If there's one thing I've learned about scrapbooking, it's this: Scrapbooking materials are expensive. If there's a discount going on, you stock up...and when I say stock up, I mean STOCK UP. Well, I had just gotten my new personal die cut machine (think inkjet printer, but with a blade instead of an inkjet cartridge) in the mail, but ran out of pretty papers to cut up. I went online to check if Michaels had any cool deals on their weekly ad and noticed that they were selling scrapbook papers for 40% off. (Yay for holiday discounts!) So, off I went to the Burbank Michaels. I get there and what do I find? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It was like a rabid arts and crafts mob had raided the store and stripped the scrapbooking aisle bare. The shelves where pads of paper were supposed to be stocked were practically empty, minus some basic cardstock and the Martha Stewart collection (which wasn't on sale). Michaels, you know scrapbookers will stock up when things are discounted - it's just a fact of life. So why the hell can't you keep your products stocked?? read more

TWICE i had a question about Mod Podge and was redirected to the frosting isle (Mod Podge is a craft glue.....definitely not edible unless your into that sort of thing) You can get the Micheal's app on the Droid market and it gives you access to mobile coupons! score. But be prepared to wait in line until LaShawnda and Yessinia are finished talking about their promiscuous encounters with black men before they are able to assist you at check out. Oh how I wish there was an alternative. I mean, there might be, and I'm too out of the loop to know about it. I hope so. I hope that someone finds this and clues me in to a great little craft store nearby. But until that happens, I'm stuck at Michael's. Let me start with the good: They have a huge variety of stuff. Roaming the aisles, you'll get a million ideas for future projects. That is, if you can really "roam" the aisles. Because getting to the bad: place is always a clusterf*ck. Crammed with screaming kids, card-wielding moms, hapless boyfriends, bumbling clueless people. By the way, this is AFTER dealing with a parking lot so stressful it leaves me wanting a cigarette after I park (and I don't even smoke.) The prices are not excellent. The line takes forever. Everyone there always looks like they can't wait to go home and eat a gun (this goes for employees and patrons.) There is a preponderance of morbidly obese women lumbering through the aisles buying cat decals. It's like an unsettling glimpse into the future. Go elsewhere. The store always looks like a bomb went off. The people who work there have this "I just work here" attitude and when asked for something specific often have no clue what you're talking about or where to find it ... further, they show NO enthusiasm for helping you find what you need for your projects. There seems to always be a big sigh, an overt act of having to put down whatever they were doing and a trudging through the store to help you find something (which they, themselves often don't know where to find). What really shocked me on Friday evening was what happened when I was looking for specific supplies for a craft project with kids on Saturday morning. I explained the kids would be making their own magic wands (in keeping with the theme of a book we'd be reading them). Apparently it was easier for the woman I asked to tell me "you should just buy the wands ... we sell them." instead of helping me find the supplies I asked for. I was in shock. Wasn't this a craft store??? Why was she telling me to by some cheap, plastic wand from their Halloween decorations collection??? UNBELIEVABLE! I almost posted it to Facebook at that very moment I thought it was so ridiculous. I had to remind her that the point was that the KIDS WOULD BE MAKING THEIR OWN ... My husband wanted to drop in the Best Buy next door, so I figured I'd mosey over and check out their yarn inventory. Nice selection! I spend a lot of time scrap-booking, so a local arts and crafts store is up there with grocery stores and car mechanics on the must-have list. Michael's Arts and Crafts fulfills that need, so I can't fault it for that. It's a massive store, with just about everything you could need (assuming you can find it.) This place is like the warehouse at the end of Indiana Jones, and I have to say, it's easy to get lost. The staff is very nice, but they sure don't wander far from the desk in front. It would be very helpful, as big a place as this is, to have a little on-the-floor help. Shopping is tedious enough when you have three kids between the ages of 3 and 10 with you, but when you spend twenty minutes scouring a store for alphabet tiles and nobody comes to your rescue, it becomes downright maddening! Overall, I won't criticize the store too much, simply because they are so well stocked and the check-out ladies are lovely. I just think they could afford to be a bit more helpful. read more

Oh how I love Michael's. The best place to go to when you are feeling artsy fartsy. Want to be original with your Thank you cards, birthday cards, or anything in general? Then you've gone to the right place. This location has everything that I am looking for. It's neat and organized, so looking for things shouldn't be a problem. Came here years back to make a scrap book and found whatever it is that I needed and more. Recently came back to get ideas for my dad's birthday. I had actually gone with my mom because she struggles at finding things that match, so I had to help this poor lady. Hehe. Staff? They had some here? They're not very helpful to be honest. The only time they ever helped was to ring up your purchases. But that's a given. They rarely make eye contact, afraid that if they did, a question would arise. On rare occasions, I get lucky with a very helpful employee. Parking is accessible where ever your heart desires. This store has a huge selection and the staff is nice. One thing that bugs me is the fact that the lines at checkout are super long regardless of how many registers are open. The employees don't always know about the products so take heed when you are considering asking questions. On two separate occasions I was given the wrong information. Once regarding spray paint and the other time was about rhinestones. Luckily I kept looking and figured it out. For 2 days already ive been calling and been left on hold for about 20-30 trying to look for an item which is the 5 letter press drawers. The customer service was so bad, i got hung up on twice and when i finally got answered by someone they were not able to answer any of my questions. Its completely frustrating. It will probably be the last time i call for any kind of help because its completely pointless. Aswell with them updating the site it says they have items in stock ready to pick up at store and when you call they say they dont have it to try calling tomorrow and the next day its the same thing. If i can give this location zero stars i would.. omg me and my husband went to this location, there was a line, no problem.. literally 10 people walked out, the guy at the door didn't let n e one in for 30 minutes.... We asked him why aren't you letting anyone in. He didnt even consider we were being in line, and he kept saying it's reached the capacity.. this is beyond unacceptable, and he didn't even say so sorry we will get you in as soon as we can.. we've been to many stores and they rotate people in and out.. i will never ever return to this unprofessional location with a bunch of young people working who are not at top levels.. There is no mature management and don't know how to take care of their customers.. we will spend our money elsewhere where we are treated with respect.. poor communication skills...Plus this is one of many incidents we have had to dealt with from this location!!! I was pleased when visiting this Micheal's location. Ample parking, wide isles, friendly, helpful staff, and a good selection of crafting items nicely stocked. It's a bummer I have to travel to the valley to visit it, but I would much rather go here than the Glendale or Pasadena locations. I have been crafting since I can remember. I have spent many hours scouring the aisles for one item to complete a project since I was a very young. I remember going to Micheals with my Grandmother after school and helping her pick out flowers or whatever she needed for her latest project. My Mom use to take me here as well, I have so many fond memories of that time in my life. She was a jeweler, which I believe helped form my passion for the same. My Mom passed away over a year ago and I find myself missing her, when this feeling arises I try to make something, anything really. I love coming here because as cheesy as it sounds I feel her, feel comforted by the memories we shared, the crafts we bonded over. The beads she would have loved, I try to incorporate into a piece I think she would be proud to wear. The selection is not as large as what I remembered as a child, but then again I was a lot smaller back then and everything seemed ginormous. The beads and findings are all decently priced and easy to find. The store and its staff are always neat and tidy. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and are prepared to answer any of your seemingly stupid questions. Recently I have spreading my craft wings and branching out into other crafting genres. I have started taking up knitting, scrap booking, and flower work. I can find everything I am looking for, usually without much trouble. I love the coupons they have in the Sunday paper, and the few i get in my email inbox from time to time. These provide extra savings, which makes me happy. The only down side to this chain of stores is they do not carry fabric. This means I have to drive across two towns for all my fabric needs instead of one stop shopping at Micheals. read more

I have to write a review Michaels. I'm sorry but I was super disappointed today. I give 2 stars because there was one nice lady who half-heartedly pointed where to go for yarn. So I went & found exactly what I needed, in the 50% off section bin. I compared 2 of its kind to make sure it was truly $4.50. Unfortunately, at the check stand I was told "9.99" I went all the way to the back again, picked up the other identical yarn that said $4.50, & the employee apathetically restated her 9.99 rule. I nicely told her through the frustrated teeth of my smile that maybe they should put all their yarn in the right place. False advertising, horrible customer service. & you can tell by my Yelp history I only complain when it's absolutely necessary. I want my $5, especially after the holidays when everyone is broke & deserves to buy their supplies for work without deceiving prices! Now there's only $30 in my account left. If you choose to shop there, make sure you pay in cash. They mistakenly double charged me on my debit card. When I called them on it, they gave me the run around for several days, despite my repeated requests for a solution. They were also rude about the matter, and never apologized. In addition, the store is horribly understaffed and mismanaged, the cashiers improperly trained, and the lines all interminably long and slow. I made my purchase online for curbside pickup on 5/27/20 used my gift card and my debit card. One of my purchase was a shadow box frame. Online it was not only on sale but it said buy one get one free. At the end I called the store on Victory in Burbank spoke to a nice rep. She told that was in store only considering that day the store wasn't open for in-store service she put me on hold for a while and then said ok we open tomorrow for in-store purchase I won't be here but I spoke to my manager and what we can do is cancel your order and scan everything again including the free frame I won't be here but let them know you spoke with me and the manager okayed it. Well they did not honor it at all although the sale was still going on on 5/28/20 they did not give me my frame plus I had to buy the new one full price because they had already cancelled my original purchase. The cashier was really nice she tried but you can tell she was inexperienced but the manager that came to help her who refused to honor the sale was dismissive and acted like she couldn't be bothered. I had purchased a limited edition Mondo poster at San Diego Comic Con this year and wanted to get it framed. It was signed by the artist, the director of the film, and the actor that was depicted on the poster. When I brought it in, Wayne ran me through all of my options, then told me outright "Do not do this now. Wait for a better sale time." When I finally brought it in, he remembered me by name and walked me through the process, worked with me on pricing as much as he was able to, and then we made the deal. I came to Michaels this morning to return a couple of things and to purchase a few things to stencil my kitchen cabinets. The employees were super helpful and were able to instruct me on what exactly to get in order to complete the project successfully. When I got to the check out line, I was shocked to see about 15 people waiting and only 2 registers open. I knew I would be late to work if things didn't speed up, so I asked the manager Marabel if it was possible to open another register. She had someone over right away and I was paying in no time. When I tried to use my 40% off and it didn't work, she told me about the coupons I can pull up right on my smart phone. I saved some money and left with a smile. In comparison to the Glendale branch, this Michael's in Burbank is great. Generally cleaner, better stocked, better staff. While it does take quite a while to get service because of the sheer volume of customers, I've yet to come across an associate that was unpleasant or seemed lackadaisical. It would be nice to have more registers open, but a long line seems consistent with most every Michael's store I've been to. read more

I was here last week and they had a security guard in a too tight Michael's shirt standing at the exit door. A security guard! If you're so afraid of people stealing your 5x (plus) over the purchase price you paid for your items, a better way would be to hire undercover security or I dunno, have more staff on the floor so your customers won't have to search for help as well as detour theft. Every retail has theft, it's just the price of doing business but hiring some dude who looks completely out of his element to stand watch of people at the register doesn't make people feel at ease with shopping. And as I said, a few strategically places employees would do better to curb it than some out of place looking guy standing at the exit door. Cashiers and other employees are nice though so there's that. Also, as someone else mentioned, stock your damn store. Every time I go there, I think hey.. I'll be able to find this, but every time I leave empty handed and have to head over to your competitors (who don't have beefy security guards btw). I would like to update my previous review of Micheal's in Burbank. I contacted their corporate office about my experience with the Burbank store turning off half of the store lights 1/2 hour before they closed. I found that the employee that told me the store closed at 9:30 pm gave me incorrect information over the phone. Apparently, all Micheal's close at 9 pm. I guess their turning off half of the lights at 9 pm is probably better than them announcing every 5 minutes from 8:30 on that they will be closing at 9. My suggestion at this point is that employees answering phones should be trained to give out correct information. read more

This Michael's has been around ever since I can remember . I had only came a couple of times with my sister who's into art and comes to get supplies. My husband and I recently came to buy foam balls and a bunch of other things for their party and when I say a bunch I mean a cartful of other things to make centerpieces for our kids birthday party I tried glancing multiple times at the name tag of the cashier who attended us name without making it too obvious her name is Minerva This 5 stars is for her she's so friendly and knows how to carry on a conversation and even made us smile/ laugh . Michaels always feels overpriced, but they give out coupons on almost every purchase so it keeps me coming! Their yarn selection is great and I love the sales! There aren't enough store clerks - I find that sometimes I have a very simple/fast question and it takes me so long to find anyone to talk to that I usually give up. I called at 5pm and the girl said, "yeah we probably didn't fulfill it because Black Friday overwhelmed our system so....". I asked if I came in would they at least fulfill the order. There's a horrible plasticky smell in the air, the staff are generally unhelpful or, at best, sullenly helpful. Staff members also don't seem to know products very well, often looking as lost and confused as the other shoppers (possibly due to brain cells dying from the chemical smell), or simply saying, "All the sewing stuff is in the back," and then scurrying away. I'm a huge fan of the Micahels Arts & Crafts chain - I have tons of DIY projects that I wouldn't have been able to finish without their products or assistance. This Micahels is on the bigger side, boasting about fifty aisles of arts, crafts, beading, foliage, seasonal items and kids kits. The only downside, is that this Michaels is also a lot more cluttered and busy than most of the other ones that I'm used to. Though they have multiple cash registers, typically only two or three of them are open at a time. If you know what you're coming in for, this Micahels is a great location; but if you're coming in to get inspired, you might be here for a while. read more
