Mida served up the dinner that I wanted in Boston. I had originally found this restaurant when I did some research on restaurants to check out in Boston. I typically do not eat at Italian restaurants, but I decided to check this place out based on word-of-mouth. I had reservations for Mida set up for a week prior to visiting Boston. Street parking can be a bit difficult around this neighborhood, so I ended up going earlier than my reservation time. When I arrived, the hostess was able to have us seated at the bar to order drinks until our table was ready. Within a few short minutes of sitting down, we were able to sit at our reserved table, 20 minutes ahead of schedule. I am thankful for how accommodating the restaurant was to us. After we sat, it did not take long to have the drinks that we ordered served to our table. We were able to get our appetizers in. We ordered the ARANCINI and MARINATED OLIVES. The olives were pretty good, but the ARANCINI was phenomenal. The ARANCINI are fried rice and cheese balls. This is definitely a must order to start your meal at Mida, in my humble opinion. The sauce complimented the fried cheesiness. As our main plates, we ordered the SHORT RIB LASAGNA and the BUCATINI ALL AMATRICIANA. The lasagna was a very generous serving. You can eat plenty while at the restaurant and still have enough left over to take home. It was very filling and appropriately priced. The bucatini was pretty good as well. It was the perfect portion and the pasta was pretty thick. It was enough to leave me satisfied, without feeling stuffed. To end our meal, we ordered a tiramisu to share. Typically, I am not a fan of tiramisu, but decided to try it out at this restaurant. To my surprise, the tiramisu here is amazing! This was honestly the best tiramisu that I have ever had. When they bring the tiramisu to the table, they pour a shot of espresso over it, which adds a nice touch to the experience. The combination of the espresso flavor, the sponginess of the dessert, and the slightly-sweet cream all came together really well. Overall, Mida was a great restaurant to visit in Boston and I recommend others to check it out if they are looking for an Italian restaurant in Boston. The staff is super accommodating. Came to Mida for their Mangia Monday which is a special they run on Mondays. For this special you're supposed to get 5 FULL sized plates of pasta, a salad and bread. All of the food was phenomenal, even the salad. But we were quite disappointed in the size of the pasta servings as they were not full sized plates. They were probably about 30-40% smaller. I still think we got a good deal but we were just excited to over stuff ourselves on pasta and that just wasn't the case with these portion sizes read more

Oh my Mida! The restaurant name means "he gives me" and aims to create meals that are meant to be a gift just for you and the service and food definitely didn't disappoint. This particular location is located in the quaint south end neighborhood on the corner of Massachusett's Ave and Treemont St. I visited Mida during my trip to Boston and made reservations at Mida in advance as part of a surprise for my best friend's birthday. Mida is one of his favorite restaurants and I can definitely see why after coming here. Service: The staff at Mida were amazing and made our experience at the restaurant a memorable one despite not being able to bring our custom cake (see below). It started raining so they had to move everyone who had patio reservations inside but was very super courteous in ensuring that all indoor appointment times were kept as well. The staff kept providing us with updates on approximate wait time and on tables that were paying and about to leave. The restaurant itself isn't really big so I really appreciate how hard they tried to accommodate all guests in a timely manner. The menus were displayed via scanning QR codes but the staff still took the time to explain to us the menu and signature dishes etc. Our server was also very attentive and was keen on making sure we had enough water and made sure to ask how our food was tasting. The intimate experience really made the experience feel like it was personalized to the guests. Note about service: They do charge a "cake/slicing" fee so if you plan to celebrate a special occasion and have your own cake expect a fee. I don't remember the exact amount they quoted but it was hefty enough (more than the cost of the custom cake) that we decided to not bring the cake. For reference, the cake itself was over $50. If the cakeage wasn't more expensive than the cake itself, I would've considered bringing the cake and paying for the cakeage This downside of being unable to bring the cake is probably the major contributor for rating Mida 4 stars instead of 5-stars. Not being able to celebrate with the cake at the restaurant definitely did affect the vibe a bit. The staff did however bring out a slice of red velvet with a candle so that we could still sing happy birthday. *I'm not sure if this is a Boston thing but I've never had a restaurant charge extra for bringing a custom-ordered cake for a birthday celebration at the restaurant. We had our own plates, slicer, and forks so we wouldn't even have had to use their supplies. This cakeage is definitely new to me. Cost: $$ Average price Appetizers and side dishes ranged from $6-$25. Pasta ranged from $22 to $35 while entrees ranged from $22-$25 which I've found to be quite standard throughout most Boston Italian restaurants. Poriton sizes were just right in my opinion especially if you plan to share. Most dishes are tapas style and meant to be shared portions weren't too big like most Americanized Italian restaurants and not too small leaving you feeling unsatisfied. I would definitely recommend bringing a friend or two so you can share and try everything on the menu Food: As a party of 3 we ordered 2 kinds of pasta and an entree. We decided on the gnocchi cacio e pepe, bucatini all amatriciana, and the smoked short rib lasagna. Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe: This dish is a twist on the simple but delicious cacio e pepe subbing spaghetti for gnocchi. The gnocchi instead of spaghetti is a nice touch as it allows you to better indulge in the flavors and provide a texture that melts in your mouth. The flavors of this dish were really flavorful. Personally, I just wish it were a bit cheesier but then again I just love cheese. Short Rib Lasagna: This dish was HIGHLY recommended by one of my friends and I'm glad we tried it! is arguably one of the best lasagnas I've ever had. The short ribs can only be described as marinated and cooked to perfection. The meat is so tender that it melts in your mouth. Each bite was filled with flavor and juiciness. The lasagna itself was also the perfect texture as it wasn't too dry or moist. If you had to try one dish from the menu it would be this! Bucatini All Amatriciana: This is a classic comfort pick and you can't go wrong on this one. The sauce was definitely really rich and flavorful. To top it off, sprinkles of pecorino romano cheese to add that extra kick. Overall, I would recommend Mida and would love to come back during my next trip to Boston! read more

WHAT. A. MEAL. Every aspect of my experience was one for the books! My only and honest reaction to everything was simply: WOW. I took a quick trip to Boston to help one of friends pack and move all of their belongings to the DC area. They recommended Mida as the restaurant they wanted to go to for their last meal before the big move. As a self-proclaimed short rib connoisseur, once I saw the short rib lasagna on the menu, I was all for this choice! We arrived at the restaurant a little earlier than our reservation stated, but were seated promptly. The first thing I noticed was the dark ambiance. Although Mida was packed, it has a very intimate vibe to it. The staff was amazing! Everyone I encountered provided exceptional service and everything was served in a timely manner. Now to the food: We started off with the foccacia (bread with parmigiano-reggiano and chives, North Shore Fritto Misto (calamari, clam strips, oysters), arancini (rice fritters). The arancini was my favorite starter out of the 3 by far. Reminded me a lot of a mozzarella stick, but 10x better. But the short rib lasagna was still the star of the show. The portion size was incredible. This was the first time I've had breadcrumbs on top of lasagna and I'm not sure if I can eat it any other way now. I could have easily turned it into 2 meals, but I'm greedy -- so you know I had to clean my plate right then and there. I wasn't the biggest fan of Mida's Valentine's Day prix fixe menu I had a few years back so I was glad to have given them another chance because what I had recently was great! I went during their brunch hours and really enjoyed their Sicilian Mussels starter and Gnocchi Cacio E Pepe entree. The mussels definitely stole the show. Mussels were great and the sauce that they were bathed in was even better. Be sure to ask for more bread when ordering the starter as you'll have plenty of sauce leftover after the first serving. MIDA is a treasure in the South End! My husband and I were in town from LA for two weeks and loved it so much we went three times! The staff and bartenders are phenomenal. We went partner's birthday and it was great! The staff was super nice and we got a free tiramisu. The ambiance was really nice, especially in the summertime. This is a review for MIDA's brunch. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. But they still sat parties next to each other. Why do this, when there are all these other empty spots elsewhere? Side salad: Loved the slight acidity from the lemon-based dressing as well as the breadcrumbs for textural contrast. Smoked short rib lasagna: Initial thought: Smelled like pepperoni pizza. The portion is quite small, and it sat in a coup of tomato sauce. Let's try the sauce: Tomato sauce is very acidic, and overpowers the lasagna. There's a slight metallic taste, like it came from a can. Let's move on the to the lasagna: Unable to remove a piece with my fork, due to the chunky pieces of beef, and had to use a knife. Beef was tender but not flavorful. It has a smoky aroma but disappears when it entered my mouth. It lacked beefiness. If the beefiness was there, it was totally masked by the tomato sauce. There were not many layers in this lasagna, which was confusing. Also, there's a random giant basil leaf in there. Wut? Redeeming qualities: The breadcrumbs on top added a nice contrast. It came with a salad on the side. Still hungry. Chicken sandwich: The sesame on the sesame bun was very aromatic and overpowered whatever aroma there was in the sandwich. There was a subtle stale flavor to the buns. Chicken had a crunchy exterior - the shell was dense, not my preferred type of fried chicken crust. The interior was chicken breast - kinda dry. There were aioli and honey in the sandwich, but there was nothing else in the sandwich. Salad was good though. Overall thoughts: On the menu was also typical American brunch food. Shakshuka. I went to MIDA a couple weekends ago - I had been wanting to go for a while because of all the great things I had heard about the restaurant. We ordered the arancini, the gnocchi cacio e pepe, and the spaccatelli al pesto. The arancini were crispy on the outside and pretty good, but they were filled with only rice (I was expecting the mixture of rice, tomato sauce, peas, and ground beef that I'm familiar with as a Sicilian). The gnocchi was somewhat underwhelming. I think the star of the show was the pesto pasta -- it was very flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly! The waitstaff was also attentive and very nice! This is the easiest review I have ever had to write. After watching a so-called review of Mida on the Phantom Gourmet, we decided to give this restaurant a try. Normally we do not put much credence in the reviews done on the show since they are really paid advertisements, however, the staff did such an outstanding job in presenting what this restaurant was all about, we just had to try it. It will actually be kind of a boring review as many of the items we tried this evening have been commented on before. However, I can reinforce what almost everyone else is saying. First of all, the service was absolutely outstanding. Our waiter, Joel, was incredibly attentive and very entertaining in his own right. His service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive in any way. This contributed to a really enjoyable environment. The space was extremely busy and it was evident that every person in the place was having a great time. There is a really positive vibe surrounding this restaurant. Now for the food, I don't think any of this will be a real surprise but I will give my own personal perspective on each item. We started off with the Arancini. As noted before in other reviews, they are rather small however, they were served as soon as they were ready. There was no time to cool off and it was obvious that the staff was attentive and got these to us quickly. There were four golf ball size Arancinis in the order, which is more than enough for two people. They were in a word, outstanding. The sauce was fresh and flavorful and the Arancinis were crisp on the outside and creamy in the middle. A perfect start to the meal. We could not help but order the crispy polenta, and frankly it was the highlight of the meal. Perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, with a smattering of honey and Gorgonzola over the top this appetizer was absolutely outstanding. It may have been the thing that we enjoyed most. The entrées were the short rib lasagna and the Cacio y Pepe gnocchi. These have been reviewed by several people in the past and all I can say is both entrées hit it out of the park. Thoroughly enjoyable and the portions were more than adequate. We ordered the tiramisu and absolutely loved it. I know some people have been a little bit on the fence with this item, however I don't understand it. I thought it was perfectly balanced and had some very unique flavors while the presentation itself was unique and appealing. I loved this dish. As I noted earlier our service was outstanding. And although we did not order it, Joel brought over a piece of citrus cake. This was another fantastic dessert that just added to the meal. We had a lovely bottle of Italian wine with our meal which was reasonably priced and the coffee with the dessert was also very high-quality. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. I've been wanting to give MIDA a try for a while. I don't usually go out to eat Italian because it's one of my favorite cuisines to cook at home. I had pretty high expectations all the hype and I think they exceeded every one of them. MIDA is a fantastic place, the food is wonderful, the drinks are great, and the service couldn't have been more personable. We came here on a Friday night after work. The place was packed so I would make a reservation prior to visiting. We had a big party of 8 people, that's the max they can accommodate without it turning into an "event". We had the focaccia bread, calamari, and mussel appetizers. All we tasty, fresh, and delicious. My favorite was the calamari- which included fried the hots as well as the squid. My wife and I order the short rib lasagna and the gnocchi cacio e pepe. The lasagna blew me (and the table away)- it was packed with short rib and the portion was larger than I was expecting. The gnocchi were perfectly cooked, though I'm not a huge fan of cacio e pepe. It was good- I just wish restaurants would stop trying to make it a thing. I don't think anyone had a bad drink- the ones I had were exceptional. I got their drink of the week (or day??) which was an Italian hot toddy- which is weird to order but it was the best cocktail I've had in sometime. Aside from top notch food and drink and service, MIDA was really good value for a high-end restaurant. You can do date night here for all-in $50/pp with entrée, 2 drinks, and an appetizer to share. Allow for time to look for parking. The inside was tiny, a bit cramped and I wondered if they made the right choice in lighting. Service was great until we started asking allergy related questions. Our server seemed more interested in the guests who were ordering bottles of wine and put out by our questions. If you have a soy allergy, you WILL be disappointed. We had the paccheri bolognese, classic carbonara, citrus almond cake and tiramisu. The meat sauce bolognese was flavorful and and the pasta was al dente. We didn't understand the addition of the bitterness of the broccoli rabe. The carbonara was over sauced. I loved the fat of the salumi and that the pasta was al dente. However, in addition to being over sauced, the dish was also ridiculously over salted. The tiramisu was lack luster and didn't have enough of what is typically ladyfingers. There was a table side pouring of the espresso over the dish that didn't allow the little cake there was to properly absorb. The mascarpone filling was good. The absolute best part of the meal was the citrus almond cake. It was not too heavy with just the right amount of sweetness. It was an okay experience. I was here with a large party for dinner, and we had a great experience. Our server was attentive, and the person who I believe was the manager came over several times to check on us. One of us had a very specific food allergy, and they were able to accommodate them without any issue (might have been a problem elsewhere). The food was excellent. Everything was well seasoned and prepared as you would expect. Cocktails were tasty and well balanced. Ignore the 3 star IG Thot reviews, some people have no taste. We will be coming back to MIDA. 4.7/5 but rounding up! I adore this place. I always forget that pasta is WAY better when you have it from a place that does it well. Dinner date at MIDA really reignited my love for carbs. The places ambiance was relaxing, the food was delicious, and servers were attentive. The place has separators between tables and asks that you wear masks when servers come, which is nice considering pandemic. My favorite dish was the lobster carbonara. It has a bit of a lemony taste to it. The bolognese was my next favorite! The sauce was appropriately meaty. The short rib lasagna was great, but a bit too cheesy for my lactose intolerant stomach. Arancini was good too! We also had the tiramisu, but were not huge fans of it. MIDA Fruitti misto -- Very nice crispy texture but not over cooked like many Italian places in Boston nowadays. Bread -- perfectly crispy not chewy like perfectly delightful sourdough. Chef prepared separate dipping for bread with balsamic. Very fresh olive oil and balsamic. Balance of Calabrian chili and chive is perfect. Arancini -- light and airy. Just superb. A hint of spice in the tomato sauce. Not at all too heavy. No meat but it doesn't need it. Truly the pride and joy of the restaurant as an appetizer. Polenta square -- so fluffy and airy. Super simple but wonderful with pink and black peppercorn, honey, and cheese. I didn't think I was going to like it so much but I truly did. The balance of flavors explodes in your mouth like a firework as the polenta serves as a soft and creamy agent for the transportation of tastes. Short rib lasagna -- better than your mom's. If you won't have an allergic reaction to this, why won't you order this? The best dish in house. Hands down. The kitchen is a well-oiled machine. Chef is on point with his hands-on leadership and his directions. Everyone here has a "can-do" attitude which makes the place run smoothly. Had such a nice Sunday night dinner here. Good place for gluten free folks as you can get gluten free pasta. The ambiance felt great and cozy. There's also an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work which adds a nice vibe. I had to wait about 10-15 mins to be seated, but it was worth the wait. I would recommend making a reservation though as it was very busy. Our waitress, Kendall, was great and recommended the Roasted Carrots which were surprisingly yummier than I expected. She was also very helpful in identifying gluten free options. I love Cacio E Pepe, but not gnocchi. I was allowed to get penne instead which I appreciated. Finished the whole plate. I have been meaning to dine here for the longest time and I finally did. Very last minute decision to catch up with a friend towards the end of the night so we arrived just before the kitchen closed. Walked in, I took in the restaurants ambiance immediately, I really love slightly dim lighting. We ordered the Paccheri Bolognese and Short Rib pasta. Chef kindly sent us an app of the arancini since the kitchen was closing -- the smile on my face, mannnnn! So the Bolognese was my dish, the way all of the flavors came together, the portion was perfect. I made the comment of how I almost never finish pasta and it ends up being taken to go but I cleaned my plate with the amazing bread they gave us. Tiramisu is my favorite and I wasnt aware of the spin chef puts on it but it was so different and flavorful. The different textures of the crunchy (yes crunchy) lady finger, the airy whipped marscapone and the rich espresso poured over it right at the table.
