I just moved back into the neighborhood from NYC (nothing like moving during a pandemic!) so I've been poking around trying to figure out where my regular spots will be, which is not an easy feat when everything is closed. When I first saw the menu for Mifflin Tavern, I was SO excited! I've been popping through every weekend to get my cucumber coolers from Kelly (who has been so friendly and welcoming!) and this weekend I finally got to test out the kitchen and OH MY GOD! I don't think I'll be eating anywhere else anytime soon! It wasn't just the magic of getting to go out to eat for the first time after three long months (although that definitely WAS magical)... it was the FOOD! I went with my friend and we had the ahi tuna wrap (incredible), the korean broccoli (outstanding), and the buffalo cauliflower (ok, I didn't eat that because I'm hovering at about a spice level ZERO, but my friend loved it!). The menu is constantly changing and evolving with the changing of the seasons. Everything is fresh, and the attention to detail of complimenting flavors is unmatched. The staff is incredible. One of the owner, while hustling behind the bar, will give you an explanation of each thing on the menu, while providing her own personal suggestions. So My Husband and I went to the Mifflin Tavern for dinner and a few drinks. The Atmosphere was absolutely phenomenal there was live music playing people were happy inviting all the employees were very attentive to everyone's needs. The food was outrageous certainly not your typical Corner bar food. And absolute cut above the rest and the prices were super affordable. The Korean Broccoli as an appetizer is an absolute must have beyond delicious!!! We also had brisket grilled cheese was to die for and buffalo mac&cheese egg rolls YUM! This is an amazing restaurant and bar that offers great food and specialty drinks as well as a wide variety of tasty seasonal brews on tap at a price that is extremely reasonable. Their entertainment schedule includes game nights, DJ's, acoustic singers and even full bands. They've gone the extra mile by installing a sound system that can be clearly heard from any seat inside and outside and they even stream all their entertainers on their strategically placed tv's so everyone can enjoy the show. Service is A+, and during these trying times they've taken every precaution to ensure the safety of their customers, staff and surrounding community. As a result of the recent concerns for social distancing and the multitude of restrictions placed on the food service industry they've gone the extra mile by creating an outdoor dining area that ensures a safe dining experience; which includes outdoor tents and propane heaters. When indoor dining was permitted they even had plexi-glass partitions separating the tables in effort to comply with social distancing standards. I'd give them 10 stars if allowed! AMAZING food from an amazing family owned business that makes you feel like you're one of their own! This is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. It's the perfect atmosphere to catch up with a friend or even just to grab a hot meal to go on the way home. The owner will always make sure it's the best quality and makes a point of preparing so that the food never sits. And the drink menu is incredible! They keep things current and every drink is as good as the next one, even the ones with a lot of ingredients! Anyone looking for quality food, drinks and service in a great atmosphere (notably safe with the current covid standards, making you even more comfortable) should stop by or even pick up to go. This is our "go-to" spot. Between the great service, live entertainment, the seasonal menus, specialty cocktails and great beer selection it's definitely a place to check out. Some of my favorites are: The Brisket Cheesesteak- You can tell they don't skimp on quality ingredients (including the bread- anyone from Philly knows the bread makes the sandwich). Great flavor profile. Filet Sandwich- This is my regular order when it's on the menu. A filet that is SO tender you can bite into it without pulling out the entire steak. Combine that with the sautéed onions and horseradish sauce, its INCREDIBLE. Mifflin Mix- It's the perfect sized salad that's always fresh and flavorful. As far as entertainment: Before COVID there was something going on almost every night. Tuesday was Quizzo, Wednesday was Drag Queen Bingo, Thursday was Name that Tune and the weekend has a great rotation of live music and DJs. The live music ranges from solo acoustic acts to your favorite beach party bands. The DJs they have are personable and know how keep the crowd on the dance floor. During COVID, they still are doing a great job with the entertainment. I especially appreciate this considering live music has been a rarity during the pandemic. They have set up additional TVs so they can live stream the entertainment, sporting events AND maintain a safe social distance. One nice thing that came out of COVID restrictions is the outdoor dining. They took a South Philly street and managed to turn it into a nice place to eat and grab drinks. They have tents to keep you warm and dry, outdoor TVs, heaters and decorations that make it really nice. As far as the staff, between the owners and employees you won't meet a crew that cares more about customer satisfaction. They take the time to get to know their customers and make it like visiting family and close friends every time you visit. They care about the food and drinks they serve. Mifflin Tavern is definitely part of the South Philly community and supports their customers and community. Even during the pandemic when restaurants are suffering, they went out of their way to help feed the frontline workers. Great neighborhood bar! A bit more upscale than most of the other places in Pennsport, which is a nice change of pace. Great beer selection and decent food/beer deals during the week. Food quality is also pretty solid despite the use of fried wonton noodles as a garnish on most of the appetizers. Wish the pierogies were actually filled with cheesesteak or buffalo chicken, which is what I was expecting, and not just topped with it. read more

Came in for a drink after work and my lush of a roommate was ripping shots and ordering doubles the whole night while I sipped slowly on a Guinness for 2 hours. Staff is very rude honestly need to work on customer service and making rules up as they go, there was 10 of us 3 had there own drink in hand from down the street but we heard the food was good and seen the menu had some interesting drinks so we decided to go sit outside by the fire and order some food and drinks at 9pm on a Saturday the heavy set bouncer looking man decided to tell us because we had 3 people with drinks in hard he was closing the section and we couldn't sit to order because 3 people had drinks (which again we were willing to throw away because we wanted to try what they had on menu and order food) very rude lied about closing up out side at 9 pm on a Saturday. Let me just say I wanted to try the Irish potato drink but ended up going to for Pete's sake and had the Irish potato there which I can say was absolutely amazing since we weren't turned away and spend our money and treated decent. read more

I've been here 2x so far. I rolled in there on a Saturday night after drinking all day in CC. I had cheese steak pierogies, on a recommendation from the doorman, and a burger the first time. I was expecting cheese steak stuffed pierogies, but it was pierogies covered in meat and cheese instead. Either way it was great. Burger was great too. Next time I went there for a couple drinks to watch the Sixers on a Friday night. The crowd is definitely different from the Doc's Union crowd. A little older and quieter now. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for something nicer than the dives that line 2nd St. There is also a bar on the deck upstairs but I didn't go up, not sure if it was open. read more
