After living in the South for a few years it's been a struggle to find great ribs here in Fresno. I pass by Mike's all the time but honestly never even noticed it. But after searching yelp I decided to give it a try. Wow! These ribs are amazing! Not 9nly do they have very reasonable prices, but they are quick and friendly as well. The smoker in the parking lot is proof they slow smoke the meat and it is so obvious in the flavor! Tender, juicy ribs that fall off the bone! Amazing! We went to Mike's because of the many positive reviews. I agree that the tri tip is incredible...probably the best I've ever had, so tender and juicy. But, I won't repeat what everyone else has said except to add a little more of the detail I wish I had had. Be aware that this kiosk is in a shopping parking lot...metal tables and chairs. So, don't come here if you're looking for ambience or a relaxing dining experience. It is perfectly fine for lunch or, do what we did, take your food somewhere else. The food is a little bit above average. What is the worst though is the customer service this place offers. I always call my order in to skip the wait, and when I do so multiple times I've payed at the front and they still make me wait 20 minutes. Obviously not preparing any of my order prior. Another thing is every time I call this place to place a order they have me on hold for over 20 minutes, while I hear the lady that works there serve over 13 customers back to back became she wasn't bright enough to put the phone on hold. This is a small place. We had the tri-tip and pulled porked sandwich. It was sooooo good. 7.50 for the pulled pork 7.75 for the tri-tip. We got 2 drinks with that came out to be around $22. It was so good. Plenty of sandwich. It was cut down the middle so me and my friend traded half's so we got to experience both. Both were great . They didn't give us napkins or had them out. They will give you napkins if you ask. I thought about giving this place 1 less star because it's not a place you can go into and sit down. If you drive by the strip mall you might miss this small shack on the side. I went with the Tritip sandwich and it was very good. The smokiness was there and cooked perfectly. They certainly do this well. Only complaint is if you eat it there underneath the makeshift seating area is prepare to battle the flies. If they could minimize this would be great. Got my sandwich and was very pleased they put the sauce on the side so you can taste the meat and decide how much sauce you want. The tri tip is cooked to perfection and served on garlic bread. Added bbq sauce that tasted lovely. Potato salad was tasty included olives which I don't care for but can be picked out. And even my lemonade was right. Perfectly cooked (although my contrarian mother-in-law proclaimed it "over baked"). I didn't even notice they didn't have fries - but my kids probably did... My brother was raving about this place so long we had to stop for lunch. It's a small stand. You order, pick up your food and can either take it to go or eat it on the tables setup outside under the tent. The tri-tip was moist and not seasoned. And the bread was soft and a bit toasted. Yummy! My favorite thing was the BBQ sauce they gave us on the side ! For sure the best tri-tip sandwich I have ever had. And my choice of protein is chicken, but I would make the drive out there on a hot summer day for this as a lunch option. Been going here since it opened , but stopped going as often when the prices went up. Went in tonight and was sorely disappointed. The quality of the food and service has dropped off completely. Not sure if it's new owners or just new staff. The chili was watered down, the bun was burnt and the meat wasn't as flavorful or plentiful as it was last time I went. First time stopping at Mike's. It was sooooo yummy! I'm from Santa Maria so I know my tri-tip and Mike's does it justice. They serve their tri-tip sandwiches on garlic sub-bread and toast it. My husband had the rice pilaf as a side and I had the chili beans, they were very good as well. Service was really good too. They young man their was very courteous and served us very quick. I'm giving Mike's a 4 star, mainly for the cost. Off of a recommendation I went over there for dinner last night and got the tri tip sandwich. I don't eat much and I finished it, so I do wish it had a bit more meat. Another reviewer commented on the amount of seasoning. I found that it had a tid bit more salt that I could do without but it wasn't overwhelming. In fact, I went back there today for the same sandwich and didn't have any over-seasoned issue. It really is pretty darn good. I'm not a huge fan of sesame seed buns but theirs goes very well with the sandwich. The tri tip tastes great, the bread taste great and I will definitely be going back for the tri tip and to try the pulled pork and hot link. 1 star off for the price and it could use a touch more meat. I really wanted to try some sides but it was just even more $, so. If I had one recommendation to the cooks I'd recommend that they shred their pulled pork just a bit more. Be prepared that when you call your order in and you're still going to wait for it with no apologies. I called my order in at 11:35 am and was told it would be ready in ten minutes. I waited in line in the Fresno heat to pay for it and barely got my order at 11:54 am. The cashier could be a little more friendly as well because Fresno/Clovis has a lot of choices on where to eat. I wish I could say it wasn't worth it but it barely was. There isn't a lot of tri tip in the sandwich which was fine with me because the fantastic, toasted bread gets me every time. Wow! The bread, the thinly sliced tri-tip.... even on a hot day at 99 degrees, this was this one of the best sandwich's I've had in a LONG time! I will definitely be a regular there! Update: 2nd visit A little disappointed. Was driving by and decided to stop, mainly for pilaf. Ordered, paid, waited approximately 10-15 min. Someone else who had ordered awhile after me was also sitting and waiting. The guy comes out with both our orders except informed us that they didn't have rice pilaf. He asked if I wanted another side. I said no. I didn't want to wait another few minutes for another side or to get a refund on the side I already paid for (my choice). Not sure why it took 10-15 minutes and another person behind me to order and pay for pilaf before they realized they had none. I think with regards to customer service, I would have been more impressed if they would have just included a double order of the other side I ordered that they did have (mac salad), or just included a side of something else (like beans) with the order. I would have been even more impressed if there was a substituted side already in the bag in place of the pilaf with a complimentary garlic bread or something given that I had already paid and waited 10+ min before you realized you were unable to produce 1/3 of the order I paid for. Granted the food is still good, so maybe customer service is an afterthought, and I'll definitely still be back again, though it was a little alarming that the other person who also didn't receive their pilaf commented, "this happens every time I come here it seems." read more

It comes with 2 containers of perfectly flavored BBQ sauce,sweet and tangy with no fake smoke flavored added as the tri tip has real smoke flavor you don't want to cover up! Mike's grill ends up being the Alternative to Dog House's Tri-Tip Sandwich. Although they are both Tri-tip Sandwiches they do not have the same flavours. Mike's tri-Tip will give you the diversity you are looking for. The Tri-tip is moist and their bread is smeared with a blend of rich fats, garlic and herbs. Their menu is simple and done well. Their bbq beans aren't my cup of tea for beans but I definitely appreciate the seasonings they go for. They also offer Pilaf that has a mellow profile of herbs and and adds a nice touch to your choice of meats. Mikes grill also has House bbq and its delicious. Its tangy and sweet.
