy, the way good noodles should be! The steamed egg was good but nothing special - tasted like the steamed egg my mom used to make at home. Interestingly, they serve mung bean soup to drink instead of water. I loved it! Came on a Tuesday night and it wasn't super busy. We were seated immediately and given Mung Bean Soup and some pickled cabbage. The Mung Bean Soup is cold and refreshing. It had a nice sweetness and went well with all the dishes. They stated that it helps with spice, but I didn't test that out. We ordered the Pork Dumplings and this was my favorite out of all that we ordered! It was a nice balance of sweet and spicy. It was more of a peppercorn type of spice, so it reminded me of mala. With that said, it's not extremely spicy. I'm not a huge spice person, but I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. We also grabbed their Sparerib Noodles and Chengdu Zajiang Noodles. The Sparerib Noodles were really good. The broth was nice and savory, but not super spicy. The meat was tender and fell off the bones. The Zajiang Noodles were a bit underwhelming. They tasted bland and I felt they were plain noodles tossed in soy sauce. We also grabbed their famous dessert, Sweet Iced Jelly. I was curious because the picture looked like grass jelly, but I was totally wrong. It was clear jelly in a odd sweet sauce. Really liked the touch of giving green been ice water out as a regular drink instead of just plain ice water or plain water etc. You can really tell how an owner runs their restaurant not only by yelp reviews, decor or photos but also by the water that they give out. When i was a kid, one of my favorite games was Dynasty Warriors. The game was based on the tumultuous period at the end of the Han Dynasty in Ancient China. It loosely follows The Romance of Three Kingdoms, and the formation of three houses vying for control of China. Of the characters in the game, the main protagonist is Liu Bei who, after many setbacks lays claim to Eastern Han, placing his main base in Chengdu, the capitol of the Sichuan region. To order you have to scan the barcode on your table and place the order through your phone, multiple people can order at the same time. Each tables barcode is unique so don't scan another tables... My friends and I were so excited to hear about this new location! Even though parking can be a nightmare, no need to drive all the way to San Gabriel to eat my favorite Szechuan noodles. Trust me, MIAN 滋味小面 is quite the experience. This location is roomier and holds more tables, including a "bar-like" seating arrangement for solo diners? The interior is bright, clean and nicely decorated. They serve complimentary pickled cabbage (spicy!) and mung bean soup by the vase as soon as you get seated. This sweet cold mung bean soup is a traditional beverage from China that is said to relieve the spicy numbing sensation you get from eating Szechuan peppers & chilis. It's so refreshing! Chili Oil Chaoshou (Wontons) - total of 12 pork-filled wontons coated in flavorful chili oil sauce, this is a must whenever I eat at MIAN. Sichuan Cold Noodles - another one of my go-to favorites! Similar to Dan Dan Noodles but more acidic, it doesn't look like much but the flavor is great and noodles are chewy. You get more of that numbing, tingling sensation from this dish. Chengdu Zajiang Noodles - this one was just okay, it comes with a fried egg on top and few small pieces of bok choy. I would have preferred more sauce, but it's still tasty. TIP: I find that the spice level here is not as intense as the San Gabriel location. They say a spice level 3 is medium spicy, but tastes more like mild spicy and would probably equate to a spice level 1-2 at the other location. This is coming from someone who doesn't normally deal well with spicy foods. The dishes were all fairly inexpensive $8-9 each. Service was excellent! My friends and I are a group of 3 chatty girls and we easily sat there for at least 2 hours, yet the waiters/waitresses weren't rude about it and brought the check only when we asked. FYI, they only accept one credit card per table. While I highly recommend this restaurant, my greedy self is hoping this place stays under the radar so I can take all my friends and family here before it gets packed! read more

The noodles aren't the chewiest, but are very refreshing and cool. Sauce is great and packs lots of flavor; it didn't feel heavy, nor was it too salty. Perhaps in an effort to discourage people from wasting food, you are free to get extra noodles *after* you are about to finish your first portion. It even comes with its own sauce, so you're not having bland noodles! My friend decided to get the Hot and Sour Chaoshou instead of noodles for a change. It's essentially wontons in a hot and sour soup. We both came away super impressed. Both the wonton skin and the meat was super smooth. The wonton skin was silky and thin, and the meat was unbelievably tender. Enough flavor, too. I liked how the soup wasn't just chili oil in water; it tasted rich and substantial. Hey Mian, this place is pretty good. The decor and atmosphere was nice and we were greetly immediately with friendly staff. As soon as we sat down, they brought over some tea (they call it mung bean soup) and we placed in our order. My friend on the House Beef Noodle while I got the Zhajiang Mian with Peas. We ordered both our entrees with medium heat but holy crap it was still hot. The tea paired perfectly with our noodles. It was like a nice fire extinguisher for your mouth. Once you're cooled down, you're ready again to come in for another bite. We also ordered a plate of pork dumplings. The sauce that covered the dumpling wasn't spicy but it was so good. Service was amazing and they refilled our tea pretty often. Also, I forgot my debit card at the table after we paid and one of the servers tracked me down in the plaza and returned it to me. Delicious spicy beef noodle soup with mung bean soup as a refreshing drink on the side! On a Sunday early afternoon, we were seated at the bar area right away and ordered and got our food in quick time. MIAN - Beef noodle soup - Szechuan Near Me - Rowland Heights, California

This Mian location is nice and clean. Staff is also very welcoming. I usually dont like Szechuan style food since the numbing sensation makes me feel like I'm at the dentist or something. Mian allows you to choose your level of spice so I'm a little baby at 1-2 out of 5. They also provide a sweet mung bean drink for free. You'll have to ask for water instead if you dont like it. Chengdu Zajiang Noodles: My go to. I havent tried the other noodles since the flavors sound a little funky to me. Not down for that pickled or hot and sour stuff. Mian also offers FREE extra noodles if you dine in. It comes in a little bowl with the sauce or soup. Booyah! Pork Dumplings: I always want to try the chilli or soup dumpling but I keep ordering this one. The sauce is a little spicy and a little sweet but it mixes well. I'll have to try the other flavors one day. House Beef Noodle: This dish was just okay. Did not stick out to me and will probably not order it again. I did order extra noodles with it though. For a Szechuan style restaurant, I'm surprised I keep coming back. The food is good, service is good and can't get enough of that free extra noodles! The waiter even came back and asked if I wanted a free second bowl after I finished. Of course I was too full but it's nice to know they want you to be full/happy. read more
