The food is literally always consistently good here. It's nothing like your traditional taco shop, but it's definitely a couple big steps up from a Taco Bell or Del Taco. The burritos they have here are huge! I always get a chicken burrito and my BF always gets the carne asada "garbage" (loaded) burrito with no sour cream. Sometimes when we're feeling crazy we get the chicken nachos to share. We always order to go, and I LOVE how they serve the sour cream and guacamole on the side for to go orders of the nachos. It makes it so the chips don't get all mushy. I always really liked this place, however it was only just a four star joint for me. That was before I came in here on Friday, 2/1 at about 5pm and was assisted by a very sweet and professional young lady! I don't remember her name, but she was so professional, nice, and make me feel very comfortable in the establishment. She is a great representation of the brand. When I flagged down the manager and told him about how great she is and how they should value her as an employee, I could see on his face that he really didn't care what I was saying. SO, here I am yelping about this experience about how great this girl was. Shes probably a teenager or in her very early twenties. She is (or looks) Caucasian and has freckles. If I let my man write this review he'd say this place was GREAT but then he has very little real understanding of what great tastes like...so no review ideas from him. Miguel's Jr. is simply fast, chain Mexican food. The menu is simple and about $1 over-priced on each item. Taquitos - 3 frozen rolled tacos with more of a guacamole sauce then actual guacamole. Good but not worth the cost. Rice & Beans & Salsa - The rice is pretty standard but their beans were actually pretty dang good. We ate here twice and I made sure we got extra beans on round two. They have red (hot) and a green (mild) salsa that are both pretty good. I tend to turn my food into salsa soup if the salsa catches my fancy and there was a salsa pond in my rice and beans mound so I'm going to say YAY to the red salsa. Tacos - We ordered a 2 carne asada taco place which is pretty standard and again sadly $1 plus overpriced. It comes with rice and beans which I give a high 5 to and a drink. Burritos - I listened to other yelpers and ordered the shredded beef burrito for both my man and myself. I loved it. It comes with rice, beans and cheese. I added sour cream. It's a large enough hand full that I didn't feel too cheated by the cost and the shredded beef is really very good. My man thought it was "good" but he made love to his carne asada burrito saying to was "GREAT" and having me run back and get him a 2nd one (don't judge his love of food quantity). I do have issue with the fact that they only cook their carne asada to a medium rare as this isn't a high quality product place and medium rate leaves way too much room for something to go meat wrong. Somehow, you just end up here because it's convenient. Nothing amazing really, just good food. The shredded beef taco is tops. I wish they'd use romaine lettuce in their salad though, otherwise it really has no nutritional value. The guacamole could be better, too. Their expansion throughout OC and the IE has led to ridiculous cuts in service, quality, and quantity of food. First, they started limiting your salsa, then the burritos got smaller, then more expensive. More recently, they moved the horchata behind the counter and increased the price for this "rice water" because, in their words, it is a "premium" beverage. Rice water. Hmmm. We have been going to Miguels Jr since it opened. We use to get a BIG burrito, but the burritos have shrunk and the price went up!! I use to get the taco salad a lot. So disappointed since they changed it. No longer do you get chips on the bottom. You get little strips sprinkled on top, and I mean little, just so it looks pretty. Also their sauce has gotten really runny, trying to save cost and the avocado sauce is runnier. I liked it when they served the chopped sauce, more like pico de gallo than the runny stuff they call sauce now. If I had only one wish for a food joint out here in Orange County it would be Miguels. My dad used to take us here among other places all throughout the late 70's and all of the 80's. I have been coming back ever since and if you come here you'll understand why. Order the Beef Colorado burrito and you'll keep coming back for more. Their shredded beef tacos are deep fried to perfection and oh so yummy. Be careful though, eating their tacos can get seriously outta hand! My brother and I once finished off 20 tacos in less time it would take to prepare them. Almost everything on their menu is so fresh tasting and served hot with a smile. The reason I give this place 5 stars is because for the price, it definitely is as good as it gets. I got the Chile Relleno combination plate which came with rice, beans, 3 corn tortillas, and a 20 oz soda for about $5. There is no way you can beat that price. The food was also good. The relleno was fresh and the cheese was good. The rice was cooked well and the beans were good too. The tortillas were served hot and it really complimented the dish better than the usual salty tortilla chips. This is a good place to stop for people from Orange County who are going out to Vegas, Big Bear, or Palm Springs. It's right off the 91 and they even have a drive-thru. Even after moving to Yorba Linda I still stop in and grab a burrito to go and one for lunch the next day whenever possible. Love the shredded beef crunchy tacos and garbage burrito. Usually i get the chicken taquitos because the guacamole is included, and a side of guac is ridiculously over priced. The prices here are a little high I think (think $8-10 fat food not $4-7 fast food). It's nice that they have the special Mexican drinks (orange bang, horchata) but a bummer that it's not refillable fountain (unlike mi tortilla which also has pina). The salsa is more like hot sauce. I've been here twice and I think the food is really good. The spinach enchiladas are my favorite. They're healthy, not greasy at all, and they're delicious. I like that his restaurant offers high quality Mexican food. This is something very rare in socal. My mom is the best cook when it comes to Mexican food so I can be pretty picky when it comes to eating Mexican fast food but Miguel's offers authentic Mexican food. Hands down... The WORST mexican food I have ever had, and that includes Taco Bell and some Montezuma's Revenge taco's in Tiajuana. It was a soggy pitiful little burrito , all beans and sour cream. It came wrapped in paper like a McDonald's hamburger, so one bite and it exploded its gooeyness all over the plastic tray. My coworkers all seem to love it, but I can't see why.
