The older blind woman who takes the checks is incredibly rude. I had been in once before and they seemed nice, but when I walked in the last time I was ignored. I did not even sit down to eat or anything yet, but I walked up to the register area to ask a question and she basically accused me of trying to get free food. Haven't been here in a while and it is nothing like I remember. Use to enjoy the chicken fried steak but what I was served had no flavor and reminded me of a premade frozen patty. So rude. I went in here with my sister recently and upon walking in we were ignored for about 10 minutes. My sister went to the register to ask about a table and the blonde "lady" told her "if you want any food you have to order it, and pay for it." This time, we got chicken fried steak, double burger and french toast. The hot chocolate was the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and chocolate. Realllllly wanted to give this place a good review as I drive by daily and see the sign flashing specials among the intriguing rugged mining equipment . The husband and I decided to have lunch together and it was my turn to choose a new interesting place, we decided on the Miners. We ordered, the waitress was a little old school crass and cold but everyone has a bad day. Or maybe she doesn't like gay people? Our food came quick and it wasn't terrible. The Indian taco my other half ordered wasn't actually a Navajo Taco, I didn't find it too horrible but he was not impressed. I got the steak lunch special and all told it was not bad. As I finished my lunch I noticed two long black hairs that were hiding under my steak. To me that's just gross and I'm bald so clearly not mine lol We called our server over and she snatched the plate off the table and scolded the cooks. I noticed one of the cooks had long black hair that was not tucked into a hair net. My meal was comped and I think that's about as nice as the server was too us the whole time. I know this place has been in business for a few decades and I really find it hard to give a family joint such low ratings but I have been seriously disappointed in the old diners in Utah falling short of expectations. read more

As I've always said, I love breakfast, and this place delivers a great breakfast. My visit was with a large group for a business lunch. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They had a place for us set up and took very good care of us. I ordered the vegetarian omelet with a scone on the side. I soon learned that apparently most all the meals came with a scone on the side unless you ordered a sandwich. They have a great honey butter on the table that I quickly doused my scone in. The real draw for our group, however, was the prime rib lunch. Several ordered it and were not disappointed. The downside to the visit was the parking lot. This place gets so crowded, especially on a Friday at lunch, that you will be lucky to find a parking spot in the lot by the building much less anywhere close along the road. A compact car may have better luck than a pick up truck like I was driving. read more

Seriously the worst experience of takeout I've ever had. Whoever is working the phone needs to be fired! He never says d when it would be ready or gave me a total. He just put the phone down so i could hear the background noise. Nothing on my order was correct & only got half of my food. Didn't realize until i got home. Sure they said come back for the rest of your order but what do i do let my food get cold at home which was wrong that begin with this or drive all the way back there. I grew up eating here; I eat here about 4 times a month. Unfortunately my meal today was very sad. Chef Salad is what I ordered. The menu said lettuce, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, ham, turkey, Swiss and American cheese. What they brought was a plate of lettuce (very large pieces), 3 tomato slices (for a burger), no hard boiled egg, white and yellow American cheese( cut in large strips), a pickle for a sandwich, the turkey and ham were just deli meat cut in huge strips. I was going to let it go but when I talked to the server she just tried to make up excuses. When I paid and the cashier ask me to add a tip (for a Coke) I said no and she gave me an eye roll/smirk. Absolutely the worst service ever. We were seated, decided what we wanted, got our drinks then our food and never saw our waitress again. When she brought our food she said she would be back with my scone, never saw it. She walked around taking other orders, bringing their food and their scones, looked at us many times and nothing. She never came by to see if everything was okay, never brought anymore drinks (we had water). We got done eating and still never saw her. We finally got her attention and I told her I never got my scone so please put it in a box to go and her answer was "we're busy" REALLY??? Yes, you were busy, 3 waitresses working 7 tables, yup, you were soooo busy. I told her, "you are not busy." At that point she copped an attitude, we saw her go get the scone, box it up then help someone at the cash register. She then said something to the another waitress then brought our check, boxed scone and threw them on the table. When I went up to pay it was the waitress she had spoken to and she asked how everything was. I said I didn't get my scone and we could have done without the attitude. I live nearby and had been to Midvale Mining Cafe once before and was decently satisfied. It's greasy diner food and delivers on that promise. However, today's trip was awful. I ordered the "chili verdi" assuming it would actually be green like a traditional chile verde dish. Big. Mistake. What came out of the kitchen was a can of bright red tomato paste and processed cheddar slathered on top of nearly uncooked hash browns. It was barely palatable and nowhere near what was promised on the menu. I took two bites and bailed, ending my breakfast early. We also ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was way overcooked. When I brought it up to both my waitress and the host, they both gave a lame "sorry about that" and offered in no way to fix the situation. I told them both that the menu was misleading and they were indifferent. The host said "yeah, it's tomato based" as if that was readily apparent from the beginning. We won't be going back. I love this place. The shrimp were ok but not my favorite. I'll stick with something else next time. I love the macaroni salad with tiny shrimp that is served alongside the green salad. So Ive dropped $250 on Vegas in a Michelin star spot and I've had $1 tacos. I enjoy what I'm eating in the moment and take it at face value. Midvale Mining Cafe is a place you have to take at face value. They don't pretend to be anything other than a hole in the wall diner. They serve good ole griddle cooking that happens to be quite delightful to eat. You won't get fancy steaks here or high class sandwiches, instead you'll get a cheap piece of beef. But you know what...thats what they say it isn they don't it there and try to blow smoke up your rear and if you're going there to be served some 5 star fancy food or be catered to like you're spending $100 think again. Like I said, this place is good and fun to eat at becuase not only is it affordable and cheap, but because the operators know it's cheap and don't act like they're anything else. The worst part of it is they used have huge scones that were the best in town. The last time we were there I was looking forward to one of their scones.
