Inefficient, ineffective, incompetent. This sums up my experience with Mida's of Folsom. Came for an oil change and had my tires rotated since it was time. Then noticed a glug-glug sound when driving. Thought nothing of it. Took my car to Costco to buy tires. Costco said my car is missing 3 lug nuts. Took my car back to Midas and they replaced missing lug nuts but that the bearing broke. Quoted me 400$. Now why did the bearing break? I can only conclude that it was due to the missing lug nuts. They did not even compensate me for their fault. I always think about he weeks that I was driving this car in that condition. Things could have gone wrong. Now, would you trust them with your life??? I've brought all of my cars to this shop for years. Always been satisfied. Until now. Don't get breaks replaced by Midas. I learned the hard way. First set was rusted within 2 weeks and the car began to wobble when breaking (coming off an exit of the freeway it felt like I was landing an airplane shaking). The rotors warped beyond repair within a couple months. I took the car back and they replaced the rotors and pad as I was told perhaps they were faulty and that they saw I was a loyal customer - I was also asked if I was driving on steep hills. Straight city streets are all we have. The rust was blamed on water, which it hadn't rained in months nor had I parked outside nor near sprinklers. I was also told that this was a one time no-charge as a favor but if it happened again they could not help. After the 2nd install, again I immediately noticed they started to rust and AGAIN wobble began with breaking within a couple months. I've had rotors and pads changed before on cars and have never experienced this sort of trouble. Warning: if you need your breaks done - go elsewhere. No problems with any other service at Midas - but this experience will make me question going there again for anything else. I have already started going elsewhere for oil changes which I used to always use Midas. I threw away money on a terrible break job that I'll have to again pay for to have done as warped rotor are not only annoying but also unsafe. read more

Under new management (unfortunately). We have been taking our vehicles to this store for over 10 years due to the outstanding staff and service, neither of which were present at our appointment this week and we will not be returning. After making an appointment and arriving on time, we were informed that we would have to wait because they were busy. The young woman at reception was rude and did nothing to mitigate the situation. A young man working there said that he would get our car in next (this was just for an oil change, BTW) and that we should be done in about 45 minutes. Long story short: after 90 minutes, our vehicle was still parked in the same spot in the lot, never having been touched. We'll be taking our business to Firestone on Green Valley Road. read more

I called the day before to get an appointment for the first appt the next morning for an oil change plus free tire rotation, the work was estimated to be 45 minutes. I said great I'll come in, this sounds like I can make it to work on time. I dropped the car off 5 minutes after 7:30AM which is when they open. I did not leave the shop until 9:30AM. I was late to my work after agreeing to have the cabin and engine air filters replaced. I was very clear the previous day when I made the appointment that I need this to be done ASAP within the 45 minute time frame. They told me it would only be a 20 min wait for one of the filters to be delivered, but no it was more like 45 minutes FOR A FILTER!!! Also I asked the digital engine oil filter indicator to be reset. NOPE! had to do that myself! I spent 70+ dollars additional to the oil change for these filters and did not make it to work on time. The mechanic was swift and efficient. As far as the customer service goes, I am unhappy. TIME IS MONEY! My friend has had a great experience here with his truck but we are talking about someone who buys his own oil and brings it to the shop to have it filled... read more

No customer service what so ever we sat and waited for our car after we came in for an appointment. I liked this place. Came in with a coupon to get an oil change. They did a free inspection while I was there. Pointed out a few things that needed attention, but no hard sell to have them done. I opted not to have any additional work at that time and they said no problem and were still friendly. Btw, one of the items they found (cracked belts), and I didn't get around to fixing, broke on me a few months later. Maybe I should have listened to them. :-) Overall, I feel that this is a honest shop that does what they promise with no games. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change for the next morning so making the appointment was very easy. I was greeted by excellent customer service by clean cut, friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Lacarey was the staff member that helped me but the courtesy didn't stop there. Even the mechanics was pleasant and knowledgeable as well (I should have gotten his name too). The mechanic did an inspection underneath my vehicle and was able to point out a few issues that will need to be addressed in the near future but they are good to not put pressure on the customer to make repairs right then and there. They do give you an estimate for the work that needs to be done but it's just that, an estimate so you can go get other estimates if you so choose. I was told the service would take an hour but was done in 40 minutes tops. I will be bringing my other cars here as well at least for oil changes and inspections. I have not used the garage for car repairs so I can't comment on the quality of the workmanship at this time. I do feel that they display honesty and integrity in their work ethics. I went to Midas today after I had to jump start my car batteries. I was told that the battery is gone and had to be replaced. $200 batteries and $33 labor charge in addition to an $30 Diagnostic charges. I asked them to go ahead and change it. When I came back home and discussed it with my husband, realized I was ripped off. The same battery was $111 in batteries plus and AutoZone. I went back to see if the charges were right, First I was told that's a different battery, but then when he realized it was the same battery, He brushed it off saying "You could have saved money of you did it by yourself" smh. I would never again recommend this place to anyone. Save some money. Go elsewhere. read more

Had an issue with a Catalytic converter replacement and smog. Was told by the smog shop and smog referee that Midas had put the wrong equipment on my truck. First off nobody had on mask! I went in with a flat tire that I knew could not be repaired I simply wanted them to put my spare on so I could go to another more affordable tire shop that I was also willing to pay for them to do for me. He told me his guys were busy and he was not going to ask them to stop to help me and that I'd have to wait until tomorrow to get a new tire or get it towed somewhere. After telling me that he completely ignored me and went on to help the women who walked in after me who was also without a mask. Kind of felt judged because I was a black woman or because I had on my mask. I've taken my car for oil change/tire rotation here a couple of times already. Great service every time. They tell you what's recommended for the car based on miles (if any) and there is never any pressure to get the work done or even get it done by them. After one of my oil changes I noticed a leak. I called them, took the care in and they said my oil cap was loose. They ordered a new one for me and got it fixed on the spot at no extra charge. Great customer service. We all know how a simple visit for an oil change can lead to other questions and concerns. Midas has always been good about showing me other issues they noticed without making it sound dire that I take care of it right away. This time, however, it was I that brought up the additional concern. My husband felt that my brake pedal needed more depressing than it should and wanted the brakes checked out. After inspection, it was determined that I needed a new master brake cylinder, something Midas had replaced less than 2 years ago. Since I'm a teacher, and, as of June 2020, a retired one, the mileage on my car for the last year was minimal (online/distance teaching since March 2020), so I questioned the need for another master brake cylinder so soon. When I was told that the warranty on the part is 90 days, I asked for some consideration on the price of the new one in view of the fact that they had been the ones that put the last one in and the car hadn't been driven enough to warrant a new one so soon. Without hesitation, the manager/owner was contacted and I was well taken care of. The level of professional work, attitude and ethics at Midas of Folsom is beyond typical expectations of a car shop. Don't trust this business! My wife took our 2008 Toyota Prius to this Midas for an oil change on November 19th, 2019. Within a couple of weeks, my daughter reported that the check engine light had come on. I asked my wife when was the last time we had the oil change and she couldn't remember. I picked up an oil filter and a case of synthetic oil and did an oil change a couple of days later. When I drained the oil and removed the old filter, that appeared to be on the car for several months based on the amount of road grime, about a quart of oil drained from the engine and filter. There were no apparent signs of leakage on the engine or the filter. I refilled the engine adding close to four quarts. The engine capacity is approximately 3.9 quarts. I found the receipt later to discover that they drain the oil, or at least most of it. They charged us for an oil change and filter and were able to sucker my wife into doing other maintenance that probably wasn't needed or done. I sure hope they didn't damage the engine. My attorney will have fun with that. read more

I would really rather do a big fat ZERO. I took my car in there about 3 months ago for a timing belt. They had it for almost a full week and had told me to pick it up three different times in the week and I had wasted three half days of work and the car was still not working. They brought in managers from Roseville and also the Bay Area and my car still did not work until finally I threatened to contact an attorney. Well now I have a crankshaft issue and took my care to Speedee in Folsom and they have a Master Mechanic. My car will be ready today but they asked if I ever had someone work on my timing belt because what is wrong with my vehicle now could only occur by the workmanship on the car. Two bolts were missing which could have done major damage. We will be contacting our attorney. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE EVER!!!! read more

Come in for rotors turned an brake fluid flushed. Only because I'm from out of town an it was a Sunday. Watching guys scratch there head, could take off a simple hub cap. Had to use my tools an worse I was the one pulling off my hub caps that had standard bolts. Then they tell me my rotors are wasted which is bull crap. Then they have the balls to over charge me for rotors an labor. Not including the fluid flush. Then I had to double check everything using my tools. An gave me a slap in the face discount on the brake flush. Your better off doing yourself. This place is a joke. read more

Brought my MINI in to have the A/C tested for leaks and recharged. I took my car in when they first opened and received my car back sometime mid day. I was told a dye test was performed to verify if there were any leaks in the A/C (there weren't) and the system was fully recharged and is now working properly. When I got the car back, the A/C worked okay but not as good as when I had first bought the car. Within a few hours, the A/C started blowing hot air from the driver side vents. I called Midas back, told them what was going on and was asked to bring the car back so they could look at it again. The next day I dropped the car off before going in to work and they had the car for 5 or 6 hours. I was told that they tested the lines again, that there were no leaks in the system, and the refrigerant was full. Midas said there had to be something wrong with the vents and I need to take it to a MINI dealership to have them fix whatever was causing hot air to blow from one side of the car and cool (not cold) air from passenger as no one at Midas is qualified to work on European cars such as mine. I made an appointment with Foreign Autohause the next week to have them look into the A/C not working properly. They had the car for a couple hours and found that the schrader valves were leaking, which was the cause of the A/C blowing hot on the driver's side (78 degrees!). I explained to them that Midas had tested the system twice and did a dye test and assured me there were no leaks in the system. Foreign Autohause told me that there was no presence of dye in the system and if Midas had done a dye test they would have seen dye coming out of the valves. The schrader valves are very easy to diagnose and Midas would have seen they were leaking if they did the work they said they did. I had the valves replaced and the system recharged and now the A/C blows perfectly! I contacted Midas the following day, explained what happened and requested a refund for labor and offered to even pay for the coolant. Midas said that there was "nothing they could really do for me" since I took it somewhere else to be fixed, even though they told me they weren't qualified to fix MINIs. After discussing this with the manager Jeff for almost 45 minutes, I was asked to bring in the service order from the other shop and he would review it. A couple days later I received a call from Jeff, telling me that he spoke with his tech who has worked for him for 25 years and the owner and that I would not be receiving a refund on anything because I had the car repaired somewhere else instead of bringing it back to them. Even though they tested the system TWICE and could not find the obvious leak that was coming from the system where you plug in to test it! 7/5/17 EDIT: Been almost a week and no one has attempted to contact me, Even though someone replied asking for contact info and I was told I would hear from someone soon. read more

I took my truck there with an exhaust leak yesterday and they quickly discovered a clamp was loose and the exhaust slipped. They hammered it back in place and tack welded the joint. It sounds great and was only $70. Very fair and very efficient. The front desk person was amazing, helpful, and very friendly as well. All the people I dealt with were top notch. I was expecting the need to replace my exhaust system, but a quick fix and the truck sounds like new. read more

The person inside doesn't wear a mask. I could even pity him if it was hot inside. The building was air conditioned. I would even be Ok with not wearing it if there were no customers inside. Beware they are not an honest business. Took our car in for an oil change. The manager showed us what he said was my cabin filter. It was very dirty & even had a leaf stuck to it. Told us they could replace it for me, but I told them we would take care of it ourselves. My husband & I purchased a new one on the way home. When my husband went to replace the filter it was a different size & a lot cleaner than the one we were shown. The one we were shown was not from our car. Will not go back. read more

The men who helped me were nice, and they did exactly what was needed- an oil change and the standard inspection that comes with the package. However, I received a mock-up of what needed to be fixed on my car- to the tune of $800. After returning from my trip (and needing my car towed to a mechanic for completely unrelated problems than posted below), I consulted with him and he said that many of these "repairs" were not necessary (give for the tail light), and that they just wanted to get more money out of me. I am inclined to agree with him. If you really think your car needs these fixes, get a second opinion so you won't be deluded into thinking you NEED these. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MIDAS FACILITY. They are looking to scam people and not necessarily do a good job. Very careless and I wonder if they are doing service properly at all. Here's what happened. Back in 2003, I took my 99 Toyota for an oil change and they presented me with a service suggestions (strut replacement plus many other things) for a proposed $1500 work. I was shocked, but just did my oil change and came back, (Note : they did not fill any fluids NOR did they change the "maintenance due" sticker). Next service was done at the dealer - and they did a 72 point inspection and voila - everything including struts was great... My wife made the mistake of taking the car again to Midas for an oil change just this month... came back with a $2500 proposed services including struts (again LOL), tires and oil pan gasket for an oil leak. Yes, the oil was leaking - but their quoted price was close to $300 which included a $75 gasket (part cost) (WOW - must be some special one!) - I called the Toyota dealer in Folsom and Genuine toyota gasket was only $23. I noticed more careless issues - the sticker was not changed, fluids was not done and oh - main thing - my car has 70K miles on it - but according to their "service records - the sheet that give you" - it had 103,000 miles. There's a definite possibility of fraud happening here. I called the shop to confront why the $75 gasket - and they scrambled to give me a straight answer. The part which is $10 at a Kragen and about $23 at a dealer was quoted for 3 times the value.. HUGE RIP OFF. Anyway, No more to this MIDAS and I will always be wary of going to another MIDAS ever again. read more

DISHONEST!!! DECEPTIVE!!! UNETHICAL!!! Will never do business with Midas again. Permitted Midas to complete over $1200 of service on our Suburban which included a diagnostic test and an oil change. The following day my husband was stranded for almost 3 hours, miles away from home in the vehicle with smoke coming from the hood and the "low oil- stop engine immediately" alarm going off. When my husband checked the dipstick there was barely any oil in the truck. Joe and Jeff reluctantly agreed to cover the tow if they deemed the problem to be their fault. The morning after the tow, Joe calls my husband to tell him that there's enough oil in the truck and no alarms are going off. What a Christmas MIRACLE!!!! Santa and his elves put oil in the truck just before Joe and the other workers got to work. As a result of this TOP THE OIL OFF MIRACLE the "low oil- stop engine immediately alarm" is no longer going off. In a nutshell, if you desire to pay for auto service that is incomplete, incur additional towing expenses, miss hours of pay from work, miss your child's away game, be stranded on the side of the road in the dark, endure pain and suffering dealing with this group of "professional miracle workers", by all means chose your neighborhood Midas. For all others AVOID THE MIDAS TOUCH. You will not be living your life like it's golden. read more

Got my oil changed today and was so glad I chose to come here! The manager Jim was very helpful and straight forward. I have a new car and there is an oil leak- the staff left my car up on the lift and took the time to show me exactly where so I could see it. They wrote down exactly what to say to Honda when I go to get it fixed which was so nice because I don't know much about cars! Very friendly, low pressure business. And they gave me coupons! We brought my son's car in for an oil change, great price point which includes free tire rotation. Brought it home , and after my son left for work I noted oil stains on the driveway (his car has never leaked). I called the shop and was told I could bring it back in for evaluation. Since my son was at work this was impossible. The technician said he would then give me a kitty litter type product to help draw up the oil. I was not happy that this happened. On a brighter note, I called this morning and happened to get Tim on the phone who is an owner. At the time I had no idea actually. He said he would be out to our home in a few minutes and get things checked out and clean the stain. What a great business owner he is. He truly has concern for his customers and going above and beyond today. ( even crawled under the car to check things out) I highly recommend Tim and his Midas location in Folsom. I love this location! I've never had any issue with the mechanics and they seem to be very starlight forward and honest! I've brought all of my cars to them and they always fixed it properly!
